I used to feel slow on engineer because I didn’t want to sacrifice a slot for the speed elixir. I appreciate the permanent swiftness & vigor traiting which I learned from you. Thanks for helping out us noob engineers.
Interesting to see the community struggle (not in a bad way) to collaboratively prioritize the issues. It may be occurring to you that this is exactly what ArenaNet has to do every day and it ain’t the easiest thing in the world.
It’s wonderful to see the dialogue and respect shown increase by an order of magnitude here over how the forums normally have been in the past. This is a most welcome change.
They already said that likely candidates for playable races are Heket, Tengu, or Kodan. Skritt, Quaggan, and Grawl are likely never going to be playable if you ask me. Also from what I recall they said if they even do another profession it’ll be WAYYY down the road and likely another soldier profession.
I hate the soldier, it ruins the game environment of fantasy world
Plate armor ruins your fantasy world environment, huh?
I don’t think you realize that the professions and armor types of Guild Wars 2 are classified as Scholar (light armor), Adventurer (medium armor), and Soldier (heavy armor).
Check it out on the wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Profession
Sorry, but this deserves it’s own thread. So it’s been said that there’s “probability of a new race or profession is high and so are the currently unreachable lands of the original Guild Wars”.
My speculation is quaggan playable race. As for profession, pure Ritualist would be nice to see. I miss my Spirit Spammer builds that would make an unending mini army of ranged attackers.
Sorry, but you really should search before posting, as this topic has been covered TO DEATH already.

Etc, etc…
I wish I could find a source for this but I remember an interview where ArenaNet said that the “lesser” races (skritt, quaggan, hylek) were never going to become playable races. If anyone knows that source please link it?
T6 fine mats is the cheap part. Ancient wood/ori is where the problem lies, because you are going to go through them like water. And if you get 450-470 through refinement, then the t2-5 wood and metal is not really that cheap as well nowadays.
Yes, on the one hand, I want to say: “Yay for multiple alts at level 80!”
But, on the other hand, all I do, now, is gather. Even though ore and ancient wood drop more often as actual loot and are more frequently salvaged. I’m still gathering for most of my playtime to get all 3 weapon crafting disciplines to 500 and make ascended weapons for at least 2 of my 80s.
LOL…. so you basically have to be Grandmaster Crafter….
…which costs even more than just buying the Precursor off the TP….
“Shooping” debate aside, this possibility is very likely.
I only spent about 120 gold. That’s hardly the same level as buying a precursor. If I had more mats saved up (instead of selling them in the past) it would’ve cost me even less.
Casters with hammer is just lol. Will never happen and I’m glad.
It will happen, and you will have a sad.
Is it me or is plague really weak? In the current wvw meta it does almost no damage and the conditions, well from all warrior I just see immune x 5 and you are so kitten slow in this form that squishies are kinda unharmed too.
Besides tanking with around 5400 armor I do not see the use for this:/If you pop WH 5 before you plague, you get swiftness, aoe cripples on top of w/e cripple you do with plague, and the possibility to proc more siphons/sigil effects on crit. ;-) You’re welcome.
Plague is somewhat weak if you only use it for damage and don’t have any traits/gear that synergize with it.
Bleeds are a necromancer’s strongest condition damage and Plague #1 is a bleed. My runes and food buffs all increase bleed durations to where they overlap each other for massive bleed damage.
If you have the trait that chills on inflicting blindness, spamming Plague #2 not only prevents your foes from being able to hit you, it practically freezes them in place. I see this is a support tactic: you lock down mobs so your allies can beat the crap out of them. You can always pop out of Plague, target a mob, and use Epidemic to multiply everything even more.
The trade-off with Plague is that while it doesn’t seem to do huge damage, because your vitality and toughness are hugely buffed while you’re in plague form it makes for a great survival tool. For example, if both Deathshroud and your heal are on cooldown, Plague can save your necrotic butt by buying you time.
Playstyle is a matter of preference and performance, so use whatever elite seems to give you the best results.
I have no doubt that ArenaNet will see fewer sales of this permanent sickle than the previous ones (correcting for growth in the player base, of course) because a great many people happen to despise clowns.
