Personally I’m light years away from making a legendary. But when the day comes I think I would make The Dreamer (short bow). Even though it’s not the best skin, it’s a weapon I use most of the time.

I agree with you on most points. I know you can change skills and it works fine with zero problems. My concern is e.g. when you want to be a fully signet build in pve but your traits are locked for a trap trait. In this case you cant have the Signet of the Beastmaster trait (active effects of signets affects ranger too). And lets face it, ranger signets are really poor if you dont have the signet of the beastmaster trait, which requires 30 points. A full trap build requires also 30 points ( diffrent tree). Therefore you can’t be the optimal build in both situations.
This shows how much potential there is in the ranger profession and its spirits. We just need some tweaking and fixing, and it will be perfect! Get down to work Anet!!! Maybe the other professions will soon admire the rangers and ask for us in dungeons?!?!?

I would really like to have separate builds for pve and dungeons. Pve and dungeons are two VERY DIFFERENT situations. Dungeons demand team play and contributions to strengthen the whole team (Just take a look at fractals), whereas pve is mostly solo play without the need to support others (it’s a one man show, basically). Therefore there should be two separate builds: one pve build and another for dungeons.
You can’t just go to LA and change the trait tree every time you go from pve to dungeon and back again. It’s too much hassle and it would ruin even the wealthiest player!
I can illustrate with an example:
As a ranger in dungeons I can support and strengthen the team by my traps (both controlling and condition dmg). But when I go solo in pve, I would rather use other skills. Those skills are of course in a different trait tree. So it’s not optimal to e.g. be a signet ranger in pve when your traits are for traps.
I believe a lot of people would like to do pve as glass cannons (which is totally doable), but no one would like to have glass cannons on a dungeon team (to much down time).
So why can’t we have two separate builds?
One dungeon build and one pve build.

I’m a condition trapper and I LOVE it. It’s also a great contribution to groups in dungeons. I use carrion emblazoned armor (condition / power / vitality) with chrysocola orichalcum jewls (condition / power / vitality) . Weapons are carrion pearl models (condition / power / vitality). Runes I use 5x Sup rune of the mad king (+165 power, +10% condition duration, +15% bleed duration) + 1 of those 10% MF.

Ok, now I understand the problem and I believe you are right. I only see a raise in my pets dmg, when I choose pet specific traits. Like malicious training or expertise training. Another way to raise pet attributes is by Master’s Bond (which btw needs some fixing!) . I really doubt the pet gets any other kind of boost to their attributes through the ranger. They should make the pet have a default base value, then add ranger attributes to it, at any instance. Meaning if you, as already mentioned, eat food that gives dmg boost, the pet should get it as well.
What kind of ranger wouldn’t share their food with the beloved pet??!?!
Wouldn’t be great to learn our pets to fetch us drops? Instead of the ranger going to one dead body to another and search (F), you just press e.g. F5, and your pet gets you all the drops!

If I understood you correctly, you mean if you are e.g. a condition ranger, you would like your pet to deal condition dmg as well? But if you are melee vital build, you would like to have a pet with hight vit and high melee dmg? Is that the case?
If so, there are a lot of different pets to chose. I rather have the pets have their own attributes. As long as there is a wide variety of pets (and attributes) this should be ok. Imho, ranger and pet should not be directly locked together. This would narrow playing diversity.
I play condition ranger, so in pve I mostly use eagle / hawk for their bleed F2 skill. Btw, its an awesome skill, cool down only 6 sec (not-traited)! But in dungeons I use bear or devourer (more vit/tough).
Thanks for the answers all. It’s good to know that someone on the Anet team also share our problems and sufferings. I dont know how much Anet take our pleads and suggestions seriously, but maybe the devs will listen to their ranger- co-workers instead. As long as there is at least one Anet ranger, I keep my hopes up and keep wishing for the fixes.
I wish we had birds that actually could fly, and not bee on an invisible grounded leash.
Also pets that could jump down instead of taking the marathon length walk around a mountain.

The holidays are soon over us, and hopefully a new and better patch for us rangers. I’m sure we are on Santa’s good list. We deserve a nice present :-)
I thought we all could list 3 things we would like to have in the new patch ( or any patch in the future). I know a lot of issues have been discussed in other threads, but here is chance to keep it short and simple. Make a list of the 3 MOST important changes / fixes you really wish for your ranger. PLEASE do this on a serious and constructive matter. NO unrealistic suggestion like a 50% dmg buff . 3 things that would make your time as a ranger more fun and enjoyable. Suggestions that Anet hopefully will implement someday. Also make an effort to read previous replies to avoid duplicates and similar suggestions.

- Pet immune for 3 seconds when player dodges.

i like my traps :-) Im a condition trapper. The dmg could be higher, but they DO support my team in dungeons. spike and chilled are awesome. flame too! Imo, rangers potential is actually in traps. What else can we contribute to a group? I say more dmg and higher range for traps. thay would be awesome!

