it’s really late otherwise would ve typed more but this build is all over the place just look up a good condition build with corrupt boon and epidemic mark of blood is good go for rune of earth so you can make a dodge combo switch weapon stack dots switch to staff mark of blood dodge again.. that way you can stack tons of dots in a short armount of time

try the combo on the training dummie im not a big condition build guy but i used staff 2 dodge switch weapon to sceptre in vicinity of target sceptre 2 then 5 then spam 1 that should rack you up quite a few dots in a short time.. im 100% sure theres a better rotation for it tho.. like i said not a big fan of conditions here.

been moad back to back 5 times in 1 tournament game.. 2 times in less then 30 seconds. mesmers know the flaw all too well they know if they just moa you that you pose no threat at all for the comming moments and you are basicly a kittened shrimp..

needless to say i specced out of mm after thatt experience and never looked back.. it can work but not with water destroying your pets moa destroying your pets warriors bladetrail destroying your pets utility skills destroyed by pets lich form destroys pets plague form destroys pets pets that destroy themself pets that get destroyed by lightningstrike and flameblast aoe exploits

when i played mm i sometiems saw strange damage that obviously didnt belong to me.. then i looked over my shoulder and i saw it was the pet..

a pet.. it was alive.. needless to say 5 sec later i was moad and it was destroyed.

Any ability that can be interrupted by CC...

it actually works on life transfer in deathshroud too.. but yea.. even then its hardly worth it altho 400 toughness sounds nice on paper the reality is that for a glass cannon that mostly uses axe that 400 toughness while he channels isnt gonna make that much of a difference in ds you get knocked around like a ragdoll if you dont have the 30 soul reaping trait.. so might be nice for that.. an extra layer of cloth for your ratty crowd control me coat.

it could be half usefull for a support necromancer but it has to compete with greater marks and staff skill % cooldown.. so its basicly useless for everyone like a lot of our traits..

to counter the potential lethal burst of necromancers they put a cast time on everything.

This my friends is called balance.

Imagine a class that has no cast times and could just spam every burst with just the
touch of a button that would be..

this thread should be on page 1 for several days imo devs should see this video and your reasoning behind it.. i don’t think its QQ at all everything you said makes sense espcially the part with the shark tank where new players get tossed into and that losing constantly is very demotivating and unrewarding for the pug groups in tpvp.

and the basic set up is indeed mesmer guardian and in 90% of the cases its an elementalist with a staff..

sigh seriously this is getting out of hand fast any decent guild team is stacking air and flameburst runes now for insane burst effects..

life siphon does scale with healing power but it doesnt scale a lot..if you don’t believe me get a cleric neckie and equip it you ll see it ups the siphon by 35+ or so..

they should be careful with moves like siphon tho becaue dagger is already the strongest weapon a necro has.. on my support necro it heals 9×418 (380+38)3762? as a free thing aint that bad for something that does a bit of damage also if they start giving power necros 500×9 heals every 16 seconds wich can be reduced with dagger skill 15% off and wich at the same time can hit for up to 4k damage on the enemy things might becomes unbalanced quick..

the invisible backstab combo makes even guardians die !
The moment you see them its borderline daytime robbery theft,
what can you do on the ground when your dignity has left.

Oh and when you survived the backstab its heartseeker time,
assasin signet nerf was a secret buff for this heinous crime.
To finish someone off they thought we can’t make it that hard
I got an idea someone said the 1 and 2 button are not that far apart !

spamming deathblossem gives 6 sec evade a 100% ?
Oh deatblossom atracts thiefs as bear is to honey,
spamming this 5 times gives even necros a run for their
money.

and when you complain about burst they yell in unison call,
our burst damage is fine,you just need more toughness is all.
But believe me it’s just a matter of time so don’t become frantic,
when the nerfbat hits your insane burst across the atlantic.

i think the realy sucky thing about our 30 soul reaping trait stability it that it doesnt scale with boon duration at all its just static.. it would be actually pretty nice to have 4 or 5 seconds of stability every 10 seconds.