Flesh golem is great in some circumstances but but Plague is the king elite for me. It gives you TONS of extra vitality and toughness when you’re in plague form and you can spam #2 for never-ending blindness on foes so that anyone can cut them down with impunity. If I’m not in a group with other damage-dealers I alternate between the #1 and #2 skills to keep mobs blinded while I stack bleeds on them.
My build is a conditions build, however, so Plague is very strong for me. I’m thrilled and amazed at how I can take on multiple mobs (including veterans). Between Death Shroud, life-stealing, and Plague, I am a beast.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks hammer for necro is a good idea. Here are my ideas:
Auto-attack sequence:
1. Deathly Strike: Single target physical damage.
2. Necrotic Swing: Sweep the hammer in a circle, inflicting vulnerability to multiple foes.
3. Pestilent Strike: Strike the ground, raising a cloud of poison in a circle around the caster. Poison stacks.
Skills 2 – 5:
Deathly Ward: Strike the ground, leaving a mark/well that immobilizes foes who cross its line and inflicts vulnerability.
Chilling Blow: Strike the ground, chilling foes in a circle.
Peal of Doom: Raise the hammer high up over the caster’s head and sound the Peal of Doom (a really deep, ominous bell sound). Knockback in a circle around the caster.
Bone Field: Slam the hammer vertically, head-down on the ground in front of the caster. Can be traited to have ground targeting but otherwise is a circle around caster. A spiky field of sharp ribs and bones shoots up from the ground, causing cripple and torment.
None of these are meant to inflict heavy damage except Field of Bones. Most are control abilities. I feel these are at least a step in the right direction for what hammer could be for necromancer.
Condi build wrecks in PvE. This guy has several different builds that are highly effective. I recommend him highly: http://www.youtube.com/user/Iamoneandiamlegion
I’m using his condi build and mobs just melt away. Since much of my activity is gathering and open world/LS content, it’s perfect for me.
Don’t remove drops from champs. That makes ArenaNet look like big hypocrites. “We want you to kill champions and get rewarded… oh, except for Scarlet’s invasions and Jormag.” Champions should be consistent but that’s a different topic.
Remove random spawn champions altogether from Scarlet’s invasions. Before you poop yourself in a rage fit, please read on so I can explain an option that will be good for everyone.
Keep the champions required to advance on the invasion, such as Aetherblade captains. Just get rid of the randomly spawning champions which are an automatic scaling response to the number of players. There are plenty of tough veterans to kill, anyway.
This will stop farming but it will also reduce the number of players in total to the point where the event may not succeed anyway. To solve this, there is another change I feel ArenaNet could implement:
Reduce the loot for failing the event and increase it for winning. By a lot. Like it or not, it’s human nature to play for the reward. That’s why you have champ-farming in Scarlet invasions: players will do what gives the biggest payout. But if the end rewards for winning were buffed so that a player could compare it favorably to the same amount of time spent doing something else, then players will choose to participate in—and win—the invasion.
TL;DR: remove randomly spawning champions (keep the captains as killing them advances the event), reduce rewards for failing the event, and significantly buff the rewards for winning the event.
I hope ArenaNet and players find this idea constructive and helpful.
That picture has been confirmed by anet to be a fake.
Source?
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/268385-picture-precursor-might-be-coming/
From ArenaNet poster on GW2Guru: “We do not allow for rumor & speculation threads, but we can assure you this is fake.”
Google -> gw2nodes -> enjoy.
What is there to enjoy?
Running around whacking rocks and chopping trees is fun? Since when?
Then earn your gold some other way and buy the materials. Some people do find gathering fun. Part of the “game” aspect of this is that you have series of requirements which must be met in order to achieve a desirable goal, such as having a particular weapon. Deciding how to meet those requirements to reach your goal and going about it is simply playing the game.
Subjectivity aside, my one concern is that the way the heavy chest is designed makes your character look fat and diminishes the chest. This is really bad for humans and norns (both sexes). There is something about the way the bands on the stomach and the design of the pectoral/breast covering looks that makes the chest look small and the stomach look big, and I dislike that very much.
