Will you consider separating www from pve in regard to get the opportunity to have 2 different build layouts (traits, skills, armor) for the same character? As it is now for pvp and pve.

www and pve are two very different instances. There should be two different character layouts.

Ranger balance (www): What plans do you have for Rangers (pet, weapons, skills, traits) to make diverse viable builds that can compete with other professions?

eg. a lot of traits are not in synergy, no one use spirits, ranger lack something “unique” to contribute in groups.

3)
Why do you concentrate so much on new content on the cost of not fixing known bugs?

Many known bugs since release day are still not fixed. Most players would rather prefer a 100% bug-free game rather than a broken game with more broken extra content.

Just for laughs, I tried the Frost & Stone Spirit and the Elite spirit of Nature in the Maw fractal. They also got targeted by the Maw’s beam!

Not even in the that instance, spirits are any good!

Inquiry for you then (regarding Rangers in dungeons). My first level 80 was a Ranger and I loved the skills and gameplay, A LOT. ……

Rangers have their highs and lows like every other class. They have really good DPS, but they have to work at it a bit more than other classes like warrior or mesmer. It’s possible just not as easy.
As for ranger balance, we have frequent meetings about balance where we discuss that sort of stuff – I go to those meetings on behalf of dungeon content and to lend my experience with ranger knowledge.

I personally accept the tradeoff of damage for survivability (Can’t do damage if you’re dead). I tend to run a condition build using shortbow and sword\dagger, and focus on being supportive and holding aggro while keeping a steady output of DPS through conditions. Rangers have an incredible amount of evasion and damage mitigation if you are very focused and know when to use your skills and heals (prot on dodge roll, vigor on heals) means you can keep prot for when you mess up, and always have evasions ready. There are some very successful dungeon builds, but most of them aren’t DPS focused.
We’re working on ideas for making pets better in dungeons. There’s a list of reasons we can’t just tweak a number and call it good (it wouldn’t actually solve the problem), but it is something we are aware of and working on.
One of the things you have to think about, is how the game is played. If we buff rangers just for dungeons, than they are too strong for the open world. Considering I can solo most content in the open world by letting my pet tank, I feel ranger is very powerful outside of dungeons. We can’t have rangers that change based on PvP, open world, and dungeons because that gets too confusing for players and puts us on a slippery slope. Whatever we do to the ranger, it has to happen in both the open world and dungeons, so it requires more than just number tweaks. You see a lot of bots as rangers for that very reason – they are really strong open world classes, and buffing them for the sake of dungeons doesn’t work out to being a good fix.

I’m not aware of all details, but I understand it is possible to (ab)use guesting to farm event and dragon chests and gathering nodes.

I believe this is the reason for the major lags in chest-events because some players (ab)use guesting for farming.

Personally, I don’t care if they farm by guesting. They can farm their kittens off! Fine with me, I enjoy the game in a different way. However I don’t like the lags when I’m doing my events on my home server. That ruins my gaming experience. And I’m sure for many others as well!

Anet should not allow a system (guesting) that causes poorer gaming experience for other players. As it is now guesting is being abused AND causing a bad gaming experience for others.

The simple kittenion would be to reward each character ONE chest per event no matter how many servers the player visits. Then we could all enjoy playable events!

FYI, there is a series of check boxes you can select at the top of your crafting page and you can select the level of quality to show only what you can make of that type. So simply select masterwork and deselect all others to see what is available for you to craft that counts toward the monthly.

If you want your pet to do their #3 attack (eg. Canine Brutal Charge – knockdown, or Bear Defy Pain – 5 sec no damage!) you can stow pet before entering a battle. When pet pops out, its first attack will be the #3!

Not bad starting a fight with a knock down or 5 sec of NO DAMAGE!

Remember not to engage / start a fight with pet F2. The extra buffs from traits don’t apply. You have to start a fight and then use F2.

Pets dodge when you dodge

From one of my older posts:

Either make pets immune to all incoming AoE damage, or make it in a way that pets only get AoE damage when the player gets AoE damage.

If the player gets damage from AoE, the pet could also get the same or 50% of that damage migrated to it. This means if the player is skilled, and dodges /evades the AoE, the pet gets no damage. But if you are not a skilled player and just keep getting AoE damage, you will be punished by loosing your pet.

ps. a general buff to pets’ health is more than wellcome!

