If you deny diminishing returns as a farmer..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Diminishing returns kicks in way too quickly. Within 20 mins of being in any one area the loot you get is severely reduced. I notice that my first 5 too 10 loots in a area I get some slightly above average drops but after that its junk, more junk and even more Junk.

I think it’s designed this way because most world boss fights take a good 10-30 mins to finish and get to the loot. By the time Diminishing returns has already kicked in.

What I have noticed about Guild War’s 2 is ALL the Gold coming into the game comes from the Gem store.

You can avoid spending any silver or gold on anything but fast travel, level 7 characters up to 80 sell all your loot to venders and still lose money. You can do the dailys, do all world bosses and sell all the junk loot you get and you don’t even break even from the quick travel costs.

The ONLY way to make money in this game without buying it from the gem store is to sell stuff on the Black Market Trader. The problem is that Gold comes from other players who are in exactly the same position as you. The only way they are making money is from other players or the gem store but NO ONE is making money from selling items to NPC venders.

I am willing to bet that 95% of Guild War’s 2 in game Gold was originally bought with Gem’s.

Not really, most gold comes from dungeon runs as they give out a guaranteed 1.5 gold reward. you don’t even have to invest into anything to get it except ~3/4silver for the waypoint.

This is where the gold comes from. you’re quite deluded if you really think the majority of gold comes from gems.

It mostly comes from dungeon / daily gold rewards and people who flip TP.

This is the only MMORPG I have played were I can’t make enough money vendering items to cover travel costs and walk away at the end of the night with profit from selling Junk items. The fast travel costs completely out strip any income you make in normal game play while trying to avoid Diminishing Returns and doing the daily events.

Try making the hundreds of Gold you need by vendering Junk items at level 80 to go craft Ascended items. You just can’t do it even if you salvage everything for mats and hit every node while doing your dailys.

They do this to encourage you to use the TP, that way the gold earned from dungeons is actually broken down a bit due to the 15% fee you give away.

Everyone would be insanely rich if you’d make profit selling to vendors + the already guaranteed gold rewards you have in this game.

The other issue is you can level up a few level 80’s and salvage EVERYTHING yet still fall FAR short of even leveling up one crafting disciplined. I have the store bought mining/woodcutting/harvesting tools and I hit every node I see on the map while leveling to 80 yet I still need to buy hundreds of materials after hitting 80 on more then one character just to level one crafting discipline up.

Because the whole point of crafting is for it to take resources and it taken a while to achieve. You’re not supposed to hit 80 and max out your crafting instantly (even tho thats easy to do nowadays)

Again, they want you to spend gold from the guaranteed drops so nobody ends up with 5k gold in less then half a year

Let me put it this way:

Gem value has increased since launch, when it dropped, it never dropped below the previous lowest value.

This means 2 things: gems are always profitable & people have so much gold left they just decide to waste it on gems for whatever it is they want.

This leads the my summary: making gold in this game is one of the easiests thing to do. even if you only play 1 hour a day.

DR keeps the game in balance. everyone’d have a full legendary collection by now if they didn’t add it

suck it up and be proud they give you guaranteed resources for gold and don’t let you simply rely on RNG like all the other mmo’s out there

no no no no no no no no no no no

1. you have the option to craft it
2. you have the option to drop it
3. you have the option to ignore it and use exotic

The total gain from exotic vs ascended (full set) is only 5%

I could find 4 people and we’d all use green set and we’d still finish pve content faster then most in exotic. because the pve mechanics neglect pretty much everything from gear and is purely based on party stacking.

It doenst matter what gear you use to do it, doing it will be so much more efficient then crafting ascended and just spamming skills running arround dodging aoe fields without knowing what you’re actually doing.

I merely made ascended because it gave me something to do. i’m pretty sure the majority of players did this for the same reason.

Ascended has never been a requirement but its a nice way for endgame players to keep busy and actually get some benefits for doing so.

Ask yourself this; Who would actually craft ascended if you’d remove the stat bonusses they give out now?

Exacly, no one. because you could eventually drop them. and even in fractals you can max out your agony with just 2 infused rings and adding 15/20 agony infusion.

Then we’d have to consider the HUGE influence this would give to crafting materials, their uses AND their values. Silk scrap would drop in price almost instantly, as well as linen. these are both in high demands due to ascended crafting.

