Can We Remove Event DR?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: boredinbc.2786

boredinbc.2786

I have not experienced any loss in exp/money/karma from the portal events. I’m actually doing the events though, from start to finish, not just tagging and running to the next. The DE DR doesn’t kick in that quickly for it to effect you if you are doing these normally, unless you’ve already been in the zone for a while farming something else.

I have apparently hit a different kind of DR, maybe. After doing like 8 invasions today I just got a single piece of scrap as a fail reward for one, failing worse in the past has provided me with a choice of 40 scrap or 4 boxes along with the other money/exp/karma/item rewards. I got nothing but a single piece of scrap though, and I participated plenty. Not sure if it glitched or if you do so many invasions in one day they stop giving rewards.

I had this happen also, as it turns out the rewards for invasion completion are once per zone per day. So if you have already done that zone today all you will receive is DE rewards and drops plus one scrap.

Reason to hate focus.

Why Are Mesmer Phantasms Undodgeble?

in Mesmer

Posted by: boredinbc.2786

boredinbc.2786

The people arguing against dodging aren’t making any sense. If we say “mesmer don’t have a lot of damage if you can dodge it” then we could say the same for almost anything. “s/d thieves don’t have a lot of damage outside larc strike, make it undodgeable” “GS guards don’t have a lot of damage outside whirling wrath, make it 600 radius and undodgeable”. Why should any class get unavoidable skills?

Well,
Why do you believe it makes any sense that you should get two chances to dodge our attacks (At phantasm spawn and their actual attack) when we should only get one chance to dodge yours (When your damage occurs)?

You’re supposed to dodge the damage, not the setup.
It is that way with every profession.

Maybe i dont understant what you tried to say. Are you saying that is fair to have to dodge two times when you only use 1 skill/utility? Did i get this right?

Phantasm damage is parsed out over several attacks. In order for a phantasm to live up to its potential it must get off more than one attack. You are not disadvantaged by having to dodge more than once, if you dodge once and fail the next one that’s still 50% damage mitigation.

Perhaps you would prefer if phantasm damage was doubled or tripled but self destruct after one attack?

Invasion subject to DR or time lock?

in Clockwork Chaos

You can only gain the final invasion reward once per map per day. So if you already fought off an invasion since the daily reset on that map you won’t get the reward at the end if you do it again.

That answers my question completely. Thanks!

Our server successfully completed an invasion including Scarlet and I only received 1 shoulder scrap as a reward. Several others said the same thing. I was part of the event from the beginning and it was the first invasion that I did in about 12 hours.

Is this intended? Are the rewards only once per day? Yesterday I was getting rewards each time whether the event succeeded or failed. I understand that the boss completion for Scarlet is limited to once a day.

Thanks.

Just popping in here to note: today’s hotfix has gone live and the karma change has been reverted. Those who spent karma today will be refunded. The office is closed for the night, so this process will start when the team is back in the office and able to work on it. Thanks.

Well that’s a relief cause when that karma change happened i blew 248 jugs over 800 drops and near 1k drips. Will be nice to get all that back….

Plague. I so not think we will be getting them back. The fix notes read that those who spent karma, not used karma consumables. I hope I am wrong.

Also, an increase in quality is in order. They won’t bring it to Master, as that would position it in competition with Mystic kits, but Journeyman would be nice.

If vendor prices went up, so would TP prices. Vending for kitten money encourages people to post items to the market. As for soulbound items, you can salvage them an list the mats.

Considering that 90% of items are actually worthless in this game, vendor prices are not that bad.

Salvaging kits for blues/greens

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: boredinbc.2786

boredinbc.2786

I’ve been playing a while and I started out by salvaging stuff for materials, saving stuff I gathered and crafting the resulting materials.

I eventually worked out that it’s a mug’s game.

I’m not going into the math – but I found that the cost of the salvage kit plus the TP/vendor value of the item was consistently greater than the materials value.

I also realised that if I sold the gathered materials on the TP at high asking price, I could usually buy back at lower cost or evens.

End of story – I sell everything, absolutely everything, asking the highest price the market will bear. Including exotics, rares, blues, greens and the so called ‘salvage items’.
If I EVER want something back – for crafting maybe, I offer the lowest bid price on the TP and wait for a seller.

I rapidly became seriously gold-rich and the stuff continues to pile up in my wallet.
I’ve had the ‘economists’ in the crafting forum argue with me quite aggressively about this and I’m not about to start another argument here.