Imho, one of the best contribution the ranger offers in dungeons / groups, is our TRAPS! Therefore my build is a condition trapper. Also this build can easily be converted to a pve build without the need to re-spec the traits.

I’m looking for a guild with ACTIVE players on Aurora Glade. Mainly for pve, dungeons and www.
The guild must be casual / pro with mature (not necessary in age but in mind!) and polite, friendly, loyal players. There must be many active players on daily basis and a well organised leader / management.
Me: A dedicated and loyal teammate. Main lvl 80 all exotics. Alts are being leveled up.
At the moment in a totally AWESOME guild, Ashen Gates, (see ashen-gates.com) but unfortunately not many active players any more. Specially when gaming at late night, almost no guildies online.

You must understand how we (rangers) feel about our profession. Only when you comprehend and share our feelings about rangers, then you can also understand the anger, disappointment and rage all rangers share now.
I LOVE playing as a ranger! I really CARE about the ranger! That’s why I also CRY when our rangers don’t get the attention and fixing that is so much needed. If people didn’t LOVE their ranger they surely wouldn’t bother CRYING for help. If we didn’t CARE about our ranger there wouldn’t be so many (constructive) posts in the forum. This is not just some random people complaining about minor bugs. This is the voice of truly dedicated and loyal fans and paying customers. Therefore, please do not take advantage of our LOVE with the ranger. Do not abuse our passion! Don’t let us down!
A lot of people say in anger and despair, that they will not play ranger anymore. I also have had those thoughts. But I know I will continue to play my ranger because I LOVE being a ranger. I just CARE too much about my ranger to dump him and roll a warrior.
I want to have faith in you, Jon / Anet. I know you guys are well aware of our issues and I know you will do your best to fix them. It just wouldn’t hurt if it was done a little faster though :-) I still LOVE this game and will always be a ranger! Just don’t abuse our LOVE and dedication.

One of the less incompetent ranger builds was condition trapper. Now with the 30s / 24s (traited) cool down on ranger traps, it is officially the most incompetent profession ever!
We thought our traps made a little tiny contribution to our team in dungeons, but now, even that ridiculous imaginary control role is also gone. I have no words for the disappointment all rangers feel right now.
Is this permanent or just a bug? please comment!
Honestly, this patch was a huge disappointment for all of us rangers. At least you guys at Anet have the courage to admit that the ranger is still a broken prof and need A LOT of improvements. That’s a start! Mean while, i have a warrior to level up!

I also wish to show my despair and disappointment on this matter. Anet, at least let us use some tactical positioning to make the ranger a little less incompetent. Using our brains to make tactical positioning would make this game more fun and challenging for the rangers. It also gives a more realistic touch to the game. Let our ranged weapons BE ranged!!!
BTW, anyone experienced getting “INVULNERABLE” but at the same time being hit by foe ranged attack?

In some threads you read only about bad and negative stuff like players being rude in chat, kicking parties in dungeon or just generally making the gaming less enjoyable for others. Therefore I wished to share some of the good positive experiences i have had so far.
I play on the Aurora Glade server (Ashen Gates guild) and just wanted to say that all of you guys / gals on the server are indeed AWESOME ( like my Norn keeps saying it)!
People are friendly, polite and really helpful. I have on several occasions encountered a champion or a group event that i couldn’t manage solo. But a simple help request in map chat, resulted in a massive backup! That’s impressive. I have also only good to say about making parties for dungeon runs. People guide and help each other and we all have a blast!
So thanks to all of you on Aurora Glade who always make the time to help fellow warriors :-)
I hope all players make an effort to make this game a better experience for everybody!
Why would you make the trait Masters Bond in a matter that resets the bond when pet is swapped?!!?! The whole Beastmastery line strongly encourages the ranger to make pet swaps regularly with pre-chosen traits like Zephyr’s speed , and Loud whistle!
Now Anet, on one side you make us swap pets on the go (Which we should, and which i LOVE), but you also have a trait (a broken trait imho) that says NO to pet swap!
Even worse, going from land to water also resets the bond! WHY!?!?
I read that the stats of max bond is like a +20% to pets stat. Its like a sigil in a way. But your sigil stack doesn’t reset when you swap weapons?!?!!
Please remove the reset when pets are swapped or when going from land to water and vice versa.
The only time Masters Bond should be reset, is when the pet or player is defeated.
Good news: Still love this game and still love the ranger!
I strongly emphasis on all prof being equally. But this doesn’t mean they have to do everything like each other and have same stats. That would be boring. Every soldier on the battleground have different tasks due to their strengths and weakness. They should be able to, when played right, make the whole team stronger.
Snowybell in this forum said: “While we have to multi-task, a warrior just needs to press 1,2,3 with his sword to get 40k damage.”
Well that’s how a warrior should be. Now that said, there must be some balance. If we (the rangers) are not able to make 40K dmg, then Anet must make us tough enough to stand (at least!) 40k dmg! Every prof has a different play style. But I agree with most of you, the balancing of the them need more attention and work. Being a ranger with pet, should not have drawbacks vs eg. a warrior without a pet (and without multi-task).
If Anet fix those issues others and myself mentioned earlier in this thread, AND gave us better vital / tough stat to it would be awesome.
I don’t mind being a ranger who is not best at making the highest dmg, but i would love to be the best to the something other prof can’t do!!! eg. better control, better pet tanking, more cond / boons from pet, etc. you know what i mean!
For example, some say rangers suck in dungeon. Never have I been in a group where they didn’t appreciate my ranger’s control abilities. But they could be even better! So could our pets!
I love this trait in dungeons. Being a range archer, makes a distance between you and your (melee) team mates. It can be difficult for them to rez u. When downed, my pet rez me rly faster with this trait. It is rly remarkable! My team mates dont have to come and rez me, they continue the fight. But if the pet is down, I’m glad my team rez me!
The trait that gives pet more speed when u r downed could make this even stronger (faster).

