[CDS] – Sanctum of Rall
hey Eucyon! i’ll try to answer the questions that are applicable to me and from my perspective
Dungeons
Thiefs
FOTM in PvP
Fractal dungeons if you’re interested
WvW
hope this helps!
great look, btw!
i feel using more “refined” looking weapons would look better for your character if you really wanted to match. i.e, i feel great, wide, or bulky looking items wouldn’t go with the look as nicely. but who knows, perhaps it oculd if you find the right item.
check out Dulfy’s Great sword gallery and or the great sword gallery on the gw2 wiki! they have most if not all GS’s there. then you can go check out the corresponding swords to see if they fancy you.
for your easy access:
http://dulfy.net/2012/11/07/gw2-greatsword-skin-gallery/

then personally, a few off top my head.
agreed. i don’t use ’em in the exact same fashion as you do. but having two snares with one weapon switch, and one being an insta-snare is pretty darn awesome.
and true, i use the snares a lot less in PvE. i just sort of use it as an opener for my hammer since it’s the most ranged. sometimes it’s useful for certain bosses that move around a lot, although most of them are anti-CC half the time as well.
in WvW, it’s great for chasing down stragglers or fleers though.
i use accuracy on my hammer for the extra perm crit. sitting at around 46% with full knight’s gear now and it’s not bad.
i personally feel the sweet pot for HP is around 15-16k. i’m happy and comfy with 15k. bottom line is probs mid-13k for me. so perhaps, like you mentioned, a bit of HP for some more crit.
oh mang. ha, good point LameFox. i’ve done that before, when seeing someone dead. i ask if they’re around 1) to test if bot, 2) to test if AFK. if they’re AFK, i won’t wanna keep allowing their armour to be damaged either if mobs happen to chance upon them. lol.
this, perhaps, needs to get looked into.
hey there, the possible known karma boosts that affect karma jugs (at this point in time) are the following:
so total = 4,500 *(1+0.5+0.05+0.15) = 7,650 karma for each jug
i haven’t field tested this, but have heard it works from various sources, in others, other places, in-game and personal friends. i know for a fact karma booster (50%) and guild banner (5%) work for sure.
i don’t explicitly farm CS or SoD actively. only every so often and not hour son end – taking my time harvesting karma :ppp.
but on Straits, i believe it may be referring to the temple events? which considerably take a lot longer.
when i was last in CS, after the “nerf”. i ran around doing other events more, for e.g. camp events which i don’t alway kitten. and even some slightly further ones, since it takes so long for Plinx to get started again.
in general, i feel it i type the message in a different way, i don’t get surpressed as raedily.
for e.g. first time – “LFG CM Story”
then i’ll go “still looking for CM story, come help me!”
and what not.. lol make it more personable.. not sure if it helps. but in my head it does.
that being said, it’s only goinng to get harder to ge groups going now, at least, with FotM just having been opened and peolpe rushign to the top. let me know! i have a group that have been looking to do CM story, just looking for the time to all meet up. definitely willing to help another out as well ; ))
which server are you on?
add me, and send me mail so i know it’s you as well. if i don’t add you first.
pretty much summed up by Dee Jay. i think crafting is mainly for if you want to make a certain legendary which requires that gift. or if you want to craft yourself. i enjoy crafting but sometimes, even i get too lazy and just use TP or other means. :///
i’ve heard jewel you can net some profit, but even then, the costs aren’t exactly low either, especially now with rising prices of ectos and other T6 mats.
the change should only be in PvP. in PvE, dungeons included, the dodgeroll wasn’t as heavily affected, if any at all. was my understanding. perhaps someone can confirm? bottom-line though, it’s still working wonders for me, my group and with this build.
@LameFox – thanks for reiterating that! very very true and it’s the finding groups that are hard. hopefully ANet will be able to implement a system where peopl ewill be able to find groups more readily. so far, i haven’t troubles with finding groups, regular dungeons or fractals, but i can see how it can be a problem. for e.g. take a low populated server – most people will be high level, then new comers join said server, because all others are full, and everyone’s at lvl 10+, the new comers, unless if there are enough to group together, they will never be able to find a group.
