I have recently started to use GS in some fractals and dungeons, and Simply LOVE it! The evade is awesome. But currently my build is condition oriented so I don’t benefit so much, but nevertheless it’s a good alt weapon.
btw, could someone please make name tags and job titles? It would be awesome to know the crew!
Some tips for the Rangers out there:
- Greatsword #4 (block)
- Rampage As One
- Shared Anguish (WS III)
I’m sure other proffessions have similiar skills / traits that make the run rather painless.
(Who said Rangers can’t be AWESOME in groups?!?)
LEGEND……wait for it…..ARY!!!
It doesn’t matter anyway, just hit F3 after your pet has used his skill. The pets waste a lot of time in useless animation frames anyway, as soon as I get the buff I hit F1 or F3 depending on what I want the pet to do and cancel the rest of the wasted skill animation.
I really don’t like that the pet runs away to the target just to cast F2 when it is on “passive mode”. If the pet was on “attack mode” then it is ok the pet first runs to the target.
In pve it doesn’t matter. But in dungeons / fractals I want to get my buffs where I (and rest of the group) stand. When my pet runs away he will get killed (AoE) and I / we don’t get the buff. So pressing F3 after pets casts F2 means he is likely dead! Waste of time and pet!
There should be a new F-button: “stay and don’t you dare move!”
As you all know, our beloved pet dies in a nano second even thinking about AoE; why most pet-loving rangers keep the pet on “easy!” (passive mode) in dungeons and fractals.
So the only viable use of the pet on passive mode is its F2 skills. What I REALLY KITTEN hate is that every time you want to use F2, the clueless pet runs to the target and attacks!
Could someone PLEASE make the pet stand at its place and cast F2 without running around? That’s not too much asking, is it?
Why would I want the pet’s “mighty roar” so far away from my self (and rest of the group) that nobody gets the boon?
Why does my pet run away from ME when I desperately need the “regeneration”?
Condition damage just does not scale well compared to direct damage when you take in all the factors.
This is also my conclusion after trying alot of different builds. Condition damage needs a lot more time to deal the same amount of damage compared to perhaps one single hit / crit hit.
If you consider a raw power/prec/crit and a condition/duration build within the same profession, I’m pretty sure the raw power build will deal the most damage.
Maybe the condition damage is just there to “spice” things up? And not a real threat?
I don’t see a reason why condition damage isn’t under the same influence of precision and critical damage as raw power damage.
Are there technical / programming issues or is just Anet philosophy that condition should not crit?
Let’s say you have 25% critical chance and 20% critical damage. Why can’t the bleed (or any other condition) damage tick be increased by 20% for every 4th tick?
Or maybe for every 4th applied condition tick your malice was 20% stronger? Or 20 % longer duration?
I don’t know the final solution, but something needs to be done about condition damage. It is not as strong as raw power dmage and doesn’t benefit at all from neither precision nor critical damage.
They need to not only split gear but also the way Skills work and their stats. PvP vs PvE/WvW.
Yes warriors have the a lot of DPS and can tank quite well, however in PvP currently mainly useless, either cookie cutter noob 100b build, kill 2x in 5 seconds and die, or shout build to be able to remove conditions at a decent level. In PvE conditions are hardly of concern, so of course we become more dominant that way.
The problem as mentioned though is not nerfing the warrior, its buffing other classes and while doing this splitting PvP and PvE fully into two seperate stat systems. That will make balancing a lot easier.
Can’t Buff too much in PvE for Mob hp pools vs PvP player HP pools.
I stand corrected. Do as Obly suggest. Divide pve and pvp.
When a single profession can solo dungeons regardless of how skilled the player is (kudos to those players!) there is something wrong with the game and profession mechanics.
No one should be able to solo dungeons or high-end bosses, even if the player is god-like skilled. This is a clear sign, that the professions need some tweeking and balancing.
Sure, all professions have bugs and they have to be fixed. But some professions (ranger, engineer) need additional buffs to get in the same tier as the others.
I think Anet is afraid to nerf the warrior since (I guess) the major player base is warrior.
SERIOUSLY!?!?!? So your solution to something that needs some fixing is to completely remove it???
I truly hope you never consider a career in the army or health care:
Patient: “Dr! My leg hurts!”
Dr. Joe: “No problem, we just chop it off!”
Wounded soldier: “Captain, help!”
Captain Joe: “BANG” (deadly headshot) Now we are good!
Ok ok, jokes aside, I agree that those mentioned professions need a lot of attention from Anet. But that doesn’t mean they are not fun or not viable in groups.
In my opinion Anet must fix those professions and give the warrior a massive nerf.
Dungeons are not supposed to be done solo by any profession. When that is possible (even when the player is god-like skilled) it’s just something wrong with game / profession mechanics.
If you happen to be a Norn ranger with condition dmg build, use “Call Owl”. I think it’s awesome.
You get 2.769 bleed damage (range 1200, cooldown 30 sec.). ps. I have 1200 in condition dmg.
Actually, this is kind of sad as well: racial skills are better than Ranger profession skills.
