Is non condi build viable on ranger?

I was talking to a guildy who mains as a guardian and mentions that condi is viable healer druid is viable, but not sure about non condi build.Something to do with the recent changes which is why i’m asking.

I have a lot of fun with using longbow and using greatsword and was wondering if i went full melee version if i’d be able to be viable, or is condi the only deal of dps?

Power flies in PvE very well on a Druid. Same for a Ranger.

WvW? Group Dependent For Survivability

PvP? Group Dependent Period

Dungeons? Power works.

Fractals? Power works.

Pet swap is still bugged somehow

1. After pet swapping, the pet will be invisible for like 0.5 sec.
2. After pet swapping, there is still a small lag on f2 sometimes (tested on tiger, even under quickness).
3. After pet swapping, if you instant cast f2 once, the pet is still UNRESPONSIVE sometimes, which means you need to SPAM f2 (tested on bristleback, tiger, and smokescale).

This is quite annoying while you are doing a combo like longbow #2 – pet swap to bristleback (and proc zephyr’s speed quickness) – f2 spike barrage. You think the pet is casting, but its not… gg ranger

Concur. Pet AI and GUI is really messed up at present.

I don’t want to sound rude or anything (I also lack medical knowledge about this thing), but isn’t best way of overcoming motion sickness… getting used to the movements of everything you see or experience? Get a bucket and train yourself bro.

People who dismiss medical conditions need serious help from a mentor who can teach you to have some compassion after you have researched the conditions that we have no control over.

PvP and WvW have been disabled in this demo mode – so what are you talking about?

Any decent Ranger can give a hundred reasons from longer cooldowns than most to taking Precision as a ‘tool’ for us, the latter of which horridly game changing.

Demo Feedback:

If Anet thought that solo players would find others to play with ‘just because of bounties’, think again.

Many are in very private guilds who don’t add others to their numbers to go after bounties.

Where does this leave solo players? Where does this leave anyone who plays in the middle of the night when few are around?

Major Concern- Mounts and "motion sickness"

I’ve never experienced “motion sickness” while playing a game, but I’m feeling a bit “off” when I use mounts. I would like to strongly suggest 3 things…

1. We need a much much farther draw distance.

2. We need the camera to be fixed in place on our characters when mounting and dismounting.

Edit- 3. As others have mentioned… I also think precise, not delayed or overdrawn, movements will help.

UPDATE- I’m still having a negative experience even with lowering the Motion Blur (as recommended). It’s really uncomfortable for me and I’ve never been sensitive to these types of things.

We need an ‘non-bouncing’ option for those of us with inner ear problems. We didn’t choose our ears, but they rule how motion affects us

ALSO Sliding to a stop may be ‘cute’ but it really knocks the heck of out one’s equilibrium!

Ranger Pets are UNRESPONSIVE after Update!!!

The mos recent update has made a number ( if not all) of the ranger’s pets unresponsive to commands. They take at least a good 2-5 seconds before they use their skills and even attack.

This is quite game-breaking for us rangers (esp those of us who pvp), hopefully you guys can fix it ASAP!!

I have had the same problem for months, even before the last ‘updates’.

Pet either is completely static or it jerks around but doesn’t attack – and it’s not every time or every fight – intermittent as heck – never know when it’s going to happen, that’ the worst.

Why were pet stats nerfed?

Traits that previously increased pet condition damage, toughness, and healing power were all changed to remove those increases. I don’t understand why…

My build is already broken. I can’t imagine how bad it’s going to be when the Ex-Pac is released but hints are it’s not going to be ‘better’ for druids and rangers.

I believe the only change i like is the Signet of Renewal. Everything else seems irrelevant (that is if you like to play WvW/PvP).

Most annoyingly:
Been playing Main ranger since GW1. Now this is the first time i felt like i don’t play Ranger, but a Domestic pet owner with a bow.

You’ve got to be kidding me on the response time of pets now. Three pet mechanics that completely got destroyed by this patch.

