@zing – you’re welcome and hope it helps. there are plenty of Guardian vets/pros here who i’ve slowly (and still am) learnt from. here is the link to Strife’s Guardian guide:

you can watch the video for the actual stats. do note that in a group, you’ll usually benefit from your allies as well. use your dodges well and plan how you go about taking on each mob or area. you’ll get it! ; )))

14k is not too bad and i can still feel comfortable with. but more safe around 15k and up. if conditions are giving you trouble, do use your mitigation and cleansing skills. again, Wall or Reflection works really well in CM. : )) high toughness usually does attract more aggro, but i don’t know how the mechanic in this game works entirely. each mob is different as well. do try other dungeons and see if it works better. in general, this build is quite versatile, but you do have to switch around every so often depending on the situation. which is what Brutaly advocates as well – this build can be extremely flexible and achieve similar effects. soldier runes are pretty darn awesome ; ))

and seconding what Fabsm said – use food accordingly to help augment your skills and build! good luck!!

@Andred – thanks for the share! i’ve thought about using Ruby orbs as well. running soldier runes right now though and hard to “sacrifice” the extra set bonuses from runes. but i’ll definitely give it a shot since i’m a sucker for crits. :PPP

i have fun killing stuff. : ))) and i actually don’t mind killing for nodes (if i want them) or just use your abilities to mitigate while you harvest when there aren’t vets, champs and or 50 mobs nearby.

just sharing what i do : ))

White: salvage (crude as well)
Blue: vendor
Green: i just vendor as well and not test my luck with rares
Yellow: TP if above one ecto price (including fees), salvage if below (i use the mystic salvage kit)
Orange: TP ig good price, salvage with BL if there’s a good rune inside. only exception is i save exotics or rares of potential precursors i may need or want

for precursors, you will need to throw in 4 of the same type of either rares or exotics for a (sim slim slim) chance at getting one. for e.g. i am going for the hammer, so i save all rare and exotic hammers above lvl 78 (note, rare and exotics cannot mix, i.e. 4 rares or 4 exotics)

in regards to the mystic forge, my plan now is to only use it if i happen to acquite 4 of the same kind of weapon. all other exotics, if i can’t use them, i’ll most likely sell. unless if the sigil or rune sell for a lot, then i’ll salvage.

doing it for looks anyways. and i like my mad memories backpiece.
i’ll keep doing the fractals for fun but all mats are saved for my legendary. i didn’t even eally look into what it costs to craft ascended items yet.. that’s pretty ridiculous. at the same time, ANet did mention that ascended = legendary status in terms of rarity at least… so understandable to a certain extent?

imagine when they release the full set of ascended gear.

currently, somehow, i am okay with the way legendaries are needed to be acquired. and major props to those who already have one, or two, maybe even three! i don’t need to feel or be validated in-game. i’m going for one because i think they look kewl. and i am enjoying the process of it.

at the same time, some of the ideas brought up here are kind of kewl. like leveling up your legendary. or making the use of achievement points.

i wouldn’t want them to change they way legendaries are to be acquired though. at least not the way the current ones are to be obtained. since many might be close to it, and all of a sudden if you add in new mechanics, and they need to spend another few months. that’s just no fun for them either. but perhaps, for future legendaries, assuming that we’ll see a TON more, they can implement new systems or mechanics.

@G – good stuff! and even more kudos to you. even as a Norn (i was always the runt of the family :///), i couldn’t see myself when bigger charr or norn were around. imagine being an Asura! a human or sylvari could block your view! lol XDDD i’ve been too focused on everything BUT jumpin gpuzzles and really need to go out of my way to experience all of them. i REALLY wanna do the one with the baby quaggans. and die. on purpose.D that’s awesome, i spent a good chunk of time showing someone the jumping puzzle in WvW too (it was downtime on our BL and he was just following me so i asked him if he’d done it before). it’s a tough one on your first try, especially he was new to JP’s and he had to leave before we got it done : (((

