You forgot to mention the 3 plus month wait for balance patches to fix skills and classes that are either over tuned or under powered, that are then just half hearted attempts at balancing at that.
You forgot class stacking.
You forgot fair poor match quaility.
You forgot throwing matches and trolling and creating game breaking conditions fully allowed.
The last year of PvP in GW2 has been such a train wreck that they have to resort to bribing PvE players to fill in for the PvPers that evacuated the scene with high end PvE items.
Now name me another eSports that has all of those problems. Also name me a eSports that struggles to get 4k viewers during their championships, because they are exciting and fun to watch?
TL; DR…
We say ANet should give up on eSports because. They either do not have the will power, the man power, focus, or the expertise, to allow it push pvp into a healthy direction.
Better to leave eSports to the games that have dedicated dev teams and focus on competitive PvP.
Abandoning esports would be mistake since it does not take away resources, but you got a point.
Frequent balance patches and more accurate MM would not pose a problem.
What really ticks me off is that they abandoned team queue. I’m not saying that we should go back to the old system.
Just add a godkitten seperate guild league that starts after/before the normal season. And shorten the duration of the seasons. There is no real way to compete as a team now.
Will be interesting to see how much teams the upcoming tournament will get. Maybe anet will realise that they are killing esports right now. Giving the community the task to build a competitive outlet is such a weak excuse.

Yes this is real. There is a thread with 31+ posts about it. I know the majority is against it, but the fact that there is a discussion on such a topic creeps me out. Have you ever had a midfight against druid-engi-ele-comp while thinking: “This could be a lot more fun with more toughness”.

You should better wait a bit. They are currently working on something according to datamining posts ( But they are really taking their time now… ).
WvW is pretty dead right now, even on higher populated servers. PvP season is also running until February. Don’t blow your gems on this gamemode right now. They don’t deserve it. Hopefully we will see more population when the new reward system comes. If your server still sucks you can swap.
Roaming is a joke. I see people blowing their money on damage reduction food while encountering one poor soul on average in 30 minutes.

- Removed reflect mechanics. Ranger longbow projectiles are unblockable and bounce between 5 targets.
- Decreased movement speed of Thief by 50%
- If someone stands on close for over 10 seconds without fighting an enemy, the player will be automatically reported and banned for the rest of the season
- Decreased Mesmer portal range to 2000
- Added an algorithm that determines the best player of the match. This player won’t loose rating if the match is lost.
- The best player will be the one, who uses the majority of swear words. The capslock usage will also be tracked.
- Added daily balance patches according to “XXX is OP” – forum threads
- Warrior can no longer heal. Removed Endure Pain.
- Removed ESL tournaments. Because of the additional resources, a new Living World episode will be released every week.
- If you duoQ, MMR gain will be halved and loss will be doubled because it’s so unfair
- Removed condition damage

