time of the longbow rangers is over i think. by buffing others lb got a sneaky nerf. archer archetype is tried to be shifted from rangers to guardians and tanky support is to rangers. an unjust decision by anet but it is profitable. many of my archery loving friends switched to dh.
If ele had more hp, she would be nearly invincible with that sustain. I play zerker scepter focus/staff and never had a problem about hp actually.
lol all are saying the same thing. projectile is not only weak but also dangerous. if you can read animations right you can just reflect a knockback arrow with ease. being immune to damage is something but reflecting the damage is another. and there is also retaliation.
Longbow is good against not careful opponents. but against a well experienced one, you will fail mostly (or swap instantly)
Theres alot more projectile hate in PvP now.
Understated but well said. Projectile damage is the weakest form of damage in the current meta. If put ahainst a skilled opponent with reflect it is also a huge disadvantage for the user.
I think like warrior it is fair for necro to start with little. Class has the potential to be tanky enough, and has several skills to fill the life force. It is a good f skill. Unlike rangers glue eating pet skills.
This pet mechanism is worse than a dead monkey jello.
I am sorry but there is (or SHOULD) be a distinction between “druid” and “ranger”. Druid might be fine nowadays but ranger is clearly far from fine. Pet mechanics suck. Everybody has a form of reflection ( have you ever met two scrappers that can put a reflection dome? It is fun) and also a form of being immune to damage. One hand sword is nausiating, and there are no good traitlines for signets (you have to drop %10 dmg trait for less cd on signets)
I really want to ask to the person who made the ranger (not druid, only ranger without druid talents. Emphasizing on this second time) trait syste: Have you ever played ranger? And why do you hate us so much?
Rangers do need a buff. Anyone who claims otherwise is just clueless about the game.
Dunno about the druid though. Never played it, never got the expansion. But as a ranger fan, we do suck. I can win but it needs more skill and luck than other players.
I think Anet does not like us very much
Someday this kittenti pet mechanics may change, and we might have a chance to become what we were supposed to be. But it is not this day!
This day we suck.
Only thing scepter needs is a range bonus. Others can be handled well (if you are using fresh air with focus) but the ranges of the skills are simply horrid. Even guardians drunken mans swirling pee animated scepter has 1200 range.
And also I really agree on water. Scepter water skills suck big time. They are wet and moldy.
Problem is that there are some professions/builds that are very good for pvp, and there are some “really bad”.
DH is a good example of " good pvp build/profession" due to the fact that fights are held in small points. But in wvw they start to melt instantly. Problem is this part. Not every build/profession can handle herself well in spvp because Anet still can not grasp the immense advantage/disadvantage table in spvp. DH has an advantage of small points (if you leave the point, she gets the “point”. Got it:) )
It happened to me too. Still continuing. Can not log in. This dc’s and unable to login thingies getting out of hand, really.
It is not about guardian for me. Although balancing would be an issue, different stat combinations could bring a little help to build variety. I am terribly bored to see same builds with different names. For my part, I mix and match builds, styles… etc. But with differnet stat combinations we can be more… free? kitten talent tree and utility skill system is already enough limitating for my taste.
For pvp you can try scepter focus fresh air build. I have been using that for a time and feels perfectly fine. With marauder you can easily survive and burst down your opponent. Once you got the right reflexes it becomes pretty fun. Even with this dead-weight scepter nowadays. And no elite spec is needed either.
Well if there was a better mundane archer class, most of us would be playing it…
Well, there is always DH, now…
“Mundane” is the key word. DH is a class that pukes arrow shaped white sticky good magic
Well if there was a better mundane archer class, most of us would be playing it. Pet mechanic is a failure, and it is one of the prime problems rangers have in pvp and wvw. And they are a solid (not only) reason why rangers are not considered “enough” in competitive pvp.
I always think that there should be an option for ranger to play without pets. Just give the kitten f2 as a profession skill and turn that pet off. It brings more pain than advantage mostly. Ok, there are advantages like poison cloud, extra blast finisher, fear…etc. But mostly pet dies instantly in pvp.
If you want an archer type ranger,(with power) nope. Dont. Nein. Lb power ranger sucks so much that I can not even look at it. You have to use quick draw with some melee (gs usually) to deal a decent damage.
But if you want to use druid talents, well they seem strong and good. So try it.
Again it is ok to have a condi ranger. But I warn you; if you want to use traps please do not stand near dragon hunter. You will be so jealous that your pet will poop bricks.
Other games never advertised themselves as : Buy one time only.
Gw2 did.
Ranger : Both pets and druid spec is VAY BETTER than normal ranger.
Other classes: I do not give a single rock.
For rangers it is pay to win. I can say that without any hesitation.