I realize that ArenaNet has a very strong vision for armor and weapon designs, and I feel strongly the heavy ascended chest pieces could be redone in support of that vision while providing that much-desired heroic shape to the chest.
You only have so much time to play and you have to decide how you want to play. You have to make trade-offs.
The devs know the ways to control the player economy and one of those ways is to limit the availability of resources in order to maintain their value.
These two factors create this situation. For me, there is so much possibility in this game that I don’t mind a bit of a grind, because the varieties of “grind” are not boring to me:
- Do meta/boss events for Dragonite Ore and rares
- Open world chests for Empyrean Fragments
- Run dungeons/fractals for gold and Dragonite/Fragments
- Gather high-level materials in low quantities to use or sell for a decent price
- Gather low-level materials in high quantities to use or sell for a less decent price
- Mess around with transmuting lower-level mats into higher-level mats via the Mystic Toilet and profit.
- Farm champs for loot boxes

Since I posted this, I have noticed others posting more than just a few duplicates of this topic. All I can say is that I’m glad it’s not just me and that I hope ArenaNet is capable of addressing and plans to address the overflow problem.
People were messing up the Scarlet attacks at first, too.
Give it some time.
And the Clock Tower jumping puzzle.
And every dungeon, ever.
So… yeah. Great job, ArenaNet, on supplying a real challenge! Looking forward to the first time I actually win this bugger.
Same for me! I love the new boss updates (sure, Teq is the “star” but I like fights where I have a chance to succeed and not be in endless overflow limbo, too).
When everyone stacking right on the golem ate it I laughed so hard. The fight is now much more fun and interesting, as is the Fire Elemental. I haven’t had a chance yet to check out the others but I’m looking forward to it.
Problem is, 25 bleed stacks are rare in sPvP so why change condition dmg!
sPvP #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah they don’t care since PvE isn’t an eSport
You are hilarious. Have you heard all the PvP’ers claiming how ArenaNet doesn’t care about them, only PvE casuals buying gems, etc.?
This is how you know you’re being treated fairly: everyone thinks they’re getting the shaft. :P
At first, everyone rushes in because they want to see the new content.
After a few days of waiting hours at a time for Teq to spawn only to realize their server can’t defeat him, people look for alternatives like guesting.
After a few days of waiting hours at a time for Teq to spawn on the guested server only to realize they can’t defeat him either, people will stop trying.
Once people stop trying there won’t be any more overflows.
Give it a week.
This is true in my experience, but I still find it frustrating to wait in overflow limbo. I wish the technology could be improved enough to handle it.
I’d rather they leave Teq as it is for a while. People will rise to the occasion. Scrubs will give up and go away because their’s nothing for them in failing the event and they can’t be bothered to try and do what it takes to succeed.
Yes its mega fail , im yet to do TEQ on my server and theyve done it , blackgate
Ouch man, that’s gotta hurt. :/
At this point I’m going to go ahead and say that overflow is far worse than the server queues I had to deal with back in other MMOs. It’s really ruining the game.
It’s certainly very frustrating, but at least with each chance at the fight you can improve your own understanding, tactics, and strategies. Just don’t spend that 30 copper all in one place.
Not even ONCE was I able to be with my own server (Tarnished Coast) for Tequatl.
Not even once in all the time I spent in overflow was there even the option to travel to the main server.
I hope something can be done about this soon.
Do you understand why the overflow mechanic is in place?
Does me understanding this fix anything?
Of course I understand why overflow exists, and how overflows cascade. Saying I’m not a dev or a tech doesn’t mean I’m computer-illiterate. But unlike many players who think they know the “simple” answer to fix a problem, I know better and can’t really offer any suggestions. I can only express my wish for ArenaNet’s tech folks to improve the situation.
Doesn’t ‘fix’ anything but it shows why the overflow mechanic is in the game and the best alternative.
If we didn’t have overflow, you’d have hundreds of people on one server. They tested this already in beta and realized with that many people, game performance gets ruined. You’d have everyone with massive lag and unable to execute skills/movement.
