Akaigi | Warrior Made of Wood
[CDS] – Sanctum of Rall
i think i read somewhere on here that some gifts don’t spawn any loot / gifts.
if i am correct, the bow is separated into longbow and shortbow – azureflame and aether. (not entirely sure if there is a noticeable difference in terms of appearance or if they both just resemble the bow of truth though. ; ))
@Tarn – may i ask what bug is this you speak of? genuine question.
i play mainly with a hammer and staff. occasionalyl will switch out for the GS. or even other weapons including scepter, shield, mace, focus.. what have you.
haven’t felt a HUGE difference. although slightly felt less.. “survivable”. mainly in WvW though. more than still fine in PvE or dungeons. i did switch my armour (incl. runes) as well though so unsure of if there’s been a huge difference in the build. will switch back to old gear and test it again.
it seems goign to the Chantry of Secrets did the trick for most people. if going there regularly through the cave doesn’t work, try through the portal in Fort Trinity.
also a visit to each major city might help. good luck!
i personally quite like Firebringer! XDD and might match since i feel the flames are more “orange-y” than “yellow-y”
but agreed.. love the black aura that comes off the grinning shield! would die to see more weapons like this
hmm some swear by having an MF set and when i am able to survive, i’ll wear my MF set as well.
though, just to add (or take out) some perspective. my wife who has maybe 20%+ MF usually gets more rares than i do per any given run. gets more exotics from chests / rewards and also a precursor as a drop. while i usually am running full MF – armour, trinkets, weapons, runes and food. lol. go figure. ; )))
also, one could argue, if you’re killing a LOT faster without MF gear, you’re technically upping your chances at more loot. which in turn, gives you more chances at better loot. key word is chance.
welcome everyone!
D
@trunks – i’m on SoR as well. what timezone are you in?? definitely more than willing to run dungeons with ya. as well as many others on here! i know a few on NA servers who’ve been doing some dungeons as of late ; )))
@Death – was finally able to do it yesterday!! it’s a lovely puzzle and had a lot of fun. adding the snowballs and being able to watch players while having to wait was a nice touch. but the wait was considerably longer if you happen to make a bad jump in the very beginning XPPP heh. how’re you finding Wintersday so far??
one trick that seems to keep tripping players up is having to revisit Chantry of Secrets, the Whispers order’s HQ. from both through the cave, on map, and if that doesn’t work, try going through the portal from Fort Trinity.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chantry_of_Secrets
so all the counts for the vistas, POIs, WP’s hearts, etc are all completed on your map?
hey there, i feel this has its place in the Guardian subforum. not sure why it was moved.
so you’re Guardian is lvl 80 now? given you didn’t do it through crafting ; )) just stick with what you had most fun with! there are a ton of posible builds out there. sure some may seem more “effective” than others.. but in the end it depends on how you want to play.
i want to say no need to listen to those who tell you to simply “tank”. that is not all the Guardian is good for, though i will argue we CAN do so to a certain degree.
just from reading your post, it seems you want to be more survivable? and looking at your traits, it seems you’re going for as much DPS as possible? personally i feel the Zeal line is not the “best” investment a Guardian can make right now, though i am messing around with some builds for fun. that being said, you need to first figure out what you like doing and what kind of role you want to fill. : ))
then here’s for just in case you do want to…
for survivability, in terms of traits, you can opt for Altruistic Healing (which is what the big sticky is all about). where essentially whenever you place a boon on yoruself and allies, you heal yourself. and with our innate dmg mitigation skills (blocks, blinds, protection and other boons, as well as effective dodging), we’re able to “tank” and be more survivable. that being said, i know a few Guardians who don’t play with AH and still do very strongly. so it all comes down to practice.
but if you do want to stay alive more, you can try that build. i run a 0/5/30/30/5 right now. 0/0/30/30/10 would be a good alternative as well. and you can mix and match however you want.