Scepter is garbage if you are not using fresh air. You shout and show everyone what and where you are casting. Easy to dodge or block for many classes. It is a cool weapon in theory but not the strongest in practical pvp. I use it in every match and have few complaints (rather needs for improvements).
Sorry to dissapoint but longbow rangers lead the wind ability can pierce walls and doors too. There are specific points and obstructs, but both ranger and warrior can shoot through walls with arrows (and pierce). I have already sent a ticket to support but I guess it takes time. Try yourself.
If they are scholars , then why the heck are they using greatswords?
This is really not about the roleplaying part, or decorum to be correct. Game balance is off at the moment, new specilizations are rewarded a little too much. But it will settle in a month or so. By the way mesmers are a little too defensive with few drawbacks at the moment. But like I said, the balance will be settled in a month or so (I hope).
I main ele, go marauder, use scepter + focus. Never bothered about low hp anyway. Marauder is already giving enough extra hp for us to go on. If you are playing a high risk character that can do an insane burst, you have to suffer a little. So, in order to keep yourself alive, you have to use your skills, and go off-rotation. Doing something out of ordinary gives you advantage. Thief can stealth, teleport many times, disengage. Ele can disengage, heal and gain invul.
Hp’s are really fine. Ele D/D was already something to be disgusted before patch. Now it is off the god mode. There are several imbalances with other professions by the way. But meta needs to be settled first. I hate to play in a rock-paper-scissors style, where there are only few dedicated counters for some professions.
New elite’s are surely advantageous no matter what anyone says. They are more versatile and powerful in some ways. If the skill lvl is same, HoT classes will win. If you are more skillful, you can beat them with good effort. But it started to feel like " If you want power, buy HoT."
But like I said, you can outplay if you have more skill, experience and reflexes. But it is not fair for a game, which insists that there is a real balance between normal game and expansion characters. There is no balance now, it will scale someday maybe.
Longbow nowadays is utterly crap. Any skilled opponent can kill you in spvp with too much ease. And any clever opponent can kick your kitten in wvw. LB ranger is dead, sacrificed to make druid look and feel better.
I understand this actually. Anet needs to sell the HoT. But I think this is not just for us. I want to play a good ranged Archer. Not mesmer, not magic puking dragon hunter. But it won’t happen now. So back to my other classes.
Can I ask something? I have been thinking on this subject since HoT release.
Why are there so many reflect skills? I mean reflect means you are immune to projectile damage, whic is the archetypal ranger source (longbow, shortbow).
Reflect is worse than immune to damage skill, because if it is properly applied it can destroy a lb ranger (fast reflexes and properly reading the game needed). And also after the reflect, opponent can use his “immune to damage” skills to bug the hell out of you again.
With new skills and professions, there are more reflects and some invuls in the game. People say rangers skill cap is low, but I object. Rangers skill cap is high if you want to survive the battle, not just pew pew.
Other classes have new computer systems while rangers (especially archers) have a rock, with a computer drawing on it.
Ranger is a ranged class with an archetype of wilderness hunter/protector. AI is not distracting but frustrating. Even using as a field or a blast finisher pets offer little. They must either re-made or compensated and disabled in some ways.
And give me a class with decent archery abilities ( using longbow and arrows not magic) and 1800 range, I will choose it without hesitation.
It is easier to accept what is wrong, then fight for a change.
Love that movie btw
If you compare pet system with other traits, it is the weakest you can get. There should be an option for us to disable them altogether. Not everyone wants to play “beastmaster-taunt thingy”.
But if anet decides to keep them, at least there must be a way for us to increase their effectiveness.
And last time: I do not want a caster/druid, or be dependent to a idiotic AI. If I wanted one, I would play a caster class. What I wanted to play was an “ARCHER” which uses a longbow. Not sword, not staff, not axe. Bloody friggin longbow. Which attacks with arrows. Not pets, not celestial astral cosmic puking of magic. Just bows. Long ones. Which are called longbows.
If you are playing a non-meta build, and trying to defend yourself, ogre rune and rock dogs are very valuable. Their little to none damage, crappy AI and small cc’s are important. Stats and bonus damage is important. Removing the ogre rune is a way of Anet saying " holy crap we failed to adjust pet system properly, and don’t wanna re-make it altogether. Lets ditch it."
Before saying “this class needs no skill” please play with it against good opponents. In many cases if you got less tools to work, you need more thinking to do. Using the environment, choosing the right enemy at right time… You learn a lot when you play as a ranger against good opponents with “good” professions.
If there was a bloody way to disable my pet, I would do it without a heartbeat. Pet AI is terrible, their speed is horrible, their abilities are counterable at best. I have played different online games as a archer stereotype ( ranger in some) but this game has the far worst pet mechanics I have ever seen. Pets do work, but what they are is not even a shadow of what they should be.