@Death – nice! lol am sure it took me just as long or even longer to figure it out! but it’s one of the most satisfying feelings when you DO figure it out, how to get places and stuff. every so often though, i’ll get ahead of myself and be like, “HA! vista, you can’t fool me!” and i run all the way around or far to where i THINK you can get up. find nothing. go back to where the vista on the map and there’s like a clear cut path right up to it. O.o lol

DEK – what fractal level are you now? i’m willing to do two runs in a row, as long as i have the time set out. usually weekends would be good so maybe we can try to set up a time? though, i’m only lvl 3 now. and i’m weary because the first time i went in, i got DC-ed and might wait until the servers calm down a bit after the event. wouldn’t wanna be part of a good group, and then get DC-ed and leave peple behind :///

Deb – MIDWEST! where abouts? i was in St. Louis, MO for about 5 years : )) back in HK now too, so yes, Oceanic for me as well :pp i usually don’t see a lot of people on when i’m on t hough haha. anyways, i’m definitely willing to take it nice and easy for the dungeons! i’ve done a handful, but there’s still more than enough for me to explore! i didn’t start dungeons until i was lvl 80 and even by then, most people rushed through and i felt all i did was following them and doing what they told me to do. and because of that, i didn’t even really know how to run dungeons unless i paid attention. that’s what i enjoyed about the fractals. was at least given the chance to start off on the same slate as everyone else – and figuring things out as you go, was extremely rewarding : ))) tons of fun. so if you’d like, a bunch of us are keen on doing some dungeons too!

@Bri – no harvest nodes in dungeons, iirc. and yes, those do take up a lot of room! lol. so you can leave ’em behind in the time being. and just keep the three equipped in case you come across stuff you really want outside and near the dungeon area that is.

@ all – as Omerk mentioned, no one should feel obligated to do or be anything being part of this initiative. i personally will encourage and challenge you all to always lend a helping hand – though i can say pretty confidently that, most of you already do (a large reason as to why you’re here in the first place!). : )))

just to add, the other factors would be your damage mitigation, healing skills, condition removal, etc etc.. : ))) i love playing the Guardian.

hey Roz, you can check out the GW2 Wiki on Sigils for some basic info. Scroll all the way to the bottom for the general “rules” regarding sigils.

afaik, in your case:

• if you have static sigils (e.g. +5% crit chance), only that weapon’s skills will be affected by that effect, i.e. the latter of what you mentioned
• if they are on kill stacks, only one type of effect will stack
• if they are on crit, there are internal cooldowns, even if not stated, and while any given sigil is on a cd, no other sigil’s effects will take effect
• however, for the on crit sigils, crits from any of your attacks should trigger the effect, i.e. not only from the weapon skills that the on crit sigil is attached to
• and rule of thumb, your mainhand sigil effects will trigger before the offhand effects, i.e. probs shouldn’t stack on crit sigils on both mainhand and offhand.

i personally place permanent effect sigils in my offhands.
however, iirc, i read somewhere that you need two sigils in both mainhand and offhand for the full effect if a permanent sigil?? don’t quote me here though.

i also have a question for others who read this… if i place a on swap sigil in my offhand, will it trigger as well? and a different type in my mainhand.

you can also do dungeon instances together even if cross-server.
i’ve heard that for dungeons, you can do it cross region as well, however, you may experience some lag. haven’t tested this myself yet, however.

mighty blow is definitely very strong! i especially love my Guardian on hammer with running with an ele. specially someone who you’ve been playing with.

i usually start off a fight with empower, symbol of swiftness, and then #2 then switch to hammer and starting bashing away. i usually only switch back staff when i need to back off for a bit (e.g. sometimes, when melee is just too dangerous against certain bosses) and then empower again when i know i’m safe or won’t be easily interrupted. the dodge heals make a big difference too. when i see allies around me dropping a bit, i’ll dodge their way and fill their HP and my own back up a bit just to keep things going. we get our endurance back quick enough.