in terms of gear. if you’re having trouble staying alive, you can aim for full knight’s (power/precision/toughness) armour and jewelry. if you want a boost in health, go for soldier’s (power/vitality/toughness) chest and pants as well. in terms of runes, it’s all up to you. some ideas:
again, these are just some examples of how i play or have experiecned and enjoy. really again depends on how you want to play your Guardian. he is a very versatile class, great at offering support, without giving up too much dps. maybe not burst dmg, but has capability of delivering sustained dmg and can outlast many situations. hope this helps a bit.
the fractals are fun. but i feel some of the core mechanics can be polished a little.
quick question now – i just made it to lvl 4 yesterday. trying to do my monthly well and didn’t care for the fractals AS much. though i do want to experience all of them eventually. if i went back down to lvl 1 to help someone, will i lose my progress of lvl 4?
if so, that in itself, is another design flaw which just further segragates players.
Elite works for me. anyways.. haven’t run this path in a while. earlier was going for the pants, boots and some runes.. and now after the staff. and i like this dungeon. : )) ran this path once since the patch and for the first time did the adds spawn. we also were not able to clear the mobs before he finished his speech (which i heard caused mobs to spawn, even before this patch).
we would just focus the mobs down. and while doing so, Aldus himself didn’t seem to attack us much. whenever i DID catch him in view while focusing on the adds, i just saw him standing there. need to confirm again as the fights were dragged quite far from the staircase. i wouldn’t say it’s not doable though. though i WILL say, when i did it, i didn’t notice any buggy behaviour (random despawning, goign back to full health, etc). just made the fight longer. will try to notice to see if Aldus does / says anything when the mobs do spawn. so far, just seem like it was sth we never experienced before. the groups i used to run with take things out pretty fast, so really unsure if not being able to finish the mobs before hand (speech end) caused them to spawn.
we had to deal with two full silver mobs and then took Aldus down.
that looks awesome! i originally had planned to go for infinite light as well.. but decided it was a little too “slim” for my Norn Guard. though @God Walking – looks great on yours!
personally am going to be after the firebringer. : )) i love the Gladius look and really like the look of the “flame legion” shield that i’ve been using so feel like it’ll match. heh, we shall see.
hmm not sure if this paints a good enough picture – the Guardian can easily solo 5+ mobs, including at least 1 vet in Orr, even in full MF gear with the right set up and gear. : )) that being said, they shine even more in group settings.
highly survivable in dungeons, WvW (i don’t PvP so won’t comment there) and so most definitely in general PvE. perhaps can’t spec for as much burst dmg as other classes, by being survivable, you are by no means giving up significant amts of dmg at all though – still maintain high sustained dmg.
from my personal experience, i was deciding a Guard of War for my main. since the Guard was a bit different, i went with him. played until about 10, and then started to level a War, Engi and even Ranger. i felt similar to you. but i stuck with my Guard for a bit longer. and when i hit around 30, unlocking more utilities and traits, then i raelly started to learn more about the class and had a lot more fun. now i’m 80 and haven’t gone back to touch any of my other characters thus far.
if i kept playing them would i enjoy them more? sure. however, with the Guardian now, i am never bored and don’t feel the want and need to explore other classes.
so for now, stick with it! i felt i was dying more and not doing as much dmg early on. but now?
D i laugh in the face of danger and hit them back twice as hard.
the set i guess could sort of be called the “Mists” set.
you know the name’s of the GS and scepter. and here are the rest that i know of… i assume there will be a version for each weapon as these.
in regards to glowy daggers – other than the two you’ve listed.. i don’t know of many.
the destroyer, mystic daggers have particle effects. but not super glowy.
@iarebest – welcome!
D especially from another Norn Guardian. heh. hope to see you in-game soon! also, do check out Operation Union’s site!
and your character name haha. The Hobbit anyone??? might have to wait until family is back in town before getting to watch it
DDD
hmm if anything, it takes getting used to, but don’t rely on the graphics of your little guy. rather, try to use a focal point and make your jumps that way. know that he can jump a lot further than he looks.
i’d imagine distance, and making the right judgment in terms of timing could be the issue. use a top-down view on your camera angle when making “harder” jumps. has done wonders for me in terms of jumpin gin this game. keep practicing! and you’ll get used to your asura jumping.
first of all, here’s an early congrats!
