You can get them on the trading post.

You can retrieve them by salvaging with the most expensive item but you lose the gear. You can try with cheaper salvaging items but you run the risk of not getting it back. You get salvaging items from vendors.

just to add to this, it should be the Black Lion’s salvage kit that gives 100% recovery on Upgrade components on armour or weapons.

and at the same time, if you have the stats and skin that you like on your gear, but want to change the rune, you can just “Overwrite” it with your desired rune.

again, of course, you lose the rprevious rune.

i would say depends on the rest of your stats right now and what you’re planning to achieve. hmm in general, you want a strong balance between crit hit chance and crit damage. if you’ve no crit chance, crit dmg rarely procs. if you’ve no crit dmg, your crit chance isn’t getting the most out of it. though, i don’t number test and haven’t really seen a guide out there…

but if early on, i’d focus on precision over crit damage.

ahh, good point on those who brought up the Slayer Achievements. Those would be the categories or the various “Types” of enemies that we can encounter in-game at this point in time. so you can always refer to that list as a general breakdown of what counts as a different t ype of enemy as we leave trails and trails of dead bodies behind out pathsD

if my memory serves me correctly, i wanted to craft the hammer for myself, and the dagger for my wife. i got the two recipes. and then got myself some lodestones and then the Shaman’s Etched weapons. the Dagger was of Rage. the hammer was, like yours, of Accuracy. i’m pretty sure you need the _ of Rage because i could craft the corrupted shard, but not the corrupted sledgehammer (or whatever the name was). i got the accuracy one off the TP cause it was cheaper lol. i had a feeling it had to be of Rage but i wanted to test anyways.

before you go ahead and get that though, perhaps wait for a few more who can help confirm.

@myng – kill count for sure. and i believe shooting rabbits, raccoons, etc also add to variety. i used to think it just added 1/15, i name them of the “critters” variety. however, now, trying to get the indiscriminate slayer title, i pretty much hit everything i see O___o i swear, i’m not a heartless Norn! and i get the kill variety a lot faster. will field-test this and confirm again.

i run with a few more “regular” guildies / plauers for dungeons. i’ll admit, i’m “farming” a few dungeons right now for tokens. though, there are more than a handful i have not completed yet! that being said, when we do sometimes pick up some PUGs, if it’s their first time, we’ll always encourage them to watch the cut scenes, we’ll sort of take our time (so i guess it’s not the MOST efficient farming) but we all still have fun. and we will give tips sometimes, mainly on how to survive but we don’t lay things out word for word always and in the end, people are happy with the runs usually : ))

hey Slive : )) you’re right about it taking 525k karma for a legendary. but that’s just one component. on average, it takes about 1,000,000+ karma for a completed legendary! haha so it is a grind.

like Eslafiel mentioned, i think cultural weapons are a good investment if you don’t plan to save it up. and the best thing is, unlike cultural armour, any race can use any given race’s cultural weapons.

apart from the temple karma, there are also other karma vendors that sell “skin unique” armours. the “dark” armour set comes to mind.

hey bipolarzombie! i second what Glictch mentioned. feel free to join our Guild as well! (i’m on two different guilds and represent one or the other, depending on what’s going on, who’s on and what not – i get on at weird hours apparently lol). and if you feel it’s getting a bit lonely in your Guild, you can represent the other anytime when you see more people are on! to note: at the time being, it is more cross-server so it’s hard to actually play together, but at least having peopel to talk to makes a big difference : )))

i usually always run with my wife, and some other guildies but there are times when i run solo as well. and more often than not, i’ll run into other lone soldiers doing their hero thing, and after an event, or after we notice we’re chasing the same things for a while be it nodes, vistas, etc, i’ll just chat up a storm lol. some times, i think i scare them off and they somehow are able to put on 100% swiftness and they’re gone before the Shatterer falls. but in more cases than not, i’ve made acquiantances this way, and i’ll say friends even. albeit online in a game. : )) i add them to my friends list, which is ever growing. so i add nicknames to them so i know who’s who. : )))

for example, there’s someone, i try to run certain dungeons with. there’s another who i just met on map chat and never met in person (in-game) and we’re both after collecting all dyes, so whenever we have dupes, i sent them their way and vice versa. simple stuff like that.

