First, thank you all guys. I will gear up and try guard in wvw. I always played aggressive medi dps guard before HoT, and it was good. But with HoT, tankiness, mobility and conditions became stupidly high, and that was my problem. But I will adapt I guess.

In my personal experience, ventari is not doing enough condi cleanse. But comms either want Jalis or Mallyx, depending on the squad composition. There are some situations that you would be asked to use glint also. Best way is to ask your comm.
Well thanks! I have spotted the problem I guess. My stats are a little bit too tanky to deal damage, and my burst is not strong enough. You are literally playing like a s/f FA ele I shall try it. My only question is movement speed. Isn’t it a torment to run without %25?

But lootbags are something else entirely. If you do not deal damage/tag, you cannot win a lootbag. There are squad options though, that is why I suggested joining a wvw guild and utilizing your potential to the limit.
To address the loot bags point. As long as you heal people that deal damage to enemies, you will also gain a loot bag.
Yes as it seems so. Last night I zerged as a healer rev and the lootbags were not that bad. Not good either but that depends on the situation I guess. Druid or ele would be way better in a moving scenerio maybe. And some (not most but some) commanders really welcome a proper healer in their zergs as I experienced.
But as a fellow player I would advice you to not to play ventari rev in wvw more than 3 hours. It burned my already miniscule brain

I am asking for help for dragonhunter wvw builds, especially for roaming. I usually play s/f FA ele, or power rev, and never had any troubles in roaming. DH was the first elite I acquired, due to my love to Guard. “If the guardian gets a bow, It will be complete” I always said. But the reality was different I guess.
I suck ad DH roaming. Yes I can fight 1v1 and win sometimes but I cannot function properly. I used to play medi dps guard before HoT, and everything was ok. But with HoT meta and DH, I could not adapt properly.
When I meet a DH I usually can kill him/her without too much trouble
( depends on the skill level ). And when someone meets me I become a ground paste, without much trouble. Sad part is I love the class.
Any advices, build tips, and decent insights?
Sadly underwater combat is not that unimportant if you are in wvw. If I am not on my rev , and if I see an enemy rev, I usually bait him to fight under water, as I know he is weaker there. A good rev can manage himself/herself under water, but usually people cannot change their rhytm so easily.
And another sad news; there have been so many bugs, fix &adjustment needs for rev for so long. I have no hope to see a good fix until the next xpac.
Static Field change was not a nerf, it is a buff acutally. I can understand how you do not feel like it but making it smaller results in more stuns, not less. Big radius was only letting players to hang out inside calmly. Now it either stuns or people commence into a frenzy to get out.
Ice spike buff is godly btw. But still staff ele will never be powerful as it was. There are better options (except for siege mushing).

Some more dps to start with and maybe something unique so it does not push another class out of the circle? Would be awesome to finally be able to play my rev in pve I mean it is kinda pathetic that their (expansion class) is just instantly kicked from most content outside of wvw.
Definitely rev needs something unique. Every buff or action of rev tries to occupy another professions space. Problem is other professions are doing it so much better. There should be something unique for Rev that other professions would appreciate and need.

Oh my god what a useless discussion this is. You are saying that commander is kicking two roamer professions from their TEAM? They have every right to do so. I play thief too, if I wanna join a tag, I switch to my other toon, which is geared for team play. If you are dedicated to play thief or ranger under a tag, just join a wvw guild and show that you can really play it. Then they will use your abilities too.
I mean guys come on. There are millions of options, and it is not even up to you. Comm can choose his/her team, just like the team can choose a comm. It was always like this. Why are you even still discussing this?
It is simple. If you want high mobility, high single target dmg and less support, play a roamer profession. If you wanna zerg, play somethin accordingly. This had never been a problem before. I love playing thief and ranger but I know when to play a roamer. Commanders have every right to do so. I never join a squad (really hate zerging) but it is their tag. They have the right to choose. Don’t like it? Well follow someone you like or join a wvw guild. An experienced wvw guild uses every profession well. Some of the guilds I met conatantly uses thieves and rangers to spike down enemy casters.
You can find a solution to this. But you cannot simply expect your profession to be accepted, while others build and gear up specifically for that role.

