The fact that most of these items ever existed is just blatantly a bug. The decision to throw cooldowns on them were for server performance/stability as the patch notes said, not for balance. Period. This was something that was long overdue.
Wow!
And here I thought ranger pets were the biggest blatant bugs in the game!
Since there are so many of these pets around, are you going to put these on a 30 min CD as well??
Perhaps this is the ‘big changes’ for rangers the livestream muppets were going on about…
After reading both event descriptions, I can predict on my server (Gunner’s Hold), we will be extremely lucky to get the Wurm event done once.
As for the LS robot/puppet, it will get done in prime-time for a week or so, then forgotten…
The only useful thing in Bloodtide Coast is the Whisperers gate to Fort Trinity and the odd resource node close to LA.
It was already a pretty dead map, and after a week, this new boss will make it more so.
I pity any player who has not mapped this already.
Remember when we where going to get big things back in Nov 2012 and then we got underwater buffs and a year of dev blackout?
Not saying it’s impossible but they always seem to give us a nerf/buff/nerf sandwich and label it as an improvement.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
This^
And, let me remind everyone that Jon Peters (lead Anet dev) said a few months back, right here in this forum, that ranger pets are broken and cannot/will not be fixed.
I will repeat: PETS ARE BROKEN
Why anyone wants more of something broken and not working properly is beyond me.
The big changes I want to see is ranger pets deleted from the game and the associated damage output shifted to the ranger. This might make or weapons and utilities actually useful. Anything else is simply a waste of time.
I never had a problem with character names I want being in use.
Before making a new toon, I go to webs sites listing names or that have name generators. For example, if creating a norn, I check out Scandinavian name sites. For sylvari, there are elven name sites, etc.
Furthermore, to keep things consistent and so guildies know which toons are mine, I use the first 3 letters in my user name for all my toons.
So, in your case, try using ‘Kit____’ . This will individualise your toon much more than trying to use some variation of a popular name.
EDIT: Only issue I have had using a Scandinavian name for my norn is getting whispers in Norwegian …

Power shatter mes here and I agree with Arewn.
I currently trait for Deceptive Evasion, but the nerf for me will not be a game changer as long as Anet increases other clone gen methods.
So glad I avoided the ascended crafting zerg…
The next few months will be so fun on this forum!
<gets jumbo bucket of popcorn>The changes to runes will impact anyone running mix-and-match sets. Plus, there will be speculation in runes on the TP, so prices will go up. Some of the current crap runes selling for 3 silver might actually become useful.
Two sigil slots in 2-handed weapons will be nice and coupled with the streamlining of cooldowns should make sigils easier to deal with.
As long as the ranger class mechanic is borked and cannot/will not be fixed (admitted by Jon Peters awhile back…) there is no hope for this class.
All else is just fluff and of little importance. Even the sword thing because anyone using it has learned to deal with it by now.
The largest impact incoming for rangers will be the changes to crit damage, and the changes to runes and sigils.
OP. you are aware that some applied conditions like bleed are capped, yes??
So, if you are attacking a target with SB and another player or two are attacking the same target, you hit the 25 cap on bleed very quickly. This makes all your SB bleed stacking buffs pretty useless unless you do a lot of solo play/exploration.
And yes, you discovered one of the main problems with rangers, the class is crap with ranged weapons. My shatter mesmer is much more effective at ranged combat than my ranger.
Oh, and sword/xxx is the best DPS weapon for a ranger, and does a lot of condition damage as well. It is worth the time investment to learn it. It plays a lot differently than warrior sword, and you might actually like it in the end.
EDIT: Your pet selection with this is pretty important as well, it represents around 30% of your damage output.

I want to know where you live that everyone considers laws optional. Now speeding laws I understand
I live in Italy ..
Does it mean that any rule/law/ordinance that is easily bypassed is useless? If that is the case then most rules/laws/ordinances are wastes of time since they are easily avoided/broken/bypassed. I’m sorry I just don’t understand that reasoning.
Essence, you need to get out more …
I live in a country where 60 million people consider all rules/laws/ordinances to be ‘optional’ In fact, if you are not running a scam or breaking one rule/law or another, you are considered a fool.
Part of the reason why this happens is because there are too many rules/laws that people deem useless and/or not in their interest and the government does not have the resources or desire to enforced them all.
