If you read the fake patch notes in context, you would realize two things:
1. Gaile Grey, the person who reads through all of the forums, posted the thread
2. Like some of the other updates, it was poking fun at things people say in those respective class forums

Sometimes, we like to say that our profession must be a bug because x part of it (or all of it) is terrible, and Gaile is just giving a shout out to the current misfit class. It can taken as a sign that Warrior buffs are on the horizon (That balance team hasn’t been in hibernation for the past 3 months) if viewed with optimism.

I did infact read the fake patch notes and i understand fully the what the intention / context is.

1. If Gaile Grey reads through “all” of the forums, how come we haven’t seen or heard from her or any developer for the past 7/ 8 months in regards to warriors current balance or….anything warrior related for that matter. There’s literally been 100’s of posts with suggestions / feedback with 0 exchange from the developers.

2. Yeah they took a jab at the other professions, (apart from ranger) but in regards to the warrior joke, they literally made fun of the classes balance issues in ranked pvp which is totally tasteless in the eyes of the people who play the class on a high level / take the class seriously. Whereas with the other professions they made a joke about how silly the idea would be if they had x and did x.

This means 2 things really:

1. They understand how badly warrior is currently balanced and made a joke about their own shortcomings with the class.
2. They threw out a joke without the intention of hitting home on said shortcomings.

I really hope that it’s not the latter, which would suggest that they’re still out of touch after all this time with their own game. And even if the joke was a intended as a laugh at themselves, is that appropriate? given how many people have quit due to these factors and more….

Honestly im not the type to whine and btch on the forums but it seriously urks people i know and myself that they seem to take these issues not very seriously.

#enhanceyourcalmjohnspartan

It’s true that Gaile isn’t a developer and i by no means hold her responsible for the current balance state.. but her job title is displayed as a “ArenaNet Communications Manager” which implies, like you said, that she relays information / “points things out to the developers”…now if this is true and Gaile and the devs actually spend the time to troll through the forums and share relevant information between themselves, how come we’ve received 0 information / confirmation that they’re even aware of the current game state. Take Eviscerate for example…the skill has been bugged to land hits through any skill that has an evade frame and has been this way for almost 2 weeks with no confirmation that they’re even aware of it.

So you tell me if ArenaNet communication is actually being done here.

Why is there no Anti-Condi stat?

in Warrior

Posted by: bearshaman.3421

bearshaman.3421

Imho, it’s because condi isn’t that strong. In the vast majority of classes, the meta build is a power build, despite toughness and condi not having what you are proposing. There’s a reason for that. I am not a strong number-crunchy guy when it comes to that stuff, but it’s really hard to burst with condi, but it is practically cake to do with most professions with power. And from what I’ve observed, most of pvp comes down to getting off that burst to knock the other guy to downed.

Edit: I’m specifically talking about condi damage btw, since that is what the stat is for. The condi damage stat has no effect on non-damaging conditions, like vulnerability. Those conditions aren’t stat dependent at all, and thus I’m leaving them out of consideration (since your question was based on the power/toughness model.)

sure, core ranger could use a few tweaks and a lot of bugfixes but it is in no way, shape or form dead.

the same way we couldn’t force players to believe that core ranger was worth taking pre-HoT you’re going to have just as hard of a time making ppl believe that ranger is worth anything without Druid.

what’s dead is my patience with people on forums that don’t understand their class.

I second all of this. I also want to point out that you can spend an hour a day and earn 50-75 gold (craft and sell all 4 ascended mats, and run all 3 tier daily fractals), and then enjoy the rest of your time doing whatever you like, like LS or maguuma content or working on achievements. If you decide you want gold, its easy to acquire.

One caveat on this: the gold amount made assumes you have the necessary materials already and don’t have to buy them from the auction house. Last I checked, you won’t make money if you have to purchase mats for ascended materials on any except MAYBE deldrimor steel.

daily fractals are awesome.

You do, even if you have to buy the mats. I dont even buy very many mats, and I never farm. I get a ton of mithril and silk from salvaging things, and I pick up various other woods and leathers and cloths as I go, not to mention ectos. I come out probably 5g profit per item, every day, and I never farm the mats. I just use what I get in ordinary play

When I say farming, I should have said “procuring them any way other than buying from the TP”. Apologies.

I was mathing it out at one point, and right after HoT dropped you could make a good amount this way, however once you’ve burned through what you have and have to start buying all the mats from the TP to keep going, the cost benefit analysis made this a zero sum game (as of about a month or two ago, that may have changed since then).