Hawk and Eagle now have their own unique icons instead of sharing one-

Unfortunately, they now also share the same F2 cooldown.

When you eg. use F2 on hawk and swap pet to Eagle, F2 on eagle is on cooldown. It shouldn’t be!

AND the cooldown is around 10 sec and not 6 sec as before patch and as it says on toolbar info. That’s 4 sec extra! Bug, or ninja nerf?!!?

Eagle and Hawk F2 share the same cooldown.
When you eg. use F2 on hawk and swap pet to Eagle, F2 on eagle is on cooldown. It shouldn’t be!

Hi guys

Is there a skill / weapon that can turn invaders in www to another form?

I was in the jumping puzzle in EB (AG server) when I got attacked by someone and suddenly became a bird!?!?

I had new weapon skills and none og my own stuff. Was that by an enemy or an ally maybe?

I havent used any consumeables at all.

Never experienced that before.

Longbow traited for extra range (Eagle Eye) does not apply the extra range to the weapon as default. The red line under weapon skill still exist even though target is now within the extra range. When you manually shoot you get the hit, but with the red underline still on.

Please make the extra range work. It’s not easy to find out if you are within the new range or not!

It was (maybe still is sometimes) really really frustrating and difficult at the beginning. But i’m kind of used to it now.

I tried a JP with my alt tiny asura one day, and that was actualy even worse. You could not see anything above him.

I hate everything that includes “a chance”! Either give it or don’t tease!

I really don’t want to make a Ranger built on “chances”! This is not Las Vegas! I want something reliable and something I can count on.

Imo, spirits should be re-made. Maybe make them like some kind of signet.

eg.:

  • When a certain spirit is chosen in the skill slot, it is automatically summoned.
  • As default spirits can move and follow.
  • They don’t agro NPCs ( they are spirits after all!) but can be targeted and killed when ranger in battle. Non-NPCs can target and kill spirits anytime.
  • Spirits have passive and active effects.
  • Spirit gives a passive effect as long as it is alive and active is not chosen.
  • Spirit gives active effect when chosen and it has a cooldown.
  • Can be traited to have shorter cooldown, more health, and better effects (like traps and so on)

This way, you know what you deal with. No more “chance of …”.

My idea might not be the best, but I think we all agree that the current state of spirits are awful and something needs to be done.

I though that the active effects could be something group oriented. Something that would make rangers attractive in groups. Something uniqe and beneficial for the group.

I thought Ranger was fine, then I switched...

Honestly, Anet, did you guys make ranger pet just to be on passive mode in dungeons?

I use my pet and it usually never dies if it does i simply exchange it for the other. Pick good skills extend beast mastery and you will have a god pet. It is always sad to see someone who cannot master their pet, but if you take the time to learn it anything is possible with them.

This is excactly what’s wrong / broken with the ranger profession! No other profession is forced to use points in certain traits just to make a part of their profession to work properly!

Yes, sure we can all keep the pet alive by being BM and trait to make pet happy. And give all your attention to pet. How many viable, different builds can you than have?

With ranger traits and skills and pet, it just feels like you have to make that one build that sucks least. With other professions it’s a quest for making a better and new build.

We are not just unhappy Ranger players. We are unhappy / unsatisfied customers (I’m sure Engineers and Necromancers also agree).
Obviously the product has major flaws. If any other type (eg. a TV) you would get a new one or money back.
Anet should bite the dust and admit some of the professions are broken. They should not make faulse ads about having 8 professions when only a few can work as intended.
No more ignoring major profession and balance flaws.

If the product was working as they claim, people should be saying:

“Oh my god, I can’t decide which profession to have as my main! They are all so fun and awesome! I wish I had time to level all professions to 80!”

Unfortunately, the contrary is a reality now!

