Player wishes disregarded

Did I somehow get sent back in time to the SWToR forums before the collapse? I swear I read this same post there. Oh, never mind the names are different.

Calling a company on their mistakes doesn’t make you a bad guy. It makes you honest. If the company is worth a kitten they will listen. They might completely dismiss you and say “no this is our game, we are doing it our way”, but they will listen. Companies that don’t, well we’ve all seen the past. Even Blizzard is starting to realize this mistake, and they were so big no one ever thought they would lose out to a free to play game. (LoL)

I’d hardly call it a legitimate “mistake” to not put exactly what some players wanted in a hole in Divinty’s Reach. Something for those players to complain about, obviously, but it’s pretty unfair to title a post “Player wishes disregarded” over a patch that hasn’t even been fully released. Especially when simultaneously admitting that there are already things to be happy about in the patch.

Whenever someone says their opinion is the “obvious” one, it usually isn’t. Conviction does not correlate to correctness.

Who knows if what ArenaNet is doing here will turn out to be a mistake? No one will until later, but certainly not now.

It is absolutely fair to state this as player wishes being disregarded. People have expressed what they’d like to see out of that area of Divinity’s Reach. As far as we can tell, we’re getting absolutely nothing that resembles player speculation in the past. “Disregard” is about as fair and accurate of a description as you can get. If that’s not disregard, I don’t know what is.

ArenaNet put a big hole in Divinity’s Reach. Seems only natural people will want to know what’s down there. I can understand ArenaNet wanting to do something that’s better than expected and better than the product of a first pass at brainstorming. And I’m thrilled about the account wallet and champion loot changes, specifically. But I don’t like having an itch that might never get to be scratched, and I don’t mind saying so.

And yet we have not seen the area, so we can’t really assume it will be bad, now can we?
By the sound of it I would say it sounds way more fun than just “venturing into a hole and find out stuff”.

Nobody said the content they created for this won’t be fun. I’m sure it will be. Neither does “venturing into a hole to find out stuff” have to be as mundane as you’re trying to portray it (isn’t that pretty much every dungeon crawl, ever? ). We don’t know what goes on during the creative brainstorming sessions for this. It could very well be that they just couldn’t come up with a story they felt was compelling enough compared to the idea of the Queen’s Jubilee/1st-year anniversary of the game. Or it would’ve involved the Dredge, in which case I would have had mixed feelings about it because I simply hate the Dredge.

We have seen the area to an extent: the hole has been simply covered up with the pavilion/arena. I hope maybe there’s a secret entrance to darkness below…

For ages, it seems, there was a mysterious gigantic hole in Divinity’s Reach, teasing us with its potential. We wondered, pondered, and speculated. What could it become? A jumping puzzle? A new dungeon? Catacombs and/or sewers to explore? Would we ever find out why the collapse happened? (Never mind the possible ret-conning over the Cantha district that never was and alleged reasons as to why.)

Like others, I wanted to venture down into those depths. I wanted to discover something hidden and mysterious below the city most of my characters call home. The location would have been perfect for a jumping puzzle or a new dungeon or a new episode of the Living Story where we venture below-ground.

Whenever anyone has written about this in the forums, these are the wishes that are most often expressed.

There’s a lot to be happy about in the Queen’s Jubilee update: account currency wallets and better champion and dungeon loot are wonderful improvements.

But I’m disappointed that what many players anticipated and hoped for regarding the chasm in Divinity’s Reach simply appears to be utterly disregarded by ArenaNet.

Where is the 3rd heavy armor class at?

in Suggestions

biggs.4702

There’s too much overlap in weapon usage between professions for that to work. Other classes would get some of those weapons, too, and then where is the need for another profession in that case? A warrior or guardian could use polearms and halberds, for example.

Not that it’s impossible: look at all the exclusive weapons engineers have which no other profession has: turrets, grenades, and bombs.

But I think we’d have to answer the question: what role could be taken by a heavy armor profession that’s not already covered by warrior and guardian?

You know how I know it’s night in GW2? My Ghastly Greatsword glows.

Otherwise, unless I look up and make sure there are stars and a moon in the sky, I could easily not even notice what time of virtual day it is. When your camera is looking across at normal “eye level” in order to move about and play the game, it’s so bright it may as well not even be nighttime.

Nighttime should be darker. It should be scary. We have abilities that proc only at night… how about monsters and events that only spawn at night? It doesn’t have to be pitch black. Nighttime in WoW is much darker than in GW2 but you can still see what you’re doing.

So, please: bring on the night!

Not only this, Anet should make backpieces and aqua breathers finally craftable.