Petswap = 3-4 seconds delay before the pet actually does anything. Which immediately nullifies any of the on-pet-swap bonuses. Rendering the pet completely useless.

F1 Skill = it takes another second delay for the pet to move

Ancestral Grace = SUPER DUPER BAD, how would it be that a pet magically dissapears and reappears from using the druid’s staff ability. Also: you can’t cast any of your pets special abilities while using Ancestral Grace. Furthermore -> it even interupts your pet’s autonomous special attacks which really screws up the game for rangers right now.

ArenaNet, you have dissapointed me deeply. I hope and expect to see this changed back ASAP.

Ancestral Grace deleting our pet and making all skills unavailable is unacceptable.

Druid Staff is hard enough to trait to get anything out of, what a horrid thing to do.

i read the notes (as im in eu and i can’t play yet) and they seem mostly a massive nerf to the ranger survivavility:

  • nerf bark skin
  • nerf SoR
  • Instinctive Reaction
  • Natural Healing
  • Companion’s Might
  • Predator’s Instinct
  • empathic bond

with various buffs i see them really meh except the one for SoH.

Is that all?
do we have just WS trait and survival utility to cleanse conditions?

No spirits? not traps?

Breaking more builds than ever before.

The ‘new’ changes are hurting us, and I believe those who made all the changes know it.

I can’t believe the new ‘elite’ compared to others…

Guess we’d better hope for better pets.

BUG: Unresponsive Pets & Skill No. 3 [merged]

So I was testing out a new build when I realized that the pet was completely unresponsive for several seconds after pet swapping. I then left the match I was in and tried to see if it would respond by taking off the new zephyr’s speed trait thinking maybe the super speed bugged the pets AI. No change. Pet is still unresponsive for 3-5 seconds.

I attempted it on other maps as well and no change. PLEASE test and see if you are having this is as well. If this is a thing we need to get it reported asap.

I’ve been saying the same thing for months but never get any traction in forums.

They stand there and do little, maybe jerking forward, sometimes not, but not always and intermittent without a pattern I can even discern.

Where are the new WvW content?

What you take as players hating WvW I see as players that love to play WvW, but see that it could be so much better. They’ve played it even though they face enemies with larger forces and have wanted a fix to population balance for years. They’ve played WvW knowing that there’s only a few builds on a select few classes, no medium armor allowed, and have wanted skill balance for years. They’ve gone through the HoT expansion and have seen the old vanilla classes/builds disappear. They’ve had to PvE grind in order to both unlock the new elite specs and the guild upgrades they already had. They’ve seen a map introduced that wasn’t as much fun to play on as the original two but have only seen small fixes that haven’t corrected the issues why most players avoid it. They’ve also gone through several years of small fixes because most of the resources are working on PvE content, even though WvW is supposed to be a “core” part of GW2.

WvW is still the best part of GW2 but it can be so much better, it SHOULD be better. I used to raid at least 5 times a week with my guild. I barely get on anymore. I’m starting not to miss it. I might buy the xpac, might not. I don’t have the motivation to spend all my time in PvE unlocking 9 elite specs or grinding for the newest OP armor stats just to go on a outnumbered WvW map.

This is how it is on most WvW maps, from Tier 1 to Tier 4. Overwhelmed or overwhelming but not anywhere near in balanced fighting numbers on any side.

Sorry to repeat, but I still have over 200 players on my contact list who don’t play any longer – and they haven’t logged in, many of them, for over a year.

I don’t delete my contacts, people I played with for years, all because I keep hoping but they not returning tells me what I quoted above are many of the main issues.

Part of WvW was being able to get to know people – but ever changing populations, little in symbiotic comms between links, being told one is ‘only on a link’ (that was new to me since I was on a host server forever and a day) and not being able to gain pips for 30 min or more and then watching a dozen stand at spawn for hours – yes, it is getting hard to find those to get into groups at all in the most pretty much mandatory cooperative mode the game offer for success.