Jebro isn’t that bad, he also plays on EU in Denial I think. Best Mesmer I’ve seen so far.
What I really dislike in EU is the lack of communication like OP said. Sometimes ppl don’t even read chat. I had a Mesmer in my team who set up a portal on foefire lord, activated it, no one came because no one knew where it was. We ended up loosing….
There are so much scrub thieves lately. Problem is that I’m also a scrub power mesmer and dealing with them is a pain.
Been playing around with druid lately. It’s funny when the thief eats a knockback, uses his block, tries to stealth up – but guess what – I have a second knockback for you. Trying to disengage to save your 25 precious stacks? Too bad I got pew pew.
Druid is still strong and (while in combat) you can abuse quick draw for broken mobility, if you like this trait. Only against some warriors with defender runes and stunbreak heal you might struggle to take them down. Even with offensive gear they can outheal you. I got a hybrid build to counter that a bit, but it’s still annoying.
I can really recommend druid, but it’s not for everyone since it plays a bit slow and you need to kite a lot.
As someone with a “love-hate-relationship” to pvp I want to hear about your “highlights” from s5. This is not a pure rant-thread, so try to find at least something positve. Note: most of my games were in platinum and i played mender druid.
- Late night game. Faced a power Shatter with elite well. Easy game. Made fun of him trying to do something while we popped our invulns. Ele and I were mid. Power shatter comes, ele got oneshotted because dodging is hard. Started to scream because I could not “support” him without CAF. I think we both were a bit tired. At least we won in the end. We had a good laugh.
- We won a midfight because I knocked a DH into the wall with LB 4. He was stuck in Limbo. At least we took him out of his misery.
- An engi kept going far dueling bunkers on capped node. Threw some games for us. We called him out and he told us he was so frustrated since he already lost 250 rating today.
- a certain necro with over 10k games who is on everyones blocklist. I think EU community should know him now. Keeps telling me I hurt my team when I 2v1 stall at far. He was one of the enemies. We won the game.
- An enemy Mesmer blinked through a few DH traps in the first seconds of the midfight. Never seen a flying corpse before.
- Mender ele and engi thought it was a good idea to go far after a won midfight. An enemy ele was there too. Fought there for 7 minutes. Never got the decap, ignored teamchat. Game lost because enemies took advantage out of that.
- Getting temple buffs thanks to staff 5 while they spam projectiles like monkeys.
- People going afk after first midfight. At least you tried
- Had a game where the enemies arrived 30 seconds later on their nodes. IDK what kind of strategy that was. It’s just akward expecting a stealth bomb but nothing happens. 3 cap from start for us, we won.
- Mid Platinum, primetime, our necro’s only goal was to kill all the beasts. We won at least because the enemy team was dumb

It’s always the same. I wish they would finally try something new. This Meta has become so stale, it’s really a shame. Can’t you guys think a bit outside the box? It’s literally unwatchable. How can you even play like this? You should at least include some Charrs, because not everybody likes human females. Respect the furry lovers too please
When you lead with over 100 points, greedy teammates go far because they think we will never win by holding two points. Enemy regroups, far gets wiped or we get outrotated.
Currently platin. Placement matches were fun, since there was a lot of build variety. Never expected that since I don’t like the concept.
After them I had some matches that some people might consider as “good”. But were they fun? Hell no! I swear I’m going to scream when I have an ele + engineer defending the midpoint forever again. The whole ele matter even got worse since it’s harder to focus someone when you play with pure soloQers.
I don’t get it. You had the whole ele matter resolved in s4. Now it’s again a nobrainer in nearly every comp. And build diversity on ele is still non existent. I started to hate this class, because teamfights are less deadlier. But it’s not just ele. All damage reduction skills that can be applied to teammates make pvp boring. Had a match yesterday where we had zero kills and still won.
I’m not having fun. Probably playing for ascended gear this time and going back to wvw killing some yaks…
I’m not sure what kind of role you want to fulfil. It seems you want to beat every class in 1v1. Getting in range against a DH is obviously the right choice, but do you really help your team while doing that?
A DH could just sit on point while you do mediocre dps from range with necro/warr. Even if you manage to keep the point neutral you are not helping your team. It’s not that bad, but by doing 1v1 stalemates you can’t carry your team and end up not climbing at all.
Just leave a neutral/enemy capped point if the rest of the team is occupied and help them. You can retake the point later if you win teamfights. And with warrior you could also try to stalemate 1v2 if your opponents are kind of bad – easy win.
At least we get something. It might even be enough to let me forget, that WvW class balance won’t happen anytime soon. Finally something to do. Old seasons were pointless after you reached legendary.
My guess what people will tick off are these placement matches, because you will probably get matched with very random people. Everyone will be super tryhard. Just imagine the amount of salt. I will probably not play ranked right from the start. There is still Wintersday, where I can feed the orphans with dirty wool socks for karma …
Had some hopes as I read through these “notes” that they rework core classes. What a letdown.
Condi Ranger is not unplayable, but it just gets outclassed by warrior. Maybe it’s slightly better in terms of mobility. Depends on your weapon choice.
Another season with shout trooper for me. I’m not even mad since a lot people still can’t deal with pew pew Druid . Maybe they will remove Mender amulet for more “diversity”, because thats how balance changes work in 2016.
Designing rewards for wvw is more compicated, since you don’t want to promote switching to winning servers. But they are really taking their time now.
well pokemon go is apparently going to have second generation soon
To be honest they should improve balance and streamline gear/food before adding rewards. Matchmaking will always be crappy since the number of active players fluctuates too much. It’s the same as in pokemon go. They want to have more returning players by introducing gen2, while their game is still crap. This won’t work.