hopefully you’re able to rekindle the passion for this game! as it sounds like you had it at one point, and that you do in fact enjoy playing the game. : )))

can’t stress enough, like Glitch said, take the first step! like in my silly e.g. above, most you’ll lose is a little pride perhaps, lol, as they run off ignoring you :ppp

hey jrat – there’s no specific type. as long as you kill 15 (for the full tier) different types of enemies, you’ll get the daily achievement for that category.

and nottsgman, i haven’t ever really field-tested this, but killing rabbits and other little helpless animals actually help! (sadly though cause they’re so innocent… lol. : ((( ). also to note though, if for example you see “Corruped ____”, even if they have different names, and look different, they’re all categorized as risen. and only counts as just 1.

same for say for e.g. Veteran Jungle Wurm, vs Wurm Hatchling – i think they just count as one category. you can easily do this in the starting areas as running along any given path will usually net you different types of enemies. as each “area” is usually a home to different mobs. you can even attack “friendly” enemies (yellow) and then they turn red. when you kill them, they count towards this achievement as well. don’t forget to jump in the water to sabotage underwater wildlife too!

and just to note – the other dailies are relatively self explanatory as well. i don’t have the exact category names but more or less:

• Kill 60 enemies – all the white animals that die in one hit should count towards tis as well. you’ll usually get this during normal gameplay
• iirc, harvest/mine 20 times – note each time you harvest on average, will yield you 3 ores, logs, etc (with the exception of food, which is only 1), and so you only need to find 6+ nodes.
• complete 5 events total – if you find a nice event chain, remember where it is and you can easily get this done as well

once you get the full tier for all 4 categories, you’ll get the daily achievement. rewards include a small amount of coin, 1 mystic coin, some nice XP and 1 karma jug. am i missing anything? hope this helps!

even more notes on the rewards:

• mystic coins can be used towards crafting various items including legendaries and named exotic weapons using the mystic forge and what not.
• jugs of karma, if you plan to save up a lot, can be used with and are affected by karma boosters, guild banners as well as guild influence. i’m currently saving up a bunch of jugs and hopefully using them in one go to maximise : ))

i just ran a PUG last night, and i either keep getting lucky, or the players in general are pretty good. but yes, it was rather quiet most of the time. mainly me talking to myself, haha and i get the occasionaly “lol” here or there.

and now that you mention it, i have followed Alpaca Owl (nightshift, since i’m in the same timezone) and also Mara over the weekends! i vouch for them myself, again, i’m not a vet in WvW but the time si have ran with them, they knew what they were doing and got stuff done.

can i ask you to elaborate what you mean by being useful to your guild in PvE? do you mean doing farm runs, dungeons, or …

i remember when i first hit 80, i was like made it! now what as well. of course, i knew i was going to keep playing, as do you – so the main question is, what do we want to do and how? leveling up, i started learning and figuring out how i wanted to play. if you want, you can go to the Heart of the Mists and try out different weps, stats and traits/skills/builds. find something you like, set a reasonable goal for yourself. for me, after realizing i play what i like to believe to be a support/DPS build. perhaps not as specialized and won’t do as much raw dmg as others, but still definitely a formidable force. i picked out the stats i thought would be support and augment this playstyle of mine and then my first goal it was to get a set of rare armour first with the stats that i wanted. then exotic weapon sets for the weapons i use the most – hammer, GS, scepter and staff. then greenwork jewelry —> then to exotic jewelry. and havne’t go tmy jewelry all sorted yet but i plan to go for an exotic armour set. Point to note – at this stage and looking back,, like Guanglai pointed out, i woulda went for exotic weapons first as they make the most noticeable difference. and then you sort your jewelry and than armour. i’m kinda building all at the same time now and it worked(s) for me.