:DDD i wasn’t there for gw1, but i know i’ll be around for gw2.
not sure how i feel about ascended gear yet. actually.. i am indifferent. i have my exotic sets i’m happily working towards : ))) and let’s face it, mainly for vanity. (going for two dungeon sets, one for looks, one for stats and tramsuating!
D).
the FotM dungons are in-fact, SO MUCH FUN. they’re short. and i didn’t start regular dungeons util i was 80 so when i first started doin them, i just followed people around. now i’m actually getting the chance to figure things out. that’s besides the point though lol but it’s defiitely added ot my enjoyment of the game. looking forward to doing more and leveing up and further challenging myself. the potential rewards are just bonus to the dungeon itself.
what Nels said. if you just keep on playing, crafting, you’ll have more than enough skill points. even if you’ve unlocked all your skills.
i got my 200 well before map completion. so just keep playing ; )) you’ll get ’em in no time.
@Nels! hey there! sorry to hear you weren’t even able to log on :/// hope ANet keeps learnign and growing and creating better events! they have great ideas, so missing a bit of refined exexution, especially with server connectivity and how it holds up. i get DC-ed a lot whenever new builds come on. they tell me i need to check with my ISP, but i know that’s not the issue. :ppp haha. i have utmost faith in thsi company and thi game though.
that being said, i never played gw1 but have only heard amazing things. glad to see that’s still going for ya and you were able to make personal bests! ; )))
i actually just wanna partake in the event.
i did mention in various other threads before regarding the timing, and i in the end, contrary to what i had thought i’d do, i chose to sleep instead (getting up at 4am for a 2 hour event, leaving only another hour to prep for work was not as desirable).
don’t get me wrong, love the game. this event was great as well. perhaps some excution issues? definitely looking forward to seeing ANet learning from this and plan for future events!
lol, am so glad an happy to see so many new faces here and even more chatter!
D that is forever welcome.
@all the new peeps – a BIG welcome!
DDDDDDDDDDD
@Lexy – sorry to hear what happened. :/// ANet should be taking serious steps to get things fixed! hopefully everything works out the way it ought to, and then some.
i, for one, didn’t partake in any of the “one-time” events, lol, as i actually chose sleep over games. they all started at 4am for me, and seeing as how tired i already am now at work with a close to full night’s sleep, i’m glad i chose bed over Tyria. that being said, i LOOVE Tyria. and the karka were pretty fun. i did hear the events were quite buggy though. all in all, great event, perhaps some execution could use a little polishing though. but then again, this game is relatively super new in MMO terms.
@ Ascended Gear – Glitch, i completely hear ya. i for one did not know about their manifesto. lol, i just got the game cause it looked kewl and my wife was a huge gw1 player and she was excited for gw2. i got the game and loved it and was pleasantly surprised to hear it wouldn’t be a gear-grind. that exotics would be higest level in terms of stats. the way i see this new type of gear, it will drive people who focus on min/max to want them. the way i understand it, you can use infusions, but you can’t use the regular runes? that for one, is a huge turn off for me and i’d rather keep my runes. not sayin ascended gear are sour grapes, but the few extra stats (so far) don’t seem all that appealing. and it seems more fractals dungeon focused? if they bring the agony condition out into Open World, then we can see an even bigger problem.
the gating problem is widely spreading already. there are people calling out for only lvl 8’s and up only. what if a friend of mine decides to join two weeks from now? doesn’t ANet advocate attracting newcomers all the same? now in map chat, there are only goign to be people spamming for high levels. and varing levels at that so it would be impossible to keep track of what lvls u need to be.. but the new-comers would find it really hard to find anyone willing to do lvl 1’s. OF COURSE, this is where the Union comes in!!! because i, for one, will always be willing to scale back down and help others in need. but the majority of the public, am sure will remain “elitist”, as Glicth pointed out.