D
i’m saving up for Juggernaut, as well as either one of the Foefire weapons (GS or hammer). and to be honest, i haven’t really given the “ascended” gear much thought yet, or if legendary will indeed be upgraded to match said stats as ANet has stated.. least it’s not affecting my choice on pursuing either of these. i plan to make more named exotics in the future as well, simply because i like they way they look. : ))
you were after the weapon early on. and now you’ve finally reached it. and true, a core aspect of the “gear” in-game has changed, so it’s only normal you’re feeling this way but go abck and explore why you decided to go for this in the first place. hope i was able to help shed some light, but ultimately, it’s up to you and good luck!
i for one, love it when i see one of these on the field.
Definitely, I will add you and bug you when I do hammers
yay! lol looking forward to it ; ))
appreciate all you contribute to the community!
thanks, Dulfy!
D
can i contribute to the hammer gallery??? lol i wanna be famous XDD
@Rygar – welcome!!! most people definitely won’t mind showing you the ropes to dungeons here! myself included. and i’m nearing end of story as well.
good luck!!!
just wanted to drop b and say HERROOOO! i need to check out this new site and sign up. ; ))
@Glitch, i’m too lazy to check, lol is it placed in the very first post?? the link that is.
i’d say to each their own. to get everyoen to agree on a ceasefire, i want to say is impossible. especially for those who enjoy griefing and camp to grief, without even bothering with the “you’re enemy, i’m stopping you from getting siege” excuse. they’re just there to laugh at you and they will take advantage of this “ceasefire”. ; ))
i try to do them in downtimes i guess or if i’m nearby. but will do my darned best to make up for the time i was “jumping” and kill at least one enemy for every minute i was away. :PPP i mainly do the jumping puzzle for legendary crafting. though at the same time, i do get to use the blueprints to aid my server. and i gladly do so.
i love the concept of the FotM dungeons.. but waiting for these issues to be.. improved on i guess. the concept of people looking for certain levels separates the player base even more than the OG dungeons did. “lfg _ exp only lvl 80 full exotics pls” that is nothing compared to these restrictions fractals place upon the community.
dc-ing and losing just one makes the fractals tat much harder to completely. it’s not even that bad in the OG dungeons.
they’re fun and i want to do them more, but will hold off for now. i’m having difficulty completing my monthly for these very reasons. sadlt though, mainly because the guildies i usually run with aren’t available. and with PUGs more often than not, people will just leave without a word, because they couldn’t settle on a strategy and started arguing andn wouldn’t listen to anyone. we’re in this together.. so if you can’t handle pugs, i want to say… stay away from pugs…. i know i’m late, but i’m only lvl 3 with fractals. our last run was swamp. this guy quit after 2 attempts. what not even 2 mins? and then once tha tperson left, another left as well. and eventually, whole group dropped like flies…..
what i like do is after firing lasers, when i see all 3 fired within maybe a second or two of one another, then i feel safe enough to jump down the platforms. just watch out for the AoE lava rock thingys he casts (can knock you back and you don’t want to get hit by those mid jump). use blocks, or just time your jumps. then usually by the time you get to last platform (out of 3) the shield will be down. you can DPS until you see the shield start flashing. to be safe, i’d say around.. 4 – 5 seconds? could be longer, but i usually don’t risk it. and then jump back out.
for traversing the platforms.. i think it might be a graphical issue. you want to jump when it looks like you’re nearly off the edge of the platform. depending on your character size, it may look like you’re not standing / landing on anything, but it can be done easily without swiftness, whatsoever. helps with a top-down view on the platforms while you jump so you don’t jump too early. i wanna say it’s close to a max-distance jump. and go from corner to corner of the platforms.
of course, with PUGs more often than not, your laser firing won’t be always in sync. or without voice chat. and so if you run down too early, the shield doesn’t end up coming down and you’re left with no one to fire lasers again if you all went down. so let the two down below do more of the significant dmg, but you can defs do your part as well.’
though agreed, it’s not the most exhilirating fight. ; )) i think i may have spelled exhilirating wrong.