@IV Endu – once during a dungeon run one PUG kept going “STOP PUTTING DOWN LIGHT FIELDS! you’re runing our might stacks!” so i switched from hammer to my GS, and didn’t use #4 at all. fair enough. i didn’t mind and would rather the rest of the run go peacefully. but it did make me think do to change my playstyle to accomodate for others? especially in dungeons, where it’s all about teamwork… :///

although, i use my staff #4 pretty much before every time we fight, as well as in between long fights so i try to contribute as much as possible. sigh.

also note: the only way to change runes is to replace it with new ones. i.e. the existing /slotted ones will be lost.

@Kit & G – definitely group for dungeons for now, i know you’re going to love ‘em! and YESSSS haha i was the same. i would always be stuck. or falling to my death. :/// whereas my wife breezes through stuff easy peasy mac and cheesy on her first try. O.o it’s always good ahving someone with ya. and the clock tower was definitely by far the most challenging, but i also had the most fun! i got so much practice out of doing! well done for doing it more than once and on different races! always took me getting used to

G, you’re quite the jumping puzzle master, ain’t ya?? haha and well done sticking by . big kudos to ya! and you’re one of ’em who did the clock tower for fun then, eh? lolol.

i only ended up doing it once on my Norn and then i left. for fear of being in people’s ways too much. :PPP then right as i was about to leave, a giant Norn in full pink armour shows up. i left the instance laughing myself silly. teehee.

@Death –D that’s awesome. that part took quite a while fo rme to find as well. if we’re thinking of the same thing lol. is that the jumping puzzle one? good man for hanging around ; )) people like you willing to wait for someone who may or may not come back, especially since you two worked hard together, is few and far between. /salute!

hey Tommytoons! where’ve you been getting your exotics so early on?
anyways, i think at this point, just keep leveling up to 80 first, and then you can worry about exotics then. but it doesn’t hurt to plan ahead ; ))

you can check out Dulfy’s gearing guide as i feel it gives a really good rundown. then you can choose your stats, and see where y ou can acquire them and slowly work towards it.

so essentially for exotics you can get them via: dungeon tokens, crafting and also karma (Temple vendors), and of course, drops : )) completing high level maps also give a few exotics pieces, but of course, you don’t pick what you get.. hope i’m not missing anything!

was in Orr the other day, Cursed Shore – i actually don’t farm this actively, but just to get daily events done fast without having to really look (although after the Plinx chain nerf….). ran into another Guard who needed help with a SP, he /w me and we partied it up, finished the Plinx chain together (along with the zerg) and we went off our merry way to two-man the maze! took our a handful of stinky Risen on the way and we worked wonderously as a team!D the Orrian floaty sword thingy stood no chance against the will of Great Justice!! Tyria will prevail. only in our heart of hearts where we find a place for everyone around us, will be able able to take on the world and protest those that are dear to us from whatever Overlords that spawn from the deepest and darkest depths.

after that, we heroes bidded each other farewell, thanked one another and added each other as friends, then nicknamed him CS Maze SP, lol, just so i remember. ; )) i always make this a practice now, and have gotten to know more people this way.

@Kit – I LOVE JUMPIN PUZZLESSS! i used to suck at jumpin gin this game on my giant Norn and then i practiced a lot (i’ll still make the mor ethan occasionally stupid mis jumps though lol) did you do the new one at Southsun Cove yet? and the Clock tower?? there are a bunch i’ve yet to complete as well all a round Tyria.

i love the honor line though. too hard for me to choose just three major traits.

hey zing, hope i can answer a few of your questions. i’ve yet to test, but i’ve seen another thread (videos) where people were running Pow/Vit/Tou gear, and then Knight’s jewelry, along with the prec to toughness trait, as well as sigil of accuracy and they had around 40%+ crit. though, sinc eyou’re already got knight’s gear, you can maybe get two valkyrie rings, while keeping the rest knight’s jewelry. and slowly upgrade to exotics ( i would skip rare jewelry).