So what would you prefer?
Have 200 players in one server and have a guaranteed chance of failure because the lag is horrendous?
or
Have 100 players in one server with a reasonable chance at succeeding while the other 100 people are on overflows and they also have a chance of succeeding (assuming they are coordinated)
What I would prefer is that you join with me in making our voices heard for improving the situation, instead of trying to make an argument where there isn’t one to be had. Let ArenaNet figure out how to fix it. As a player, it’s not my job to know the technical trade-offs and limitations. All I know is they made a game and I can’t play it the way they intended. I have no idea why there cannot be server-specific overflows, for example, so that I could still play with friends from Tarnished Coast.
With our encouragement perhaps they’ll prioritize their resources accordingly. If we say nothing, they’ll assume we think the situation is acceptable.

What do you sugest as an alternative?.
Not going into overflow isn’t really an option, we already have people complaining about lag with the overflows in place, removing them would mean even more people and more lag in big fights like these. At least now going to overflow doesn’t mean missing the fight at all.
I’m not a dev or a tech. All I know is I have yet to fight Teq with my own server community, and am making my voice heard.

Overflow got him down to 80% at the most. Sadly, it seems that will be the only server I’ll be playing on for some time.
…and make it a guild mission. It would be a perfect challange for large guilds.
NO.
No. This is a Challenge. If it’s too hard, you can leave so someone else can take your slot. People actually care that Anet is providing something that doesn’t require standing in one place, and spamming “1”.
I think you did not read my entire post, since you totally miss my point.
My point is why not leaving the hard content for “people who actually want to challenge them”, thus, the raid party, and leave out those half hearted/ lazy people who just want freebies without putting effort in it?They can make Teq as hard as they want, but I want to select who I be with to challenge this hard content, that is my point. Currently, open world hard content is not a fair and valid option.
Oh, you mean like every other open world event? ArenaNet has set the bar high from day one: cooperate, figure it the heck out, or the event fails.
A large guild (or a few guilds) can coordinate this fight even in the open world. You think you’re gonna organize 80 players for an instance? There’s a reason why 40-person raids have all but bitten the dust.
How often did temple events fail at first? How often did you die in your first GW2 dungeon?
People learn and improve. Until they do, event fails. Everyone wanted more challenging content. Now you have it. Don’t kid yourself about “fairness.”
Thank you. I’ve been fighting bosses and it’s good to know dungeons are awarding these mats in decent quantities.
ArenaNet have said that what Ascended gear is now, was what exotics were supposed to be, but it didn’t end up that way at all. Exotics were far to easy to craft and/or acquire. Now, with Ascended weapons, you have to put some real work into crafting them.
If you are a casual player this gear is not for you. You won’t have the time to grind the mats needed and you won’t have a need for the gear in the first place.
Casual players aren’t running high level fractals and dungeon speed runs. They don’t min/max every little thing. We could debate what’s “casual” but this is how I see it. You’re welcome to disagree. But it seems to me ArenaNet wants these to be difficult to craft and if you’re not the kind of player who can do that, then you don’t get to complain about not having this gear. That’s like saying you deserve to have easy access to raiding gear even though you don’t have the time to raid in other games.
I’ve been doing jumping puzzles and even WvW, neither of which is my usual thing, in order to acquire Empyrean Fragments and Dragonite Ore. At this rate, to meet the high requirements (500 of each for 5 Empyrean Stars and 5 Dragonite Ingots) it’s going to take me forever.
Are the rewards for these better in fractals and dungeons? Are there events besides Scarlet invasions that reward them in better quantities? I want to acquire these at a faster pace.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Some mats are time-gated but then they are an ingredient in other mats which are not time-gated or account-bound and which you’ll be able to buy on the TP. If you’re willing to buy these mats on the TP, it seems to me you can overcome any time limits inherent in crafting the early-stage mats.
Are you sure you want to salvage this green item?
Yes, now, and yes a thousand times later.
So can we lose that annoying dialogue box, please? Keep it for rares and up but it doesn’t need to be there for greens. It makes salvaging take too long.