i’ve also built a rare MF set along the way too for farming in general. whereas my general set i use in dungeons.

and even now, i try to keep swithcing my weapons sets around, try different utilities and switch up my traits every so often. finding what works best in each situation.

if you’re curious, there are many great builds out there that people are sharing. i personally run something similar to the AH + Hammer build that’s stickied. and still am consatntly evolving and trying new things as well. and just FYI, i run with full knight’s gear. though now working on a more focused on DPS set. for weapons, i like running berserkers for hammer and GS, and then knight’s for my offhands, and healing on my staff.

no matter what i’m doing, i have at least two sets of full armour one me (equipped and in Inv). i envision to have at least 3 full sets. and i carry all weapons with me wheever i go. just so you can switch on the fly and be prepared for all occasions. i might also be working on maybe even multiple sets of the same weapon. but this is just me. : ))

• i second third 15 in radiance 5 in virtues as well, just because it adds more utility to the guardian’s virtures (f1 – f3). probs 5 in virtures first, then the rest in 15 for starters. then you can start to invest in…

• like Ynna said, points into valor or honor help her be more “survivable”. check the traits to see which may suit her play style more

• as for weapons, i really enjoyed sword / focus or torch in the beginning. hammer is REALLY fun and gives good damage, while also giving yourself protection (end of autoattack chain, #1 skill chain). at the same time, requires a LITTLE bit of mobility to use well and some feel it to be quite slow. so the Greatsword could be a good alternative! the staff is also good for traveling (swiftness), as well as healing. if you/she feels she needs even more survivability, mace and shield or mace and focus is very defensive.

• if you decide to go down the honor trait line, you can spec for symbols to be pretty powerful – larger symbols, lasting longer symbols, symbols that heal.. and GS#4, end of hammer chain #1, mace #2 and staff #3 all give drop symbols to name a few – which buff and if traited for healing, can add more survivability as well

• i personally am really Shout heavy – hold the line, retreat and save yourselves are my staples. stand your ground can be good against CC when you reach the higher levels.

the Guardian is definitely capable of doing all those things. : )) i am not the most skilled player so i still get kited if there are more than 1 or 2 players at times in WvW :/// but i’m slowly practicing more and more.

you can check out the Altruistic Healing + Hammer sticky thread for a good idea of a build that is capable of doing what you mentioned. at the same time, there are many other viable builds that can achieve this as well. i’ll let you have some fun with the traits and skills : ))

just some tips on gear – for a starters lvl 80, you can aim for a full knight’s gear. full knight’s jewelry, mixed with some valkyrie or berserker’s if you will. can opt for a PowVitTough chest and pants for the extra buffer. superior rune of the soldier full set. and have different sets of weapons as well. you’ll be pretty suvivable, lot of dmg mitigation (study the traits and skills, lot of fun stuff) and still dish out high, sustained dmg over time.

if i understand correctly, the tunnel is just the connecting point between the two “Camp” events. so in between the two WP’s sandwiching Penitent Path. so you essentially just go SEE from where the Plinx chain ends.

you’ll know if there’s an event there if the WP is contested. i havnen’t worked out the most efficient farming method / path yet. but say at the end of plinx, when the champ spawns, you can get enough hits in. and then if you notice there are crossed swords on those two WP’s you can run down and get those events too. of course, making sure your the peopel you’re leaving will be able to handle the champ. but then, most times, there are more than enough on the plinx chain.