CM can be done really fast. but it’s by far the least favourite dungeon of mine. wait, i don’t even like it. pretty annoying mechanics, but if you practice enough, you will be slightly better off. : ))
reflect abilities help a LOT. wall of reflection on Guard, feedback on mesmer i think (don’t play one) and other abilities that absorb projectiles too.
you can check out strifey’s videos as well. iirc, he has a guide on CM Path 3 and you can pick up his strategies where you need ‘em. just search strife and gw2 or dungeon on youtube. pretty good fast runs with commentary! : ))) sorry at work now so can’t access youtube. :PPP (glad i can access the forums!)
the one time i’ve ever done path 3 was using in-game chat. sure it took us a few tries as over half the group was our first time in there but in the end, we prevailed yay. so it IS doable. what Power was suggesting was merely that it can be made (a lot) less frustrating with VOIP. : ))
i think in this sense.. it really is, because you can.
obviously if you enjoy the skin, go nuts! if not, then you can stay just as happy with your mystic claymore (which i think is a great skin in itself).
true they will be upgraded to ascended status or remain “best-in-slot” stats wise in the long run, but at this point in time, i don’t think we can truly say where the pink gear is heading or the general “gear” rarity types overall.
so for now, you do it for the looks
D and it’s something to work towards for me. don’t get me wrong, i just pop on and have fun.. i’ll do dailies, monthlies, what not, and slowly accumulate what i need for th elegendary. it’s not the end-goal. but a.. by-product, if you will.. for lack of a better way of putting it. a giant bonus! to playing a game that i have so much fun with.
congrats!
DD
if you look closely, it’s the last thing on the list. and he received all the other items (in-chat box) and i guess he waited until they slowly disappeared and spark was left?
either way. good on you and hope you get your precursor soon! which one is it gonna be for you?
fair enough.. crafted exotics / legendaries aside though.. i’m using the corrupted sledgehammer right now, which took some time / resources as well but i’m quite a fan of it. the lionguard is not bad. the anchor if you enjoy some humor (or pirates in general). the magamaton (though also getting pricier). the glyphic ones i’ve always enjoyed. then we have the dungeon skins, such as the kodan hammer, AC hammer, and the Orrian hammer are all quite nifty too i feel.
but still, i will always welcome new hammer skins. : ))
for WvW, i heard / read it was also on the EB chest (which is a big one?) whereas the ones in the Borderlands not confirmed. though i’m leaning to believe that they don’t.
my wife got a precursor drop from Bjarl in CoE. i swear she always gets good loot. ; ))
what i found that helps is if you, first of all, don’t spam the LFG messages in chat.
and secondly, change the formatting, words you use, etc
for e.g. you can start with your standard “LFG SE Exp”
then after a while, if no responses, you can then go “LFG SE any path! come join!”
etc etc
and you shouldn’t get surpressed as easily or as fast.
(and www.gw2lfg.com really is handy at this moment while we wait on an actual in-game LFG tool)
iirc, officials mentioned that Kholer is supposed to be an optional boss. which now gives some loot, a chest, as well as the convenience of a central WP. he was never needed to advance any of the paths.
i think in your instance may have been a one time bug? did you report it?
usually you can just run past Kholer and will be fine.
@Quark – the skill refraction absorbs enemy projectiles and grants allies retaliation. so you should be getting retaliation if you are within or affected by the bubble underwater. unless if you’re referring to PvP, which i assume not.
haven’t experienced this either or have anyone else mention it. i’m consistently using sink when underwater as a Guard and my teammamtes have never commented, not have i ever see it happen visually.
maybe if you can, try catching it on video next time
@ExquisitePriide – it’s liek that for a reason. : )) this “build” or “guide” won’t tell you exactly what to do. the best thing of the altrustic healing build is that there can be as many variations as you can think of! experiment a bit, take a look at the lines and see which ones you like. there are some traits that benefit more and create more synergy but you can still choose and pick to your own tastes.
