Nice guide !
Looking forward to typing ’I’m running FA’ (when FA is used in the non-polite way)
I think whatever is your preference at the end of the day. You will be the one looking at it for hours and hours.! I have only ever played Human in GW2, but my last four characters I have created have been Asura as I love seeing them when I’m playing so I thought I’d have a go. I’m not fond of the Charr, and I made one Sylvari and deleted as it looked hideous, but it really is a personal thing. I do like the idea of contradicting races though, for example a Engineering Sylvari, Ranger Asura. You can always create and delete, just make sure you don’t delete any worthwhile items!
Oh and I really do think an extra slot really wouldn’t be a bad thing to have included.
Kill – I understand your issues fully. I bought the Ultimate as I had the money there, I was having a kittening bad day, and I thought it was buy this or probably go out and blow the money on RL wine and have a stinking hangover. I am happy with my gems which I buy a lot, I am happy with my mini, and extra bits. When the game is out I’ll be even happier.
I totally understand issues others have and it IS unfair for many, but I came late to GW2 and missed the LS1 and LA demise, but that’s my fault for not switching to GW2 sooner, but I’ve managed, and I still love the game.
I remember back in GW when new players came into the game six, seven and eight years after the game was released. I don’t think I witnessed ‘veterans’ behaving in such a manner when sweets, alcohol, and other goodies were made a lot easier to get in an effort to help newer players achieve their titles. Indeed, I remember the days there were no tiles and when chests required no key…. ah the good old days. I know, different issue, different context. Just saying entitlement is a dangerous state of mind.
Agreed many are unhappy with the price. Many would like an additional slot for a new character. Many would like to have purchased the expansion as it is, an expansion, not the base. Maybe if there could be a rational non- ranting, non -flaming post on the issue it would be taken seriously rather than the ‘kitten you, kitten the game, I’m never playing again’ stuff that has been flying around.
As for duration or quality, who says you have to pick?
I want it all lol
You mean back in the days when Anet gave us free character slots when we bought their new games? Instead of making us pay $10 extra for it?
That indeed would be those days.
If you found out the expansion didn’t just contain “Verdant Brink” as not the only PvE map being released with the expansion, what would your reaction be???
I’m feeling like a Skritt reading this… my head hurts! But thanks Dai and Grey for the figures.
Thanks for the welcome
I’m a very old GW player and just about hitting six months on GW2.
Thank you for this answer!
Thank you
I only created it to be honest to stop all of the guild invites I was getting. I prefer to play alone and was getting frustrated at all the invites popping up! Maybe all of us small guilds can band together?
Blackworm I’m not saying it is an insult, I just copied and pasted.
I was going to say I play with myself and then realised that sounded wrong, so I’ll rephrase. I have a guild of one. Me… So I’m going to be kittened!
entitled
?n?t??t(?)ld/
adjective
believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
“kids who feel so entitled and think the world will revolve around them”
That is from Google.
Welcome to the game Brian. I truly hope you stick with the game as it really is wonderful.

Thanks for the response Inculpatus. I’ll give it some time to learn the IP addresses as suggested.
I activated the email confirmation this morning, but it really is a pain in the kitten having to keep authorising every time I log in. Can I turn the feature off?
I’m a Brit playing in Australia lol!

1. He’s a she actually.
2. I’m not on the payroll.
3. I’m not telling anyone they are wrong. You don’t like this expansion, it doesn’t bother me one iota. However, don’t tell me what I can and can’t spend my money on.
4. Ask yourself why it bothers you why some people are not complaining.
Happy? For how long? Don’t come back complaining if you are supposed to be happy after their expansion don’t live up to the hype.
And maybe don’t come back with your tail between your legs when you do buy it. Sound like a plan?
I’m not saying people shouldn’t complain, and I am certainly not a fanboy, nor was I being aggressive.
If you feel the game is over hyped and over priced of course you have every right to complain. I started this thread for those that have pre-ordered, and of course those that haven’t have as much right to jump in and have their say.
But making a sweeping generalisation about the players that have bought the game is incredibly naive and insulting.
I’m devastated that you couldn’t get an armor to show off your nipples.
Got the ultimate edition. No regrets.
Yet. As you have purchased something without actually knowing the full content, which may disappoint you so much you quit playing it after a week or a month.
It’s good to see 10+ players jumping in and throwing money at Anet, compared to the many many posts saying ‘no thanks’, will be interesting to see how it all works out.
“many many posts saying ‘no thanks’” Most of the time people only post when they are unhappy with something. Seeing a couple hundred posts clearly shows that only a minority of the playerbase is unhappy compared to probably the thousands of players who have already purchased the expansion and stayed quiet about while continuing to play the game.
That’s not actually true. A lot may agree but simply don’t care to post because they’ve been conditioned not to complain and be positive, like that people in this thread.
Such people are why the world is in such a pitiful state. You gotta fight the good fight tooth and nail, but nobody except the minority will do it.
So moving on from your wildly inaccurate assumptions that us people that have purchased this game have been ’ not conditioned to complain and be positive’
Erm, really?