Yeah if youre logging in and doing nothing but crafting 4 things and leaving again. I do Tequatl every morning, salvage the trash I get, BOOM silk, leathers, ectos. Do a mission or two, or some SW, or whatever you fancy, and silk and leathers fall from the sky. Hit up every tree and node within a few feet of your running path, BOOM woods and ores. You dont have to “farm” to get mats. You get things from doing literally every thing in the game.

yeah i know, but some of them require ridiculous amounts of a material. One bolt of damask needs 300 silk scraps! Ugh… that one in particular is ridiculous…

Deldrimor and spiritwood are much easier (since you can harvest those as well as get them from salvage).

I think Silverkey is just pointing out that it is even easier with necro, and you can solo some content that I think was intended to be done with a group. For instance, in the Mad King’s Labyrinth, I got yelled at because I was soloing the non-boss doors in the labyrinth, and everyone else was apparently part of a zerg that I was screwing over unintentionally. Someone else in another thread said they were able to solo some of the bosses with their’s. That is not something I would have tried, but apparently we can pull it off. I would not have tried either of those with other classes.

I’ve seen warriors, guardians, and Rangers solo bosses in Mad King’s Labyrinth with ease, it’s not just necromancers.

If I implied that, I apologize, as that was not what I wished to convey. Just saying I did it on my necro, and I got yelled at for it. That’s all.

Profession Lore?

It’s been stated that even warrior asura are still interested in invention…

I tend to think of asura warriors as being asura whose area of interest is something that makes them better warriors. Maybe they’ve made a better weapon (those glyphic, Peacemaker, and other weapons may have the same stats as other weapons mechanically, but lorewise I bet they’re more potent than the average conventional weapon). Maybe they’ve used golem technology to make power armour. Maybe they’ve used some means to enhance their own strength, so even though they’re tiny they actually have the strength of a norn.

Or maybe they’re just one of the few asura with more brawn than brains. Consider Warmaster Efut in Retribution – while the Priory and Whispers reps both have a good idea of what the invention they’re using to break down the gate is, it’s the asura who dubyaspeaks it.

Although in Efut’s case, it’s also indicated that she’s a good tactician, so this could be an instance of an asura choosing to focus their mind on a nonmagical but still intellectual pursuit… but since it’s a military one, she also learns to become a warrior so she can also defend herself while on the field.

That’s a good explanation. Efut could be the Asura equivalent of Sun Tzu, studying and excelling at the art of war, and trained enough to survive on the battlefield.

Which makes me wonder about something…

Instead of actually giving what we so very much crave, is the lack of information potentially intentional in order to force us (those of us who care about this stuff anyways) to come up with our own “personal story” of why our characters exist? Did they intentionally leave it to us to explain how a norn, who arguably come from the least tech savvy of the races, becomes an engineer, or how a sylvari would be a necromancer (Trahearne still makes no sense to me in that regard), or any other counter-intuitive combination of race and class?

(Side note: really wish the racial skills worked better with the class skills (looking at you norn elites, asura armor, etc), but that’s off topic.)

Honestly I think the traitlines got changed so that they could institute the elite spec system. It wouldn’t have worked with previous setup because they are exclusive of each other. The previous spec system would let you pick and choose things, and once they introduced the next elites, people would have been able to pick things from multiple elites. The way it is now, they can make them exclusive so each one is a separate elite spec, and couldn’t be combined.

Condi Mes is a niche build. It may have some purpose in specific areas, but it’s not good in general, nor in open world. You will struggle against multiple foes pretty hard, I really suggest you to go for a power based (zerk) build / playstyle.

I played condi in pve with zero problems, even against multiple foes.

Wanna see you fight a few itzel rangers with a condi build with no problem at all. Killing them =/= having no struggle. It’s just that you lack burst and cleave wich is quite important for open world imo. But hey – in open world “everything works”.

I also wish him luck when fighting a reflect-o-chak with a condie build. Possible? Probably. Painful and agonizingly slow? Definitely.

Eh fair enough. I haven’t played mes in the new zones, so that might screw things up with that build if the creatures were made to shut down condi. I know that build worked pretty well in SW, but haven’t delved into the new areas with it yet (I don’t have a main as I like variety and have several level 80s I play around with).

Am i losing compatibility too much, if i’m not reaper?

Personally, I do think you are short changing yourself by not using reaper. It’s the reason there are so many necros in PvP.

As condi reaper, you’d still be using staff + scepter/X, but your F1 changes into a melee shroud instead of ranged, which does take a bit of getting used to. Trait-wise, Deathly Chill is one of the best… it makes chill cause damage in addition to it’s usual slow + skill recharge slowing effects. And reapers get lots of chills.

Which traitline would you have him trade out for reaper?

Death Magic easily.

Yeah that would be an overall improvement on this particular build.

All the original poster is saying is that with all the vitality and toughness he could get, and after putting weakness on the DH, the traps still pumped out enough damage past his toughness to take his health to zero.