Both by a new Crafting Jobs

Aqua Breathers should be craftable by Anglers, which should also craft Angling Rods and diversive non living angling baits, while living angling baits could be found at shores and in the water or in the ground (wurms)

Back Items should be craftable by “Antiquers” which would also craft “toys” and other usable environmental items

Well, Breathers are considered part of your armor so logically Armorsmiths would make them and backpieces are in a jewelry slot so Jewelers should make those.

Yes, rebreathers should be craftable by armorsmiths, leatherworkers, and tailors respectively for heavy, medium, and light armor types.

If anything were to change, I’d want to see guardians have offensive-boosting boons removed from their arsenal such as might or fury, to make the division of labor between guardians and warriors more clear regarding which profession boosts what.

Dual wielding sigils

The way I understand it is that you can’t have two sigils of the same type, but otherwise you’re good to go. I’ve used dual sigils which have stacking mechanics (condition damage and healing) and I notice their little stack icons above my action bar so I can see they’re working.

As a D/D elementalist, I don’t have any main hand vs. off-hand attacks, though: it’s always with both hands at the same time. If you’re playing a melee profession that has main hand and different off-hand attacks, your sigil procs will only occur when you use attacks for that hand. So if you use your off-hand attacks (#4 and #5 buttons) infrequently you won’t see as much benefit from the sigil you put on your off-hand.

But, c’mon… there has to be SOMETHING. Even if you invent new abilities entirely for underwater. I could envision something that works like the plague necro ability where you go around spreading fire, chilling, electrocuting, sinking, etc. mobs in a similar fashion (instead of giving them plague).

Are you serious? Invincible Class...

in Guardian

Posted by: biggs.4702

biggs.4702

I would like to know why Anet would put in a class that can tank a whole team of 5 for 2 to 3 minutes in a game that is supposed to be all balanced classes. Elementalists can’t do this. Warriors can’t do this. Why are Guardians the only one?

You’re not talking about a profession, you’re talking about a player and player skill.

Maybe you don’t realize that, because you’re frustrated, but it’s almost certainly the case. I’ve seen every single profession in this game do amazing things when played with skill. Other day a guildie of mine who plays a rifle engineer soloed two champions for quite some time in the asura disco fractal (I don’t remember what it’s really called, that’s just what I call it for laughs).

We were gobsmacked. We all lay there, dead, while he soloed a golem and an ettin. He would have beat them if some buggy timer hadn’t caused him to just up and reset (we were heartbroken, it was so epic).

I’ve seen elementalists completely shred 3 to 5 opponents in WvW.

So please, don’t come in here saying such things as guardians are “invincible.” You just saw someone with skill playing one, that’s all.

I can't choose, Guardian or Warrior?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: biggs.4702

biggs.4702

Warriors and guardians have access to the same number of weapons:

Warrior:

  • sword
  • shield
  • greatsword
  • hammer
  • axe
  • mace
  • rifle
  • longbow
  • warhorn

Guardian:

  • sword
  • shield
  • hammer
  • greatsword
  • mace
  • scepter
  • focus
  • torch
  • staff

Warriors have a little more flexibility with combining weapons because they can dual-wield swords, maces (not that you’d want dual mace, lol) and axes, whereas guardians cannot dual-wield anything.

Warriors have better ranged damage in my opinion: rifle and longbow outshine staff and scepter any day.

Guardians, however, are unbelievably tough and utilitarian. Their condition/boon abilities are, in my opinion more flexible and powerful than a warrior’s. And condition/boon management is a very big deal in this game, especially at higher levels and in dungeons/pvp.

why few people use food or potion buffs?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: biggs.4702

biggs.4702

Food (apple icon) and tech (wrench icon) are not a waste at all considering how cheap they are. Each gives you a 10% experience boost. You may think that doesn’t matter if you’re 80 but it does because your “fake levels” give you new skill points and you’ll need those to buy mats for a legendary weapon in the future.

The main reason, however, is magic find or a buff for a specific purpose. I love to boost my magic find. On the tech food side, you have potions and oils and stones. There are two groups of mobs in this game I hate more than anything: risen and dredge. I have potions that give me 10% extra damage to these mobs and also reduce my incoming damage from them by 10%.

That is nothing to sneeze at.

If you don’t want to use food buffs, then you don’t need good armor or weapons, either, because, hey, what’s a few percentage points, right?

Of course that’s stupid. So eat your food.

It’s good for you.

Guild Wars 2 - Nice Community?

Don’t forget to write a ticket if you experience insults, rude behaviour and verbal abuse via name calling in the game, to support a friendly community.

Thank you.

This.

So much.

The community is not something “other people” take care of, manage, or moderate.

We do this.

Or we don’t. In either case, we get the community we deserve.