I am not a naysayer – I’ve given a lot of good ideas over the years – as have many – WvW is the best gaming mode and can be better by going backwards to a more fun and more productive environment

McKenna Berdrow, in your last AMA on reddit, you or Mike O’Brien said WvW and sPvP is player driven mode and it belongs to the players, and you will make the changes you want.
When did we say we want gliding in WvW??
We never wanted airships bombarding SM, that was an idea of PvE player, yet you added it.
This is why the game mode is dying.

I used to spend 10-12 hours a DAY in WvW – now:

WvW is a very side thing I do since it costs quite a lot, stats which I depended upon (Precision) has been nerfed into the ground ,

has few who play at the same time I do and/or don’t even get into groups so ppk goes nuts, and out many go again, saying they are fed up with the links, the lack of similar languages – my ‘English only please’ setting in the game GUI has never worked, Korean leaves pages and pages of blank screen ,

not knowing where anyone is or what is going on anywhere in any map 50% of the time many days (nights) in WvW.

Spanish? I can’t learn it, sorry but that’s still another 20-25%, how can I play? My genetics disallows me to learn any language (or math or music notation) and the game even has a setting for ‘English only’ but the game is leaving me with few who speak English at all.

Players who played the first two years, looking forward and planning for tournaments knew when the links happened that tournaments weren’t coming back and mercernaires were hired for many servers, telling players ’it’s our time’ and ‘you can’t play now’, no, I am not kidding, happened to me not six weeks ago.

WvW is in dire shape.

Flying? We had the shrines which pitch us across, so why not make that more controllable or more creatively attained? How about buffing the camps from ground zero to tier 3? With links solo roamers have almost no chance on any map in any tier at any time. Give us a chance against four or five with a camp – if you’re going to overwhelm the single player

So many good things could happen with WvW, I am still hoping some of them will come back. So are many.

Tournaments gave WvW legitimacy and some specialness to a game mode that is mostly repetitive, go, do, report, fight, take, go around in a circle, not get support from many, rinse, repeat.

What made WvW magical is gone. But we’re still hoping. That’s the magic of gaming – until the last page is turned, one can still hope.

Tldr: There are features that are allowed and there are features that are forbidden. Personal dps and even group dps in pve is allowed.

Berdrow, we’re bleeding out here. There are several serious problems with WvW. We don’t all agree on the solutions, but we all agree that solutions are critical. When you mentioned WvW updates, we were hoping you were working on something that…mattered.

Gliding might be ok with the new territory system. Territories seem like a nice tool to work with to maybe solve some other issues. However, gliding and territories don’t do anything to treat the wounds. It’s like getting a lollipop from a surgeon.

Is this really it? Is this where the development time has been going instead of the innumerable pressing issues that we don’t even have a smidgen of direction on?

Are we just going to get distractions rather than solutions?

I went with ‘botting,’ though that doesn’t seem quite right. I have screenshots and account names but there’s no way to submit those in a report.

The person in question hangs out near east Citadel exit on DBL. There’s a pocket far enough back that the legendary defenders won’t aggro you. They run their alt out, kill them, then afk.

I agree, there should be a choice in the reporting system beyond what is in there now.

Reporting a player who is doing exactly what you’re saying it just about impossible and i don’t see Anet doing anything to those players since they are coming back week after week until links are changed.

If wud be great if the commander tag could be bigger, u can barely see where it the tag if you dont target him.
We usually target the commander because the target “tag” is bigger than the commander tag.

Sorry for the bad english.

Ember Bay has the right idea – you could easily get what we mean by looking at the injured skritt there.

It’s far too easy to ‘lose’ a tag in all the effects.

I think spreading WvW’s anemic Dev allocation further is a horrible idea, especially with so many excellent third party VoIP choices.