I’m glad you got your account back again. It’s really nice to see that Anet takes time and effort for these kind of issues. Being hacked must be the worst that can happen to any player.
Good work Ms Gray and the rest of the Anet team!
Remember when Ranger shortbow didn’t have an animation glitch?
Congratulation, you have obviously encountered a skilled ranger that knew how to deal with a thief!
I bet he has been busting his kitten off since release to finally create and master a rare ranger build that your sneaky little thief couldn’t take down.
If you had the slightest idea how the ranger profession is, you would never suggest something like that. The ranger is a very easy profession to level but a pain in the kitten to master. It takes a lot of time (& gold) and effort with different builds and gear to finally find one decent build that is somehow viable in www / dungeons (pve solo can be done with every profession and builds). Now, this hard work and loyalty (in contrast to those who re-rolled a warrior / thief) have finally paid off for that ranger you couldn’t kill with your stealth-backstabbing-run away-thief.
You could not get close to the ranger so that means the ranger is OP and needs some balance? LOL
Maybe you should try to make a new build?
btw. I came across few warriors, guardians, elementalists, necromancers, engineers, mesmers and thieves I couldn’t kill. NERF them all, they are OP!
I’ll leave that here..oh and you’re welcome
What build and gear do you use?
I really don’t believe it would cause any balance issues at all. Worst case scenario, Ranger would (almost) get in the same tier as the other OP professions.
The real issue is that Ranger lack decent build diversity. Also there has to be some kind of synergy between traits and skills. In GW1 traps were in the Wilderness Survival tree. I don’t see a reason why they changed that.
Uncategorized Fractal (Harpies platform):
- Greatsword is a must. Use block (#4) to keep the arrows and bolts away.
- Also if you have 10 p in WS you have to use Shared Anguish (III). Again keeps the bolts away from you.
So this means you should not hit “Sick’em” and then F2? Because you cancel the “Sick’em”.
But can you use eg. jag’s F2 and then hit “Sick’em”? Do the bonuses add at all?
So, uh, what happens when someone decides to crash your carefully orchestrated set of rules?
There are much better, less traveled places in WvW to set up duels. Like out in the middle of a field somewhere.
I honestly don’t see the allure myself, but I would imagine it would be as easy as getting in a party and dropping a personal waypoint on the map.
Well, it’s a game after all :-) People do what they feel like. But I just thought it could be fun!
EB JP is easy and fast to access.
Maybe Anet make a Duell feature some day.
My human Engineer.
She makes things explode.
I dig women who make things explode. And she has big guns.
“guns” blink blink!
I would LOVE to be there! But I’m like 7821 kilometers (4859 miles) away. It’s a 14 hour trip by air.
Those of you going, take some pics and share them here.
Greetings defenders of Tyria
Since we officially lack the option of duelling ingame, let us all make the starting area of Eternal Battlegrounds Jumping Puzzle the unofficial Duelling area!
A lot of players do this already but I thought we should make it known for all players.
There should be some rules:
- The starting area in EB JP should be a non-fighting area, except for duelling
- All duelling should be done in the EB JP starting area.
- No one should help / interact with the duellers. (stand by and enjoy the show!)
- Both duellers must confirm the duell before the fight starts.
- You can start a duell by inviting enemy to party (select whoever you would like to duell and press p)
- Make a countdown.
- Fight for the honor to death!
- The winner may show some dance skills!
- Winner must leave the area so the defeated player can be realived by allies.
- Have fun!
Spread the word! Let all of Tyria know about this :-)
If you have suggestion, please do share!
Well, the 28th January updates didn’t do anything about the pet AoE issue. Maybe we get some love on 26th February?
I once saw a necro in LA with Baby Quag back pack. Now, that is SCARY and CREEPY.
I actually love to have pet traits spread around in all of the trees. It gives you opportunities to strengthen the pet regardless of your build. We are after all a pet oriented profession, even though the pet lacks proper AI and AoE defense!
But I agree, many of the Pet traits available in BM are actually not that viable and they could definitely be improved. Actually many of the pet traits outside BM are, imo, much better than those found in BM.
I don’t know if this has been reported before or not. It must be some kind of bug:
I had axe/axe on 2nd weapon swap and Rifle on 1st weapon swap. When I put a warhorn on off-hand 1st weapon set, I got axe weapon skills (1, 2, 3, and F1) and warhorn (4, 5)!
In the Hero panel, you could see the main-hand box on 1st weapon swap being empty but I still had axe skills.
I forgot to check stats, but it might be the same stats as the other two axes (I have only 2 axes).
It is not difficult at all!
Target, Target Target! You all have to target the assassin as soon as he spawns!
And stay away from Mag.
Btw. if you are ranger, “Piercing Arrows” trait is god sent! Because of the high number of foes, you have no chance to hit the assassin unless you use Piercing Arrows. (ofc if you use bow, that is!)
(edited by awe extender.1908)
Actually I haven’t seen ranger/ bear bots in a looong time! GOOD work Anet!
Apparently, the new bots are teleportation types.