i for one used to play a 0/15/30/20/5 build. now i’m running 0/5/30/30/5. i know some who swear by 0/1/030/30/0 and others choose to go with 0/0/30/30/10. and i’m still coming up with others as well.
so go nuts!
hmmm i had a similar feeling reading this write-up as it was a LOT more detailed. though, as the saying goes.. you can’t please everyone! wait, is that even a saying? anyways.. with Lost Shores event – people felt they didn’t know enough and voiced out. those who were fine with it, of course didn’t have anything to say. now with Toymaker and Wintersday completely laid out (though i still feel not in excruciating detail), people who feel too much was given away, are voicing out. And again, of course, those who have no problem with it and like the extra info, won’t have anything to say.
i guess, what ANet and Devs need to do is have a further option when “introducing” new events. one overview page. where you can CLICK to find out more, and be warned, that may give away potential spoilers. so for those who want to know more, can click the link and read more. for those who DON’T want to know more, simply won’t.
but after that, if those who didn’t click the link cry and say they weren’t given enough info and are missing out, or vice versa, those who clicked the link and said oh my surprises are ruined… then, well..
but in all seriousness, that COULD be a good compromise. though in my mind, it’s a bit silly. but the best way to cater to all who feel so strongly about these events. which is a good thing! it shows that people care. : ))) and hopefully gives ANet more incentive to do bigger and better.
you don’t like any of the existing hammers? : )) i’m definitely always one for more skins, but there are a bunch out there that are pretty neat i must say.
that being said, i certainly wouldn’t mind seeing a new hammer skin for the holidays! make that all weapons matter of fact.
it takes practice. i used to be terrible at jumping in general in this game. let alone jumping puzzles. in the end, i made it to the top of the clock tower. it took a LOT of practice though. and not once during trying did i tell myself, “i’m never gonna make it” or “i suck at jumping”. i just put those negative thoughts aside and kept practicing.
why do you say you’re not good at it? or what are some things you feel you could work on? and then tackle those aspects.
plus, the best bit of the jumping puzzles for me, at least, is the process. or figuring out where to go. and enjoying every jump and making certain jumps that seem impossible. the rewards, i really don’t care for too much.
so would you really want to finish a super 2 step jumping puzzle at get a little reward? or be abel to improve your jumping and then be able to master any jp anet ever decides to throw at us again?
i second using www.gw2lfg.com
it’s pretty darn good at finding you a group if you need. ; ))
at the same time, i’m willing to do lvl 1. i’m only lvl 3 or 4 myself. i’m really only going to do it for the monthly until later i guess.
i am only proficient in the Guardian class and i feel he’s definitely pretty strong in being supportive, especially front lines WvW. it’s a great class for pushing and many times i’ve been able to help bring people back up to their and/or keep their health up. a lot of our utilities / skills as well as virtues heal, give boons and or provide mitigation in a group setting. i can do okay solo, but my Guardian definitely does best in a group setting.
though i’ve been with many a warrior that have been extremely supportive as well. hopefully more can chime in and give you better perspective.
what race are you might i ask? just outta curiosity.
i play a Guardian as well and i too am going for a legendary (Juggernaut) and i am a huge fan of the Norn t3 cultural armour. though i do see more and more people sporting the cultural armour. ; )))
as the post above, we can’t decide for you, but i will say, if i see you with a Sunrise, i will stop and stare at you and offer you a compliment. if i see you in cultural / well put together armour, i will stop and stare at you and offer you a compliment. lol. but not that that means anything so i guess it really depends on which you value more, or want more. and do you want sth now? or keep working towards something?
another thing to note – pre-cursor prices fluctuate a lot. and with said “scavenger hunt” coming, if and when it comes.. and we don’t know what it is yet exactly, may have som indication on how the pricing of pre-cursors will be.
whereas on the other hand, i want to say that cultural armour’s cost will remain static.
if you ultimately want both, than perhaps keep saving up for the pre-cursor? cause even if the prices drops dramatically one day for whatever reason, you can pick that up, and maybe have leftover to contribute to your cultural armour?