Or whats up with Druid lately? Nerfing their healing is justified, but will they ever realise that having pets as a damage source is just a really bad idea? Why would you ever pick up a zerk Druid while your pet does the same damage with Magi?
I realize this comes as a shock after years of their being completely ignorable, but ranger pets are, in fact, supposed to be able to hurt you. Crazy, I know.
(and before you bark and whine about removing pets’ independent stats, look up what the stats on the bristleback and smokescale actually are, and consider whether you want to open the can of worms you think you do).
Have you ever played Ranger? All you need to do is running circles around an Object to outplay the pet. It’s just so bad as a damage source. I’m not crying because the pets do too much damage. The damage is just unreliable and it kills diversity.
All i wanted to say is that pets shoud provide utiliy instead of damage ( BurrTheKing already gave us some good points).
I main nearly the same Druid build since S1 and queued to legend with it. I tried out a lot, but why should I change build when I can play as thief, support, duelist and outnumbered fighter in one build? You can play something different, but you will have to drop at least one of these criterias. There is no diversity.

It’s just pathetic how they have balanced skills in the past year. I give them credit for trying but only reducing cooldowns won’t help much if there is zero synergy. Best example are physical skills on Warrior. Why would you ever drop a stance for that? They are not useless, but just a bad concept and easy to dodge.

Taking a break from PvP sounds like good idea, since you burn out encountering the same builds over and over. It will be interesting how expansion 2 will change things.
DH is strong in the hands of an experienced player who knows how to time skills and not just spam everything in a few seconds like 50% of the DHs I encountered.
But thats not an issue. This is just another thread filled with complaints by people who never made it past ruby, getting rekt by full trap-fractal builds. Well the new PVE-AI allows mobs to dodge out of AOEs. Mobs are literally outplaying DH now, so you should be able to do it too…
DH is mostly fine now.

I don’t get it. How can you promote this kind of gameplay? I regularly see people sitting in towers for hours. I know this is useful and players want to be rewarded for that. Fair enough.
But honestly this is one of the worst things in WvW. My actual job is more fun. It’s a game and you should not encourage people to do this.
As people in this thread mentioned – there are more fun alternatives.
My biggest wish right now is, that they add some profession balance before changing anything in WvW. I don’t expect too much, but at least balance dire/TB-gear and streamline food options. And some pvp-only-changes would also fit into WvW. Whats with all the mobs and PvE events?
Rigt now they are working on skirmishing rewards, but these won’t improve WvW in general. It could lead to higher population, but it will probably die out again.
Since Anet is currenty working on new rewards for Skirmishes I want to point out that this could also help removing another common flaw in WvW.
Skirmishes should award something meaningful, but it should not encourage switching servers.
I don’t know if this has been suggested yet, but why not add big, seperated reward tracks for Skirmishes and reset them when you swap server.
For example you get something every three score points if you were active during the last Skirmish.
Server switching could be even more punishing if the rewards increase in value. It will also be harder to leave servers with a whole guild since your reward progress is individual. This won’t stop guilds if they really want to leave, but it could be at least discussed.
In addition I want to bring up another topic which could be tied into these reward tracks: Legendary Armor.
I know Anet insists in making legendary armor a PvE-Raid-Only reward since ever, but it just does not make sense to me. Mixing gear and swapping stats has grown in importance in WvW, especially since they added more and more options. Is it really that hard to add unique rewards to Raids which is not legendary armor? Even the PvP backpacks will be available outside the seasononal achievements, so why not make leg. armor available for a broader audience too? WvW Skirmish reward tracks would definitely a fitting place for aquiring the Precursors/other related stuff.
Maybe I’m just a pvp-pleb who can’t get into raiding…but at let’s discuss at least my first topic.
These traitlines are overused since the specialisation patch 2015. I really wish we could finally drop them without having much disadvantage. NM is already not that necessary for solo roaming in WvW.
Even if they make FB baseline there will still be diversity problems:
- Only WHAO ( shout heal) makes use of it = pick BM
- Pets are slow and don’t hit anything without BM
- In spvp we will still be using NM for fast ressing( this is actually fine )
- For quick access to regen, shouts + BM will still be your best pick ( Regen = fast celestial avatar)
So for more diversity you will have to baseline FB, pet moving speed and probably also heal skills( all of them should copy boons ).
Pretty sure this won’t make it into the game without nerfs, but that would be fine for me.
On the other hand I’m a bit pessimistic that they will ever make huge changes. There is a big thread with suggestions for ranger, but it got buried since people stopped bothering. Better nerf axe bounce again…
Thanks I tried this one out but honestly there is too much stability/stunbreak in the current roaming meta. And some classes even profit from stuns (DH, Warr). On the other hand It can destroy weaker builds without taking any damage which is really fun.
Currently trying out the chaos traitline ( Mirror got buffed btw). Having tons of stability/reflects and less blink recharge makes Mesmer even more slippery. And if they manage to stun you, they get stunned aswell and mess up their burst. Probably kitten variant, but I like it because it works.
As someone who is very new to Mesmer I’m a bit curious what kind of builds more experienced players run for solo/small-group roaming nowadays.
I’ve seen some YT roaming vids, but honestly these don’t help very much since you can run the glassiest crapbuild ever and kill newbies that never dodge and make a highlight video out of that. Especially with Mesmer.
To be clear, I’m looking for power-based builds. I know condi builds are probably easier to handle for a newbie like me, but these are boring and unfun to play.