staff is by far the greatest weapon that we have it got a blast finisher and and and aoe frost and poison and can heal your teammates and aoe fear. it should never be a main weapon unless your a super support build that does nothing but throw out mark of bloods on people give them area retaliation iwith wells and deliver area weakness to the burst dangers.. but yea.. how many necros play like that..

im a heavy power necro but i always got my staff out in the start of the battle its one of the few defensive counter measures i have vs the burst people espcially in the start with 0 lf.

the build i run is just the run of a mill 30-0-10-0-30 power focused with berserker amulet build the runes in the weapons are 5% crit 5% force on both to make the comparison more fair the runes in my armor are also the same there the runes of the centaur wich doesnt favor any of those 2 weapons and none of the 2 comparison had the lightning strike trigger.

its just a basic fair comparison with a very popular power focused build for necromancers. i think if you get the crit higher the axe might get on ahead.. but i like my stability it helps with stomping wich is very vital for a glass cannon power necromancer.

but lets say for argument sake they are equal wich i think they arent but ok for arguments sake..for power builds..

they shouldn’t be equal in dps because one has a 600 and one has a 900 range one is a dot stacking weapon while the other should be a power weapon. it’s jut not fair for the power build necro out there the axe should do more damage then what it does right now. even the grandmaster trait wich increases its damage by what.. 10% doesnt justify going full out axe if you compare it with the dagger.

the 600 range to me and probably to a lot of people is just as good as 150 range.. 600 makes kiting just incredible hard.. there so many gap closers in that 600 range

at 900 range you can see those at least comming the 600 range makes it just a lot harder to react in time their so fast in your face..

and yes axe got retaliation and cripple but honestly retaliation in a glass cannon world where thiefs backstab you for 10k+cnd 5k steal mug 4k+ whirlwind hits you for 3 times for 8k+heartseeker hits for 4k+ and a lot higher that 340 damage you reflect back isnt gonna scare many of them .. and every class got some ranged potential retaliation still doesnt justify the axe as a great power weapon. i think retaliation is nice for a toughness build /vit build a build that can take some hits but not in a glass cannon world..

in a glass cannon world you don’t want people to hit you at all because with sub 2k armor their burst is gonna hurt a lot.

I think the axe shouldnt even be close to the sceptre as it stands now. axe range should be increased to 900 or the damage needs to be 20% higher as it is right now for the risk vs reward rule.. 600 range is good but at least makes it have more reward on a power spec then the 900 sceptre espcially since its a power weapon..

I did exactly the same thing ascii did with sceptre vs axe and my findings are a lot different then his..

my youtube video :

granted i tested with both pvp mistitems since i dont have any exotics i only pvp.. dont pve..

both items had :

5% crit
5% damage runes

Axe time with start 3 build up 1 then 2 then 1 to finish it off :

16.15

Sceptre time with start 2 then spam 1 then eventually 3 and spam 1 to death

13.24 (notice the 1072 and 1121 auto atk crit compared to the axe 875 crit)

sceptre wins in my case

and this is exactly how it feels to me in game too in spvp and tpvp the sceptre jsut pulls ahead + it has the benefit of the poison + bleed and the 300 increase in range makes it a much safer alternative to the axe and its 600 range.

i personally never saw any reason for the axe its a horrible weapon in spvp and tpvp i cant comment on wvwww tho.. staff is great for defense sceptre good for stacking dots on condition build and if you hate staff for power pretty decent for power builds too, dagger great for power builds.. and axe.. axe is just lagging behind it all and is by some overrated imo but ah well what can you say..?!

seems too fundamental, minions attacking, to consider that it is “working as intended” no?