But again, just before a DLC release, sorry expansion, they will release some QoL improvements to make it seem they are again going to work on WvW, to get us to buy the DLC, I mean expansion.

Gaile, this is incredibly wrong. We worked hard – hundreds of gold pieces to make those ascended armors and now you’re going to take ALL of our hard work and gold away?

Redundant? What about power? What about condi? Those are on gear and food?

What about ferocity? What about precision? Those are on weapons and gear too.

I dont play this game, for me it is dead. ( i play only WvW, and when the # Heart of Thorns killed the WvW )

Transfers, Links, and Population Data

1. World sizes are based on WvW play hours and players. People who do not play WvW, or are guests, do not factor into the population size of a server. If a world is locked, it is because it has a larger population than our “Full” threshold.

2. Yes and no. We look at timezone participation but timezone participation is hard to balance because people who play at certain times tend to all gravitate towards the same worlds so they can play with a lot of people. There are not enough off-hour worlds that we could link to create 24-hour coverage for every world. It just is not possible with our current world populations.

3. Yes, high population servers are usually the benchmark for when we link worlds. For example, if Blackgate has 10 players and it’s the highest populated server, then we try to link worlds so their populations are also around 10. We can’t be totally precise so sometimes worlds might end up with 12 or 9 but we try to get as close as possible.

We are having major issues in WvW mostly because the linking system makes it impossible for most servers to have enough players to cover what three linked servers or even two can field during many times of the day or night. can.

There is no ‘balance’ in the linking system, which I posit as a cause, not a symptom of WvW health and population roller-coaster ups and downs.

Secondly, where I used to be able to understand most people on my server, now I can understand few on many servers – Korean for one – doesn’t even come up on the screen – leaving blank pages and pages of chat text space where information about the enemy or properties should be. Spanish for another. I can’t speak either and I can’t communicate with others who can’t speak English at all. So how is that a ‘game’ and not a ‘we are working at cross purposes’ which we are much of the time, hurting the server and all players who are striving for points to win any skirmish or week?

How can anyone believe that if we don’t have a common language or approximately the same populations, that any ‘fight’ is viable or winnable? They aren’t.

The moves which might be lucrative for Anet coffers aren’t healthy for WvW which was supposed to be a cooperative environment with people who can and do get to know one another – it isn’t happening any longer.

And because of so many glitches and imbalances in blobs coupled with lack of a common language, many of us are spending fewer hours in WvW, both of which have yet to be addressed.

Issues with Grawl Firestone, Suet [merged]

I managed to get the suets and the grawl firestones by doing this:

- Went to Story Jornal: Living World Season 3 > A crack in the Ice > Restart this episode
- Replayed the story chapters from the begaining of “Precious Aurene” (in Auric Bassin) to the end of “Elixir Cookin”

I got the suet drops from Icebrood wolves and Corrupted spiders.
The NPC starts to sell the Firestones after completeing the heart, making the offering to the grawl “godess” and talking to “Veteran Hooga Dizdiz” next to it.

Hope this helps everyone.

The important thing to remember is that you shouldn’t have to do what you just did to get the stone and the suets. The thing is still bugged, period.

And I have no intention or replaying the story for everyone of my alts as well.
It will become a dead map for me if it isn’t addressed on Tues.

This is still broken for many.

The NPC that you make the shrine for doesn’t respond most of the time.

The recipe doesn’t work half the time even if you do get one of your characters to get the NPC NOT to glitch out.

Either fix this or stop making us jump through hoops to get the the far end of the map in Bitterfrost.

We are looking into it.

While you are ‘looking’ at WvW times, please note that the NPCs from camps in EBG will respawn over and over and over and disappear at the most inconvenient time even when running with them or fighting with them.

WvW times are wrong – for example, six seconds in WvW isn’t six seconds by any clock I’ve ever seen.

Archer’s are always my favorite class in every mmo.. but in this game I feel so hurt with the ranger u dont even understand..

