Hi all
I’m too mad and angry at myself to even bother with this message, but I just want to warn others so they don’t get in the same situation.
I accidentally left my own personal one-man guild that I used for saving mats in the guild vault!!!
I thought I was leaving a temp Crown Pav guild, but it was my own :-(
I have been saving mats for my Frostfang since day 1, but now I kicked myself 1 year back in the progress.
I’m completely devastated, and on the edge of depression. I know it’s all pixels, but I worked hard to earn those stacks upon stacks. With 3 unfortunate clicks, it’s all gone!
HERE IS MY ADVICE:
If you have a personal guild that you use for storage, invite at least another person that you trust in your guild. This way, even if you are so stupid and unfortunate as me, you wont loose all your stuff. The other person can simply invite you to the guild again.
I’m so sad now, that I’m going to take a break from GW2. It’s just too depressing.
Please take my advice, it’s a terrible feeling to suddenly loose all your stuff.

I wish Anet could broaden their merchandise selection. As it is now, the products are really restricted. I would gladly support the game with my money if they could make some cool merchandise. The opportunities are endless!
Personally, I wish I could buy:
1. Personalized 3D model of your own character
( eg. FigurePrints)
2. Framed GW2 art work.
(maps like those from …..Skyrim)
3. Miniature weapons.
Why don’t they make these?
Feel free to list what you would like to buy.
It’s just like the shortbow animation glitch.
Please don’t insult our intelligence!
Summoned creature AI is a different can of worms that we aren’t opening for the same reason. Pets that delay F2 use isn’t some wait script we put into their skills it has to do with core AI behavior shared by all pets and creatures and how they decide tasks. Rewriting that has the risks of breaking millions of unknown things so we have up until now band aided the solution. It is something that needs addressing but won’t be addressed until we can kitten how and when we will test it.
As a former AAA PC game developer, I am mystified by the above.
My frost drake’s underwater F2 is instant, but the dry land F2 has a several-second delay — that makes no sense whatsoever. Underwater, I press F2, and the button works immediately; on dry land, clicking F2 does nothing initially, for 2-3 seconds.
Why the difference?
Since you asked so nicely. The underwater skill is an instant skill which doesn’t not require the AI to change it’s think state, as it can fire off during other actions. The land skill plumbs into our animation system which requires the drake to change it think state and execute a new order to the animation system. Both AI think state and animation can’t be running 100% of the time on every creature on the server for obvious reasons (it would create massive CPU usage and generate tons of skill lag) Animations are masked by client side blending, but the AI stuff has no way to be masked. We can make special cases for Ranger Pet F2, but doing so requires time and testing.
Does this mean that we could, once for all, get rid of the delayed F2 / unresponsive F2 by NOT having a pet animation?
I don’t mind having a pet without a F2 animation as long as it can be instant! Please drop the animations and make it like underwater :-))
No because in order for the creatures to attack they are going to use animations. For example I’m not going to spit fire breath out of a drake without it using its fire spitting animation.
Alright I respect that. I wouldn’t change the aesthetics of the game either (I must admit I enjoy the pets’ animations, hence being a ranger).
However, is there an option to make the hitboxes bigger or making them mini-AOE?
It’s funny you mention Drake fire breath. Imo, it is one of the most difficult attacks to land. Either the pet runs by foe or the foe moves slightly to the side due to F2 not being instant, which makes the pet completely miss the target. BUT if the fire, or any other attack, had a bigger (360 degree) hitbox, it would compensate for the late action.

As I stated, this change is a lot about low hanging fruit. The problem with ranger is things that are good we don’t want to overpower and the things that are not as good are difficult to change. For example:
- Skirmish and Wilderness line could probably swap half of their traits.
- Beastmastery has basically one generic trait per tier and just needs to be more generalized.
- both primary ranged weapons are a mix of single target and AoE.
- Both marksmanship and skirmish lines lack traits to enable power rangers.
Despite those problems rangers have some great builds in PvE, PvP, and WvW. The core problem is diversity but it just so happens that rangers are not setup in a way that makes it easy to improve that diversity problem.