Engi med kits - distracting sound

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: alwinp.2791

alwinp.2791

Let me start with this video

Pay close attention to the sounds at about 0:10 in the video

It took me a kitten long time to figure out this sound i kept hearing was actually that of an engineer spamming med kits

For almost months (you can blame me for never playing engi) I mistakenly assumed this sound was that of a party request. you know, because it sounds exacly the same

But please, could any of you devs out there change the sound. be it the engi kit one, or the party reqeust one?

But right now, i hear this sound, i get distracted looking at my party window only to realise no one is inviting me or wants to join. I turned out to be an engineer spamming the kits again.

No idea who else has issues with this, but it annoys the crap out of me everytime again.

Why couldn’t they simply add a different sound for party invitations?

Thoughts?

Anet please stop "Stacking"!!!

alwinp.2791

Why do you want to break my efficient way of making gold in this game?

What exacly bothers you about OTHER players finishing content in half the time you do because they decide to stack?

You are given the option to invite people into your party,
you are given the option to look for a group and even write your own description
you are also given the option to kick players / leave a party when things turn out to be going differently from the way you want it to go.

It would have taken you less time then writing thing post to lfg a group and add no stacking to the description, and it would still fill up.

Does the current way of clearing this content stop you from finshing this content in another way? no

so tell me, what is the problem really?

Thats just screaming “find another game”
Exacly what i’m going to do if that plays out.

And it won’t. If you took a few minutes to read the blog you would know that wasn’t the case. This whole thread is people being lazy and paranoid and blowing things out of proportion.

yeah really everyone on this threat is kittened, i cant believe this is something to complain about jesus christ you people should just quit and play another game, please leave like holy crap, it’s a free game what more do you want? greedy pieces of kittens

1. It’s not a free game, you have to buy it FIRST in order to play
2. Greedy? i’m not greedy, i just wanna keep the things I already have
3. because making old players redo old content is really going to make the game come back to life, right?

Valid arguements are given here.
And note that my posts was also written in a bit of sarcastic manner.

I don’t really expect Anet to degrade our characters. But if that happens, the results are written in this thread over & over by now.

Keep in mind some of us are here since launch, we have asked for a lot of things that never happend. There’s a point where players become mature & civil enough to realise they are just being screwed over and they leave

Also

The process of leveling to 80 will award about 400 Hero Points, so players will only need to complete a fraction of the available hero challenges to have enough points to unlock everything. The system is designed to give players access to skills and traits much faster than in the current system

So thats why everyone has piles of scrolls stocked up in their bank, right?

If you pay attention to the spiders you’ll see that some of them are lvl 1 2 or 3.

The 1 & 3 are no threat, but there’s one level 2 that is, because that one is the spider that triggers the big spider spawn. Specifically, the level 2 spider on the right upper side (when facing towards the tunnel with chains)

take this advice because even a lot of so called 80 experienced zerkers don’t know this.

I can’t stress this out enough, to many people just engage the small adds without a clue
and it really helps to know WHEN you trigger a boss so you can actually prepare for it

To many times i’m there stacking might only to have some scrub take the spider down causing the big one to spawn. I still have to cast icebow, but some other crub already used a status skill wasting my deep freeze (ice bow 5 skill) and then the problems start.

Sure, with a full 80 zerk party its dead before it can cause serious problems. but i still tend to die because of this in pugs.

If you manage the adds first, control the spider boss spawn and finish off the other adds you have a full room of dodging available to you without the pesky little ones poisoning you to death.

1. Clear the fire statues (ranged preferred) that lay down the small fire blasts

2. kill adds (but beware of the lvl 2 spider roaming arround in the spot i mentioned)

3. more adds will spawn -> kill them aswell

4. spawn spider -> deepfreeze it with icebow or interupt with a skill available

5. DPS

You are ALMOST right. It’s not just one spider, you have to kill all the low level spiders to spawn the Queen.

oh, right

Well i useally finish off the other low levels ones except that one so i consider that one the triggering spider :p

It just helps knowing that these little ones can be controlled without creating a mess in the room.

I even told people the way to convert them and they avoid it because they consider “mf some stuff” to be a complicated effort.

They should raise the gold reward for fractals from 1g to like 3g

You spend less time in AC doing all 3 paths for 3g then doing a fractal (let alone a lvl 50) just for 1.