@Bri – you can always get the AC armour and then tramsutate stats on to them. LOL though that turns out to be really pricey gear. essentially two exotics for one. but to be honest, lol, i’m doing that with some of my armour. when i have time later, i’ll take a look at some of the female med armour for ya and try to put something together, then i’ll text in the mists. lol. i love mix and matching gear!

just for me, do go check out the SE heavy ArmourD lol though some people swear by this set. haha

@Lexy and everyone – had a quickittentle chat yesterday and brought up a really good point!! i assume most of us have different crafts at different levels and if you don’t plan to make go certain crafts, make we can do trades? it’s just another way to help one another out, offer advice, and or just have fun making trades. you can check to see what crafts each person is at and what level on the Guild panel i believe in game. although id o have 3 400 crafts on one toon, lol, oops. armour, weapon and jewel. so if anyone ever needs anything, send me the mats and i can help! i’ll most likely give you a HUGE discount as well. props to Lexy for this idea!! ; ))))

@Glitch and Nottsgman and everyone – yaaar, excited for lost shores! would love to see some new armour too. so far for the Ascended gear it seems it’s only rings (or jewelry?) and the back piece. bbut eventually there’s be full set of ascended gear. and yea, nice that the area, jp’s, dungeons and all will be permanent.

and yea, if the events are anything liek the cut scene for Halloween. i think i will be okay if i miss them. LOL. but for the one-time event chain, would love to be able to take part in that. as long as i can wake up and it doesn’t last mor than 3, 4 hours.

as both above have mentioned, if you’re looking for loot, the tunnels / camps are a lot better. that being said, i have gotten loot as well for the Plinx chain. in particular.. the.. third event? gives the most loot.

again, make sure you’re tagging enough for loot to actually drop. then a gain, i assume you’re running the exact routes and playing at the same time as you friend?

as of.. 6 – 7 hours ago-ish, it was open on Sanctum of Rall. i didn’t participate this round, but the WP was uncontested and people were annoucning it in /m. someone from my party in CS popped over as well.

hey, what server / timezone are you? i need a couple more runs of SE. namely doing path 3 for now though. i’m from HK though, and its a 16 hr difference from current PST. i’m usually on anywhere between 9pm – midnight+ my time (i.e. 5am – 8am+ PST). would love to group if our timing works out.

one of the best ways is to find a guild that is heavy doing dungeon runs. or even a guild that has a solid base of members that like doing dungeon runs.

you can always do this by asking around. and or, if you’ve run with a good group, sparks fly, you can add ‘em as friends and ask them as well. that being said, problem still stands – it’s hard to get groups to start with!

this is really simple, but maybe over looked. and at least for me, it makes sense and seems to work.. and you can test with yourself as well. okay, so you’re in LA. you were just doing whatever, what have you. then in /m you see someone go, “LFG _ dungeon _ path”. meh, someone’s looking for a group and you don’t feel much. then 5 mins later, someone else goes, “_ dungeon LF1M”. even if it’s remotely a dungeon you’d be interested in doing, you’re going to have second thoughts. “should i respond??” you might ask yourself. well, at least more so compared to when some random just went LFG.

last night, i saw someone who was LFG SE path 1 or 3. i whispered them and said hey i was just gonna LFG. let’s party and get 3 more? we decided to do path 3 as well. then i went LF3M SE Path 3. got a whisper. LF2M. got a whisper. and then LF1M. got the final whisper and a group formed in less than 10 mins. this wasn’t during primetime either, but i just feel it’s helpful if someone takes the initiative.

bottom line – not everyone looking for a group will bother posting. or someone who may not have thought of doing a dungeon, but not opposed to it, may not pass up the chance if they see a group, even if just 2 or 3 people are formed. with 2 – 3 spots filled. you’ll have a higher chance of finding people. and people will be mor einclinced to join as well.

hopefully this helps. try this out, be the first to initiate and see how things go? most times i’ve wanted to do a dungeon, or started PUGs this is how i did it. it was just one lone person, i join up with them and then they flock to us, so to speak.. ;DD

that being said, i haven’t done most story modes (only CM and AC) so anyone on here missing stories happen to see this, feel free to add me in-game and whisper me! : ))

when i went to powel level through Jewelcrafting, i got to 400 pretty fast and actually saved some materials (was using a guide, which was written without the use of a booster involved). your crit chance is raised to gain more Crafting XP as i understand it, and have nothing to do with your character’s actualy levels.