So you want to gain equal amount of advantage with someone who played the game mode for long hours unlike you? Friend, are you a total turtlepower? Wvw players gained enjoyment and fun through these hours? Well kitten me! Ok then let me have the same legendaries, gold, AP, map completion and jumping puzzle rewards as a pve player.
It is silly? Why? Why should I be discriminated for not playing the game mode for all these years? Why should you get better achievement chests for having more AP?
Most pve players wish to get the bloody backpack and leave immediately. You are not interested in the game mode, but only in the reward. As most pve players inform me very gently; If you want ascended set, you should farm. (As if you want the backpack, you should play).
You should learn the game mode, builds, roaming and zerg tactics, what food and upgrades you should have, which point obstructs your opponent, which puts you in a disadvantage.
On the other hand If I had a word in this, I would give every player the bloody backpack and let wvw be wvw again. I do not know about other servers but mine became a horrid wvw spamfest against way bigger mother blobs.

Really now? Resistance is the only defense against condi spam meta and believe me condi spam meta is boring as hell. It is cheesy and tanky at the same time. There are not enough condi cleanses in the game to prevent condition damage properly.
Someone said not every class has boon corrupt. But not every class has resistance either. Only revenant and some mesmer builds can give it properly(mes is bad though). So either corrupt or use null field for resistance problems.

Sylvari has a theme in my opinion. They are close to nature and they should instinctively protect it. The things an engineer does is for progress and invention. Their main aim is to invent, to build and to fix. But not everything they do goes well with nature. Their destructive power feels a little harmful to nature in my opinion. Bombs, mortars, constant oil throwing etc. These are all good inventions but they harm the environment.
Maybe because of their look, I always felt like sylvaris are close to nature not if a part of it. So they should protect and nourish rather than unintentionally hurt nature. (Although game does not show any harm being done to nature. These ideas are hypothetical and just personal opinion)
But again there are exceptions in every generality, and players want to play that exception rightfully.
In gw2 lore they explained it well, and it made sense to me when I read it. But still I am an old fashioned guy it seems. A charr engi makes sense to me but a sylvari does not

Well like I said, science stuff is not for “ME”, especially if mixed with old school sword and magic. But there are also things that I do not like in GW2 lore. But that is me.
I would want a good engi over any other profession when roaming . You can do everything with preparation and timing. You are right, there are professions that can do everything better, but they cannot do all of them by themselves.
Reveal, reflects, heals (proper blast and some healing power, inventions trait line) , cc, point defense, ranged aoe, several fields and blasts, pull, invul, push etc. Engi has so many options when she has the time to adjust.
Engi is not in the best spot right now, it is true. But the question was “why do you play engi” and these are my reasons. I can provide a unique support to my team. I can do many things if I can time it right. I cannot win every fight but it is fun. And fun is my goal here.
ps: do not get me wrong, engi still needs a bug fix and a skill rework. But that is the general problem in this game. No bug fixes and no proper balance patches.
For some mysterious reason, Anet does not fix bugs in some professions. I have no hope for a good rework but QoL changes would be ok too.
The ability to provide solution to every problem. With some knowledge and adjustments you can fill any role, provide anything except portals. Engi is the wizard of GW2. But once you taste this freedom of choice, all these other professions feel “meh”.
Science-ish theme is not for me though. I think it is weird to have an old school knight or a magic user, and a dude armed with a grenade kit and a flame thrower together.
Engineer kits and style is totaly awesome. Especially scrapper-hammer is way more powerful than most professions. Weapon swap is redundant with all these kits. Engineer is a jack of all trades, a dude that can do anything. You know, if your party needs something except from a portal, you can do it. Given time, you can do anything, like a wizard in DnD games.
What engi needs in my noob opinion is a good bug fix, and a balance adjustment (some skill reworks too) but all professions need those. And a friggin accurate gap closer for wvw.
I like rev more in WvW. Like Rising Dusk said, in zergs it is way better than most professions. You do not get poked by retaliation, you can tag enemies better, you are indispensible due to the resistance and boons to, to any pug party/squad, and on top of those, you have a cool dragon icon And if you really want to spice things up you can go ventari/mallyx and have a good fun with the tablet.
But if you want to roam, I would advise you to find another profession. Zerging is one thing, but roaming with rev becomes a huge pain in the tushy with todays meta.