just thinking out loud…
hmm interesting idea. and i call you crazy!! that being said.. lol, what about a service for those that donate as well? for e.g. if they donate say 1g or whatever amount, they get 1 “call for help” and you must aid them in say.. getting a skillpoint in Malchor’s leap. or they’re missing a 5th man for a dungeon run and you cannot leave until it’s done?
also, i assume you’ll be able to repay anyone who lends you gold within 6 months, using the stats you’ve given (10g per day). so you really just want to get your legendary asap? as you’d be essentially farming 25% more gold than you need, AFTER you’ve gotten your legendary. just curious : ))
thanks for the quick reply – follow up – what about rune boon durations? e.g. water x2, monk x2, major sanctuary x2?
quick question – iirc, boon duration applies to allies as well and not just myself, as long as i am the one applying the boon? what about specific “boon” durations? for e.g. retaliation that comes from say the Vengeful trait in the Virtues line? though i assume that for this specific e.g. it’d be purely for myself
looking into a boon duration build for fun.
@Aeleniel – couldn’t agree more. this here really does move too fast, but am glad. looking forward to the site in works for a place where all this chatter can go! as long as we don’t scare off any new-comers ; ))) although, i have to say, all this nuttiness has done nothing but draw in more peeps! so kudos to you all. /salute
@Elowin – stepping stones, eh? O___________o definitely good practice though heh. wow, we’re i think around the same-ish progress in terms of our story. almost done as well, but sitll feels so far. they make you jump around the zones so much it’s silly lol. but i know you can do it!! have you done all the WvW maps for completion as well?
supposedly you can dodge through the ring, no?
the first two swings of the hammer easily net me multiple crits of high numbers. and then adding on the last swing, and then followed by a mighty blow. you see even higher numbers.
don’t feel hammer needs a fix at all. it’s in a pretty decent place right now. i would love movement while casting #5 but have no huge gripes with it. apart from using it to “trap” people, using it to “block” works wonders as well.
i am definitely more a fan of being in melee range myself. though as mentioned, Guardians do shine, i won’t say best, but greatly when in reach of allies. so at times, if my allies are all going to be ranged, i’ll try and back off a bit, try to support from a distance as well and create more grounds where we benefit from one another the most.
i love the staff myself. especially the might stacking with Staff #4. i’ll roll back, offer boons to my allies, then rush back in. so this helps me keep the fight dynamic as well so i’m not always just standing still smashing away.
we’re not best at ranged, but we’re definitely not useless. even Tome of Wrath i have a lot of fun with. #3 boons your allies. #4 gives quickness for a couple secs to allies, and then is tart laying waste with the ranged moves.
this is pretty neat. i appreciate all your build threads and contributing to the Guardian community Silent. i’ve yet to see the vids but will take a look when i can.
i’ve been running a more.. hybrid build if you will. definitely lot of sustained dmg there, and high survivability but been looking to up that dmg output a bit, and rely on my own reaction times, execution and situational awareness to make up for the loss on survivability. will be ineresting to see how this works and i plan to build a zerkers set Guard as well for fun to see how it fares.
i myself haven’t used meditations as well. willign to give it a sho. do you think this build could work without them though?
hahaha i experience the same thing. i run with full MF set – gear, weps, trinkets, runes… and more often than not, my wife will get more rares than i. even a precursor from Bjarl drop in CoE.
i call this the Your-Wife-Will-Always-Get-Better-Loot than you mechanism that is currently in game.
i run on Sanctum of Rall and from my experience it’s not to bad during Oceanic times. i’m from HK so three hours behind Australia and during the week i play at nights. usually see people running around in open world and/or running dungeons.
i won’t say it’s SUPER populated, but feel free to ask me more questions before you make any switches as well. though i’m also leaning towards your best bet is probs to find a strong oceanic guild : )) good luck!
WELCOME EVERYONE!!!! to all the new folk especially. ; )))
again, i can never say this enough, glad to see this place hustlin’ and bustlin’.
bit late, but that’s awesome some of you folk tackled HotW. one of my favourite dungeons by far. the scenery, etc.. the bosses have a bit much HP but ; )))
@Kaii – that’s a great pic. how are you so shinyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