I see the OP was 4 days ago. I hope you’re glad that 2-handed weapons will indeed have 2 infusion slots. I know I am!
step 1 do world bosses
step 2 chuck green gear into forge
step 3 farm dungeons and buy the rare gear from CoF CoE HOTW vendor for 30 tokens each and salvage
tada ecto problem solved
INCORRECT, SIR!
Greens and blues will now be salvaged for Essences of Luck for Magic Find.
I hope you find this helpful/useful and please: share your own tips, too.
I’ve been running invasions almost around the clock. Some of these tips might seem basic and I don’t mean to seem as if I’m talking down to anyone. Just trying to help. If you already know something in this list, good for you!
- Be sure your bags are as empty as possible before jumping in, because you’re gonna have loot bursting at the seams. You don’t need gathering tools, extra weapons, minis, etc. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to buy or craft bigger bags, this is it.
- Don’t necessarily follow commanders. This creates zergs which make the invasion take longer to finish successfully. Look at the map and think for yourself: find other red circles to attack.
- Keep an eye on your map and UI for when you complete a red circle or vanquish a specific enemy (such as Aetherblade Captains). As soon as the event is over, get out of there! The faster you get away, the faster you get out of combat and can then check the map for where you want to go next. Don’t get tunnel vision and end up dead because everyone moved on but you. It doesn’t matter that there are still creatures around! The event is OVER if the red circle is gone from the map.
- There’s no need to fight Scarlet until the end. You’re just wasting time before then.
- Utilize food buffs that shorten condition duration or that regenerate health. Use “tech food” buffs (symbolized by the wrench icon) to give yourself increased toughness or vitality. These are sharpening stones, maintenance oils, and tuning crystals, found on the trading post.
- Stability and blocking or reflecting damage will also help tremendously.
- If a big boss is the objective (such as an Aetherblade Captain), try to focus on that boss and not spend time on minions around it. You want to burn that boss down as fast as possible so that event ends and you can move on to another.
- Aetherblade Strikers: use reflect/block/stun/interrupts/blindness on them. If you have strong melee, fight them in melee range. You most likely will not be able to outrange them. Cripple and/or chill them if you can.
- Aetherblade Thugs: Attack them at range and don’t let them close in. Their first attack upon engaging you is a thrown weapon, which you can dodge. If you get within range of their ridiculously overpowered attacks, use stability and/or damage mitigation as well as evades. Otherwise they’re going to knock you to the ground and beat you into the next Living Story.
- Aetherblade Grendadiers: Melee them if you can, otherwise have a speed boon up and be on the run so you’re ahead of their grenade tosses.
- Twisted Champions: These have 2 phases. In the first phase, they have 4 legs and use ranged attacks. In the second phase, 2 of their legs have been blown off in combat so now they walk on 2 legs and use physical/ melee attacks. For phase 1, melee is better because they will put up a shield that reflects ranged attacks. For phase, 2, ranged is better. Dodge their melee attacks if you can’t stay out of melee range (the tells for them are easily seen and take a long time to wind up so you have plenty of time).
- Destroy defeated twisted creatures by interacting with the orange gearwheels they leave behind. If you don’t, smaller twisted creatures will “eat” the remains of their fallen brethren and then form bigger/badder twisted. Only one player is needed to destroy these, so don’t waste time doubling up on them. After one wave of twisted is over, stomp as many of these as you can or the next wave will feast on them and be that much harder to beat (taking longer and making it less likely the overall event will succeed).
- The flying Twisted Menders heal the other creatures, so kill them quickly even though they don’t seem like big targets.
- The Twisted creatures will leave bombs that look like tiny helicopters and glow red. Get away from these as fast as possible.
- Be in a group. That way, if you accidentally disconnect or your game crashes, you can get back to the invasion. Because otherwise, you’ll end up in an overflow server where the event won’t be happening. You can right-click on your party member’s portraits and join them in the main world server. It’s also nice to have friends get your back and know you’re there for them.
That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. If I’m incorrect about something, let me know so I can correct it. If you have your own tips for making invasions go smoothly and successfully, please share them.