I love this idiotic profession. So I want it to be on par with others. It is one of the weakest nowadays.
It is not a great rune in my opinion. But because of it we are going to see some insanely tanky builds.
Apart from all these arguments, dear OP, as a semi noob rev I can confirm that solo pve is way better than my other solo experiences. With Jalis and Glint you can lay back and just auto attack everything to tag. It is fun, really. And if you find yourself a friend or two, they would be glad to have you in their team. You can duo temple of balthazar in auric basin (it was hell for me but we did it, and I really suck at pve. Not joking, my biggest accomplishment was defeating lvl 1 molten brothers with solo elementalist)
So if you like it, learn it and play it. But remember that revenant, no matter how good in pve, is an unfinished profession. It has bugs, problems and it will make you furious from time to time. Dragon symbol is helluva cool though
I think getting condi cleanse and a good balance for main mechanics would be awesome. But there are no legends among anet to accomplish this task.
I love when boon duration increases, and boon spam becomes popular. I hate playing it, but my friends have a great time while corrupting boons.
But it was a little unnecessary to add more boon duration. At least necros should have their corrupt boon back (as it was, corrupting all boons on a target).

Friend, hammer is really useful. You can do extraordinary things with hammer 3, lifesteal machine gun with hammer 4 + shiro heal. Auto attack deals massive damage. If they add cripple to hammer 2, 2 revs will be really troublesome. But I am no rev expert, and my play time is not that much. So maybe what I think is not the best option All in all I think revenant is not a real profession but a beta test that anet forgot to fix.
What ranger needs next is the shapeshifter spec that would help her to fill multiple roles when needed. The game already has shapeshift skills (norn racials). Making them kit-like (limiting them) would be a perfect opportunity. Instead of having a pet, ranger now can shapeshift into an animal.
What you ask is to be the ultimate ranged profession, but it is not revs job. Hammer is ok except the camera bug. Hammer 2 is more powerful than any other ranged attack in my opinion. Other skills are ok ish. Problem is legends themselves.
Beside from zerg fights, I experienced that best(and only, in some builds) condi cleanse for rev is not to get hit in the first place. I dislike heavy armor classes in games, but rev is like a mage who can fill every role with legend swap (at least It was my first impression when they announced the class).
Melee-Range dilemma you stressed is ever present. I constantly need to swap weapons when out of combat. Sometimes I wish anet let revs to assign weapons to legends to use on swap. Then I staff 5 to everyone and calm down
Personally they need faster reactions. Their response time is way slow for this game’s combat system. Their lack of evasio and defensw also makes them a dangerous burden for condi bounce or bounce attacks. They also need to stay stowed until ranger summons them. That would at least save them from unnecessary burst and let the ranger have an upper hand at the right moment. That is my opinion.
Their stats might change according to rangers armor stats but that is an entirely different topic like petless ranger or shapeshifter elite spec.

Signet of the hunt active = your attacks become unblockable for a short period of time. Gg wp reflect spam. This should have been done way before.
Also, pets still suck. Not as they had before, but they still suck.

Still dh an issue? Even mortar engi can draw them out from a point. I honestly find dh balanced and not that much important. Certain druid builds are way easier to play than a dh. On point traps might be a problem. But most lower tier dh would trap spam while you pop up an invul or something.
Or you can kite them. They are bloody slow
Thank you all for your answers I have been playing for 3 years and for wvw tried every profession. Mainly I play ele but thief and mes are also ok for me.
Trade offs are there but no other class completely feels this limited in my opinion. So I thought there must be something to do. Sadly I have never experienced any good revs (post patch) to talk about it. I always easily kill them (I do not play condi). So either the profession is in a really bad spot, or I have encountered the worst possible revs. So there must be something that makes the profession playable.
And yes three legend swap is needed indeed
