do try for a medium or even small sized and active guild : )) least that’s what i prefer myself as well. or if you’ve done a good run with peeps, add them! and you can always whisper them in the future. i then usually nicknamed them for e.g. AC pug or fractals pug so you sort of remember lol

i run full exotic MF when i’m out in the open. and i feel it does make a difference for me at least. though then here’s my wife, who isn’t in full MF and gets as many if not more rares than i do on any given run. lol. but i don’t mind ; )))

for the dungeons, i accidentally ran a few once without switching out of my MF gear and i did alrighty actually. i was definitely squishier and was wondering why although we still finished okay. my usual set is pow/pre/tough.. so i was missing all the toughness.. but i guess it’d be the same if i wore berserker’s.

if you have the resources and you’re not strapped. i don’t see why not. and you can salvage your rare MF gear and get the runes back out and hopefully get some ectos out of it as well ; ))) you can eithe rkeep to use and/or sell – prices are up there now! last i saw, close to 30s each.

spent a good portion of the weekend immersing myself in WvW.
good fighting SoR! mainly a lot of skirmishes and attacking/defending against BG.
have yet to meet you on the field this match up IoJ. see you guys out there soon.

one of the main differences is what each person wants out of the dungeon run. if you’re looking for a speed run, then specify when you join a group. if you’re looking to take your time, then specify that as well. i’m down to do anything, i can skip, i can fight, i enjoy myself either way and going with the majority saves a lot of trouble and grief and make the runs generally smoother.

one thing i can’t appreciate though is if you’re going to skip, do let people know ahead of time, and not afer you’ve aggro-ed all the mobs. this is mainly for those who don’t know the dungeon as well.. for e.g. you run, you aggro the scavengers, they charge up, people who don’t know what’s going on are already a second late to react, they start running, for some reason, don’t dodge, and get knocked-insta-downed.

if you’re looking for a quicker run, if you’d let people know what your plans are, it’d be that much smoother. doesn’t help when you have to wait on 2 or even 3 out of 5 members caus eyou’ll just end up waiting and wasting more time. which is.. counter-productive…

i would love to be a part of this. lvl 80 Guardian. i have semi-consistent groups to do dungons with but less so lately. what with fractals and all. bah. so have been running PUGs more or helping friends on their first go’s of a few i’ve done before.

i want to say that most of us in this group here are more than farming fractals. ; )) a bunch of us started doing the OG dungeons. i myself am still in explore mode. soon going on a JP hunt!

you’re always more than welcome on Sanctum of Rall!! ; ))) though i am on at weird hours and will most likely only see you on the weekends. it is a great server though, people are friendly and there a couple of us on here from there.

hey OP! all great advice in here.
you mentioned your biggest problem is distance, and i had a LOT of trouble with that as well. i would always overshoot when it was a short jump. if not, i’d plunge to my sorry death for a jump too short. one thing that really helped me is change the camera angle to a top-down view, or a bird’s POV rather so you can better guage where to launch yourself. often a lot of the jumps require you to jump at the VERY edge of the platform and sometimes if’ll even look like you’re off the edge already, due to clipping / graphical issues / character size.

as someone mentioned, don’t forget you can change directions mid-jump! and this has saved me many times.

so it takes getting used to. but this helped me immensely! and later on, you’ll be able to judge better without having to manually move the angle. but out of habit, i do it anyways just to save meself the trouble of falling and dying, if not, having to run all the way back. hope this helps!!

do know that there is a method you can try for this. so you don’t have to reroll your character. if you really want, you can start an alt Guardian, go for the shoulders that you want and then transmutate them to a white/blue level shoulders. after transmutating them, it says it’s still soulbound, but it will in fact be account bound. then you can throw it in the bank, and your current lvl 23 Guard can pick ’em up and transmutate the skin onto your desired shoulders with the stats.

the same method should work for all the other Orders (factions) as well. i went for Order of Whispers and i plan to get Vigil armour. recently i have a low level engi (so hasn’t joined any orders yet) and i got him the whispers hood (helmet) using the method i described above so it technically, should still work.

do note as of now, unless if they’re recently ninja patched it, after defeating the Golem boss and destroying the barrier gates, you’ll hit the second boss. for this part, you’ll want to fight and pull him into the cave entrance behind him. because i believe the mobs DO keep spawning. but if you fight back there, they mobs spawn in front of you and you won’t aggro them. if you fight on the main platform the 2nd boss starts on, you may still aggro the infinite mobs.

hmm i personally loved the game from beginning until well.. now : )) been lvl 80 for a while now, and it’s more or less true the statement tha tyou keep doing the same thing holds.. to a certain extent.