Admitting and openly discussing the issues with ranger is a HUGE step. Those of us from pre-order days have been posting (screaming our lungs out) pages about these and other known issues. But until today, it felt like the official response (or the lack of it) was that everything is OK and you have to deal with it. Now, we can all at least agree on the issues and hopefully there will be improvements in the not so far future.
I understand there are coding challenges associated with eg. pet and spirit AI, which, as quoted, makes it very difficult to change. However I don’t understand why things like:
- Skirmish and Wilderness line could probably swap half of their traits.
- Beastmastery has basically one generic trait per tier and just needs to be more generalized.
or more specific
- Intimidation Training:
Activated (F2) abilities for canines and spiders cause cripple.
Wolf with fear (F2) and Drakehound with immobilized (F2) does NOT synergies at all with Intimidation Training.
are not on your priority to-do list?
These are, imo, gamebreaking flaws and should be taken care of.
Ranger
Trait: Beastmastery
Some of the traits are completely useless. Not from a subjective point of view, but due to mechanisms working against eachother.
Eg. Intimidation Training:
Activated (F2) abilities for canines and spiders cause cripple.
Wolf with fear (F2) and Drakehound with immobilized (F2) does NOT synergies at all with Intimidation Training. What is the logic behind this?
Master’s Bond:
Almost all traits, skills and weapons encourage you to swap pets on a regular basis. On top of that, pets are highly susceptible to AOE damage (a well-known fact) due to lack of evade mechanisms. Which further forces you to swap pets regularly. Why would anyone invest in Master’s Bond when a swap resets all of the hard-earned stacks?
Imho, you should loose the stacks when pet is defeated or changed ( not to be misinterpreted with swap). Also, there should be separated stacks for the four (2 land, 2 water) chosen pets. Therefore you should be able to keep the stacks on all active pets as a reward for being a good beastmaster keeping your pets alive.

Flaming rocks are not visible!
Maybe I’m a minority, but lately I discovered the following bug: When running Citadel of Flames path 1, the flaming rocks just before the gate control are invisible for me. I don’t know why, but I can’t see them which makes managing this part sometimes difficult if you don’t have a mesmer. I asked in our guild chat once if anyone else has experienced this, and it seems that I’m not the only one. Has anyone of you also witnessed this bug and/or is Arenanet aware of it? [ LiliumSanctus]

Class balance:
Ranger
Sick ‘Em will now apply ‘Revealed” to enemies they target. We want to introduce some counter play to Stealth (players have asked for that for a while), so we thought a pet “catching your scent” might be a cool way to insinuate some anti-stealth into the game.To help Rangers support allies, we increased the ability ranger pets have to support allies. For instance, the Bear condition removal isn’t strong enough, so we’ll be improving that. Moas and Fern Hound will also be improved.
There will also be # changes to some of the Ranger weapons.
OMG OMG OMG OMG
They DO listen:
Make pets sense cloaked enemies. I think pets need this. They are so useless against anything that cloaks. Even the AIs.
Maybe make it a trait or something.
+1
Make pets “see” hidden enemies on map.
The proces just takes a long time :-) Quotes are from 8 months ago!
As a main ranger since beta days, I’m really excited about the upcoming fixes.
Now, if only the messy trait lines would get a fix as well ;-)
Greetings blade brothers and sisters :-)
Am I the only one that find most boss fights, specially in dungeons, unnecessary annoying and difficult due to poor visibility? There are just too much glare and flash.
Eg.: we were fighting Subject Alpha in CoE, and there were so much flashy effects and solid colorful “pollution”, that we couldn’t see anything. It shouldn’t be like that. You should be able to see all players’ and npc’s movements at any time.
There should be an option to decrease the amount of glare.
Cheers
The new stat:
Dire Stat Combo (Condition Damage, Toughness, Vitality)
My trap ranger will rise again :-)
If they only would move the trap traits to wilderness survival where it belongs ……
He will be missed.
From now on, don’t expect any posts from devs in the ranger forum anymore.
/ And there were only warrior devs left.
Also, remember to start a fight BEFORE using F2 or the attack will NOT be traited.
Eg. if you start a fight by Drake’s F2 and you have traited for the extra concentration damage, it will not apply the extra damage. In order to gain the trait, you must start the fight before using F2.