Granted, the ascended drop / skin / tonic chance is there, but its still a chance.

It would balance out the distribution between efficient dungeon farming / efficient fractal farming. And it wouldn’t become an overkill reward (if we’d assume the 1 to 6 gold reward suggestion) if you’d run all tiers for daily’s.

Did you ever considered crafting isntead?

You see, it takes gold yes, but its a 1/1 chance ON GETTING THE STATS YOU WANT

Whats the big deal, seriously? I get that it sucks you get PVT everytime a chest drops, to bad, I had about 6 worthless chests aswell.

it made me realise one thing; kitten it, i’ll just craft it myself and be done with it.

You have the option to craft it ASWELL.

With all the farming you guys claim to have done you could have crafted maybe 2 or 3 full sets.

But no, you guys want ascended with right stats handed to you for hitting a boss with 1 fireball.

If you can farm all that stuff over & over i’m sure you can withstand the daily crafting limit and start refining the mats you need.

Ascended Drops

What they need to do is increase the drop rate, im told its 0.00001 % or some really low % like that. I have Done Teq for over 3 months everyday ( no teq hoard, no ascended) And I have opened over 5000 Bandit Chests and Bags and you know what I have a big fat 0 haha, seriously stupid bad RNG for a item that does not cost them to make more players happy.

Honestly do not even do Teq/SW for anything anymore other than the gold I get from doing them, because Luck is the basis of this game and not actually earning items. I want more ways to get items I can Earn, and feel good knowing I spent 3 months doing SW stuff and got something I earned, not because oh look at that I got lucky!

so you’re doing teqault each day, you farm silver wastes each day and you still come and cry here about the ascended drop rates?

i’m pretty sure i farmed much less then you did and i still managed to craft a full light armor set (read: light armor is about 30% more in value compared to medium/heavy)

you don’t need luck to reach anything in this game. you can earn gold in so many ways

If you rather spend it on skins then thats your call, but don’t blame this on luck.

The only thing that requires luck in this game is obtaining a precursor. and even that you can farm in a decent ammount of time if you know what you’re doing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well, one thing would be the ability to convert these charges to gold.

After all, they are a gem store item and one charge is worth rougly 4 gold (125 gems = ~20 gold = 5 charges)

Or allow us to buy things with it like skillpoints.

Those who want to reskin can keep the charges and still feel rewarded because you actually save gold if you earn them through pvp. But those who don’t will have some benefit out of them aswell.

In the end, you can convert gold to gems to buy these charges so i don’t see a problem why this could not be possible the other way arround.

least thing they could do is ALLOW US TO SALVAGE THEM.

Seriously, i don’t need a ton of mats from salvaging one. but recovering perhaps a bolt of damaks/ deldrimor ingot or leather square would still give it SOME VALUE.

Hell, i’d be glad even with a lesser vision crystal or even just some scraps.

then again, i crafted a full set because hoping to find a full set with the correct stats would take quite a long time this way. I feel it encourages people to actually craft some pieces.

The droprates imo also look faced towards stats that aren’t included in most meta builds. I hardly see people obtain zerk stats for example.

Games come and go. The best ones have fans that play it for a very long time…

Outside of having a guild to keep players involved, GW2 really doesn’t have the content to keep players playing for a long period of time. Heck, outside of guild missions and WvW there’s really not that much guild content. Ironic as always for a game with guild in its title.

this

I explored the world in a matter of weeks, that was when i was still roaming arround as a new casual gamer. If you know how to do things in this game its quite suprising how fast you discovered every bit of content in this game.

After that its pretty much just lvling toons, farming ascended gear or collecting towards legendary. And all of these things is just a boring grind where you repeat content X over & over.

[…]

GW2 has many flaws, but when players go to other games, that’s when they’ll see all the small things that were not flaws but greatly improved the experience.

This is gw2, what happens in other games is not of any relevance. But it does add to the impression of the player. GW2 is an mmo, and wether you want it or not, its going to be compared to other mmo’s. and by doing so they can add/change things that will have positive / negative impressions based on the other mmo’s and this one.

Gw2 said they wouldn’t make it a grind, they more or less sticked with that statement, but they still added grind (ascended / legendary)

They also promised horizontal progression, and that seems to be lacking. except if you consider the gem store as a resource for horizonal progression which I don’t.