What people don’t realize is that you have thanks to the additional boon duration a safestomp with 15 sec cooldown by using Natural Convergence. (Stability usually wears out before you stomp and you can be interrupted). This is actually pretty neat in teamfights and outnumbered fights.
But yeah…I better go with my power Mesmer again that I can’t play. Dueling wit druid is just pain right now because of a certain zerker Warrior build that can outheal you. WvW is really a joke. After the latest balance patch I’m 100% certain that Arenanet does not know, what to do with Druid and what it is supposed to do…but thats not the point of the topic.
Made a quick Build calc. Swapped a few gear pieces of Donees build. This seems much more appealing to me since you will reach around 80% crit chance instead of 60% while only sacrifying 3k health. Like Donee said – play whatever you want, but this one seems more effective in theory. Also: More Crit = More might
I know we have this topic since launch and I also know mainhand axe has it’s place in PVE but can we please discuss these weapon skills again?
Aside from that, that it’s animation looks like a monkey throwing poop, it really feels akward and the more recent buffs don’t help.
What is axe even trying to be? Is it a condi weapon? Is it a ranged or a melee set? Who knows? What’s with axe 2? Why is it so slow in general?
And wtf is the axe trait in the BM line? It’s a trait for direct damage for a “hybrid” weapon? Why???!!
Nothing makes sense. Only a mad scientist can create such a abomination.
To clarify things, I’m talking about the set from a pvp perspective. The weapon is just outdated. It was clearly designed for a very different meta, or maybe for pve only.
This weapon set does not need any damage buffs. It needs a complete rework. Why not add a CC/evade/combofield or a position skill an mainhand? AA could be a bit faster or maybe it should not be ranged at all.
I wish we had some harder hitting single strike skills like GS 2 since ranger makes use out of these with the MM line. Having these on axe would make more sense.
Make axe a burst or a condi weapon. Pick one Anet. You already have SB to cover the hybrid niche( this needs some thought too honestly).
Edit: Or at least give this weapon some harder hitting direct damage skills and add some condis. Mesmer scepter works that way and is not OP