Whether that is true or not, whether there are other mitigating circumstances, I don’t know. Just figured I’d clarify what his point was, since everyone was going off on tangents.

Why the Engineer is no longer fun

bearshaman.3421

Problem is not only scrapper but also players that don’t experiment.

I’ve seen this argument made in all the profession threads. I can’t speak to the June 15 updates (I wasn’t playing very long before that), but the elite specs have radically changed the power balance of the game and the playstyle of all the classes, and many people, for a wide range of reasons, aren’t happy with them.

Now I know most everyone is pvplayers which I don’t do, but my thing is that line from Pier: if you don’t like it, don’t use it. (I know you still have to deal with everyone else using it against you in pvp, but that just means you have to be more creative? (I dunno.) But anywhere else (except raids X-p ) you can play whatever you want! So enjoy your class the way you want to.

I got depressed at one point because everyone was saying that the first class I played (I’ve played all of them now) was nerfed or unplayable, and everyone was talking about ONE build! I finally got my head together, and recreated the build that made me like the class in the first place, and have been happy (with one of my characters at least) ever since. But I’ve seen the same sentiments expressed on all the profession forums.

If you aren’t enjoying your character, what’s the point? Play around, experiment, try new things! Variety is the spice of life.

Death Shroud Build

Most of this build revolves around being in shroud, I could see wells being more useful to you than signets. You can pop the Wells for the damage over time while in shroud to let them tick while you provide most of your ranged damage from there
It’s a work in progress. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: looking at it again, I think I was going for the might stacking, and having boon corruption on-hand, but I could swap in wells pretty easily based on the content being faced. I also wasn’t using blood magic for this one, so I sometimes stop thinking about using certain skills if I don’t have the trait that goes with them. :-S

Second Edit: Corruptor’s Fervor with Signets of Suffering. That’s why I did that. Still can swap in wells as need be.

Reaper does pretty good in champion fractals (Only have experience with the dailies). Personally I run Valkyrie armor with Berserker weapon and trinkets. With the added vitality, large defensive mist potion and rise, you can just facetank Mossman without moving. Also you still hit 100% crit if you use Valkyries with decimate defenses and food.

Viper is the next set I’m working on just to finish up to 100 with condi build

I can hit 100% with valkyrie armor, berserker weapons, the trinkets that combine these two stat sets, and fury.

All encounters should be tailored to that fight. I can manage melee on teq, vale guard, most fractals, however on specific bosses like wyvern I could play the movement game to constantly stay behind him and out of the aoe, but I spend more time doing that than attacking. I’ll swap out to staff/axe focus and regular shroud for life blast. Reaper is a great trait line but if it’s easier to range than go ranged. I spend a lot of time practicing on surviving playing only melee and eventually down the road I might be able to play melee on all fights but I don’t feel it’s detrimental when playing in a large group scale, you aren’t helping the team practicing, so bring what’s best

Death Shroud Build

D/D power necro uncommon?

bearshaman.3421

I ran (and still run) D/D and greatsword on a power reaper. (pve only player here, but i understand enough about pvp. If I get something wrong though, tell me

You can get boon corruption easily on that build. I used the bloodmagic traitline, so I favor having a well or two in my build, and the well of corruption works great. Also signets of suffering trait gives you boon corruption on the active skill of signets. So you don’t have to play a condi build to corrupt boons. (The condi damage won’t be as good, but how many conditions are non-damaging anyway? Besides, that’s less boons for them too.)

But yeah, D/D is pretty awesome to me, and I’ve debated on whether it is still better than GS just because it’s faster. Ultimately I like being about to solo stack 25 vuln with the Decimate Defenses trait, so I keep it around.

I’ve gotten use to the vulnerability stack on GS as well and want to run D/x along side for the runspeed trait, freeing up Locust for a different utilty. Problem is that /d isn’t good enough to replace Focus for most PvE in HoT and d/ has a limited range so I tend to be forced into axe for bosses like the wyvern. How do you manage to melee only and fight bosses that tend to sit in almost insta-death AoE such as Wyvern?

Are you switching out for range at specific encounters or am I missing a trick? Present build is pure zerk exotic, Spite, Blood, Reaper. Have played with knight trinkets for survival but still can’t avoid having to use a ranged weapon.

Yeah I noticed this problem too, and while I had wells, that’s not enough. I don’t like axe, staff would be my choice for a ranged option, maybe switching to Lich Form for the elite. My build is exotic Valkyrie armor, exotic zerk weapons, and the ascended trinkets that mix those two stat sets. (so I have more health without losing any crit). Also using Rage runes for fury uptime and more ferocity.