or if you want, you can use full knight’s gear for everything, but use Pow/Vit/Tou chest and pants for some boost in Vitality.

at the same time, i used to run CM quite a bit in rare knight’s armour, and then just green masterwork jewels that were all over the place. i feel for this build, toughness is actually more beneficial. in your new gear, what is your HP pool sitting at? with full knight’s exotic, you shouldn’t feel like a glass cannon at all. CM i think is a bit overtuned and depends on chance a lot. for e.g. if a bunch of riflemen all decide to target you, you’re downed easily. with that dungeon, i always sacrifice a utility slot for Wall of Reflection. Also helps to use a shield sometimes if you feel the need to be more defensive. i feel it’s more the path itself and perhaps the group dynamics you were running with.

even in green working up to rare gear which i ran for a long time, i was able to outlast a lot of content using this build. : ))) hopefully this helps, and keep practicing! choose the traits that work best for your play style and know when to use what utilities that help you survive the most.

p.s. i assume you meant your build was 0/0/30/30/10? instead of 20 in virtues : ))

and so you are planning to craft as well – i.e. assuming you won’t be selling mats? and also, are you going to be crafting a legendary and or any named exotic weapons?

ah, quick question here as well then. i assume even if not intended, multiple combo fields will be strewn across mobs, especially during dungeons or boss battles.. so my question is, which field is applied to our finishers? i assume it’s the last one that is placed? i.e. if people were actually organized and planned to put down a water field, for a blast finisher to trigger AoE heals, but at the moment, a fire field was put down, does this negate the water field, strictly in terms of combos of course.

Curuniel is right. Cultural armour is race only. it’s what makes your race stand out : )))

and just in case:

• cultural weapons can be used by any race.
• order armour / weapons can also be transmutated to white/blue (non bound gear) , causing these pieces to be Account Bound, instead of soulbound. and then place in bank, taken out by other order members and retransmute desired stats

ah, this is something that could work out.
then people wouldn’t have as much problems finding groups for dungeons – although i feel this will stabilise again as most are just focusing on fractals.

path 1 i have a feeling it working as intended, but still bugged to the max. not sure how that’s working out. i was hoping for a slight “fix” this past update but i guess they had bigger fish to fry. hopefully soon! i unerstand the concept of the mobs in waves and it’s a good DPS check, but it’s definitely not as PUG friendly.

i’ll agree CM is one of the more annoying dungeons lol. even other more difficult dungeons i find more enjoyable. not sure why. lot of the mechanics are pretty annoying.

afaik, he should still be available for Obsidian Shard purchses with karma. and there is an alternative method now, using fractal relics for obsidian shards as well (iirc, 15 relics for one shard?)

i think it’s nice there’s an alternative. i, for one, however, don’ tmind farming Orr (and now i usually really only do it to get my daily events done and then i move on). love th fractals but i’m planning on saving up my relics for other stuff for now. we shall see.

no rush for a legendary and the karma will come along : ))) it’s mainly the temple that needs to be taken down and am sure will be able to put together a good group when it’s meant to be taken down.

i’ve heard people who have legendaries already commenting that there should be an easier way to get a pre-cursor. the people who rushed to the finish line (in regards to legendary acquisition) knew well ahead of time what they were getting themselves into. and i /salute them! they for one, can be the ones to claim the fame, that they had gotten the legendaries the “hard” way, before the scavenger hunt.

am glad this scavenger hunt will be eventually implemented. you can never please everyone. at least in this sense, more people will have a shot at these legendaries. and by then, who knows, there may be yet even more legendaries.

i remember hearing about this.. and when i first went into the fractals with my group, i kept going “I WANNA GO SEE COLOSSUSSSS!!!” and everyone was like O.o and after the dolphin one, guess where we ended up!DD

it took us a while to figure out the hammer thing lol, but when we did, we had a system going and just kept going up top. cept for one member who got blown off the map :/// and in the end, it was all worth ti though. everyone saluted, bowed, waved and sent the Colossus well wishes at the end. lol.