I am not following the backwards chaining as it’s origin is not pertinent to the situation at hand. I am further baffled by why so many believe it is acceptable basis of refute. Try to extrapolate that logic to other situations to see how well it works.
Of course it is not logical.
This is about human nature which is, as we all know, very far from being logical …
I would suggest you try Gandara.
I used to find this event soo boring until I started using the charrzookas in phase 1 and switching to flame throwers in phase 2. Now I only do this event for the fun of using these weapons!
Another ‘hint’…
At the beginning of phase 2, just after the Claw lands do not run up to the darker blue section in front of the Claw. You will only get downed from the frost waves.
Wait about half way between the cannons and Claw until you hear the npc say, “the wall is down”. Then run forward to attack and make sure you break off the attack and get out of the dark blue section when you see Claw shift the front foot.
Then the fun begins flaming all the ice bits that pop up!
I recently crafted the corrupted dagger.
The Etched ‘precursor’ is completely transformed and it’s stats/sigil does not effect the output. All the Etched ’precursor’s ’ are lvl 80 weapons.
Does it mean that any rule/law/ordinance that is easily bypassed is useless? If that is the case then most rules/laws/ordinances are wastes of time since they are easily avoided/broken/bypassed. I’m sorry I just don’t understand that reasoning.

Well, Colin’s ‘plan’ forcing WvW on players doing map completion backfired with me.
Once I finished 100% world on my first toon, I never stepped foot in WvW again, and that was over a year ago.
If this was expanding every storage slot instead of just the collectables tab, then it would be worthwhile.
Instead of buying this I am building a second gbank tab …
The easy part:
ranger: norn or human
warrior: charr or norn
I play PvE only…
Been playing a ranger since launch, and just got a charr warrior to lvl 31. I did this mainly to complete the charr story line and going to delete this toon because I do not like the charr animations and the profession is just too boring for me.
Rangers are great to solo open world, harvest mats and run champ trains, but go with full berserker stats, concentrate on stacking might, and use high DPS pets (cats). Sword/xxx traited properly is your best DPS weapon, bows are just too weak. After playing a guardian, the ranger greatsword is a wet noodle. Also, axe off-hand is very nice.
Sword takes a bit of getting used to, so there is a learning curve with the weapon, but well worth it. You become highly mobile and need to be aware of your surroundings so you don’t launch yourself off a cliff or into something you are trying to evade.
I run the Frostgorge champ train a lot, using sword/warhorn and get steady 2k dmg and with a good might stack and flanking, I can get up to 5-6k dmg on the champ kodan and norn. This does not include the damage the pet does as well.
There is a fundamental question everyone seems to be missing here:
How is wealth defined in this game??
Is it just gold on hand, or gold plus stored mats/items?
It is only thing you can sell or do you include account/soulbound things like purchased cultural/faction items, and MF crafted items?
Is a player with The Emperor title and 50g less wealthy than a player with 500g and no cultural items??
(edited by bri.2359)
Ah, long gone are the hours spent running the pent/shelter/jofast events …
I so miss the old Cursed Shore ….
Leather is low because demand is low. It was available when ascended weapons came out thus producing a surplus due to it not having a use. Medium armor classes are engineer, thief, and ranger. How many players play them compared to light and heavy armor classes?
Err …
Next time you are in game, count the number of rangers you see …
There are probably as many of rangers playing as all 3 light armour professions combined!
Yes, the demand for leather is low cos most of the medium armour wearing professions are smart enough to realise ascended armour is not needed, is a massive waste of time and a gold sink.
I just got The Legend on my 4th or 5th MF try with 3 random exotics and a MF stone.
I wasn’t trying for it and was just dumping crafted exotics after leveling artificer to 500.
I was wondering does anyone else think the game needs some serious polish?
Yup, I sure do, but this goes far beyond just polish.
Look at the mess with the ranger pet. This was such a poorly designed mechanic, the Anet lead dev admits they cannot fix it.
With the new games coming out in 2014, I can see many players fed up with this moving on.
This build is 1.5 years old, runs all games at max graphics settings and high FPS

Lol! I like this idea!
For those suggesting to keep it in anticipation for some grand change on Anet’s part I see this ending in disappointment. The case with ascended rings is a fine example.