If a-net is going to add all these various new ascended armors (eventually) and weapons that we’ll need, then they need to take transmutation crystals off the gem store. It’s unfair that after being told our armor and weapons will be something that we never replace, we were then given new ones to replace the old with. End game is supposed to be about cosmetics, and now even that is being done away with due to harsh use of crystals coupled with ascended gear making the old exotic skins a moot point.
Make the gems something you buy in game for a sane price.
Could ArenaNet perhaps give more stones via normal gameplay? Maybe. Maybe quite a lot of people besides yourself feel they don’t receive enough through normal gameplay and they feel pressured to buy from the gem store.
If they could be sold on the TP, the price of them would probably end up so that sellers barely made a profit from flipping them. As it stands, you’re welcome to exchange gold for gems in order to buy transmutation stones.
They could be purchased via Laurels and that might not throw things out of balance while still making it easier for people to truly earn them but without spending money (beyond those awarded via normal gameplay, that is).
They definitely should not be purchasable with Karma, as we’re already practically drowning in the stuff.
Leashing is not a bug. Wrong forum.
Between this, the gigantic size of humanoid and charr enemies, the cardboard characterizations, and the overflow disaster (oh, gee, thanks, I guess I’ll wait another HOUR), this LS is starting to wear on me pretty quickly.
I too found it extremely off-putting to hear about Scarlet’s glorious and heretofore unmentioned accomplishments. Is she a “VillainSue”? Unfortunately, yes. In many ways the writing for Guild Wars 2 is excellent. Bobby Stein and the other writers should all be proud of their work. Scarlet is fun when you encounter her in combat. The voice acting by Tara is great. But the expositional writing about her as relayed by Vorpp made me cringe.
And before I could say “I bet Logan’s gonna double the patrols again,” Logan says he’s going to increase patrols! Logan is absolutely the most unbelievable cardboard cutout of a “good guy” I’ve ever seen. Please, guys, can you do better? I’d love to see better.
A lot of people like to drag out Trahearne as an example of characters the players dislike and the reasons are valid: he’s… wait for it: wooden. He’s a wet leaf. Is this because of the writing or the voice acting? Hard to say with him, but in his case I’ll blame the voice acting (or, more specifically, its directing).
From a writing/believability standpoint, let’s take a look at the three personal story mentor characters. Everyone loves Tybalt, it’s true, but his extreme personal sacrifice so soon after making full agent is just not believable. Same for the sylvari mentor of the Priory. The only mentor whose sacrifice is believable to me is Forgal. This is a combination of writing and voice acting. He was written as an older character who knew what he was doing, knew the stakes, and had a legacy to pass on to a protege. Also, he died like a norn should. And the voice actor for Forgal was perfect (again, all my opinion).
What I’m getting at is that Guild Wars 2 has a track record of unbelievable cardboard characters. I love this game and I would love even more to see this improved. Thank you to Bobby and all the writers for their tremendous work!
I tried that, as my guildie pointed me in that direction – but Vorpp is not giving me anything.
problem solved – but kind of a bug remains.
my problem was: other players were spawning Vorpp with their communicators. Vorpp holo looks… the same. like a normal NPC model, not a hologram. and any1 can interact with it (and ofc, it wont give you another holo communicator).Hmm, that’s odd. Vorpp definitely looks holographic for me when I (or other people) spawn him using the communicator. He’s got a green particle effect over him. Wonder if that’s something certain graphics options don’t display properly.
Just look for the one with the star above his head though, that should point you to the real one. Holograms don’t have that.
And yes Invictus, from what I hear you actually need to have the item on the character in order to get credit towards the achieve. At least that’s what people in Map Chat told me when I asked yesterday. I wasn’t going to test it myself to see how accurate it is, I’d rather er on the side of safety and grab it than spend 45 minutes and not get credit.
It needs to be the Vorpp by the portal. Multiple copies of Vorpps get spawned when other players use their communicators, which confuses things.
Deleted for kitten ness.
I see cogs showing up in the loot sidebar and I even had one in my inventory to click on in chat. But now I have no cogs at all, nor do I see them as a form of currency.
What’s up with that?