The archer in this game does not exist actually…now the ranger is a paladin and cleric mixed.. WHICH is very boring and takes the role of the ranger.

Why ranger specialization should be a " Healer"? why??!! wtf is this… It has to do something with the history? because it’s ridiculous!!!

Maybe don’t follow the meta blindly, have the courage to go out there and actually learn to play ranger . It’s a devastating class in the right hands and build diversity is extraordinary ( most pets sucks though)

1) You cannot expect to pewpew 24/7, the ranger is a devastating class because can swap from melee to range without losing pressure and the swapping it’s not random

2) You actually need to know how to counter other professions

I run the same exact build in PvP and own left and right every 1vs1, I cover a different role respect to staff druid which is a pure healer but I still can hold my own against anybody and with the potential of killing every single meta out there

I think Linking has helped the situation but we can take it one step further…

Remove all server links from T1 and T2 servers (6 servers no longer have links)
Add in a fifth tier (This will help to alleviate the bandwagoning individuals and queues)
Everyone from T3 on down would have 1 matched server.

I’d go with that. Two servers to any host server doesn’t make for a ‘balanced’ game or the ability for all to play many days.

Problem is, Anet is linking two servers to a host server and the imbalances are more than noticeable.

Prime time is impossible for many even on ‘lower’ servers when they can play – from getting home from work to going to sleep for the next workday – any server that has these kinds of queues when most people play isn’t working well at all.

Been watching this thread with interest as a supporter of server linkings(even while they admittedly have some negative effects and are not a long term solution for WvW), and I have to wonder who actually is against server linkings? Because I talk to a lot of guild leaders, and a lot of server leader and admin types, and I don’t hear them complaining.

If there really is a majority of players against server linkings where are those community leaders, those guild leaders who oppose linkings? It is what, three or four very active posters here who claim to speak for a majority, but I have yet to see even one major server community figure speak out against linkings.

You are on a host server, not a linked server.

When a server isn’t linked it drops like a stone – when it is linked it rises artificially.

After 3.5 years on YB, I have seen this as a fact over and over as YB and others gained and lost links – and lost or won on the quality and quantity of players on those servers.

And please remember the community aspect – you can’t get to know anyone well in ‘two months’ and what we need in WvW is consistency – which we have none of and haven’t had since the beginning of the links, which again, are still listed as a ‘beta test’.

So again, host servers don’t really have a dog in this fight, but linked servers do. Links are very treated differently and most commanders, like you, don’t have the time nor the inclination to get to know most of them.

And your comment about ‘major server community’? that’s an incredibly short-sighted comment in that most people in the game don’t read and don’t participate in GW2 forums at all.

If many on linked servers knew that there was a question or the fact that this is still beta test that can be undone, I know most linked servers and their players would be here – but since so many don’t even speak English or don’t understand how important the forums are, that is never going to happen.

Since I spend 4-12 hours in WvW on any given day, I will continue to speak out for those who spend most of their time in WvW.

Hey sorry for the delay. Outnumbered is applied at the start of the tick. This means you’ll only gain or lose it at the start of the tick. So if you are on a map is Outnumbered at the start of the tick you’ll get Outnumbered pips for that tick provided you don’t change maps.

As fast and as much as “Outnumbered” appears and disappears from most maps on most servers, far fewer people will be able to even get the ‘gain’ from the buff.

Rally is supposed to work. Rally didn’t work.

When will Anet figure out that the game is suffering from ‘drift’ and now is doing things it is not intended to do – a blatant example that is connected are the NPCs that disappear in the middle of a camp fight or disappear on the way there when escorting them to any camp on EBG. They respawn over and over and over – even if you kill them.

Drift is harming the game – and it needs attention because it’s impacting scores.

Played for a while tonight. Our border had been pretty much wiped, so started by setting a ram up for others to use (3 of us there) while I killed 3 catas enemy had left and a couple archers on the wall (NPC). Capped tower. Tier 1.