dungeons – i didn’t do ‘em until lvl 80. and by that time, i knew by class a lot more, allowing me to learn faster and actually know why i’m doing what i need to be doing to survive and com eout on top

WvW – being abel to get better gear and have all my utilities and traits available helped a lot in this sense. i first did it at lvl 21 and i see a noticeable difference. : )) definitely more confident as well

content wise – you’ll be doing map complete for a while —> so vistas, hearts, etc..

i will add that i have been having a lot more fun after having been 80. the whole “i need to level up” mentality was out the window. not that i was ever in a rush, but you’re always watching when you’ll level up next, etc. and now, i can focus on getting the gearsets i want to match certain builds. collect even more skins. and going for a legendayr as well now. also slowly learning to help other first timers make it through their dungeons. or play a bigger roll in WvW. i’ll take it on as a personal challenge as well to beter take on champs solo, just for kicks : )))

in terms of leveling up.. is it cause you don’t stick with your characters or you don’t feel attached? i rolled a Guardian as my first.. and rolled all these other alts as well, diff races, classes. i couldn’t decide in the beginning who i wanted to play as my main, and i happen to stick with my Guardian and i am glad i did. partially i think it’s because i got ot know my class a lot better. things really starting kicking in around lvl 30 for me. and i loved the way this class plays : )) so try to level a bit more and i think you’ll be able to find a class that you enjoy more than others, if even slightly. hope this helps!

and leveling.. everything gives you XP : )) map complete zones, do hearts, do a lot of events, mine and harvest everything, revive everything, head into dungeons, try out WvW (as you can tell, i’m not big on PvP-PvP lol). good luck and have fun! don’t feel pressure to be lvl 80, but after high 60’s and up, your mentality does change : ))

i know what you mean, Nay. i have a level 30 sth sword that i’m just keeping the skin of. because early on, when my wife and i got greens, we were so excited!D and she gave it to me. so i’m keeping that skin for as long as time can tell.

would love an instanced armoury or weapons rack or something. and ya, i agree, it being in the home isntances would be pretty cool!

if you are indeed talking about Orders, as a Guardian, if i could choose again, i would have went with Vigil for the armour. but Priory for the weapons. whispers is not bad for the weapons eithe rbut the story is GREAT!

don’t think the orders matter much for WvW.

@Glitch – re: the mandatory reppin, etc haha seems i missed that convo but it’s good on what you guys had agreed : ))) i think one of the best things for this group here is the flexibility and when you see people online, but not representing, never hesitate to send them a tell / whisper! same goes for me. ; ))) i love hearing from anyone, let alone from you awesome folk.

one small suggestion for officers perhaps, if the Union goes into that direction, we can perhaps have set times where a number of officers WILL represent at these times. or could even have specific EU or NA groups running dungeons, like we do but slightly more organized, and hopefully in the near future, we’ll have a few more “leaders” so we can keep helping and allowing the gw2 community to grow. for those with a larger presence on the same server, we can do farming / exploring runs. jumping puzzles run s(G, Kit, looking at you lol), and when guesting comes along. we can organize even larger events! as Kaii mentioned, we can all turn into a stampede of baby quaggans and raid the fields of Tyriaaaaaaaaaa! lol. things i’m looking forward to.

haha, would be helpful if you could provide a bit more info. : )) the questions you asked, all are quite flexible. that’s one of the greatest points about this game as well. so it really depends on what you like doing, and how you want to do it. do you PvE more? have you tried any of the dungeons and want to get better at them? what about PvP? which come in structured, tournament style and/or WvW which are different as well.

if you’re adamant on using the hammer, you can check out the Stickied guide “Altruistic Healing + Hammer” thread in the Guardian forums to give you starting ground. that actually would cover most of your questions. it’s not a strict guide, which allows more flexibility and customization on your own part. and also helps you learn about the class on your own.

gw2lfg.com i can vouch for as well! in the past few days, i’ve found various groups to do different dungeons. it’s still a WIP i feel, but it’s been awesome so far.

also, once you have a group, if on same-server, might be helpful to have one person ask map in LA, and one ask for more members at the dungeon entrance. same with cross-server (afaik, only works NA with NA, EU with EU, no cross region dungeoning).

good luck! story is even harder to get people to do. however, there IS a CM story group on here. as well as feel free to pm me in-game. are you on NA?

i don’t mind being in overflow either, and the queue isn’t too long. but it makes it impossible to find other groups, and / or just chat with people in general.