Take it or leave it.

I do this as well. With the exception of salvage items, which I salvage ( no reason, I haven’t done the math, but it likely works in favor of selling), I sell everything at the highest currently listed price be it vendor or TP. Most of my stuff is vendored. I have never been cash poor doing this.

Type: Its a staff

Precursor: ???

Stowed: Looks like a long wooden staff, with maybe a ball, or some sort of rectangular thing in the top. Some carvings along the shaft, I don’t know, nothing too gaudy or intricate. I wouldn’t want to put too much stress on the design team.

Wielded: don’t let the humble look fool you, even though The Staff has no particle effects or visual tomfoolery, it is a powerful artifact no doubt. One could use it to reach things just past arms length. Use it to shoo small animals, or lean on it when injured. The Stakitten possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

never played a MMORPG,is ranger a good class?

in Players Helping Players

boredinbc.2786

Honestly every class in this game is a good one, don’t believe anyone who says otherwise. Rangers get to use pets, which when used properly help keep the heat off of you while you lay down damage. This makes it especially suited to someone new to the genre.

Here’s some specific advice.

- Click H, select Weapon skills. This is a list of all the weapons you have access to, there is no level restriction, so go to a vendor grab one of each and play with them until you unlock every skill on every weapon. Even the underwater ones.

- Grab some gathering tools and a salvage kit. Start collecting.

- Work your way through the zone heading from heart to heart based on level, but be sure to do as many dynamic events as you can…like everytime they pop up. That is how you get most of your XP.

Here’s a link to the ranger page on the wiki – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ranger

And yes, you can train lots of pets.

Recovering clicker, still need work...

boredinbc.2786

Like the title says, I’m a recovering clicker. I’d say I’m 70/30 split, keys to clicks, maybe better. In some ways I’m a better player, but sometimes it feels worse, while I am no longer as static on the battlefield, I feel like I am more disorganized and often have trouble coordinating my key strokes while moving properly. Ive used WASD and EFSD, with EFSD being a small improvement, and obviously moving my 6-0 keys to more natural positions. I’ve played around with a freinds Naga but didn’t like the lack of differentiation on the keys, as well as being unable to use my thumb along the left side of the mouse for stability. I’ve a firm grip.

I bought a Steelseries Merc Stealth today, based on some good reviews. I’ve only been using it for a few hours, but honestly I’m a hot mess! Now instead of being torn between EFSD and clicking Ive added a third variable into the mix. Lol. I also did not even consider how much I’d miss the tactile feedback of cherry reds.

Any tips from anyone on a good setup/layout, or just tips in general on beating the habit for good? I’m sure that I’ll adapt and get better at using the built in pad, I’m just jealous when I read about people adapting to it after a few hours or days, when I couldn’t even fully break the clicking habit after months of playing.

Toss in no more then 10 of each thing a day! ( 10×4 rares, 10×4 exotics, 10x runs ext ) any more will return a less likely chance for something good. ( still a chance if your lucky )

Pretty much every class can bring damage to a PVE encounter now a days. Necro and Ranger used to be less welcome in groups, I believe that’s mostly in the past now. I’d pick a class based on pay style.

Something about the mesmer clicked with me, maybe it’s darting in and out of close quarters combat, maybe it’s slashing a foe with a sword then shooting him in he face, but mostly it’s about death by purple butterflies. Keep paying around, level a few alts to 20+, watch some YouTube and Twitch players and find something that you respond too. After all its all the same button clicks, just a different order.

Then focus on your clovers as they will provide you with a lot of t6 mats. Never farm your mats, farm gold instead. Do your dailies/monthly for laurels and save your jugs of karma and use them all at once while enjoying the +50% karma booster you likely acquired and then smartly saved while finishing off your map completion.

Use a Karma Booster + Banner (Preferably Karma + Experience Banner or Heroes Banner for the 10% instead of 5% from Karma Banner) + Guild Karma Boost + Ice Cream + (if you have the excess Laurels) Karmic Infusion. This will get you 95% Karma Boost without counting your achievement points.

If the increase from 400 to 500 crafting adds an additional tier of resources the value of t6 mats could drop drastically. Putrid essences are not currently undervalued given what they can be used for, investing in them now hoping that they will be used in future crafting recipes is purely speculative.