I’ve seen Reddit threads in the past on why people got suspended or banned, and it comes down to what players say to each other directly instead of to the public. For example if you swear in map chat as a general statement “Those F-word karka!” that’s not too big of a deal. But if you call someone a name (“You F-word C-word, etc.”) that is reportable and action will be taken. That’s the gist of it, anyway (correct me if I’m wrong).

So if you really value any possibility of having a decent community in this game and keeping it that way, do not be afraid to report people. It takes all of 5 seconds to do so. Nothing about it needs to be said to anyone else, just do it and keep it to yourself.

I love the idea of being able to buy a bulk waypoint “pass.”

But look, seriously, if waypoint costs are that much of a problem for you, then I politely suggest you need to reexamine your gameplay. If you don’t have enough money to waypoint, it’s not that waypoints cost too much. It’s because you are not earning enough money, and that responsibility is entirely upon your shoulders (no, sorry, the game is not badly designed ). There are a great many tips online for how to make more money in this game and it might be worth your time to look that up.

I realize this probably isn’t what you want to hear, but I believe it to be true and I’m not calling you a nub or laughing at you or looking down on you. This is a sincere effort to help.

Probably the biggest tips I can give people for make sure things stay nice:

  • Don’t react immediately and emotionally
  • Discuss the ideas, not the person and avoid accusatory language
  • Always remember you may be wrong and that there’s other ways to look at things
  • Consider whether what you’re about to say or do will make another player’s game experience less enjoyable or more enjoyable and go for “more enjoyable.”

From the recent AMA: Cities as dungeons

in Suggestions

Posted by: biggs.4702

biggs.4702

I somehow missed this little tidbit from the AMA but the folks on Guildcast of Gamebreaker TV were talking about it and it really got me thinking.

In the AMA Chris mentioned the idea of “cities as dungeons” as something the devs were kicking around, so I just have to offer up my suggestion for this.

In divinity’s reach , an awful lot of space is unusable because of a gigantic, mysterious sinkhole which we know nothing about. We don’t know how it happened, when it happened, or why.

But if that thing’s not a grand opportunity for an instance, I don’t know what is!

Other possibilities:

  • The sewers under Lion’s Arch (involving skritt or quaggan)
  • The arena in the Black Citadel (think “tournament of champions”)
  • A dungeon to repair the apparatus in Rata Sum
  • Sons of Svanir secret cult headquarters in Hoelbrak
  • Saving the Pale Tree from attack/infection

If by “cities as dungeons” what was meant was that there is some kind of city-wide catastrophe which must me overcome, and players have free reign within an instanced version of the entire city, well that would be totally awesome, also. Something on that scale may even be a great opportunity to have parties of greater than 5 people, or perhaps more than one party of 5 in the instance simultaneously.

One more thing: if that floating castle at Wizard’s Fief doesn’t ever become a dungeon I am going to be sorely disappointed!

Here are some ideas of what I’d like to see introduced into the game at some point:

  • New hairstyles & colors, faces, and tattoos not available in original character creation. I’m sure many people would want more choice built into the game anyway, and I certainly wouldn’t disagree with that, but if it’s a matter of justifying devoting the resources to such a thing, increased profits might do it for ya, ArenaNet.
  • Survival Pack: A three-stack each of Revive Orbs, Repair Cannisters, Trading Post merchants, and “normal” item merchants, all in one package.
  • More town clothes. Honestly I can’t fathom why these aren’t in there, already, since models already exist and are already in use on NPCs throughout the game. It doesn’t always have to be something spectacular with special powers. Some people just want to put town pants on their female characters instead of a dress, or wear something more formal or more casual. Won’t somebody think of the roleplayers?
  • Party boxes, similar to the fun chests. You could have a picnic party box, a beach party box, a camping trip box. Click on the box and it spawns a little tableau and creates temporary costume effects for players (like a Mystery Tonic). Again, roleplayers especially would just eat these up.

I already have a level 80 character that has completed the story. It was a slow and tedious grind that I found very boring. I’m starting a second character [currently level 10-20] and all I want is for it to max to level 80 as soon as possible so it can play the funner end game [dungeons, etc].

I need some tips for this…

The absolute biggest experience dealers are:

1) Dungeons
2) Story quests
3) Dynamic events
4) Crafting

Use food and potions to give you an xp boost as you level (no need for xp boosts).

I very much like ranged on a warrior: both the rifle and the longbow rock. However since you’ve said that’s not an option for you, I’d suggest ranger, elementalist or necromancer. I see others speaking about rangers and eles but no one saying much about necros.

In short, necros rule. You have really sick (in some cases, literally, lol) attacks and everything is ranged. Of course as with eles, daggers are the shortest range, axes and scepters are mid range (although I have to say on necros, scepter is really good) and staff has the longest range.

If you dislike the whole minion thing you can still totally kick butt without using minions.