Oh, and while you are at it, you’d like to blame us for the pitiful state of the world?
I’m shaking my head at how incredibly naive you sound. I thought the plight of the real world was wars, famine and terrorism, disease. Maybe you should take some of your admirable ‘fighting spirit’ and use it to make the world a better place.
All this over the price of a computer game that no-one is forcing you to buy? Don’t like it, don’t buy it. It really is that simple.
Wait…? So bull kitten isn’t a new mini?! gutted
I’ve spent money in the past on games that I have not been satisfied with, either story, game play or just personal dislike. Having played GW for such a long time although newish to GW2, I feel I am able to deem for myself if I am liking what I see or don’t see, and what I am or am not prepared to spend money on.
If it makes you feel better I clicked too! I am sure we are not the only ones that are over eager lol! I
Yep… items right away
No it was one key Zephyra.
Oh god I just used mine and it vanished… I bloody hope it has gone to it’s gliding bay or wherever you park them!
Bought. Happy.
I went with the $100 edition. In my lifetime I have played many subscription based MMOs in addition to paying for their expansions, I didn’t even think anything of it. I know for a fact that I would have eventually spent $50 on gems so it is more than worth it to me.
Also, the forums here represent a very small minority of the player base… People that are upset with something are more likely to be vocal about it than people that are satisfied
Yep, I’d easily have spent that much on gems and not thought about it. And in my years of playing PC games I have bought some utter duds in my time, so I figured that a game I love deserves my money.
Donari, kind of in the same boat here. RL issues made me think kitten it… And I’ve got a new mini and gems to buy. But I agree I’m also thinking what if there is a nice physical copy to purchase… Oh well, we can buy that too
Hope your RL issues get sorted.
Well that didn’t last long! There are plenty of other topics on the go for negative comments.
Just as an aside to all of the negative threads. I’m happy with my purchase. I got the $99 Ultimate pack. Loving my mini… and gems that I won’t buy an item and delete!
Anyone else happy?
What a fantastic idea, Elijah!! I can’t wait to join in the fun with my “Anna” character from “Frozen!” To see some of the characters already joining the parade, or to get some ideas for your own cosplay character, take a look at this link:
Fantastic looking ‘The Beast’. Bloody brilliant!
This would be a fitting tribute to someone who was obviously well loved and respected.
So sorry for your loss.
All resolved now. I had a nice e-mail explaining their reasons, which was all I wanted really. So a big thank you to the GM’s for listening to my questions and explaining their reasoning.
And I got a nice reminder about using care when deleting characters! Trust me, lessons have been learnt!
Maybe it’s a build in glider, you know ready for HoT?
But yes, maybe not the best look for a male Charr hehe
Heimskarl – I feel your pain! Fellow Australian (well residing in Australia) and playing over Wifi. I have to admit I haven’t had too many issues with lag. I tend to turn off all other Wifi appliances when it gets too bad! Of course, when Telstra has a hissy fit I just turn off everything!
I think I’ll definitely be doing that. I wrote an email asking on what criteria I am not allowed a refund of gems as I have read several threads on the GW2 forums where gems have been refunded.
But I got a "Unfortunately, we cannot provide you with such information, each case is handled individually and we strongly recommend you to get in contact with us the next time you experience a similar issue.
We truly appreciate your comprehension towards this matter."
So basically the next time I delete something I get in touch and we can have the same discussion and not get a refund?
If there is certain criteria that has to be met, I would like to see how my the merits of my claim have been judged. I can understand if there is a blanket policy of ‘no’, but there seems to be discrepancies on how refunds are handled.
I have looked at the Dev responses from Gaile, and there has been cases of gems restored, so I will definitely pursue this. It seems a little unfair to refund some but not others. I’ve spent close to $2000 on in game items and gems and bits and pieces, so I’m not overly impressed right now!
Thanks Inculpatus, I might give it a go. I can’t be exact when I deleted it, somewhere between Feb and April… I know I bought a lot of BL keys and goodies as I was new to the game…. But hey, lesson learnt the hard way!
You would think there would be a way to do it. It might be a thought if they make the items harder to remove, like having to actually type in the name of the item to delete, like the HoM portal stones etc.
I probably should have done it at the time (contact support) Ah, well what’s 3000 gems!
Hello *******
Purchases from the Gem Store are seldom refundable, and in this case we are not able to provide a refund of your purchase. We encourage you to exercise care when conducting all your gem transactions and character deletions.
I am sorry that we could not fulfill you request in this situation, but please let us know if you have any other questions we can address.
Regards,
GM Khal
Well I contacted support but no luck
I’ve learnt my lesson I guess lol…but it was worth a shot. Thanks CS for the fast response.
I suppose it explains usage of the crafting materials. No wonder we use so many bolts of silk or insert other crafting item here! Have you seen the overlaying of material in some of the clothes?? So many kittening layers! And while I am sure layering was all the rage back then in Tyria, how about some simple skirts, or legging….none of this tents with legs please!