A bowl of curry chicken might taste good, smell good, even prepared “perfectly”. But if what you want is a glass of water, it won’t do a kitten .
Apply warhorn in this sentence with a desired system/weapon. You shall not try to sell shirts “only”, when customer desires shoes.
This game’s biggest problem is the lack of tester server(s). Anet do not test their ideas or new systems. As a result we see trillions of bugs and balance problems. And they do not listen players or their views. Still ranger has an idiotic pet system that can not be “disabled”. They panic, and nerf things to the center of the earth. Then invent a new idea/skill/system and ruin the balance to the worse. Solution?
Testing. Playing the game. Working with players and caring about their views. Many ranger players want to be archers. What do they have? Druid with healing ability. Many guardian players want to be tank/healer. What do they have? Dragon Hunter with traps.
See a problem here?
3 years and rangers still have that glue eating internet explorer brained pet system. No more explanations needed.
Anet does not listen. They hear only. Pet mechanic should be voluntarily not forceful. I dislike using pets. That should be my choice.
When I first choose ranger in this game, my aim was to play the ultimate distance archery class. Many ranger players are fan of the bows and arrows (most of them even practice archery in real life like me). Now the archer archetype is neither very effective on ranger, nor stayed with her. Apart from DH being a better (magical) archer, rangers are pushed towards being a caster.
There are a lot of players love this change. And many ranger players tend to play due to its closeness to nature. But archer lovers like myself are terribly frustrated. Idiotic pets and useless pet mechanics are already ruining our imagined archetype. There is no option for us to be alone, without pet mechanics. And now slowly the ranged power shifts from us to other professions. Many weapon in game got more range. There are better archers, and our developers focus is on druid, not core ranger.
Long story short, ones like me who love archer stereotype feel more than frustrated with latest changes.
If there was a way to do that (with compensation for the lost dmg of course) ranger would be a lot more popular I guess. It is amazingly silly for developers to not to do this eons ago.
Every build can be killed easily by a good player, or an anti-build. If you die, you either screwed something or your opponent’s skills are better than yours. There are few exceptions that can counter dd cele easily. Rest is about skill levels and game experience I guess. ( I die to mesmers too by the way. I am not perfectly skilled.)
Well that is the problem with the new changes. Mesmer and ele were some of the skillful professions earlier. Now they are called “facerolls” and that is not fair. I can not play my mesmer because it is boring. I can not play my main, ele, because dd is a real faceroll, and staff, my favourite weapon, is so underpowered that even I feel lucky when I encounter a staff ele.
Only profession I enjoy is engineer, but it is hard to master, hard to learn. At least I got that for me, which is nice.
Seems good. You can grap str runes with pyr. puissance to stack some mights and burst aoe if you want a change.
And blinding. Fire is way better. Do not worry, that build is very easy. Once you grasp the combos, it is the easiest build in the game.
ps: Do not forget playing staff. I do not want to be the only one who plays staff
Come on, dd ele is not hard, it is easy. Just like any mesmer build in this meta. And thieves… Frankly playing an engineer, or a good necro is way harder than playing a thief. Yes timing etc etc. All are important. But there are other things that other professions have.
Engineer is the hardest class. You can succesfully apply your combo and skills, but they might not in the end. TK bug is annoying. And whatever you do, you will always be mediocre at everything.
By the way, condi ranger is easier than pew pew ranger. But again there are freaks in every profession/build that can make you " HOLY kitten! HOW THE HELL DID HE DO THAT!" with their timing and moves.
Play scepter ele, or better, staff ele. Staff ele is neither forgiving nor easy if your enemy is not a total moron. One mistake, one late or early cast and pooof! You are dead.
Engineer is also very hard but more fun than any other profession for me.
Dp or dd thief, lb ranger and mesmer are faceroll. Especially postpatch mes and dd ele.
Sadly, yes. Just memorize the combos and you are ok.
Oh kitten . I was wondering why I sucked at tk combo. I love my engi no matter what. As long as I keep that bloody mortar, I will play engi
Celestial set, hoelbrak or strength runes usually. Fire water arcane traits. Blinding ashes, cantrip, evasive arcana combo. Use your fields, stack might and deal dmg at the ssame time, survive a nuclear blast, spam cantrips (especially cleansing fire for burm stacks) claim that it requires top talent in the game. Easy.
Just joking. You wouldnt survive a nuke. No offense guys. But it is nuke.
D/D is more powerful than staff, it is sure. But if you play staff masterfully, it is better than an average d/d player. In the end it all comes to your own skill, adaptation, and wits. So if you play better with staff, you actually do something good to your team with not playing d/d.
And meta means “nothing”. It all comes to your ability to play your own build. There are several good players who are not playing meta. And what you call meta is a build that have been found by a player, who uses that build very well, with his own skills. Difference is that, one becomes public, one not.
