Hi there;
I have been trying to learn the profession. I tried last year but got bored easily because of bugs. The concept is perfect for me, to be able to change role with legend swap, ability to fill every role (was a drood in wow early wow). But as you can imagine I was disappointed when I tried the profession.
Now I am trying again to learn again. I will not write a wall of text so let me summarize;
I have a gear and build problem. But before that shiro + glint = death from condi
glint + mallyx= cannot catch a running dude
no glint = Hello slowness my old friend
Any help for build and especially tricks for rev?
ps: Last question, do any of you experience fps drop when playing rev?
Pet should be a help, but it is a huge weakness in this game. A target that cannot dodge makes you think about bouncing attacks, epidemics, condi bombs, etc.
It was ele before all these changes. Now I do not have favourite zerg class. I try to be useful by playing whatever our zerg lacks.
Play mesmer for a month, then play another profession (thief and warrior excluded) and see that although mesmer needs more buttons to push, It has a great escape mechanism, and a beautiful burst option.
In wvw Jalis is ok, I have tried Jalis/Mallyx combo and it is ok if paired with food and correct stats. But in pvp I do not think it will work that well. CC combo and condi pressure is too strong in my opinion. But I skipped this season so maybe others would be more helpful.
Last night it was good with AG fights (RoF here). At least RoF was busy in other borderlands so EB was not the main goal. We pugs fought some nice battles and lost some good ones. But still, it is sad to see AG in this situation. It was my favourite team up server (no disrespect to GH, we were already frenemies for a long time )
People in AG were (when we teamed up) kind, supportive, and jolly. True, their wvw tactics and play were not that good, but neither ours. So we lost together while having fun. Server merging should be permanent, and should be made “carefully”. What we have now is idiotic. One day it is your best pal, next day your sworn enemy.
They fight for fights, and dont care about the matchup that much, true. But part of that is fighting for the OH SO prized Loot Bag.
You see, the Loot Bag is the key to a WvWers heart. It not only symbolizes the physical dominance you have jsut exterted on a single, group, or zerg of enemies, but also rewards you with that sweet sweet chance of getting a precursor 1 in 20385729375930294857929 times.
That, mr Fluffy, is why we DO care about loot. [/quote]
You, sir, know your players very well. You are extremely right on this, expecially about lootbags and precursor chance. (Also you may add the odd-unique builds, and tactics)
I simply logged in to appreciate your spot on target comment. Have a great day.
One word: Retaliation.
Yep a feedback and some explanation would be quite nice. Especially when the waiting time for a patch takes sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long.
Well… Godkitten it! It looks really wonderful! This is beyond micromanaging by the way I will give it a try as soon as possible.
But if I wanted to play a tanky class, I would have played warrior or guardian, wouldn’t I? Tanking aspect is not that bad but still the lack of dmg and mobility compared to other professions made meta ele only viable in large groups, and mostly as a tank.
Still elementalists/tempests are really durable, you are right.
Thank you for your kind answer. That is the problem I am fighting on. Unlike other professions, ranger/druid cannot be tanky & kill efficiently at the same time. I guess my game play with ele screwed my bunker/dps perceptions.
Elementalist is highly weak in dealing damage nowadays. I play with my ele all the time in wvw and I still have fun with it. But apart from shooting meteor showers in specific places that others cannot reach, we have been replaced in every aspect. Even people tend to tank or heal the damage from the siege instead of using staff ele’s.
Btw OP, you are right. Necro or Rev is way more profitable than ele in zerg situation.
I am sorry, but what? Is there still a revenant profession? As far as I know there are still many bugs that effects game play (or bugs the hell out of you) still not enough condi clears or energy/cd balance.
And on top of that If your computer is mediocre or subpar for gaming, you cannot play with Glint properly, it just becomes clutchy ( we have tried with different mediocre laptops, it feels like 64 bit- 32 bit client problem if you know the topic) which no other class suffers from.
I have deleted my rev three months ago. I loved the profession concept, idea of energy/cd and legends. I even used my lvl 80 boost for it. But what is it good for if you cannot play it properly.
Hello there,
I have been playing ranger for three years. Until this meta everything was fine and clear, cool and dandy. But now I cannot decide on my gear. I usually roam but it is constantly me vs 1+ . Sometimes I hang out with zergs. I use marauder/zerker mix armor. But what about trinkets and rune set?
Any insights apart from durability runes and commander pieces?
Let me try these tactics, thanks. I usually play thief so I still cannot coop with warrior.
Happened to my opponent last night. I was on my Warrior, and that Necro was running away. I used shield 4 (or hammer, I do not recall that exact part clearly) and Necro flew into the air. I was a little bit surprised. He fell down (not dead), we stared each other for a second and continued our chase.