Capped sentry.

Moved to EB as it had been reset. Capped keep, 3 towers, two camps, met 3 enemies that we killed over the next 30 minutes or so, so 39 minutes after I had logged in got to tier 5. Took a long time to reach tier 3 and start earning- probably 20 minutes.

One decent zerg fight will put you to tier 6….

Then ran out of objectives to take. Enemy camps t3 and defended, no enemies flipping our sentries or camps, not enough players on map to try and round them up and push for another tower. Take a look at Deserted BL, nothing within distance to cap. Same with home BL which has only com on and is now queued. Other enemy BL has 3-4 man thief gank squads roaming next to all 3 exits, and there isn’t enough people on the map to push out.

We’re scoring last in the match up. No wood chest last week, and only 3 pips for rank 2300, so a grand total of 4 pips.

Decay set in. Logged out. Logged into another game. Had fun in the remainder of my valuable leisure time.

I wish the Devs would read your post.

Fun went away.

Now we have to calculate every moment in WvW.

Ridiculous.

At the end of the day, with the new PIP system I still say the servers would do just fine. You can argue against it again and again and it still won’t change the idea that it could work.

When you have a person who thinks that there are four servers per tier (there aren’t, there are three) and has already stated that the links are still very much a beta test, one knows that WvW is being ignored.

I’ve read that page over and over and if you look, he lays out the ‘unfair’ matches right from the start – and it has been more than unfair for linkings to add to bandwagoning against his statement in that page, there is more bandwagoning and score manipulation by guilds and servers than ever before with the addition of real world paid mercenaries who trash the game and any real WvW’er who goes against their plans.

I’ve seen what links do and they do a horrid thing where we once had a community. We knew whom we could trust. We knew whom we could call for help. We knew each other by first names – but not any longer.

Links aren’t part of the host – they aren’t included in most decisions or even in squads that are closed and not speaking outside their numbers.

It’s very disconnected in WvW right now. Without ‘community ’and knowing that the other person is someone to be counted on and you KNOW them, the whole “WvW” game mode is more ’pay for play’ in a very bad way for all players.

Mercenaries are never addressed – and linking made mercs all the more ‘needed’ and all the more abused in this game mode.

World linking had nothing to do with participation going up, unless you count the mercenaries paid to be on larger servers – that is the only ‘uptick’ from linking and that’s heinous abuse of real WvW’ers.

Adding a Legendary, that raised the population incredibly.

World Linking is still listed as a ‘beta test’. Not my words, theirs.

Linking is a destroyer of the game.

Adding a Legendary and tickets added value.

Linking needs to GO.

What will happen with unlinking is that lower tiered servers may not have any enemies to fight and will congregate on off hours for enemy servers. This will allow massive k-trains to go unhindered. People forget the reason linking was done in the first place, to prevent this from happening.

I don’t know what server you are on or if you are linked or host but you’re not speaking for many who stay on our servers – having one account, not many.

There are more players since the addition of a legendary, so I believe you are very wrong about such a disaster happening if the servers were unlinked.

We can either have a new map or we can unlink the servers – the latter gives us our server names and identity back – the other just makes more of a mess but takes the pressure off during prime time.

I believe in our servers, our name and our identities.

Linked servers are not respected nor given communication the same way as those on the host server.

That in and of itself should be reason enough to unlink all servers.

I played this system last night for several hours on a mostly dead map because of the login issues, and this is what I found.

  • It is not that hard to get and maintain participation on a dead map, but if you encounter even small groups of enemies that kill you before you can do much, especially when you have to run a long way to find an objective you don’t own, you’ll decay in spite of being actively playing. If this system is designed to encourage participation rather than winning, it is missing the mark.
  • The system encourages people to make dumb decisions, like killing an enemy NPC rather than focusing on objectives.
  • Any prolonged siege is going to be hard on the members of the zerg. There will be pressure to disobey commanders in order to keep participation up.
  • The timer for escorting yaks should at least equal the time it takes to escort the slowest yak on the longest path.
  • Most importantly, if this was designed to reduce people afk-ing at spawn to run down their decay timer, it doesn’t work. When I got done playing at T6, I still had a long time to sit around and wait before that participation meter decayed enough for me to stop getting rewards. Maybe it was less time than before by one tick, I don’t know, but it hardly makes the issue go away.