i’m going for the 1x recipe as well. just makes more.. sens ein my head as the 10x seems to provide too much volatility. sure, i don’t have the math to support it, but this is how i’m going to approach it.

i’m going to try to save up more than what people have recommended (give myself a good… maybe 10% buffer?) and then attempt them all in one go. hopefully after that many tries, the odds do even out and i’ll have all my clovers in one sitting.

hmm base don my understanding, are you only using your thumb, pinky and maybe fourth finger for the movement keys, leaving index and middle for your skills? which i assume are up top, etc…

interesting and pretty ballsy. haha would take forever for me to get used to as well. but as long as it works for you! my pinky is weak as ish as well lol :ppp

not sure how thw status work exactly on the servers. i have read that if you try on non-peak hours, there’s still a chance your friend can make it in. hope this works!

if not, a kind and noble soul to help you. prtty crazy though, for someone to move servers. perhaps you’ll find one who just happened to be leaving.. if not, make sure you send ’em a good tip or thank you! : ))

i used to run with multiple sets, but now in Orr, i’ve become so lazy (and less cost effective) to the point where i just run with Ori mining tools. and this happend to be just last night as well, i got ruined ore chunks for the one Ori node i happen to come across (wasn’t chasing down nodes).

at that point, i wasn’t being attacked either. i clearly remember this as I didn’t do any mining at that point since I did my daily and didn’t see other stuff i needed. end of day, clearing my inv and i found 3 ruined chunks, and no ori. haha i guess i shoulda checked while mining…

and yes, i’ve tested mining while under attack and most cases there’s a chance you’ll get ruined goods. not guaranteed but higher chances.

SoR here as well. from my limited experience in WvW, i want to say that our server is quite active in WvW and there are a very dedicated group that put a lot of effort into it. i am sure more people can contribute in this area. another thing you COULD do to get a better feel and see if SoR is the right server for you, check out the WvW threads. there’s usually one for each week of our match-ups and am sure you can pick up some tidbits of info there. i don’t have enough experience running with any given Commanders out there to offer good insight, but I will say, i’ve followed a couple very good ones and were great at mobilizing people and putting our resources to good use.

In terms of PUGs, i’ve now found a guild / friends that I can regularly group with but we’re not a giant guild so often times we’ll pick up a few randoms. The first few times I’ve done dungeons were via PUGs as well so far, no complaints. both times i’ve let people know that i was new and people were willing to be patient when needed and led well. i was lucky enough to run some efficient dungeons and meet new people to play with.

and in regards to grouping up, i don’t feel it’s too bad either. people will call out in LA or near the dungeon entrance, but i feel on SoR, it’s mainly in LA. not hard to get in touch with people and most of the time, i’ve seen groups fill up at a decent pace.

lastly, you mentioned you are on in the mornings usually. can i assume you’re on either PST, EST or somewhere in between? i’m from Hong Kong so I’m on usually my night = your morning. and i play at all weird hours and have seen a decent population at most times. and if that’s the case, if you do decide to come over, would love to group and do dungeons with you as well.

the events in Cursed Shore are, more or less, always running. as per last night in map chat, one kind soul was informing peeps, “Plinx is up!” returned with a friendly reply “When is Plinx not up? ; ))”. that being said, sometimes you do have to wait around. and just ask in map or pay attention to chat. but if it’s actually bugged, hope they fix it soon!

sometimes it’s hard to “tag” mobs too as too often mobs, save vets and champs, literally show up and disappear, and all you’re left with are "Misses’ : ))

but yes, frostgorge sound i LOVE absolutely gorgeous place. and events may not be as “farmable” as in CS, but still fun and a good break from all that craziness.

keep this coming folk! i am extremely green in terms of gw lore. slowly broadening my horizons. this is awesome.

this just makes me all the more excited for the coming battles and expansions.