They try and move when activating skills… and they can’t or get skills canceled…

I know enough games that had moving skills without canceling, this really isen’t a new thing

Try to travel to places… and there’s no waypoints and they have to walk all the way there…

Most of these games have transports, and they do help. Regardless, i still know games that had a waypoint system.

Try to help some newbie… and they get dissed for “stealing kills”…

This depends on the distribution of loot, wich seems to cause a problem here, but also fixes them.

We aren’t struggling with kill stealing, but instead with reward stealing. Look at the discussion about the pavillion on the living world sub forum. Players autoattacking a few times then proceed to go idle because their handfull of attacks count for participation in reward. This greatly discourages cooperation, wich ironically enough, is actually promoted with the events anet likes to release these days.

This is like expecting ying & yang to suddently melt into a united yiang. Its two opposites that have to be togheter. Why would a player be cooperative if they can shell in a nearly identical reward (bronze instead of gold) for a whole lot less effort?
Try to get some cheap gear, and they take ages just to get a single piece…
And on, and on…

After the feature patch, it just went downhill for me..
The mechanincs, the content, everything…

I’m beginning to get kittened off to death by this game

Every kitten patch they release has these rediculous events that require cooperaten throughout an ENTIRE ZONE. Didn’t anet learn a lesson at marionette? didn’t they learn a lesson at knights?

Now they add this 6 minute kind of bullkitten for a gold reward that either requires the player to:

- be lucky and enter the right pavilion
- be lucky and have an orginized group/guild to do it with
- taxi to death in hopes for someone to carry you in, lets not talk about the fees they request in return.

Its becomming like the gazillion other mmo’s on the market

Grind your way, only to battle a contest of waiting games to finish the rest.

Everything I have left to do, WANT to do, is based on a time table or fortunate gathering (read above)

I’m getting sick to death of this idea of mmo gaming. you are making us waste time when the last thing I wanna do is log into a game and do nothing because I can’t.

I have recently bought bf4, I have tried minecraft. both those games are occupying my time. Probably alot more games in the future that will get my attention above this same old waiting piece of kitten you call a different mmo.

Those who don’t invested, don’t bother. Unless you have alot of spare gold to invest in tings like this it’s better to stay away from it.

Let this be clear:

- Players who crafted one set probably done so before the release. People who only have one set crafted AFTER the patch will realize that a 2nd set just isn’t worth it.

- Players who have already crafted several sets probably exploited marketing tactics to get gold or they managed to stock up on tons of mats pre patch.

- Players who have no set will be disappointed when they figure out the ludicrous requirement that is bolt of damask. Did you know its required for EVERY ASCENDED ARMOR PIECE in game?

- Light armor players are kittened on their face and finally it gets wiped with a towel full of kitten. Thats’ how it feels when you figure out how much you will be spending on a full set compared to medium or heavy

50 bolt- 3 scraps per bolt = fixed. Silk scrap does drop at a decent rate, but still not enough to justify the 100 bolt requirement.

Know your game Anet, because I fail to see the logic here.

Turning Karma to Gold in Mystic Forge

These are great. 252 karma per glove. I made like 7/8G investing 40/45k karma on these gloves just now (8x linen scrap / 3x cotton scrap). So, considering the the current value of cotton/linen/silk this allows for a verry nice compensation investing your current karma.

As i still need 3 pieces of ascended light armor this method will surely save me a great ammount of gold. Thanks alot for this thread!

And what point would that serve?

I have huntsman level at 50 on my main wich has artificing & weaponsmith maxed at 500. I guess it would be “clean” to have the 50 huntsman deleted, I already maxed it on an alt char anyway. Other then that, nothing changes.

Anet has other things to worry about then such option.

Crafting Materials

the only thing that needs balancing are clothing scraps. Linen scraps are hard to obtain at lvl 80. We need silk scraps twice as much compared to leather/ingots.

Leatherworking is the cheapest of all anyway, probably because there’s such a big supply on the mats. Armor is becomming balanced aswell. Just that you require a good ammount of iron ore to get things done.

Tailoring tho, the costs for silk scrap & linen scrap already exceed the price for a full deldrimor ingot or elonian square. Then we have to invest in cotton scrap to get the last piece of the puzzle. Its the reason bolts are so expensive.