WRT the whole issue of the #GAMEPLAYPURITY being threatened by people wanting rewards…first, get over yourselves. Second, what I honestly don’t get is why the devs were (and in some ways, continue to be) so reluctant to reward this game mode in the first place. I mean, before reward tracks and pips and all of it—if they’d just given good rewards from events and killing lords and give more rare gear and stuff from just, yanno, doing the gameplay like normal, at least to match boss trains in PvE when those rewards were first added, then we wouldn’t be in this situation.

That they conceived of a gameplay mode that was supposed to be “endgame” in nature, more or less, but then continuously drag their feet about rewarding it on even a casual level…well, it just boggles my mind.

The big question for Anet is, why is anyone losing participation for defending or healing or any other mechanic that ’doesn’t get participation’ presently?

They didn’t think this through very well.

Here is the thing, the new decay timer waits about a minute till aggressive decay. Each kill tacks on 30 seconds to the timer for a total of 1 minute. Are you kitten kidding me, you basically took the module for the kill streak booster and added it to the timer?!?

You just basically hurt WvW right there for the reward track system and pip system. There are commanders who wait for those to gather up at a gate before moving out and sometimes it takes them several minutes to gather. Then you will have roamers who are trying to kill stuff on large maps.

Adjust the timers to something more reasonable, the current decay rate is way too fast.

Without real testing, without input from players, without those who create playing the game, is there any doubt left that WvW is being given such little care that single players can’t play any longer – at all?

WvW was supposed to be the big end game for GW2 but now WvW has become a ‘hey is it outnumbered there’ and ‘wait here for the decay timer’ and ’it’s all about the pips, community be darned’.

I’m kind of tired of people that never stepped foot on my home server before linking saying it was a ghost town. The populations may have not been nonstop fry your computer zerg worthy, and sure, there were almost always imbalances, but some of us actually liked the moments of guaranteed down time.

Don’t get me wrong, big fights are ok (in moderation) but I’m rather sick of logging in, looking at the dailies and upon entering wvw and hoping for some peace amd relaxing, instead seeing 3 sets of OJs in 2 or more areas of the map.

Not only do I agree with your last paragraph, it’s one that Anet should take to heart.

I am playing a lot less WvW now.

As are many.

And this is just the beginning.

We can either get another BL (please no) or we need to unlink. There are no other choices in the long run of the health of WvW.

Truly you guys should read the posts here.. at least a couple of them. Since this new PIP system the populations have exploded. Queues are not uncommon and frankly splitting it all back up again would open the door to more of these people that want to come in but decide not to a lot of prime time because of the queues.

It’s NOT like it was before the linking.

NA T1 server here, and except for reset there is generally 1 BL plus EBG queued through the rest of the days, and generally that BL queue is less than 10. This whole queue thing you speak of isn’t a problem on YB, and I imagine it’s really not that much of a problem outside of BG.

ANet has allowed players to vote on permanency of linking, and if I remember right it was a pretty heavy majority that wanted linking to continue. Those of you that want to blow the system up are most likely sitting on servers that might have one or two major WvW guilds during NA. What about servers that have no major WvW guilds left? How fun would WvW be for them?

You are on YB and saying there are no queues? No idea why you’d say that because I know otherwise by experience and lately…

I just left YB, you, sir, must not be playing in NA prime time or many other times where there is no room on any BL for any players – queues are huge.

You’re on a host server. Host servers are not the ones who have no name, no presence and no help when one makes most callouts.