Also, gamefreak, there probably have been a million threads about this particular issue, but the thread you mentioned is about jagged horrors being terrible in general, not minions simple failing to attack

they should just delete the bone horrors from this game all together imo.. cant remember how many times these things keep you in combat while you waiting for a regen..its such a faulty mechanic..

some of the things we consider bugs are working as intended. I never heared a dev saying anything about faulty ai for minions so i guess thats just working as intended also. i wouldn’t hold your breath for a fix.

op is right we should be able to hide under our pets when we are downed like rangers making minions 5x the size would force peopel to first cut those down before they get to us wich would make sense since every minion would be happy to trade his life for yours..

every time you hit 15 blood trait have to spec 15 into bloodmagicfor this
everytime you crit cost a trait
minions hit cost a trait also forces you into mm road with all its shortcommings
siphon effectiveness by 50% also a trait
well siphon hp everytime they pulse also cost a trait racking up 4 needed traits to get this set up where only 3 is possible as far as i know off..

the fact is that its not enough by a longshot the hp per hit and the minions hp per hit are near neglectable with stuf hitting you for 1k and the massive burst that can lead up to 10k+ on a constant basis. the well siphon is broken i mean 21 hp per pulse.. seriously.. and thats a grandmaster trait thats just sad imo. the only way you can get some decnt healing from a necromancer is to go full support and use bloodmark well of blood and reapers touch and this is with a cleric necklace locking you out of any dps /burst possible.

thief might have better health regen but we got atrition once we got a thief locked down there’s absolutly no way they can get away from us. it’s not like they have shadowstep or bow 1800 range teleports it just takes a press of a f1 button and the number 2 key and we can close that gap in no time.

Hey guys I have been playing a necro for some time and had decide to use a d/d build for my playstyle. The thing is though is that I’m not sure if its the best one I can use and I’m trying to find a build which let me play efficiently.

Right now this is the build I’m currently using and is focus mostly on bleeding and dealing damage, I use the Axe/focus to apply vulnerability to increase my damage even more.

Any tips to help a newbie out?

not a big fan of d d build myself here the number 5 just irks me the 4 got potential tho but i like my focus with my dagger best.

looking at your traits i would suggest dropping bloodmagic the hp you get back from those traits are borderline neglectable if youre serious about spectral go for soul reaping first trait 20% of spectral skills . also i reckon this is a power buiuld looking at the stats 2 hemo trait in curses is not worth it 10 spinal shivers spite seems bugged first trait would be better to go might/blast oh now i see you barely get any spectral skills also so spectral atunement seems kinda a wasted trait.. 5 and 3 seems good alternatives for curses on a melee power build focusing on dagger dagger

get more spectral skills and some soul reaping and you should be set with this build..

its the whole well so the initial + the ticks its pretty important for a support necro to take that trait it also triggers on signet of undeath. it still doesnt warrent taking runes f mercy tho imo..

It’s a really good trait for a Support Necro. It’s a kitten shame it’s on the same tier as Life Transfer healing allies because in my current gear set-up (Full Cleric exotics except the weapons which are rares with 6/6 Runes of Water) that’s nearly a 3000 HP heal to allies in the area every 32 seconds (Took Path of Midnight for my support build as well for this reason). That’s nothing to sneeze at.

So I guess you have to use your head on this one somewhat and think: do you want more active healing at your command, or do you want an extra safety net upon rallying allies?

i like the safety net idea myself a lot altho im full healing spec tpvp spvp my wells tick for 701 i got mark of revival to secure my resses altho its anything but fail proof. i run a 10 death 30 blood 30 soul reaping build here myself wich i think really got potential for a full support build

good secure resses
lots of healing
well on res and mark of revival and signet of undeath makes for
some spectacular resses at times
and got both transfusion and ritual of life here
and stabiity to secure stomps

it takes lots of practice to master the build tho..