that being said, i do appreciate the new dungeon. it’s a great mechanic. it’s fun. though perhaps not as rewarding as the existing dungeons, i DID really love some of the mini-dungeons. colossus one to be exact. absputely adored it and was fun trying to figure things out on my own. but perhaps ANet does need to sometimes take into account what possible situations could come of these wonderful updates.
back to Ascended gear, i do hope they don’t keep releasing more and more stats. people will argue if there’s nothing to grind for, then they won’t play the game and ask for more. at the same time, the same people complain about grinds…. hmmm. i would be extremely happy if they just kept releasing new maps, areas, dungeons and or maybe even an extension of the personal story! with more fights that require organized play, that you can’t just faceroll through because you got better and better gear. something that takes practice and skill to learn and slowly progress.
@the aggro mechanics… i’ve heard each mob / boss have different triggers? i know that toughness for one is HUGE. as well as if you’re reviving a downed player, etc. just yesterday was doing AC Path 1. and we ran into the troll!
this guy’s a bonus element in the dungeon and you can draw him to fight with another mini boss. watch them fight then you reap the profits
. anyways, our party said to let the two of them fight, but they kept shooting from ranged and didn’t seem to aggro either of the mobs. i did the same, and for fun, i used my Guardian elite, TOme of Wreath and started laying fire on them. and then all of a sudden the Champ Troll turned away from the other mini boss and started coming at me. kept following me until i had to run into the water. aftere a bit, i saw the two going at it again and ran back up. right when i was near enough, the troll came for me again right away. he even ran past all my other teamamtes, who were still hitting him, whereas i wasn’t doing anything (so there was proximity, and/or dmg being dealt at play here) but he was still going after me for whatever reason. so he made a point that he only wanted to get at me. i then jumped in the water again. de-aggro. O______________o lol, so not entirely sure how it works exxactly.
okay, writing too much now. :ppp again, welcome all!! i am looking forward to the guesting feature. and let’s group for dungeons soon?? the website and or fb group would help a lot. : ))) good to see this going strong!!
hmm, if you don’t have any preference (especially melee vs ranged), i strictly play a Guardian and i do exactly that, PvE, dungeons and farming Orr. also some WvW. the class is pretty versatile, and you can spec for survivability without losing out on too much DPS, i.e. can still kill stuff and see high sustained dmg. i personally play with a hammer, but GS does seem to be able to kill faster.
in terms of farming, if you specc for high crit, which i would recommend as a Guard, the staff #1 alone hits up to 5 mobs in a close to 180 degree cone in front of you. i just circle strafe and spam that and get enough hits / tags. you can also always drop a symbol (does dmg over time) right where you know th emobs will congregate you can get a lot of hits in that way too.
the hammer and GS also do very good PBAoE useful for tagging if you feel the staff isn’t doing enough dmg. but it’s good enough for me : ))
hope this helps. feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.
as much as i love the jump dodge, i have actually never used it in combat lol.
definitely only off high places or ledges!
DD
hmm interesting actually. i’ll have a test later tonight perhaps.
was hoping it’d be everything LOL
i saw a thread with someone having opened 16 chests, but nothing.
i’d imagine rare should be at the very least up in the 50’s. but then again, it’s all probability. you could get it in the first chest, or you wouldn’t get it after the 100th or even more.
it’d be hard to tell for now, but good luck!!!
i loooove that set.
D i would love that for my Norn haha.
whenver i fight ’em i just wish you could loot their armour. not that i want to see nekkid icebrood…
congratulations!
D
i love this site. definitely my go to site for armour ogling. lol. i mean… mixing and matching for ideas.
i know there are some awesome Guardian players in here, who specialize in PvP as wel. but for obvious reasons, they don’t post vids or share. just to keep it competitive ; ))
@Bornthisway – if u check the other thread, one individual mentioned they counted ballpark 34mins between the champ dying and Plinx crash landing again. but that’s just one data point.