Forget about catching a thief or a mesmer. Especially thief can reset whever she wants. Druids with quick draw staff/gs can be painful also. But I mean warrior hits like a truck, so some professions should escape.
On the other hand everyone told me that playing warrior was easy. On the contrary, it is harder than playing a thief (it feels like it ). Of course I am accustomed to thief but it is so easy to dodge/shadowstep/steal etc. all those sweet mobility options. How do you guys deal with high mobility professions anyway?
Not with this gankerfest meta. Otherwise it would be wonderful.
Btw stop arguing about “undying bla bla, skillful bla bla” on professions. We all know that game grounded its skillcap months ago. No profession needs more than average skill to perfom well.
Ele is sadly dead. Even the scepter focus version is way behind other professions. But it is normal, as you see there are ups and downs for every profession in some time frame. I guess next big patch will solve many problems.
Dmg nerf was the hardest part, for me at least. I never liked to play that much “bunker” style. My advice for other ele’s is to choose a new profession, and wait for the balance. You cannot have a proper dedicated profession in gw2.
People say it is working but I do not think so. I have been playing scepter fresh air build since I started ele (2 years) but nowadays it feels not enough. Do not get me wrong, you can have amazing victories against some professions, but with the condi and bunker presence, It is not what it used to be. Still it is quite formidable.
There are better builds but my favourite is air-water arcane(or tempest sometimes), fresh air-cantrip build with full cantrip utilities. You can try earth instead of water (or fire if you are very confident).
I have limited access to internet so I cannot post a build at the moment.
Have a nice day.
Yep, apart from all profession and balance problems, this one annoyed me the most. I was not happy with “obstructed” curse, true. But when I saw the dear RaO changed to this thingy, I was furious. It was like taking the candy, hitting the baby, and spitting on its face when it is on the ground.
Avatar should be something like necro shroud from the beginning. Skills and numbers should have been adjusted according to this. And I still think it should be converted to a shroud-like mechanic with proper traits. Anet said they were going to change the nature of the druid profession in one of their patch notes, so that would be a reasonable change in my opinion.
Anet’s nerf-buff ratio is op. Instead of truly balancing, they just nerf or buff without thinking. And due to the patch frequency being far from ok, it takes too much time for them to see-fix the issue.
All the complaining about professions in this topic might be true. But there are so few options for people to play that people are forced to play those builds. There are some exceptions, true, but most of the time you lack other options if you want to play a certain class.
To the coldest and deepest part of space, where Ogrdu Jahad, the chaos gods live and plan the destruction of the earth itself.
Heheh. Epidemicbombing pet. More than cruel
Standart dp deadly arts trickery daredevil combo. Tasteless, graceless button mash. You can try adjusting a little but it will still be the same. Welcome back and I am sorry for you.
About thief teleports @anduriell, don’t encourage those please. imo blinking should be a mage thing only. Frankly am tired of thieves teleporting around me constantly with the ability to (nearly) one-hit-kill you. I mean, sure, keep their one-hit kills, they’re assassins after all and should be lethal, but no shadowstepping as they like to call teleportation.
I just want something closer to reason and I know it’s too much to ask. It would mean guards would have their traps removed, because a knight class with traps and teleports is just silly and none of that fits the role (atm. even ppl with no skill can enter any fight because all it requires is to get your invul timers right);
mages with blinking like thieves, now that’s more like it and far more fitting for their role given the fragile nature (light armour, so to compensate physical weakness with great evasiveness to make wizards a force to be reckoned with) since they have the will power to change matter and shift themselves through time and space;
make engis more viable;
remove all the cancer builds, make condis viable but not overpowered;
stop mixing classes (guard is the best example) and make each unique so all of them are perfectly suited to fill roles and all equally needed.
This whole game is a freakin’ mess, there’s just no words to describe it any more. Everything’s been said for so many times we’re just repeating the same things over and over and nobody seems to listen and nobody seems to care.
It’s effin’ exhausting.
What you are saying is not stupid. However it is very hard to do. That would require a totally new game with new mechanics. What we have is the reason of this world I guess. It does not make sense, not always, but we are stucked with it.
Oh ele. Such a boring profession nowadays. I think there should be a balance patch immediately but anet thinks it is better to wait for three months and lose more players.
What about berserkers? I tend to find them most troubling for my power shatter chrono nowadays.
One does not simply die to abuse builds. But it is too often for a mediocre tier player like me to combat with 3 of those. Then it becomes boring as hell. Smashing buttons and facerolling. Sometimes even I think if playing cheesy builds would be better or not, but I cannot force myself to do it. You can, however, brutally counter many of those builds (except berserkers. I cannot counter them. They scare me with all those yelling and swinging a giant sword).
But OP is right. Skill floor was never lower than this. Not even in celestial meta.
I used to love playing ele, but now skill level is so low that you can just memorize what buttons to push and play with your eyes closed. I agree that ele sustain needs a nerf but it also needs a bloody viable damage build that can be viable in spvp. S/F fresh air was hard but good before HoT.