On paper the idea of a Necro being able to out last and out strategy other classes sounds great. Unfortunately however, this is our reality. Before we get a chance to literally get off a single scepter swing we’re dead.

yep thats the reality a lot of necromancers see a thief can blink out engange and re engage constantly untill our cooldowns are all gone and they got a sitting duck in front of them. dark pact is awesome to catch a thief.. 1 sec casting time is plenty of time vs a good thief.

vs any half good thief your basicly forced to use multiple key including elite abilities to get him of your back and even then he got multiple opertunities to flee unhindered the moment the fight goes badly if we try to flee it won’t be that pretty..

oh and the only class that can’t run from us are guardians .. but seriously a half decent guardian who facerolls his keyboard can last forever vs a necromancer we cant transform there boons relaible unless we go well specced and they just heal or bump knockback away from them if we try to melee them..

a warrior can run away from us too they have swiftnes and if gs.. wich 80% of em are they can number 5 and use bull rush and whirlwind to get out of our vicinity if they have too fast.

You ever saw one of those combat fly movies like top gun or star wars. dark path feels exactly like that.. you’re the enemy of one of the lead character and you fire off a missile and somehow it never reaches its goal..

it’s not just meant to be, the moment they start to move the missile wich is packed with explosives and very heavy is to clunky to track down the slightest movement from it’s path.. and blows up in some kind of meteorite or other useless obstacle.. forcing you to switch to a staf and chillbains to get close or the 1.25 sec cast spinal shivers..

seriously 1.25 sec cast is borderline channel ability imo just remove the boons it takes off and shorten the casttime by 50%..

ps. fix the kitten axe

you know what it is not only does the staf do more damage but so does the sceptre on a power build.. just switch to sceptre and see the 1k+ on 900 range pile up i seriously went sceptre for a while because i couldnt stand the axe anymore better 1k + damage and tiny bleed then 700 damage annoying twirling sound and stupid 3k channel for 3 seconds that hits half the time because enemy went ouf of range again..

i tried to like it also i really tried but to me it seems near impossible to kite a half decent warrior or any melee class with it the 600 range means instant death the moment you make a mistake.. at least with dagger you can choose the moment you want to attack..

theres nothing wrong with the atributes. actually it benefits necros a bit more then the other professions condition duration is pretty valuable even on a power necro vuln/freeze dark pact/poison i think fear too are all based on condition duration

i have to admit tho the curses trait kinda blows but even on a full power specced necro you can get 600 condition damage+ with blood is power running and 30 into curses and some might stacking this can go up to 700+ so its not all bad just grab a staff and throw some bleeds from 1200 range bfore going into battle.

id love the changes you came up with tho.. but they will never get along with that.. that would make necros actually pretty powerful.

it only goes for the number 6 real heal skill i got a support necro having it go off from every healing skill you got would be insanely overpowered.. 10 ticks x5 sec regen 50 second regen on a well of blood ? meh if only

if i can give you a tip ditch the set it aint that great i like to run with 3monk 3 water wich gives 30% increase in boon duration wich goes for retaliation/stability from lich/regen and +10 to healing.. much better investment then that junk set..

oh and tested the set it does work it gives 5 sec regen like its supposed too.

In the same boat as you never really understood it also. the range is horrible the number 2 needs a 3 seconds channel to do 3k.. to 4 maybe 5 if youre full berserker amulet glasscannon spec.. 3 seconds 4k damage wich probably gets evaded 60% of the time.. if only the damage would be the damage that actually shows.. 9x 1700+ then it would be actually worth using..

the number 3 is it saving grace retaliation is nice especially if it hits multiple enemies you can basicly keep it up constantly on a boonspec.. but yea..

Yeah I ran the same thing for a little bit, its ok.

I stopped running MM due to Moa and good eng/eles even rangers just killing my pets quickly and safely.

It is good against melee not as good as wells tho.

kinda agree with this been experiminting with combos a lot lately too and the cost of bone minions wells and multiple blast finishers to get that retaliation.. and then 5 sec later being finished because of ranged spam all your pets disabled moa or 10k backstabs/bleed spam from multiple scources elementalist burst.

. a lot of the damage in this game seems to be easy high and ranged

So this is the only reply we can get from a dev not a yes we are looking at the necromancer and actually working on it. Just a general we look at every class reply I mean at least rangers got reassurance that stuff was being worked on for them. I swear its like the only thing we hear in the necro forums are attempts to keep people waiting while nothing ever happens.

they probably are waiting untill we can join the rank of the necromancer army ourself.