I just hoped the 2-week-Living-Story-Updates changed to a 4-week-Living-Story-Updates.
Longer version:
I’m sure people who eat, sleep and breathe the game disagree with me because they constantly need some kind of carrot or whip, BUT the majority of the players would really love to have some more space and time between the updates.
I appreciate the updates, it really does indeed make the game living ;-) but I can predict a lot af players will soon burn out or feel like they only play for keeping up with the updates and realize the fun part is gone.
Also it will eventually burn out the devs working with the updates. Take it easy. NON of the players bought the game on a promise that said: “There will be updats every 14 days”.
From a marketing point of view, I understand that there is an interest of keeping the players hooked and alive in the game. But if it all feels like a choire / rush / “must keep up” the result will be that players take a loong break from the game.
I miss the days where you had the time to do the new updates, but also slowly level your alts and exploring the maps and events.

NO! Do not delete the pet! (though I fully understand your frustration, I have been main ranger since beta).
They (Anet) have to fix the pet! The fun aspect of being a ranger is indeed the symbiosis with the pet. Unfortunately, Anet prioritize 2-week living story so much, that no crew is left for fixing the poor pet design.
Maybe when the living story groups are burned out, as also the players will at certain time, Anet goes back to fixing the core mechanics of the game eg. ranger pet!
This is the right path Anet! Keep going :-)
I have been a loyal ranger since beta, now I finally see the light.
No one mention the use of lvl 80 transmuting stones with mf gear. I want my lvl 80 (fine) transmuting stones, all the gold, guild coms and laurels back! Thank you.
But happy Anet finally removed the gear mf. It’s the right path.

LOVE it all so far!
I wish the new map would stay for ever!
Good work Anet.
Can we please get a pet status bar above the pet’s command bar?
In battle, you have no information about your pet. If you want to see any kind of info about the pet, you have to find the pet and select it (click on pet). That is impossible in medium / large fights. Sometimes you can’t even find the pet!
If Anet just moves the pet’s status bar to the bottom of the screen, just above the pet’s command bar, you could see all the info all the time. No need to find and click on the pet.
See pics:
1: You have no idea how the pet is doing the fight.
2: After finding the pet, and got lucky to click on it, you get the info in top mid screen. (Clicking on the pet in fights with more foes / allies is impossible).
3: How it should be!
Not so difficult to code, but a tremendous help for us rangers!
Cheers
Actually, I would say RANGER is one of the most versatile profession. Ranger can be built to do everything – even as you go. You don’t even need to remake your trait tree. But you will NOT be the best that fills that specific role. Any other profession build will be better at that specific build, than ranger. But ranger can be all the builds.
cheers
The latest patch was the last drop for me. I have been a loyal ranger since beta, and all this time waited for improvements. But now, I don’t see any light at the end of the dark tunnel ………. at all!
I had saved a decent amount of gold to invest in my “new” Ranger. I was going to buy 2 sets of new gear (www & solo pve) but now I don’t even want to use 1 copper.
Why should I!?!?
I’m just glad I have an alt guardian at lvl 80. I guess the guardian is my main now.
It’s sad ……. just sad.
Always nice to have something new and fresh! Nice work :-)
Why is there no title for doing all the Jumping Puzzles?
I love JPs. It’s, imo, one of the most fun part of GW2. I do them solo and with guildies, always fun :-)
But I don’t understand why there’s no title for getting all the JPs!?
Not sure the leaked notes are correct or not, but if they are, we got kittened once again.
Pets got damage nerf even though they can’t hit moving targets.
The trait changes are nothing to get excited about. NONE of the messy traits / trait trees have been fixed.
Spirits still suck.
It’s all just a huge mess, and the game has been out almost 1 year now!
Unless Anet has something good hidden for us rangers, it’s going to be hard competing with other professions. I wonder how many viable builds rangers can have now?!?!?!
It’s going to be a tough challenge.
I send pet first to make sure path is clear :-)
If land and water pets are the same, The stacks from The trait should NOT reset when going from land to water or vice versa. Please fix this!