what is becoming of this community!!! for the most part, people i’ve ran into have been awesome. and especially on here as well with you lot. but, some people are just.. too self-entitled, if you will.

i want to see the community to keep growing because of the good players, the helpful ones, ones that you were able to share fun moments with, that you were able to go “lol” after a wipe in a dungeon…

for some reason, humans are drawng to negative news. so when new-comers come, all they will notice are the bad.. needs more good to balance it out. it’s there! just not as pronounced as the bad, and people don’t seem to care for it. :///

@all else – have been reading more and it’s basicall thread after thread of people complaining, calling quits and more.. i really think ANet had great ideas but perhaps did not expect the event to turn out this way. so what can we do as a community here??

a lot of the complaints seem to be finding groups for Fractals, and or regular dungeons now, since even less people are doing the dungeons. i’m on a chase for a legendary and other exotics myself, but i will always gladly help others with things that they need. so on that note, if anyone reads this and wants to do Fractals from lvl 1, shoot me a tell. looking to do story mode dungeons as well as any path since i haven’t done most of them (only slightly versed in AC, CM, CoE and SE).

: ))) and hopefully people can keep passing this forward and doing the same for everyone else.

solo-ing Orr territory, eh? ; )) fun challenging stuff. i run the, perhaps the now all-too-common, altruistic healing build. i run a hammer and staff usually. staff for quick traveling, as well as might stacks which i put on before every big fight if i can, or mid fight if i need a quick heal. then i switch ready to smashing with the hammer again. hammer mainly cause i been using it since day 1 (GS-ed for a while and in specific situations now) and for the self como trigger (more boons = more healing = survive!)

if you dodge right, mitigation as well as heals, use your boons / shouts you should be able to take on vets even with adds around them.

does anyone if this is fixed yet?
we had a prety stubborn group and took around half an hour to take him down. luckily, he bugged into doing the running man in the same spot for half the fight and most of us were just wailing on him with conditions. i did as much as i could with a Guardian.

most people were AFk for the majority of the fight.

and silly question, but i never remember times.. when are the daily resets for dungeons exactly? and are these tied to daily achievment, jumping puzzle resets as well?

definitely not screwed. and remain steadfast in your heart!!

i will agree that the low-level zones are quite empty now. which is sad, because the world is beautiful. a few ways to go about this:

• go to ther zones, even lower level zones, and just map complete. this will help with 100% map completion, as well as see the rest of the world, and you’ll gain levels. when you feel ready, you can tackle the current areas you left

• crafting gives levels as well! from 1 – 400 of any given profession, you will gain 10 levels.

• if you can’t tackle the events on said map, you can just go for other items, since pretty much everything you do gives you experience. you can always call out on /m map to see if anyone on the map can come help you. usually, save the big events, most can be done with 2 – 3 people.

i wouldn’t mind that : )))
just read up on the thread with people who finally got on on OF servers, only to get kicked due to new build / maintenance update. at least maybe wait until all the servers were done with the event.

we undersatnd you guys all work over time and over the weekends as well so we do appreciate that. but a happy customer will yield happy eomployees, which then lead to a company that will only get better and better. it’s a virtuous cycle. ; ))

also, if you have any crafting boosters on hand, it helps a bit too. not guaranteed, but in general, you’ll gain a lot more levels. be sure to use them only if you plan to craft for a good amount of time, just to make the best use of the booster ; ))

i want to say it goes up to 8 slots total?
not entirely sure though. i have 7 myself right now.

i like having a full rectangle as well, after hiding separate bags. i.e. no outliers on the most bottom row, so i do a little math to mix and match lol

@Snoring – o dang, didn’t know with infusions stacked the regular stats also get boosted!??