Given the paucity of communication from the Devs, and given that the necromancers that frequent this forum have pointed out the problems with our current state and identified every bug and downside to the class, I propose we, the necromancer community, boycott the necromancer section of the forums. There is simply nothing left to say until such time as bug fixes are implemented or a developer chooses to actually contribute to the community discussion. I for one, will withdraw from commenting in this forum until one of the above happens. Will it change anything? likely not, nor do I require you to care what I have to say. A forum is a place to express oneself about the game, and I have nothing constructive to add.

I have read practically every post, contributed where I could, transitioned from excitement about the class, to frustration with the limitations and bugs, to increased frustration due to limited dev communication and outright veiled insults , to anger, and now calm. I have dealt with the possibility that the devs do not agree with their community and potentially have no fixes planned.

Thus, I bid you good day, good evening, and a well intentioned good bye, until such time as we see changes. Wish you all the best of luck.

How important are the pets for Necro?

not all pets are useless just 2 of em i would say

boneminion gives you 2 blast finishers and a lill burst
flesh wurm is stunbreaker and last ace
flesh golem good charge

pet spec is doable its just a lill hard and unforgiving in pvp.

Yeah i was already using the other heal. WoB to heal the pets after combat and before aoe lifedrain with DS. Im also using Ogre runes over Divinity. Also using Life Leech over crit sigil.

Shadowfiend actually does nice damage and attacks quickly so i wanted to keep that one. The stupid Bone Fiend is ranged but seems to do a pbaoe immobilize, which you even need to cast for. Spectral Grasp would be even more awesome and probably staple if it wasnt so buggy.

Gonna try your suggestions out. Havent looked at the signets much yet. Thanks a lot!

Also for fun i’ll try a Spectral Wall / Explode Bone minions for extra aoe burst / double chaos armor if somebodies getting kitteny. I think the Wall fits really well in the burst combo as it has the same cd as reapers mark, gives you protection right when its dangerous, and adds another 10 stacks vulnerability on your targets. Bone Minions same cooldown as Chillblains which makes em easy to hit and also with the Hydromancy sigil. But im just rambling now. I’ll just try everything ^^

ALso rustmonster attacks 2 times making it siphon hp per attack wich is also a minor perk.

That trait is a static amount per hit? So bone minions would only give 2 small heals when you explode them?

yea i think its static for every hit you gain a certain hp back for every atk its a static 79 hp wich in the long run probably isnt worth it.. but still 3x better then the 15 trait haha. i dunno why i like itthat much its not that great tbh there many better options out there i guess im just a sucker for lill green numbers

It seems to me you think a lot about this stuf also the things you say there make a lot of sense. i like the spectral wall grasp combo a lot i show that off in another movie too but im not that really satisfied with that movie because its to 1 dimensional hardly any weapon switching.. def look into signets im running a pure support build and with the signet of undeath its fun to bring up people like that hehe ^^ the passive life force is a welcome adition too because i barely make any life force myself on the support build.

the chaos armor combo i tried that too for a bit but it seem so short to me it would be interesting to see that in a movie tho

and yea try everything try the most weird builds thats the beauty of this game you can make almost anything work and the posibilities are endless

and yea def if you want to throw out a monster the bonefiend has to go haha

Hey dude i’m new at Necro and so glad you posted this. I’ve been trying different builds and i feel you hit the dmg/survive balance pretty well! Im having a blast, already had my first 2v1 after only a few games. I’ve had so much fun with Flesh Golem and the Wurm.

My only gripe are the other 2 pets, and the weakness of this build in Khylo. Its hard to replace these 2 pets without making half of the trait build useless. Have you ever tried removing one of these for spectral walk? Or even spectral grasp or wall?