By the way OP, if you think ele needs a nerf, play consecutively 10 matches with it. You will come here and complain the lack of a dps build.
There should be an option to turn these off. Especially floaters are becoming a huge nuisance. Did WvW team left altogether? Pvp team is doing fine, and a dev is answering questions. In WvW section our only hope to get an answer is if santa brings us.
Epidemic is necessary in my opinion. I do not play necro, I do not like necro, I do not care if the bloody class becomes a paper-weight. But what it brings is important. Otherwise retaliation infused zergs would determine the outcome of the fight with sheer numbers every time. Wvw needs healers, tanks, supports. In lower tiers where I play all these are not considered that important. So with epidemic our zerg learned to respect and hire healers last week. Maybe next week they would learn to work with some support builds.
Only thing rev needs is a good bug fix and balance fix for ventari. But bug fix should have the first priority.
Gs & Sword + Shield, soldier-ish set, zerker trinkets and zerker weapons. This would help you while roaming against certain professions. It would be both easier to play and will help you to understand profession mechanics. I used to play full zerker but this stat combo really helps me to relax and invent new skill combos. Some will say that you would not have any damage or you should play zerker to learn, but I say relax and play how and what you like.
Hi all,
I have an important question. Is it possible for a necro to use signet of spite + epidemic combo on a ranger pet and bounce them to the owner? How can we deal with it except pet swap?
Yep sadly I read it. I had already an unhealthy amount of premature fear of change, but it is good to see that all was not in vain. Now revs will really feel like Zoidberg.
People think playing revenant is easy. But in fact druid/dh/tempest all are easier for me to play than a rev. And I cannot see what a rev can bring to a raid while there are so many other options. I really like the concept, but there are several problems that should be fixed before rev being a valid profession.
Oh come on. I don’t even like mesmers but this is pathetic.
What changes? Was there an announcement or is this just a premature fear of change?
I am still waiting for a ventari buff. I really love playing ventari even in this situation, combined with glint or jalis (depending on the team/situation). Rev is cool and fun, but limited in many ways. If you can accept the fact that sometimes there is nothing you can do against certain events, it would be very entertaining.
What I will say probably is not what you want to hear, but you should try all three of them and let your ability to play make the decision. With one of them you will play better, easier, and faster than others. And when you switch, you would instantly feel misplaced, or clunky. At least it was like this with me. No matter how good I play with some professions, there is always one that makes me feel “at home”.
Can I ask a question? Sorry for asking in your topic op but I did not want to open a new thread and my question is similar with the build you saw.
I usually run air earth tempest while roaming d/f and it feels good. When in zergs I switch to warhorn and water instead of air. Lately I have been trying tempest arcane combo but I cannot choose which element to go with. I have durability runes, marauder set and celestial trinkets (I just love them. Occasionally switch to zerker). I have tried earth, it feels good but others are also not bad. Any opinions?
After monday patch wvw lags more with me too. I think they fudged something.
I am sorry but your argument is wrong in my opinion. So because anet skipped giving any options till now, we should stop asking? Like the pet names that cannot stay for 3 years and just fixed few months ago? It might be late but players can demand it. We are customers, and we have every right to ask for it. They might not accept it, true, but asking should never be forbidden, or given up.
I can give you options to balance the petless ranger easily with minor changes. If I can do it, a team of devs can do it without breaking a sweat.
Another point is the “design”. I would only ask you to look at elite specs for this part. All professions can do things they were not meant to do. So again it is easily possible for anet to adjust few traits (not even that necessary) and give another f skill ( leaving it empty to choose another utility skill would be enough for many of us).
I understand that you think it is late in game, but with enough demand, a company would supply. We demanded pet names change, it is done. As long as it is not irrational, we should ask for it.
ps: Personaly I gave up playing ranger long time ago. I thought " well this game’s ranger is bound to her pet, so if I dislike it, I should switch to another profession". Although it was a bumpy road for me to find another profession that my heart settles (I always play archer/ranger in frp, rpg, mmo’s…etc) it is done. So we should keep demanding but we should not get our hopes up. I do not think that anet is able to do such a change when there are millions of dire fixes.
They may be useful but people have the right to dislike them no matter how useful they are. And in my opinion anet should have given the petless option from the very beginning of this game.
I think they should not give guardian %25 speed, but reduce other professions speeds. Not every profession should move fast, hit hard, tank well.
Druid is meh. It is not bad but I would prefer something different. Ranger needed a support option, so druid came. It is not that bad, but it is boring. Not because of the druid only but also because of the current meta. I hope they make a shapeshifter elite for the next expansion. They have the basic understanding for shapeshifting with norn racials(which suck beyond imagination).
But druid is “meh”. Really.