34mins????
o wow. that’s not just less frequently.. not that half an hour is a long time… it’s just from what it used to be.
at work so can’t watch the video yet. but i am looking forward to it!
and i like that your name is guide. lol, mainly wanted to say this!
that’s the thing, by doing it the way as planned now, people don’t even have the OPTION of trying to attend said event. and stating that there will be rewards at the end of the multi-hour chan, that you do not want to miss, is not what a gamer wants to hear.
sure, we appreciate these one-time events. but at the same time, continually shutting off an entire player base, due to their timezone and location, i don’t deem very friendly. the fact that it’s the highest concurrence time is a lackluster reason. almost an excuse. perhaps, have future events be at different times? that cater to different groups. of if you want more people to parcipate, why not choose a time where there’s a higher chance for people to choose to attend? i don’t think it’s THAT hard. but am sure they have their reasons.
on the other hand, most ANet staff i’m sure will have to be around and on-call when the events go live, and they’re essentially giving up their weekends to plan this event and make sure it’s running smoothly for us as well. so in that regard, it’s much appreciated.
just hope in the future, one-time events won’t just by default always be on Sunday at noon PST. even if it was a few hours earlier, those in Australia could make the choice if they wanted to wake up a few hours before work and try to experience at least a part of it. and it wouldn’t heavily affect anyone else…
i’m all the way in Hong Kong, but just wanted to say – thanks for all your services!
: ))) hopefully you don’t get stressed over this type of stuff, OP. and that you can enjoy the game as is, whever you are. stay safe!
not sure what the “new” item is, but Miyani is an NPC, usually found right next to the mystic forge fountain in LA. she sells various items that you can use Skillpoints or gold to purchase – usually items and recipes used for various gifts and mats that go towards crafting legendaries and named exotics.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Miyani
added: do note, iirc, she doesn’t have a “vendor” sign (coins) above her head. so just hold Alt and look for her name : )) she should be on the left side of the Mystic Forge (map view)
LOL @ Glitch.
D that’s pretty funny hahaha don’t be crazy. there’s no such thing as traitor to the Legion as long as you have the right heart. ; )))
@Noppy – hopefully soon enough, we’ll see you in game a lot more! these past few days, save yesterday getting on to check the TP, i haven’ thad the chance to play. hehe saving up all my game time for this weekend!
@Omerk, Bri, Nottsg, Lexy, Kaii and everyone else – i’m down to do any dungeons. in terms of story mode, i’ve only done AC and CM. willing to do again though! they were fun. and exp i’m okay with a few, except never set foot in Arah or TA yet. lol
in regards to a dungeon build, i’ve seen a few rangers before and they do awesome! i can’t speak specifically, but in general speccing for survivability is a good idea. you’ll see more conditions in dungeons as well so vitality would be good too. ut then again, i’ve never played a Ranger so i might be completely off since i’m unfamiliar with your traits and utilities. one thing to note with Rangers is sometimes, as much as i love having pets around, i’ve seen them unintendedly aggro mobs lol. so at times, they had to stow them : ((( lol hopefully more ranger vets can speak on viable dungeon builds!
@thomas – welcome!
D glad you’re enjoying gw2 so far. hope to see you in game sooon!
YAY FOR PATCH NOTEEEEEES. love patch notes. and seems everyone’s just in time for doing dungeons as they upped the loot tables ; ))
^^^ i second that : )))
are you and your friends in a guild? you can check out this thread.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together/first
just a collection of folk similar to you, looking for people to do dungons with explore or just chat about anything and everything. it’s more of a cross-server guild now, but we’re looking forward to guesting and even just having people to talk too while you cross the lands of Tyria
p.s. if you’re in another guild already, you’re still more than welcome to join, help other new players out, or form cross dungeon groups as a handful of us are interested in doing so : ))) and feel free to represent whenever.
:DDD this is becoming something else i feel.
@Omerk – thanks for sharing that quote!! that’s very encouraging and glad to see so many appreciate that notion and have a similar approach and or vision for the game. ; )))
that being said, i pretty much don’t have any story mode dungeons done, lol. anyone wanna party up and really explore a bit? feel free to add me in-game, and let me know you found me from here lol.
@OP – do check out Operation: UNION! the legion of Honour
D ’tis a great guild and place to hang out and meet people with like-mindedness as shown in here.
i’m a Norn and i love the T3 cultural set!