Question about ranger utility skills that aren’t being used and how it hasn’t been addressed yet.
Colin: I actually have no idea right now what stuff that group is working on. I’d have to check in on them and see when I get back. But one of the big things that we’ve kicked up recently is basically and analytics team that records all the data in the game. It allows us to look at that and help make decisions about the things we’re doing. They’re actually the group that helped us find a lot of the loot issues recently. Because we really just didn’t have any information to get that stuff. We kicked this team up so that we could get all of that information. It’s incredibly useful to have all of that stuff so that we can figure things out. Without that you’re kind of flying blind. We’re able to look now at what weapons are getting used all the time and we use that date to determine what weapons really suck and go and try to fix those. And what kind of skills are getting used, which ones aren’t. It really helps us determine what needs a boost. So I imagine if no one is using a bunch of the ranger utility skills, they’re going to see that and look at those and go try to address those based on that data. So hopefully that’s on the list if no one is using those subset […].

Do NOT play ranger anymore! That has to be noted somewhere in their data! And when they finally see that 0 people play ranger, then we might get some attention.

Unfortunately, I have only my main ranger at level 80. But I’m working hard on my alt warrior and thief!

Not true!

Yes, we still need a lot of fixing, but if played well all groups in Fractals / dungeons benefit from the ranger!

We have to know our limitations and our strength. And believe me, our strength is not petit once you can master it!

My last Fractal run (Volcanic) I was the one saving the others in the group and finnishing the Shaman boss.

But imo, Fractals or any other non-pvp instances should not be used as “balance” arguments. These pve instances are not the real issue rangers are struggling with.

So... I think they buffed the wrong spirits.

What are you talking about? I run a spirit ranger all the time and let me tell you that they’re already OP. Our spirits don’t need buffs. Heck our entire class is darn near perfect and-

I guess making proper pet AI costs alot of money, since Anet doesn’t want to even touch it with a barge pole!

We have to be VERY patient about seeing any improvement in our poor pets’ AI. This task is one of the last “to-do”s on Anet’s list.

Guard has other uses before more people complain about it…

  1. Guard grants 10 or more seconds of Protection to the pet, with 24 second traited cooldown this is very significant.
  2. Guard makes your pet more efficient by staying in one area instead of running back to you (especially useful if you are upstairs and it is down).
  3. Guard makes your pet more efficient because it chooses its own targets in a distant area without mobs having to aggro on you or you hitting them.
  4. Guard allows you to essentially ground-target F2 skills.
  5. Guard grants stealth to the pet, which can be used for a sneak attack of a long-activation f2 skill like Firebreathing.
  6. Guard allows you to grab mob aggro in two different places simultaneously.
  7. Guard can be used to save your pet’s life by dropping aggro (though this may not work with new stealth aggro rules.)
  8. Guard allows you to send an invisible pet to attack someone while you hide behind a building/ridge. Pet appears out of thin air with no ranger in sight.
  9. Guard allows you to attack targets at range 4000, especially useful for hitting siege equipment.
  10. Guard allows you to send a Reef Drake just enough into the water to use Sonic Barrier, which you can then use for Chaos Amor or Confusing Arrows on land.

I could go on…

It should be a pet F[number] command. NOT occupying 1/3 skill spots.

I love my ranger too much to quit.

However I’m leveling a thief for www and a warrior for fractals.

If we don’t get the needed love, my ranger will become my solo pve character and nothing more. [sad face]

I really enjoy the combat system of GW2. It’s not always about raw damage stats but actually player skills and tactics. At least 1 vs 1 or 2-3. Facing a large group of invaders means death no matter what (outnumbered). Also I like that different professions contribute with unique skills.

For most of the attacks and skills, there exist appropriate counter-attacks or counter-skills. This is what makes the battle interesting and challenging.

However counter-stealth is non-existing in the game! And, honestly I can’t think of any better suited profession than the Ranger to have this skill.

There are many ways this could be achieved:

  • it could be a as default for all pets
  • it could be by introducing a new pet with “stealth sensing” F2. (Bat with Sonar Ping?)
  • it could be by traiting in BM.
  • it could be a new ranger skill (“sense of nature” / “feel the disturbance” we are one with nature after all, arent’ we?

The result could be one of many:

  • Show stealthed foe like some kind of hologram viewable for all allies.
    Now the revealed foe could be both targetable and hitable (be damaged) or it could only be viewable but not be damaged. So the squishy thieves could have a chance to not be killed, but be traceable.
  • Show stealthed foe as a red dot on mini map for all allies in the area.

Either way, I really think stealth needs some kind of counter, and Ranger would be the most appropriate profession.