A – also good question. based on my undersatnding, it might be what was applied first? for example, if you had burning, blindness, immobilize on you, it’d remove burning first.

from the numbers i’ve seen various users presented on the interwebz, it seems that +Healing doesn’t scale entirely well with most of our heals, except for selfless daring (heal at end of dodge roll). at the same time, some people have sworn that +healing gear makes a difference but probably with a diminishing returns after you reach a certain point. i personally would rather invest in more toughness and vitality gear, in respective order.

i personally run a 0/5/30/30/5 build. many run 0/0/30/30/10 for the extra boon duration as well. but if you like using the blinds, stick with it. all very viable variations of the AH build ; )))

OP said he kept testing for combos though? and he tested it for 20 mins. pretty crazy if it was real.

i think the Order of Whispers hood is pretty darn great. got it for my low level alt and plan to transmutate.

though i feel the Crucible of Eternity helm might look better depending on the rest of your outfit as well. these i feel are the two best looking ones.

@sheepie – which level potion did you use? i’d be interested to test the various degrees and see if there is a notable difference. of course, it’d be hard to test exactly, but on gut feeling, it helped (psychological effect? hmmm).

dear Tyrians, so i’ve been running a few dungeons here and there (for my exotic armour as well as legendary gift), and not until recently did i start using potions in additon to food. Did SE Path 3 yesterday and invested in some Strong potions of dredge slaying, and wish i’d done this even before i ever set foot in a dungeon!! highly recommended for those who don’t already do so.

Just wanted to put together a quick list of what potion works best for which dungeons.
You can purchase most corresponding potions from dungeon vendors.

• Ascalonian Catacombs (AC) – Potion of Ghost Slaying (but cost 200 AC tokens for the recipe and come out soulbound)
• Caudecus’ Manor (CM) – Potion of Outlaw Slaying
• Twilght Arbor (TA) – Nightmare Court Slaying
• Sorrow’s Embrace (SE) – Inquest Slaying (Path 1) and Dredge Slaying (Path 2 and 3)
• Citadel of Flame (CoF) – Flame Legion Slaying
• Honor of the Waves (HotW) – Sons of Svanir Slaying
• Crucible of Eternity (CoE) – Undead Slaying
• Arah – Undead Slaying

Would appreciate if anyone could help confirm the question marks or any other suggestions! i’ll edit this main post accordingly.

your best bet right now is probably to do the jumping puzzles. the drop rate for WvW badges through regular combat is pretty low. although, i don’t kill a buttload of people so i can’t confirm, but i’ve heard they really aren’t great.

i have friends who swear by eternal battlegrounds puzzle, but this heavily depends on the ground you have as your server. lot of griefing goes on and can take quite some time.

i “farm” the borderlands (BL) puzzles whenever i’m on during low population, or when i’m actually doing WvW and happen to be nearby. if you’re really seriously about it, as mentioned, you can do each puzzle once per day, 3 BL maps, 5 characters. so if you get a 4 – 5 average per run, one day you can get up to 75 badges. just make sure you have a lot of swiftness, to make sure you make ‘em fast, and learn to avoid griefers or enemy players in general. sometimes, if you see a lone player, you can /bow or /wave to let them know you’re not hostile. but who knows, some may do the same, to have you loosen your guard and still attack you. (then again, a lot don’t condone this, since WvW IS a PvP zone, and you’re essentially letting enemies get blueprints for siege, which affect WvW gameplay —> another reason why i try to do this during downtimes)

things to note:
- i’ve heard that badges you get from chests from the JP’s scale by level. this is more true on the EB puzzle. for BL’s, you’ll usually net 4-5. i’ve gotten up to 5 on my level 2’s, up to 6 on my lvl 80, but i have also received as little as 3 on my 80 before as well.

good luck! and do have fun in WvW. it’s quite different from your standard PvP i want to say. try to find a good group to run with, if you’r elucky and it can be quite fun : ))) hopefully WvW will balance out in the long run.