Some kind of battle resumé. I don’t mean a work-meter as mentioned in another thread, but something funny / “goofy”. Maybe something like those you get at end-mission in Left 4 Dead. “The healer” – player who healed most or “Malice warrior” – player who made most condition damage etc etc.
If this is against Anet policy, or it might be abused as a work-meter, could it at least be a resumé of your own (private) work? Each player could only see information about their own dungeon run. I would love to see how many enemies i poisoned / bleeded with my SB or how many i chilled with my frost trap (yes i’m a ranger :-) ) or how many times i kissed the dirt (downed / got killed). I really miss these kind of info. It could also help to see your own development and make tactical changes for the next run.

If gold (and silver+copper) became account bound wouldn’t that indirectly stop bots??
The only reason botters survive is in fact due to players buying gold! If you (Anet) stop the gold flow, you actually stop bots. Because when botters can’t sell their gold, why would they continue? Though they might send items instead of gold. Still, i think the real problem is not bots, but those players who feed the bots by buying gold for real money!
Seriously guys, stop ruining the game for yourself and others.
Anet should make “razzia” against players buying gold. No one gives free gold to another player! If a player receives gold or some expensive item, its a clear sign of real money exchange! ban them!
I’m no expert, but I believe the problem is the rangers lack of condition removers and thieves condition bursts/precision.
You could try the following:
- Shared anguish + Hide in plain sight + wilderness knowledge (wilderness survival traits)
- Nature’s bounty + Nature’s protection + Evasive purity (Nature magic trait)
These require 30 points in both wilderness survival and nature magic. So you get kind of defensive build. Or at the same time a condition / boon duration build if you prefer?! The last 10 points could go to primal reflexes (skirmishing).
Pet: Brown bear for its “shake it off” + krytan drakehound for its immobilize
skills: Healing spring + lightning reflexes + protect me + signet of renewal + entangle
Armor and weapon: not sure. Maybe something to counterweight your defensive build or go defensive all the way!
again, i’m sure more experienced players have better suggestions. But give it a try and good luck :-)
I agree with most of the points mentioned and wish to emphasize on these:
- Pets should dodge when we dodge!
Especially dungeons would be more ranger-pet friendly if pets could dodge out of those red circles!
- Pets must stop right next to ranger!
Give the pets some more discipline. They should not just run wherever they feel like.
- Improve respons time!
This one goes for all F skills and attack animation “Register hit from pets at animation’s start, not animation’s end”
- Long range pets should have same attack range as longbow!
eg. spiders are imho long range pets. Therefore they should be able to attack target as the ranger using longbow.
- “Stow pet” must do so until counter commanded.
When the pet is stowed away, it should only get back if the ranger commands so. Again a discipline issue!
- Pet swap-time should be pet-dependent!
I’m not sure if this is doable technically, but I think it would balance the “weak” pets problem. Eg.: Feline pets die really fast due to their low vitality and low toughness. Therefore their swap-time should be less than say a bear. The ranger shouldn’t be punished by extra penalty swap-time because of a pets weak lifetime.
I’m sure these points and many more have been outlined in many other threads. But in order to have a correct functioning ranger-pet symbiosis, the mentioned points are VITAL.
Points that I especially DISAGREE with:
- “Pet stat progression scaling directly from Ranger (e.g. x % of ranger’s precision)”
Pets should have their own stats. Period. There is a decent variety in pet skill/stat so you can pick the one that suites the situation best. Remember ying/yang. Your weakness can be counterweighted by your pets strength.
- “Removing pet damage as a whole and adding it to the ranger.”
What’s the point of the pet then? No pet damage = no pet = no ranger!
I’m not a game developer, but I believe the mentioned points are issues that are easily fixed?!?
Thank you for the links buddy. It’s really hard to find a good looking medium armor. Imho the light and heavy have the best looking armor. As a norn ranger the possibilites are limited. I love the norn T3 but dislike the rumpled bustle on the back. Therefore looking for a vest / chest that shows tattoos.