if they did move it though, it probs still wouldn’t help finding groups since everyone and their broodmother’s doing fractals. and fractals only.. BUT it may help bring some life back to chat.. as people often now don’t even bother speaking, since it’s all fractals LFGs

or yes, maybe a Fractals channel. or get that LFG tool that we all want to dearly ; )))

hasn’t been nerfed. been the same. i’ve only seen the troll once, and people were hitting both of them with ranged and didn’t aggro either of them. they were still going at it. i then decide to pop my Tome of Wrath, started burning them and the troll just kept coming after me, and Kohler after the troll. i had to jump into the water below to lose aggro. waited until Kohler was almsot done, and then we all jumped in to ensure we got enough hits on Kohler for “credit”.

the groups i’ve been in were 50/50 kill him for loot, plus he’s really easy, other half still skips and doesn’t see the point. i’m fine either way but i DO like the waypoint in the middle afterwards.

i had originally wanted to get the gift of mastery as well so i’m close to 200+ shards now (half still in karma form) b ut i was thinking about it, since the event is always so buggy.. it would suck to have thought i’d gotten enough and then turns out i’d be missing 2 clovers and had to wait a week for the temple to open again.

gonna get clovers out of the way first, and then go for mastery gift : ))

ahh, i can’t find it right now but there was some talk of a video of someone who has both juggernaut and either twilight or sunrise. i believe it was sunrise. and somehow, he had both effects on him.

i don’t think anyone’s done the same with two one handed legendaries yet, but i hope both effects show their individual effects!

answering backwards, if you look at dungeon weapons, the cost of two-handed weapons aren’t exactly double that of one handed either.. so they might have taken that into account? the thing with the legendaries is also demand dictates the “cost” so some could be significantly higher, or a lot less, than “what was intended”

hey Mosharn, sorry to be the one to break it to you, but at this point in time, i don’t believe there’s anything that can be done. you can try to put in a ticket, but it was the user’s mistake (i did the same once with karma) and supposedly, there is no mechanism that allows ANet t refund in-game currency at the moment.

you can still give it a shot though! but from the many existing threads, it seems there’s not much that can be done.

i have a dagger my Guardian can’t use either. : )) so it’s just sitting in my bank. probs throw it in the MF someday soon.

one question – did you get a confirmation window when you clicked to buy the bow?

@bri – ahh i had trouble finding a group for exp on my server! might be the time i was going at. wait, so again, cross-region dungeons are not possible? i remember Glitch saying it was alright, but not sure if that changed or what not. i would love to do a run with you guys! :OOO or do a run of anything with you guys haha

the hammer is the one with the colossus! that’s one of my favorite fractals actually. but it definitely took us some time the first time around. i’ve read it’s one of the harder fractals. the novices with their AoE’s get pretty annoying.(( and armour repairs DEFINITELY get in the way. when i first started dungeons, i ended up spending a lot of the loot on repairs as well :// practice makes perfect!!! dying to play the game now, just talking about it.. haha

glad to hear that your night ended well though! sometimes you just gotta go do something else for a change after some frustrating times. that being said, i wouldn’t have gone to malchor’s for that, lol. kudos to you!! : ))

quick question, though not to rerail the topic.. did you guys do it across all your characters? or all on one? : )) i onno why, i already have 3 on one of mine (silly mistake switching early on to another craft, and it was already lvl 80+ so i didn’t wanna start over on an alt) and i kind of like having it all on one. though would be a waste of silver to keep relearning, etc…

but yes, i do like crafting! i love the “discovery phase” and can’t wait to get started on cooking : ))

previously, there’s been a simple fix. revisit the Chantry of Secrets, Whisper order headquarters. trying going through the cave, as well as through the asura portal from fort trinity. i’ve read that after doing this, many players indeed got their gifts and rewards.

hey here! i am very interested into doing HotW story, and then the explorable paths. i am on Sanctum of Rall, however, my timezone is GMT +8. which is 13 hours ahead of EST. so the only times i would match up with yours would probs be on the weekend.

i’ll add you though and if we happen to cross paths and you’re missing one, i’d love to fill in the spot. will try to be as regular as possible.

ANet, the amount of bugs in the original dungeons, as well as other content (Orr event chains, looking at ou) have been around since day 1. is nothing being done for these at all?

i try to be patient with the bugs in the game, because it’s new, but if these problems have been going on for so long – ones especially that do the opposite of reward players for hard work, and or just completely hinder players progress period, why is nothing being done? and i only say nothing is being done, because i haven’t heard anything from anyone regarding these issues. at least keep us updated every week or two, that someone is still looking into these issues.

are these bugs new?