D
if i am correct culturals, even T3, are only of rare quality? so they really are only for the looks, since most will transmutate exotic stats onto them… yes?
definitely fun to mix and match ; ))
i think it’s great you guys are doing this. better drops and more incentive to keep dungeons more alive than ever – even with the introduction of a new dungeon and area. well played, Anet. ; ))) and i am glad.
just a small tidbit – that fact and the way you mentioned MF in the original update post gives the misconception that MF is a MUST in dungeons. i know Mf has always affected dungeons as it did in open world PvE. but because such an emphasis, seemingly, has been put on MF, everyone’s going to want to stack MF. nothing has changed, but you made it sound like it’s needed. not sure what would be a way to remedy this, but fire is spreading regarding needing MF in dungeons – which is not the case…
i will stand by, for dungeons, the faster you can clear, the better. with misinformed or greedy people wanting to stack MF only, you’re only going to see more “elitism” in terms of gear and requirements of entering PUGs. not sure if this is intended or not, but i can see this as a problem, and people having toruble finding groups as in, will only find it harder.
wouldn’t you need ground targeting for consecrations for that strategy to work?
haha, i completely understand what you’re trying to say ( i think for the most part). fo rmany similar reasons, this is why i love the Guardian as well. when i was choosing my first character, I was deciding between a Guardian and a Warrior, since i love the melee class and fighting up front and personal (although all classes can too do this). i’m a big fan of heavy armour as well. i went with the Guardianas my main. i have an alt as a Warrior as well, but i find the gameplay of the Guardian so much more suited to myself with the damage mitigation and supportive abilities. it’s interesting you compared him to all those different classes from gw1. Gw2’s Guardian is extremely versatile, and can play multiple roles all at the same time. : ))
glad you love the Guardian. keep having fun! : )))
i want to say for 100% map completion, this will only be based on the areas that were present during release.
there might be extra explorer titles or a separate progression counter for the new areas.
i just don’t think it’s fair to keep adding to the existing. but that’s just me. imagine being 1% away, and for whatever reason, you couldn’t achieve it yet and then bam update, you’re not 5% away again. or imagine the front page where your badge keeps disappearing with every updatE? just thinking out loud now..
hopefully we’ll get an official response as well. : ))
i still don’t get how they’re doing the final event on a Sunday noon PST.
EST is fine, as it’s 3pm on a Sunday. For most of Europe it’s gonna late night, which is not bad either. For Asia and Oceanic, it’s gonna be 3, 4am, if not 6, 7am when a lot of people will be heading into work.
if the finale was done say, Saturday late-ish night PST, it’d still be late night for EST, Europe would be early morning, same for Asia and Oceanic. seems more viable in my eyes. sure it may not be the highest concurrence time “usually” but if you announce this event well in advance, at least the greatest number of people can choose to make this event. by simply defaulting to existing highest population time and effectively closing off a group of people is not the wisest decision.
same with having an event at noon and 3pm on a Friday. i understand you want the events to be timely and last the same amount of time or start at the same time, but if a huge base of your players aren’t able to play until 6, 7pm then what’s the point of having it early?
perhaps i just have a misconception of the player base – like someone mentioned.. college kids. oh well. either way, excited for this to kick-off! hope ANet continues to explore more options in regards to timing and special events for the future : ))) we really just all want to be part of them.
that’s awesome. and nice gear!
D
any special effects??
also, seems fitting with the Lost Shores coming up – even though we see crabs on land, i’d only assume there will be a ton of water focused events as well.
i think both are contributors to varying degrees. since ANet mentioned they’ll be releasing new ways or procuring the pre-cursor, even though we don’t know what it is yet, more people feel like the have hope of getting one now – so stock up on the mats!
i second putting in buy orders. try looking for existing armor sets on the TP. i only say this because T6 mats are going up like crazy now so i assume it might be more costly to procure the mats now. so depends also if you’re going to farm to get your mats. and how quickly you want your set.