Sorry, but overall participation increased with linking…

None of you have provided any real evidence or rational arguments to remove linking. Some of you can type until your fingers hurt, but it doesn’t change the stated dev fact that wvw is healthier, in part, due to linking… All in all, it’s pretty irrational to want wvw back in the same failing state it was in before linking…. Makes zero sense and is counterproductive to wanting a more thriving game mode.

How does WvW ‘thrive’ with people not working together on most servers other than to follow a blob or answer a blob?

…And you didn’t answer my ‘reasons’; our server identiy, which is important to any real WvW’er as well as knowing players we are playing with over time, and knowing them well. You can’t do that on a linked server set. Community, organization and cooperation doens’t usually happen amongst strangers.

How are my reasons not enough of a reason for someone who might play less than I do by far?

No tactical importance of towers on Desert BL

One of my guild mates pointed this out and I think he is right. On the Alpin Borderlands every tower has some tactical importance that includes not just hoarding supplies.

On alpin Borderlands:
Spawn tower left: You can open the Bay with a treb from there.
Spawn tower right: It’s on the direct way from spawn to the hill.
West and East tower: Allow you to spot enemies early, if they plan to attack your garrison from the north. You can open the garrison with trebs from there.

All these towers have some tactical use or position while on the desert borderland their only use seems to be hoarding supplies. Also they are pretty big, which makes them harder to defend with few people.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Desert Borderland, but since I noticed the uselessness of the towers, it really bugs me.

I love the Desert BL but you’re right, tactically both south towers have zero reason other than to be ‘near’ the enemy spawn.

Would I move Garri to the middle? Yep, I just might.

EU did not need linking to balance out the population.

EU populations were not balanced in the slightest, when FSP was stacked 2 years ago there were week nights (let alone reset) where you had queues on EB 150+ and 20-30 on every single borderland, despite the fact there would often be nothing to fight on 2 borderlands because non-stacked servers simply didn’t have the numbers to fight on all maps.

And the same thing happened the entire game, back when SFR was validating at one point 100 people a day, back when Vizunah had queues on multiple maps outside prime when the other T1 servers could barely fill one map, etc.

The populations have never been remotely balanced on EU, which is why so few over the matchups of the course of this game have ended with three servers having even remotely close scores by the end of the week.

A server/world based system where you can easily transfer and where “worlds” only apply to one small aspect of the game, whether it is standalone or linked servers is simply fundamentally flawed in regard to getting even vaguely balanced populations.

Yes but server balance is a NA thing. Sure you got steamrolled by SFR or FSP from time to time, but the beauty of EU was that matches naturally changed each week, without manual adjustments or linkings.

Linkings brought the disassociation of server identity to EU, which was difficult to straddle given identity related to language that exists, and continues to exist, in EU. That disassociation, in turn, brought the bandwagon… More than we had ever seen prior. To an almost absurd level now.


THIS!!!*

What had been a reasonably healthy WvW scene in EU was gutted with the linkings. Sever identity was key to robust gameplay in EU. And a minimal glicko variance augmented changing matchups. It made the game worth playing, even if you were steamrolled some matches.


This is the sentiment of most veterans in WvW.

Our server means something to us.

Identity is gone.

Close friendships are not possible in an ever-changing player base.

This game either wants longivity or it wants quick fixes.

Right now, I feel it went with a very horrid quick fix.

We, as players, deserve the server we chose, not one we’re forced to play in. One where many times we hear “I’m sorry, who are you? You don’t matter, link person.”

100 badges per 1 WvW ticket

The topic title says it.
It will give stronger incentives for both soft/hardcore wvw players to “actively” play WvW more, rather than leave after pip track is complete.
+ No more complaints about badges are rather useless
+ X #of badges per X# of tickets can change but I say 100 badges per wvw skrimish ticket seems fair for both players and ANet.

and yes I know this or similar complaint/suggestion has been made in the past, but I just wanted to keep this topic up in first page regularly.