CoE Path 1 is bugged, but it’s not impossible. you just need a stubborn enough group.
and for these dungeons, i understand ANet wants us to work hard, and that’s fine and i actually appreciate that.

i haven’t done Arah yet, but i plan to. i also want CoE dungeons. i do CoF with my friend who needs them. and that’s fine. if i won’t have a good amount of time to set aside for these events and the dungeons themselves, i’ll go do any of the other dungeons.

BUT, having these bugs stop progress is pretty bad. i enjoy the fractals, but at this point, still rather work on the original dungeons. the one-time event was pretty fun too along with the new area and new rewards, etc.. but there are glaringly huge problems in other parts of the game, so ANet, hope you guys and the responsible teams are looking into this.

all of the above re: @Dietere’s post. i love crafting my own gear as well. i’ll farm the mats and/or get them off TP, run to the TP, pick it up, and go back and craft : ))) donno why but it does give that sense of satisfaction.

i guess another point would be for the Legendary Gifts for those who haven’t gotten them yet, or plan to in the future.

some of them are pretty neat looking! : ))) would love to see in-game renditions of them (as opposed to just the previews right now hehe).

i remember reading somewhere that they are drops of tier 3 fratacls. and if iirc, lvl 1- 9 tier 1, 10 – 19 tier 2, and so forth.. so tier 3 = 20 – 29, i.e. lvl 20 is the earliest we can get these as drops? don’t quote me though. i’ll try and see if i can find the “source”

@Deffy – i knwo what you mean. i didn’t go into dungeons until lvl 80. and by that time, everyone was doign speed runs already. most of the time, i was pretty much just following people, not knowing why i was doing what i was told to do. and that’s if there was a “leader” or people spoke up.

hopefully in the UNION, we’re able to get some runs going and i definitely don’t mind leading some of the more familiar ones. where we can take our time : )))

@Deffy – same goes to you! i’ve never really played a traditional MMO or at least games with the holy trinity. so it’s interesting how gw2 plays out.. cause it’s more of an everyone take care of yourself, but also support one another type deal. but as far as dungeons go, or where “teamwork” is needed, it’s quite fun and exhiliration, especially when you make it through a tough encoutner!!D

afaik, there is no stat combination as such.. for now.
you can check out dulfy’s guide, go to the armor section and check out the different stat combinations available in game.

while leveing up my Guardian i was sword / torch until i found the hammer.DD
didn’t start using scepter and staff until i hit 80 and dove into dungeons / WvW.

now i mainly use the hammer and / or greatsword sometimes. then on my second set, it’s almost always the staff now! sometimes it will be scepter and shield, or scepter and focus depending on the situation.

the staff mainly for traveling using Symbol fo Swiftness (#3 skill). and #4 for crazy might stacks, as well as burst healing (if you trait for altruistic healing —> Valor line grandmaster trait).

for leveling, GS and or the sword is very good for mobility and high damage. GS for some cleave. sword is good single target. more combo finishers on the GS as well : )). i personally lvoed the hammer though so that’s what i stuck with. the mace / shield is more defensive so more suited for dungeons perhaps, but as long as you enjoy it, you should stick with it! if specced right, the mace still hits like a TRUCK! and you’ll find yourself almost never dying : ))

i want to say i only use Black Lion when the rune / sigil can sell for quite a bit on their own. : )) if not, i just use mystic. at the same time though, if you have Black Lions to spare, why not lol

hmm never ran into a bug for Path 1. hope this isn’t a long-lasting bug. they do need to step up their game in regards to bugs that have to do with normal game-play. in areas that have been in the game since day 1.

for path 2, the mortar reparing bit.. you can kite a graveler to her and just let it kill her. then revive her and she should reset and start repairing the cannons.

i’ve heard people say it usually bugs if you don’t kill all the mobs along the way. but who knows.

i can see both sides of the story. both sides as in: (1) don’t need ranged / ranged not good enough and (2) ranged is always good to have as backup for specific situations.

definitely don’t condone you being kicked, and especially not the name-calling or swearing.

that being said, i personally think that it’s great that you’re so confident in your skills as a Guardian and being up close and personal. that’s how i play my Guardian with a hammer / GS as well. but i usually have a staff / scepter as back-up. in fact, i carry all weapons in my inv just in case. you never know. : )))

i was running AC once and while hammering away, giving everyone protection and retaliation, and symbols specced for healing… not that retal is THAT great in PvE.. i was met with a “STOP DROPPING LIGHT FIELDS”. and at that point, i switched to a GS and didn’t use #4. cause they wanted non-stop might stacks. although, i gave them up to 12 stacks at any given time.. still, i’d just sacrificed a little and have the rest of the run be whine free and better for the dynamics.