It’s good initiative though, maybe we could do a ranger Orr run /farming on weekly / daily basis??
LOL
You will all be reported as bots!!!
Greetings fellow rangers!
Imagine all traits were open for you to choose regardless of trait tree.
Name your favorite 8 traits:
Piercing Arrows
Signet of the Beastmaster
Trapper’s Expertise
Trap Potency
Off-Hand Training
Concentration Training
Mighty Swap
Compassion training
Ranger is awesome and fun for pve solo / farming.
I can understand why some pug groups are forced to dissolve at low fractal levels. They might not know the system yet and need experience. I respect that and try to teach them. Those who doesn’t listen though must be kicked. If you don’t know what to do, at least try to listen to the more experienced players. NO excuse!
But what I don’t understand is that some pugs at even level 10 still doesn’t know what to do!!! How could they get to level 10 and still have no idea how to do the fractals?!?
There are a lot of awesome written guides and videos to show you the way! Use them guys!.
If anything, ranger needs buffs.
The ranger is a fun and strong solo pve profession.
You can also contribute in dungeons but, again if you want to compare numbers, then stay away from the ranger.
When the pets, spirits and traits eventually get the needed fixes, the ranger will be at the same level as the other professions. But as it is now, ranger is really fun for pve solo.
This one that you’re working on.. I suspect you cannot talk much about it, but can you say whether it will be for a currently existing zone or for an as-of-yet unannounced zone? Is it themed for a specific holiday, or is it more general purpose?
Everything about it is brand new. I mean… everything. So it’s going to take a while. Give it a couple months.
I’m really looking forward to this new JP ( and the new map?)
Keep up the good work!
I’m a norn condition trapper and never leave Hoelbrak without my axe + torch and shortbow.
imo, axe is better than sword cause you kan still keep the distance and kite around traps.
I wouldn’s say it would be a pretty OP build, but make more build diversity and perhaps finally reaching the same level as other “OP” classses.
If Anet doesn’t want to put the trap traits in WS ( as they were originally in GW1) they should at least swap prowess (critical damage) in skirmishing with malice (condition damage). So we could get some decent synergy between trap traits and condition damage.
ps. imo, ranger pets should have 30 p in BM as default :-) but that’s another story :-)
I don’t know if it’s me making wrong calculations, but it seems to me that ascended gear are not always the better option for certain builds.
The lack of optional trinket jewel choice on Ascended make them locked in certain stats that may not be the best for your build.
My concern is specially on the lack of Valkyrie – Valkyrie gear. Why are there no Ascended Valkyrie – Valkyrie?
EG.
Only trinkets are manipulated.
With all exotic trinkets I can get:
Power: 508
Prec: 219
Crit dmg%: 35
Toughness: 16
Vitality: 127
But with Ascended:
Power: 500
Prec: 336
Crit dmg%: 36
Toughness: 0
Vitality: 0
Sure, you get more precision but 127 less vitality (that’s ca. 1200 difference in health!)
I could use Soldier – Soldier ascended rings.:
Power: 500
Prec: 200
Crit dmg%: 20
Toughness: 136
Vitality: 136
Now I have almost the same vitality as exotics but my crit dmg fell with 15%!
My point is that your build options are limited and build diversity is harder to obtain.
I like the dailies.
Usually they are completed without paying any special attention. All the tasks are things you do in the game anyway. I don’t understand why some people complain about the dailies?!!?
I will remind this to Anet devs every monday. Hopefully it will find its way to their “to-do list”.
I keep it short:
Either make pets immune to all incoming AoE damage, or make it in a way that pets only get AoE damage when the player gets AoE damage.
If the player gets damage from AoE, the pet could also get the same or 50% of that damage migrated to it. This means if the player is skilled, and dodges /evades the AoE, the pet gets no damage. But if you are not a skilled player and just keep getting AoE damage, you will be punished by loosing your pet.
What do you think, my fellow rangers?
ps. a general buff to pets’ health is more than wellcome!
Because of poorly designed trait tree, and even worse pet AI, the only viable build in groups, is a condition trapper. (imo)
A warrior can have around 30000 health and 2000 power without all of those might signs / banners. No way a ranger can match that. Thats why ranger needs some love from the devs.
Btw. I know that to have success in dungeons / www it’s not always about numbers on the paper, but it surely wouldn’t harm to balance the numbers a little!
Awesome initiative!
Anet should make kicking allowed when at least 3/5 agree.
As it is now, 2/5 is just not right.
I’m not taking any side here, because I don’t know the whole story, and people usually tend to make their own case as the TRUTH. But it’s funny, that if the kicked players were so “noob” and bad at fractals why did the kickers keep playing with them? And all the way to Maw? You, the kickers, could simply leave earlier or kick earlier!?!?
And if they were bad players, you all still managed to get to final boss anyway! Why kick there?
It sounds like some childish immature kids.

NO.
No to raising level cap.
Yes to more lvl 80 maps without risens.
Yes to more skills and traits.
Don’t worry. Those maps change every week. Maybe next week the missing vistas will be in your home map.