Nice original build you got there. Using HOT stats is always a good thing since you get more stat points in total. Personally I would prefer Evasive Purity since you get rid of annoying cover conditions and poison but your choice makes sense with this build.
I’m pretty sure that you can kill everybody who wears offensive stat combos ( kitten stunbreak-heal warriors might take some time ). Since I tried out a lot recently with druid I’m pretty sure you will have trouble killing tankier builds. Maybe equipping more offensive stats could help and sigill of doom to cripple enemy heals.
For outnumbered fights this setup is fine except if you deal with boon corruption – but let’s face it, Reaper is just pathetic in WvW.
The recent Warhorn buffs are ok, but I hate the fact that the birds destealth you. I would still go with GS. Or honestly I would not equip melee weapons at all since they are underwhelming compared to every other class with melee options( but thats just my opinion).
Maybe I will try out your build but I will probably go back to my rampager-cele-hybrid crap since it kittens on nearly every class in 1v1.

Made this for the lolz after I heard they nerf base healing since zerk ranger is inefficient. Basically you run around with 3k base (!) power ( You can buff that with stacks if you want) . 50 % crit chance and zero ferocity. But who needs ferocity when you have 900 HP?
GS or sword/WH are also options.
Trying this one out this weekend, looks good on paper but it will probably suck.
This will be quite funny with tiger + BM + MM.
Sadly the internal cooldowns don’t really synergize
Some nerfs are justified but this one just proves that anet has no clue what ranger desperately needs. Safestomps or cleave. Ranger has none of that. Ressing in sPvP is already out of hand, so you take away more Stability? And good luck vs. Mace Condi Warr…
As a Solo/Duo Roaming class Ranger is neat, but I rather play power Mesmer right now since stomping in outnumbered fights is already frustrating. You have quite a bit of stealth but this one can be countered easily.
Give us some options here. There are sooo many core traits that suck monkeyballs. Why no insert some Stability ?
I think i forgot to say that i am playing core ranger.
That sucks especially if you don’t have access to HOT pets ( Wolf is still fine).
Even with a weaker meta with less projectile hate, core ranger was bad before HOT in PvP and is still bad now.
In WvW it’s somewhat okay if you kite, but you will miss binding roots. This trait is awesome.
Maybe the upcoming patch will change things ( especially the promised pet changes ). But I highly doubt that. They even nerfed core traitlines instead of Druid. The best Ranger change 2016 was that pets can remember their names if you think about it.
I really welcome Druid nerfs, but I also want Anet to give as an incentive to play zerk ranger to keep up with sustainy warriors/engineers.

In PvP equip range weapon and kite. In the current meta you can win against nearly everything or stalemate easily. ( Except a good condi warr )
In WvW make use of the Quick Draw trait. Knockback/Stealth and reposition staff 3 and a warrior with a standard build cant even touch you…
First of all, I really appreciate the dev-player communication, which was way worse in this forum months ago. But the existance of this poll blows my mind.
We all know that you can’t match premades always against other premades. We simply don’t have enough population to achieve a perfectly balanced MM. So Anet asks players in this forum how they should handle this “issue”. I remember a dev telling us that non-premades vs premades only happened at a really small percentage (This was months ago).
So here are things I noticed after lurking in this forum a while ago:
- Players get very emotional when they think something is not “fair”
- They immediately make a thread about it ( e.g. Guard OP )
- Matchmaking is always bad
- Players want perfect matchmaking while having low Q-times and low player population
- Most of them are “stuck” in ruby
- They agree with each other while having vastly different experiences. ( Anet might get rid of something that could get annoying, so why not? )
I’m not a pro player but it’s really hard for me to take them serious. Letting the coummunity decide over such an important topic will not always result in a healthy game.
This poll is also heavily flawed. We all know no one wants to get matched against premades so the average Joe wants to get rid of them. You can predict the result…( it was 78% for “change” last time I checked ).
This is just WRONG. GW2 is an MMO. Players want to play together and improve their skills as a team or just have fun together while climbing to Divisions. You don’t make GW2 great again while building walls between players.
In the latest big Update we got the opportunity to group up after a match. Most of the time I just Solo/DuoQ, but I still made a lot new friends because of that. Now this is getting obsolate.
The outcome of the poll is not meaningful. You really are going to abandon the current system because of that? I know it’s only for testing, but this is just a bad idea. It worries me that the poll after s5 will have a similar result since you don’t have a good reference how the season would be with grouped players.