not saying what you did was wrong, but if they were giving you crap for not using ranged for a long time, then i’d say be the bigger man, switch to scepter, or even tome or wrath, whatever just to pu ton a show. YOU know YOURSELF that you can do melee. and you don’t have to prove it to these.. sour grape players don’t and won’t care to understand other classes or the game’s innate mechanics. so you wouldn’t have had to sacrifice your progress. though, still, kudos to you. and glad you reported them. i disdain that type of behaviour, kicking, name calling, and generally being self-entitled and blaming others for their own short comings.

hope they have to face the right consequences.

well with the new dungeon bags of wondrous goods drops, you do get a bit of silver each run. and last time i did CoE, two days ago? i got a core and also one rare at least. (wasn’t running with a lot of MF) and other loot from bosses. of course small sample size.. and i won’t say it’s as much gold as a plinx / cursed shore run, but at least you’re not only going for lodestones and getting nothing in return.

and if you’re not going for the armour or weapons… i assume you can do this, you can always exchange for weapons / armour and then salvage them, hope for ori and gossamer, and sell the runes / sigils, other mats or ectos for gold.

i haven’t done much reasearch yet on ascended items as i am rather impratial to them still at the moment.. based on my understanding these rings are drops, as well as the materials needed for them yes? though there are things that overlap such as T6 mats, or ectoplasm.. so i can see how you’re in a sense, made to choose one or the other.. because stacks of any of the listed items above aren’t easy to come by.

at the same time, they DID add obsy shards to the FotM vendor.. so for those are don’t want to be in Orr anymore have another alternative.. or, simply because the Balthazar event is still bugged 99.9% of the time.

it would take on the status of whatever stats you chose for it.
and in this case, it would then become orange and lose “legendary” status. it’ll stll have all the visual effects though.

iirc, ANet had commented on this, but i don’t recall what exactly. if it was intended or not. but the way transmutation worked was always based on the stats of the transmutated item.

SUPPORTED!! this is something i’ve always had in mind and would love to have. : )))

• this wardrobe could perhaps be implemented in our home instances to increase people frequenting back to these gorgeous cities that ANet has created. though for convenient’s sake, might be a better idea to have it in the hero menu
• at the same time, adding on to the idea of having it in the home instance, i once envisioned an armoury, plus a weapons rack.. and as you gained more skins, you could choose a few sets to display on a mannequinn (sp?), mix and match and “show-off” your skins collected. same with weapons you could hang ’em on the wall, mount them, etc.. and this is kind of just for fun, you can invite others to check out your displays as long as they are in a party with you and you trigger the instance. they will only be able to look and not interact with your armour / weapon skins.
• skillpoints or other “currencies” could be used to get more display options, have your “armoury” become more embellished, etc. just another fun, vain thing to work towards – of course, your wardrobe (perhaps, as per the PvP locker rooom) will always be available, so these armour / weapon displays and upgrades would be purely optional, but awesome to have!D

@Shnoof / Jacob – welcome!! glad to have ya on board with us. this is my first MMO as well and i’m having a blast. i started as a Guardian and maxed out my character slots with other classes as well.. i ended up just keep playing my Guard and i am maining the crap out of him lol. if you don’ have a strong preference, i’d say stick with the mesmer (very strong and fun class!!!) and you’ll learn to love it : ))

@Debs – oo very cool! i definitely enjoyed my time in St. Louis. but there’s not place like home not as exotic probably haha but i love it here. all of us are in no rush, so best to enjoy life as it comes! the dungeons’ll always be around for us.. aaaaaaaand i need some toast with my jelly!!! one thing i miss the most is my Uncle’s Thanksgiving Dinner! :OOO droooooooooooooool

wait, i don’t even know how to see other people’s titles. do i click on them and it shows under their Health bar? i vaguely remember seeing some hard-to-see wording…

anyways, one easy way could be, perhaps.. there could be certain emblems that go with each title? and people can choose to display them. although this could make the screen even more cluttered.

just a thought.

not sure if this helps as i don’t farm super consistently at the moment.

i think it really depends on the day and your luck to a certain extent. i run full MF gear too (no MF booster recently because i only go for my 5 events daily, and stick around for a few more if they happen to pop). Past few times, i’ve gotten 1 – 2 rares from Plinx, Tar, Brood, Arena / Gladiator, and the two camps. I kind of like it cause it gives me more time to run around hitting different events and not just Plinx over and over..

every so often, i’ll try to do the Straits event chains (particularly the Balth temp one if it doesn’t bug) and during those runs i actually get a surprising amount of rares and loot.

though again, nothing seems to be as efficient as the Plinx farm pre-nerf.