i’d say depends what you want to farm. i’m assuming it’s Orr farming so you’d want a class with strong and quick AoE capabilities. i personally love my Guardian for farming. but since you want to focus on condition dmg, it’s probs not the best choice at this moment.
this is based on what i’ve heard from others, the thief has a decent AoE that can tag and you’ve great mobility as well.
i was new to gw2 as well, and WASD in general. the last PC games i played (before some d3) was red alert and warcraft 2 lol. so it took some getting used to.
that being said, i prefer using the mouse. i feel A + D to turn is too slow, although some people actually prefer this. so like many, i’ve rebound strafe to A and D, and have Shift + A or D for keyboard turning if i need (mainly in jumping puzzles but even then, i rarely keyboard turn)
- Hold left mouse button is to just move your camera angle (good while running through WvW to keep an eye on your surroundings).
- Hold right mouse button to control your character’s camera, along with movement
also you can adjust the in-game and out-game mouse sensitivity to allow for faster turns.
just practice and see what feels best for you! : )))
one thing that could perhaps help make the decision a little easier is if you run into condition dmg against yourself a lot, and what type of conditional removal you have. if you have a lot of condition removal, and have good healing, you can then afford to have a slightly smaller pool of HP and focus more on toughness. that’s what i personally go for as well.
that’s great! and i love this idea : )))
i do that with dyes that i have duplicates of, no matter the quality. i usually just tell ‘em to enjoy. i’ll be sure to add in your little “pay it forward” next time ; ))) great stuff!
i’ll start doing this with low level gear and what not as well
hey Brassbolt! : ))
the wiki has some basic info you can use:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dungeons
you can read up there, but essentially:
this is just a bunch of random stuff off top my head. hope it helps!
(edited by akamon.2769)
bring this to their attention! and am sur eit’s on their agenda and that they’re looking into it. hopefully sooner than later for your cause!
and appreciate the polite and positive tone you maintained throughout your post. ; )) we need more that can share your attitude.
for dungeons that are mainly based on coop and teamwork, even if just as simple as not rezzing a certain NPC, we can all agree communication is key.
that being said, i feel there is more to than just simply if people are willing to listen or not. for all we know, they could have their chat window minimized (i feel like there’s an option like this, or you can have the interface to be transparent or sth and it’s easasy to miss the text), so don’t see anything you type. so it might not even be they don’t listen, but rather, they didn’t even know you said anything. can’t be sure if this is the case here, but it could be a possibility.
maybe if there’s a way to communicate and make sure everyone’s around? when things get tough or there are certain bits where some structure is needed, we’ll chat and make sure everyone’s around. we even had to do roll calls (lighting the torches in CoF comes to mind). it was most difficult when there was one party member who just wouldn’t respond. so we had no idea if they were on the same page as us or not.
hey TacoTwilight! welcome! : ))) i’m in Hong Kong so another in the same time-zone yay lol. Sanctum of Rall server here.
and yes sir, it’s an in-game guild, but not limited to the Guild. soon there will be a website on the way as well. a quick rundown, this started more off the tiny notion of being a helpful player to those who are new, or to those who simply enjoy company. a bunch of us, led by a glorious leader, lol, had like-minded ideas about the difference we wanted to make in-game, and what type of person we wanted to be in Tyria, but certainly not limited to that. ; )))
you can join this guild and represent it whenever you want to, just drop by and say hello, see what everyone else is doing. if we’re talking big picture, this is more a gathering ground for those who want to make a positive difference, who are willing to make new players and vet players feel welcome all the same, to share knowledge and have fun and to talk about anything and nothing.
the guild mainly consists of cross server peoples right now, so the only way to play together is if you have people on the same server, or through dungeon instances as the moment. we’re looking forward to the guesting feature ; )))
and we spend a lot of time on the forums here as well. lol.
From http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chat
for general i usually go /m
or /s for local chat.
iirc, you can click the little cogwheel in the bottom of the chat interface and you can choose from there if you prefer clicking.
as for emotes, not that i know of. :// so they all have to be typed in akaik.
for reference, you can write your own emotes though! lol, but of course, without animation