Anyway thanks again. Love how the build scales with skill even though some of the well known facerollers are rather annoying to lose to with this one. Luckily i know that facerolling people back is too boring for me. The movie was cool too. Thumbs up.

It gives me great pleasure that you enjoyed the video and trying the build out ! You know i felt exactly the way you do about the build its very well balanced you got good hp lots of toughness excellent power and the ability to burst with your pets and your weapons with 5% damage and crit on your weapon the toughnes and the hp also makes it very forgiven to make mistakes on a glasscannon build mistakes = death this build can last if i might suggest something tho def take wob or consume conditions the healing pet does kinda blow hehe.

And yea the shadowpet and the bonefiend i call it a rustmonster myself feel def weaker then the other 2 pets. they do have a saving grace tho you can use the rust monster for stun lock and the shadowpet i found out today can teleport on higher locations too so for intance on the forest map if a ranger is ranging from up top you can send your shadowpet to him to annoy him ^^. ALso rustmonster attacks 2 times making it siphon hp per attack wich is also a minor perk.

spectral wall I wouldnt advise spectral walk on the other hand on one hand thats a minor thing about this build is the speed it doesnt have any so i can understand you would consider spectral walk i don’t think its a bad choice but you will sacrifice dps for a speedbuff the stun breaker you already have with a wurm. another good option would be a signet since you have high spite you can actually take 20% off signets so 1 or 2 signets wouldnt be a bad choice spite to compensate for dps loss or undead to regain lifeforce in combat both are good imo.

if i had to get rid of a pet i would say the bonefiend tho his immobilize is a bit erratic imo shadowfiend can be a good one to open on a rogue whos about to open on you since haunt got a range of 1200 now that i think of it.. it can be a pretty good assault pet if you use it as an opener.

edit oh and spectrap grasp is a decent choice since you lack the speed to come to them its always good for them to come to you to finish the job i love spectral grasp

your right both are better then the lame pet… i really wanted to make a pet video tho but yea wob and consume condition are superiour abilities i def agree with that. they don’t only heal better and are more multi purposed but they dont have to activate it twice. im playing a support healing specced necro now with pets and as healing ability well of blood once you see the 700+ ticks for 10 seconds you forget all about the abysmal healing pet

Glad to see you made another video barti! Although I must admit, you really took me by surprise when I saw the minions… they really do add a lot of sustained damage to a tankier character, when they’re not running around in circles =P.

It’s unfortunate to hear that this will be your last video for a while. I’ve only made a couple short videos in the past, so I can only begin to imagine the amount of time it takes to edit all of the video/audio. But I am glad to hear that you’ll be continuing to try out new builds… hopefully your videos have shed some light on the different and less commonly explored builds (spectral and minion centric), and will/have inspire(d) more necromancers to give them a shot!

Edit: Oh, and needless to say, +1 to the good music and creative story.

thanks a lot for the kind words ! You teached me a lot with your informative pms. its exactly like you said staf really is a great weapon it just need some practice to incorparate it with dagger the greater marks make a really big difference too. reapers protection is also a very interesting trait.

Oh the editing and story is not that hard what’s more hard is the fact that i pug a lot and sometimes i got great footage 1 on 1 and then bam you got 2 other guildies on your neck in no time to the rescue and the footage becomes instantly useless or the seemingly never ending 4 vs 5 and the whole communication vs pug thing really gets tiring after a bit.

It would be awesome if my movies did shed some light for some necromancers that would honestly make my day !

I think the video was OK. My only gripe was that the times I saw you use putrid mark you didn’t use it at a time where it gave a blast finisher combo or it gave the enemy the pile of conditions on you, which I think is more valuable than the straight damage.

i agree its a trade off tho.. there times where i did unload the conditions to the other person tho with certain professions i tend to keep the putrid mark such as necromancers and thiefs in general sometimes against engineers too vs other profession i like the damage boost. i can only use 1 combo in this set up tho and thats the 3 – 4 combo with staff and a I pug everything that also makes making videos a lot harder and interaction between others almost impossible.