I am working on a second build that would operate from ranged with staff doing good damage and building lifeforce, still have GS, and using RS as much as possible for melee. This one could use all Valkyrie gear, as with the Death Perception AND Decimate Defenses, you are gonna be at 100% crit pretty easily anyway, and don’t need any precision, but I probably won’t bother recrafting, and just have the extra precision as a failsafe in case the vuln stacking doesn’t go off so well. The link has the gear I would use if I was gonna bother recrafting (Valyrie doesn’t have ascended trinkets so I went with something else, but it’s up to you of course).

D/D power necro uncommon?

Lol don’t need one. Unless it’s a classroom. Used to be a teacher. Habits die hard.

In any case, I’m done. I don’t like repeating myself, especially in fruitless argument.

I wouldn’t mind a beastmaster spec. I’m just not sure what that would look like since we:
A) Already have the pet mechanic and,
B) Already have the beastmastery traitline.

I feel like that is something that would be more suited to a rework (which is not what the thread is for) but I’m open to the idea if someone makes a compelling case for it.

Me: glyph of empowerment and GotL make your wanted more in a group
You: Thats not true, they make me wanted more in a group

That’s a thing that just happened.

Way to change the conversation to make yourself look better. You were ranting about druids in raids, I point out that they are useful in other forms of group content. You rant about them being only good at healing, I point out that they offer a lot more than that and cited examples.

What you also didn’t do? Analyze your own feelings about it to figure out that what you wanted something that was more of a solo build. Instead you just blindly raged about them being healbots and about raids and about getting WoW players. I had to do that for you. You’re welcome.

I don’t get it … logical conclusion is that you like Necro more because of it’s skills, etc…. so play it. If you like Guardian more, get over “the other kids got better toys than me” syndrome. Don’t be one of these unhappy people that always wants to play optimal, because someone is always better than you are.

Agreed.

Anyone thought of none? i don’t think there will be any addition to this game, since they shooed off too many people with their keep silent philosophy.

They’ve already stated that they will be doing more of them.

I almost wish that the freedom of movement traits that druid has had been saved for an elite spec that could be dedicated to that concept. One designed to slip through CCs and debilitations. Unfortunately with druid that would make some traits redundant. (Two elite specs would have very high similarities in traits) I would like to see a trait for ranger that helped deal with weakness however.

They can replicate the trait. The elite specs are mutually exclusive, so it’s not like you can take the druid and new elite spec traitlines; it’s one or the other. So if two elite specs have one or two traits that are similar, no big deal.

Necro is too OP

Too be quite honest, I’m not surprised reapers are considered OP when most classes run around the level of cleanses as a pre hot engineer, which was considered condi food. On top of that they all run a lot of boons as well, so bonus for the reaper.

Bonus for any necro, reaper or not. boon corruption isn’t just for reapers.

Don’t just pull kitten out of your kitten . I wanted an elite spec similar to other classes. Can be useful with multiple builds, synergises with our base class and actaully provides a fun new way to play the class. I was happy when staff was revealed and it was obviously going to be a more magic themed spec.

What I didn’t want was a 1 note braindead heal spam spec with no synergy with Ranger, a broken new mechanic that ads a skill bar that has 3 absolute useless skills, a weapon with only 1 good skill, a new set utilities which somehow managed to be even worse then Ranger shouts were when the game first launched and complete tunnel focus on raids to the exclusion of everything else.

Well I’m sorry I’ve been able to figure out how to use the Druid skills for more than just being a healbot.
Yes Druid was made a healer to attract people to raids, just watch the reveal again where he announces its a healer and spends the rest of the reveal patting himself on the back because ‘Raids need healers so Ranger is meta now because raids need healers and druid is a healer thus ranger is meta because I said so’.

I won’t entirely disagree with you on this point. As I said, they made raids to attract WoW people, and so yeah druid happens to be good at healing. But it’s good for a lot of other things, and the other classes already had some significant healing abilities (blood magic for necros, and water attunement for eles and tempests, and healing turret for engis to name three). So what if we got a more useful group healing ability that a lot of other classes already had?

Druid makes berserker builds more powerful (glyph of empowerment and GotL giving a combined 25% increase to damage)

Blatently false. It makes Raid druids more appealing to the team (and gotl is part of the reason why the healing is so boring and why glyphs make no sense at all) but for a Berserker ranger in any other mode they range from terrible to giving up too much to take them.

I gave up nothing to take druid (I’ve been using it for fractals, I don’t do raids), and gained alot. Have you even tried that combo in a group? I can visibly see a huge difference in how quick a boss’ health bar is being taken down when I pop GoE and use CA 4 with GotL.

Honestly, now that I rethink some of the things you said, it sounds like you don’t like the fact that the druid tends to shine most in a group, and not as much solo. If that’s your issue, then sure, its not really designed for solo work. But to say it’s nothing more than healspam is to really not see all the other possibilities with it.