I was not able to finish the Mad King jp, but god I tried. And it was fun. And the best thing during Winter was the jp, this time I made it though :-)
I really hope there will be a dragon jp. It’s one of the most fun aspects of the events.
Just wanted to say that the Mystic forge skin is the best looking so far! Love it!
… and the tail coming up behind the trainers….. nice touch!
How can get the “troll cache” achievement? sounds fun :-)
Maybe a tiny dmg nerf is ok, if pets’ F2 skills were instant cast!
The pets’ F2 skills should be casted immediately at beginning of the animation not several seconds after. You use the skill for the present time, not for the future!!
I need my wolf’s fear NOW!!!! not when the foe has already killed me :-(
Send a Scout Hawk:
Activate the skill and then click an area of the mini-map to send the hawk. Several seconds later that area will become “revealed” allowing you to see red dots of enemy players, green dots of allied players on the map even though it’s beyond the normal range which you’d be able to do so.
I strongly support this!!!
Every skill should have a counter-skill. Every mechanism should have a counter-mechanism. Of course these should not be available to all professions (that would be just boring) but there should be professions with counter skills.
eg. Profession A has a skill/mechanism that can be countered by Profession B. Profession C has a skill/mechanism that can counter profession B, but can be countered by Profession A ……. and so on ……. (you get the picture!?)
This makes all professions wanted as they are needed to counter other professions.
And no one should feel safe! :-) ===> more fun
imo, give ranger’s pet a sense to track/see/reveal stealthed players and / or googles to engnineers that can do the very same.
I’m sure all of you sneaky-backstabbers / tail-between-your-legs-running-away-folks disagree, but a decent game should have skills AND counter-skills.
Let’s wait and see what Anet decides to do. Maybe the trait changes make up for it? Or maybe the pet’kitten-box gets bigger!?
I believe condition dmg past around 1200 / 1300 offer less contribution to the damage. But not 100% certain.
ahhhh, my holy guardian must have those wings! He earned them :-)
Greetings defenders of Tyria!
I was wondering what gear combination (armor/weapons/trinkets/jewels) give the most “effective health”.
I would like to get the most health / armor for a medium armor class (ranger). Damage is not important at all.
What combination of gear provide the most health and armor?
Cheers
Inspired by this chill control ranger post, I’ve made a new www build.
Pets: Owl & Alpine Wolf
Are there any rooms for improvements?
My “role” will be enemy controlling primary by chill (and cripple). I’m not interested in big damage numbers, but what decent alternatives are there?
If I want to be a tanky chill ranger, and let the others in group deal the damage, what gear should I use then?
(would Shaman or Apothecary be a decent alternative?)
The most important thing for me is to have 100% chill duration (eg. 60% chill duration + 40% condition duration) and survive as loong as possible.
(edited by awe extender.1908)
Thank you for the answer. Appreciated.
Now, I gotta go and remake the build, no need to have more than 100% condition duration!
Hi all
Are condition durations maxed at 100%?
Or can the durations go beyond 100%?
Eg. let’s say you have runes that give you a + 60% in burn or chill duration, and + 30% condition duration from traits, and finally + 40% condition duration from food. This sums to a total of (60% + 30% + 40%) = +130% condition duration.
So do you benefit from the whole +130% condition duration or is it maxed at +100%?
It’s not easy to know, because of all the bugs in tooltips. I hope some devs or someone with actual testing could shed some light on the matter.
Cheers
Hey folks,
Thanks for liking the whip I created (well, as much as a single designer creates anything that is). Currently the whip is not an item players can use. Thieves can steal a tentacle whip off of some creatures, but I don’t think it is something players can use.
I’ll try to keep in mind that there is interest in that weapon, and see if there’s not people I can talk to about adding more permanent solutions.
Whip should be RANGERS only!!!
(there are several posts on Ranger forum about whips……..)
Hi guys!
Are there any plans for new armor sets?
I’m considering buying the t3 chest (30g) ans the t3 legs (25g) and mix it with some t2 and some named pieces. A lovely mix set for my guardian.
But I’m not super rich, so I really don’t want to use 55g on armor and then after a short period of time, some new armor pops out!
What’s your advice?
Cheers!
None of them fits a guardian (i’m sure alot of you disagree though)!
But, omg!! It will be perfect for my norn female ranger. Or a necro or one of those cabbages!
I don’t agree. I don’t think it’s a bad idea with temporary content. It makes the game much more dynamic and fun. The extra fun factor exist only because of the short period of that special content. If all the now removed contents (halloween/wintersday and so on…) were still around, they all would have lost their affection value. No one would bother doing them (well maybe except the Mad king dungeon, that was just epic!)
My point is, that the temporary content makes the game more interesting.
Yes, you might miss the chance to do all the temporary contents due to lack of time or rl issues, but at least you know there will soon be more and new content in a short period of time. Maybe you get the time to get those!