I tried farming some flame legion events, they are a good source but still not compared to gold/h ratio in dungeons/fractals/zerg trains

Silk scrap drops at a decent rate, but they overpressed it by 100 bolts instead of 50 like the other. Completely lame and makes no sense to me at all.

Linen scrap will adjust by itself anyway. now that grinding is abit longer on lower levels the supply might increase a little. Still tho, i’d like to see some more linen scrap in my 80 bags.

If they don’t plan on changing craft requirements, then increase the scraps we gain from frayed garments. 1-3 is silly, 3-5 should balance it more.

Dragonite ore - dungeons/fractals

Dear players, Anet

I play on different occasions, its pretty random. There was times i could get a nice amount because i was able to run with some groups to clear temples. Now that megaserver is added these temples seem to be free nearly 24/7. I barely catch on a chance to capture one leaving me with the other sources that are world bosses/PvP/WvW.

I know most bosses are a walk in the park, but they reward you with only a handfull of dragonite ore. Those that grant bigger rewards take serious coordination, still lacking on the server I play. And i’d probably miss out on it anyway due to the new timings.

I don’t PVP / WvW that much, i really don’t like it. When I do it, its just to get daily’s or monthly’s finished. Considering that the rewards on dragonite ore will not be that big anyway.

I mainly play this game for dungeons & fractals. yet both of these things don’t reward me with any dragonite ore. everything else in this game seems to do so.

despite so, the ratio between dragonite ore & empyreal/bloodstone is seriously off.

All while I have piles of empyreal & bloodstone dust stacking up, all while i have 50 stars and stones already crafted. I could have had 100+ stones & 100+ stars crafted if i converted all my stacks into them. Yet I only managed to craft 16 dragonite ingots throughout my entire playtime.

Is this some kind of item that is linked to the Lore of this game? If dragonite ore was really dragonite ore, wouldn’t only dragons be a resource to give them?

Why can’t you add a low amount of dragonite ore into the bags that reward bloodstone/empyreal? even at a lower rate it would nerf the current imbalance.

I know ascended is known to take some time. But i play this game for a good 1.5 years now and I only managed to craft 3 armor parts (requiring lesser vision crystal) & 2 weapons. I can easely buy/craft the remaining mats for my ascended set. but there’s really no point as i’ll be spending probably a 2/3 month get the remaining dragonite ore to get my vision crystals.

Please consider this, Anet.

Because they know the related PVE quests are a pain in the kitten . so you get the option to buy it with skillpoints/gold or gemstore.

With gold farming being nerfed that much more they are actually just after your wallet.

the thing is no one ever complained about the trait level requirements.

When i was playing my first character, i barely knew what i was doing event related. i just ran around and explore. This system forces players to sacrifice gold/SP’s, which they will both very much need or participate in events they don’t know a thing about / are not prepared for.

A new player will take this system for granted, but will also judge the game based on this system. which right now, is really new player unfriendly.

Game Updates: Traits

Wait people aren’t buying the traits because they cost gold?

But we’ve been hearing for almost 2 years now how there’s no struggle to make gold in this game. What happened?

New players dont have gold and they definitly won’t have skillpoints.

This is a huge slap in the face to new players and might even roll them off to other games. It kittenes me off wondering how anet couldn’t think this through.

I don’t know if you can unlock the adept/master traits through events, but I figure they will probably be some group events that no one ever attended to. they better make sure megaserver lives up to said performance because when i was 3x/4x, i sure as hell couldn’t find any guy to do a group event with..

Correct:

- Unused skins can still be applied to any piece of equipment without asking for a charge.
- Used skins will need a charge if you want to have the appearance converted to another item (just like before)
- Used skin that is in your inventory won’t require a charge if you simple equip it

Size of Today's Patch

This is a good suggestion. This should be a primary thing in updates anyway.
I always wondered how big the filed are i’m downloading.

I don’t think its hard for devs to check the file content right before the patch happens and add it as info at the patch notes or announcement.

Some people have limited download, and if they suprisingly exceed it because of an update like this it can become a frustrating matter.

This way we know how much we are downloading and we can prepare for situations like this.

This should be done with every patch btw, even if its just a few kb’s of lines that got editted