Started in sapphire and got legend x1. I don’t give a kitten about prestige since I play off primetime hours and finding a match takes too long…
Played 170 matches, won 101.
Sometimes I got really hopeless people in my team, but since everybody insisted in playing a DH, it was easy mode with my Shoutbow. When the match wasn’t going in our favor I just went far stalling 2+ people. When they left only one behind I killed him and got the farcap or helped my teammates if it would be a stalemate. Might sound kittened, but it worked surprisingly well and it kept my streaks up in diamond.
What is forced 50% win rate?
I don’t think Anet can ever achieve forced 50:50 MM with their poor player numbers, but they tried this season.
4 exclusive titles already isn’t enough? entitled much?
If you have 4 Fiat Pandas you can still drive only one at the same time. If you could trade them against a Lamborghini, you would probably not say no…

I think the OP has a point, players that pvp and stick to it even with so bad MM and got legend in all 4 seasons, should get a finisher, would be nice, not that it was any harder , but u still got to play the games.
Im only playing unranked atm , cause i dont think there is many players near prestige 3 and my ques are insanely long.
I hope anet will show some apreciation for the players still playing pvp and reaching legend, cause really pvp is a mess atm.You right, you deseve a title for sure

Well since since the legendary titles are tied to achievements, you can check that very easy with their APIs. Should not be a technical problem ( I hope? ).
Hey guys, I know this is a special snowflake question, but the Year of Ascension ends next week as you might figured.
It would be nice that players who played active during all seasons and also reached legendary get an exclusive reward like a new title or a new finisher. This whole xxx-Legend title system is a complete mess and there should be at least a title that “summerizes” them.
Having this title does not indicate skill, but at it shows at least some commitment for this game mode. An exclusive new finisher would also be a nice addition, but I demand probably too much here…

Whats so bad at dying against a huge blob. There is no skill involved. Saw them getting chased by a blob that big, my decent pc started getting fps drops. Just a salty commander wasting server resourcres.
The funny thing is that this bullkitten-mentality helps them making footages. At some point people stop chasing them, but some tryhards still don’t give up as long as they outnumber them. They get rekt most likely since they are nothing but zerg sheeps thinking their own usual playstyle needs skill.

There is organized Cake hunt when Gandara gets their server. So they pretty much left to play BDO cause “we are bored”

In my opinion there are far too less famous guilds in this game that produce content like this. They are not gods, but at least better than the average roamer you usually encounter. I’m not a fanboy, heck I even killed some of them in 1v1, had some good fights.
I also love how you people judge them by their builds. Since when gave anet a kitten about wvw balance? They made some changes, but primarly for pvp…
Get some mobility and disengage if you think you can never ever win.
Keep going cake, this is at least more entertaining to watch than every gw2 esports video.

When do you play? I am now on Deso and am in the morning, early afternoon and again late at night on the road. And that is fine. In the evening there is certainly pointless.
During the week I roam on early evening when I come home from work. On weekends I play whenever I got time. T2 would probably a better choice, but I don’t know if there is really much difference. Disengaging is not a problem, since I play druid and thief (not the perma stealth crap lol), but always running from a larger group is not fun either…
Hey guys, as a lonely poor soul who roams on a T4 (maybe T5 soon) EU server, mostly solo or duo, I actually consider spending a lot gems to move to a “better” server (Gandara probably).
Some people might ask, what roaming means for me. Fighting other players of course, not just flipping camps, killing yaks and tagging towers…(of course I try to be useful)
Since there is not much to do for me anymore in this game I fell in love with this mode. All these random situations, testing new builds and winning outnumbered fights make it so enjoyable for me.
Maybe I’m just a bit burned out, but fights seem to get so boring lately. Most people are just running away, or don’t even fight back. It’s not dead. There are a lot good other roamers out there that could kick my kitten , but good fights seem to get rarer and rarer.
But what do you think? Is it worth it? I really appreciate your help.