You could always try the Moa track.

that or go up drastic depending on how they say we need to make the mats for 500:)

Absolutely. The point I was trying to make is that based on what we we know, the best we can do is guess. It’s not even a good educated guess either, it’s a gamble.

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: boredinbc.2786

boredinbc.2786

^ Honestly, they are all good ideas.

The issue is that none of the content is really that dynamic to begin with. 20 unique events turns into just another grind, because the events themselves are not really unique, they are just the set zone events on a repeat.

The living story updates need to be woven into the zones, make those bi weekly updates seem genuinely alive, not just tacked on, or segregated to a single zone or instanced space. Integrate a few unique daily/monthly achievements(and represent Rata Sum in the pavilion is not a unique daily, it’s just another kill X) which give players an incentive to go out and explore find new event chains and maybe a new world boss every now and again. The daily/monthly achievements currently fit well in a non specific do this and that kind of way, which is good, but only so long as the world we are doing them in remains interesting.

Queen's Jubilee: What Went Wrong

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: boredinbc.2786

boredinbc.2786

The world content was really tedious. It was the same thing copied and pasted into each zone. Three very standard non dynamic quest events chained together and the conclusion of fighting the queens champion made zero sense in the context of the previous two quests. Why are we fighting this champion again? Where were they when the nobles were attacked? Why is this exact situation repeated over 30 zones?

Well at least I got a balloon.

Gauntlet is not my thing really, but the camera angles, oh Lordy!

The pavilion was a success because it gave people what they were looking for. They mirrored it off of players doing champ trains in the open world. I would have preferred it for the instanced zone to allow fewer players and to start with all 6 bosses spawned, each actually adding an effect or debuff to the whole zone. A smaller Zerg would need to organize better and correctly choose which bosses to kill and in what order to make the harder champions doable. Once all 6 are killed a centre champion spawns….epic kill time. You win, loot, zone out. Repeat.

That was actually how I envisioned this content playing out from the developers description of it. Zone wide debuffs, groups of 30 players working together, gradually making progress deeper into the zone….not 100 people trying to mindlessly dodge out of the telegraphs and endless waves of veterans spawning within seconds of each other, while the hive mind rushes the boss and then farms for cores.

Grind, grind, grind..... boring.

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: boredinbc.2786

boredinbc.2786

I don’t really know where to start… No to pretty much everything. Anet does not need to rebalance its whole looting process over one piece of temporary content. Enjoy the loots in the pavilion while they last, it’s boring as sin, but everything has a price.

Instead of a weekly daily as you suggested we could instead have a monthly daily, it’s like 30 dailies stitched together, or if that’s not to your liking how about a weekly monthly, it’s the same as your weekly daily, but 4 times as fun. Don’t worry, you can have 4 times as much time to complete it.

Lots of people love the new area. It’s not for everyone, but it is essentially a champ train, something that lots of players were doing out in the open world, except this one is designed with the specific purpose of being farmed. Plus the area balances levels upwards, so while a new player can’t champ train in ORR with their lvl 80 pals, they can do it here. It also, at least temporarily addresses the changes to dungeon paths which have made CoF less profitable. WvW will be fine, this content will disappear and people will flood back. Instead of redesigning the whole world around this patch they could spend some time on the culling and performance issues in WvW.

Edit: Sorry if I came across snarky, it’s not what I intended, but none of the things you mentioned really related to the topic of this thread. Nothing presented here actually changes the games grind centric approach to content. If you don’t like dailies and monthlies, weeklies will not help, and 10x more loot doesn’t change how that loot is acquired.

It would be improved immensely with the addition of a unsheathing animation and persistent aura. A sound playing when drawn would be very appropriate.

Elementalists do compete with the top. Just probably not using the weapon you want. There is no single ranged dps spell caster, or even just ranged dps in this game. Each classes abilities are defined by their weapon sets and are balanced off of close and long range abilities. Typically the closer you get the more damage you can do, while the farther back you are the safer but potentially weaker you are. This is hugely simplified and has many exceptions, but grab some dual daggers and with Ele and you will bring the pain.

The game was designed so that your weapons /= your build. Keep a copy of each weapon you can use available and don’t be afraid to switch it around depending on the circumstances.

I play a mesmer that is constantly changing her pistol for a focus and her GS for a staff. GS on mesmer is one of the exceptions I mentioned earlier its auto attack gets stronger at range, but does next to nothing up close.