Regarding the rampager stats, yes they are not the worst, but they are not appropriate for any of my 3 lvl 80’s and no plans to change this.
I like Lord Kuru’s suggestion.
If indeed Anet is monitoring this, it will be worth sending the message …
Besides, I have no interest or use for ascended kit, apart from making shed loads of gold selling mats to players who are!
Rarity doesn’t determine value.
Indeed …
This drop was rampager, none of my toons use this stat. Plus, the this armour looks so terrible, it is not even useful as a skin.
The sad part is someone might want this, and I cannot even give it away,
This is so stupid …
I do not consider that was a ‘lucky’ drop …
A lucky drop would be something useful, this wasn’t one of those …
Last evening I had an ascended armour drop with stats I don’t want.
It cannot be salvaged, it is account bound so cannot sell it on the TP or even give it away.
I can vendor the chest for 3 silver or extract a piece and vendor that for 2 silver…
Any suggestions on what to do with it??
I run a shatter mes 20/20/0/0/30, and do not trait for mantras and have 0% boon duration. I have no plans to change this for a build just to max stability …
Thanks Ryn,
My sylvari mes will be spending a lot of time on her kitten then …
I am new to this profession, so perhaps I am missing something.
I cannot find any utilities that provide stability. The only one I have seen is a mantra that gives 2 secs of stability, but 2 secs is nigh useless.
I have a both ranger and guardian that have utilities that provide decent stability. Where is the equivalent for mesmers? Is this an oversight or bug?
What do mesmers do for stability?
Crikey, one player is afraid of a few wolves in a low-level map, another wants all the wood nodes clustered around one wp. Next you will want all the wood auto-loaded into your bank when you log on …
And yes, the existence of nodes is very much to the point of discussion. The reason why softwood planks require 4 logs is because there are nodes in so many maps!
Diessa Plateau is probably the best map for softwood and iron ore, both of which you need plenty of. There is a permanent rich iron node in the same place, everyday. Most of the softwood is located in two areas close to wp’s for the particularly lazy players. One is in the west close to the rich iron node, the other is the east where the vet oakhearts wander. Furthermore, if you run (use a speed booster if this is so painful) along the south road between these two areas, you will find even more iron ore and softwood.
In this topic we will be discussing Character Progression.
We will be talking about both horizontal and vertical progression and I hope we can stay focused on what is in game now and what we would like to see in the future.
Chris, didn’t UK schools teach you the first rule of planning for the future is studying the past ??
Let me provide a brief historical summary:
1- This issues was first raised Nov 2012, there were thousands of posts. I suggest you go back to those and have a good long read.
2- It is clear that Anet will keep on doing what ever it deems fit regardless of what the player-base suggests
Refusing to discuss/review or even change past decisions is as pointless as this CDI topic and this entire initiative.
Oh, and here is something for the future:
2014 is almost here and with it will be a flurry of new games, both MMO and single player varieties. Meanwhile GW2 is in a sorry state, with bugs and class balance issues going back to release. For example, the class mechanic for the ranger is so broken, you cannot, or do not want, to fix it.
The clock is ticking on GW2 to get these things sorted over the next 2-3 months, yet here you are fiddling while Rome burns with a CDI topic that is one year too late!
Running the Queensdale champ train will quickly level you up to 80.
Due to how the node locations are set up some places are better to gather than others.
The ideal locations are multiple nodes “near” a WP. There are a couple of these around in Gendarran Fields, Harathi Hinterlands and Fields of Ruin for soft wood. There might be some in Brisban Wildlands as well but I don’t spend enough time there to know.
Softwood nodes are plentiful
Try Diessa Plateau, Kessex Hills, Snowden Drifts, Lornar’s Pass as well.
Something to keep in mind regarding those stacking sigils.
You loose the stack if you are downed, and if you change maps. You then need to re-fill the stack again, and this can be very annoying. I used to use the perception sigil on my ranger way back, and switched over to sigils of strength.
However, in your case your crit chance is not that great to use sigils that have a 30% chance to trigger on crits. I would suggest using a straight up damage sigil like force instead of stacking sigil.
(edited by bri.2359)
I have a human ranger and a norn guardian. If I had to it over, I would swap them around, so I would suggest going norn for your ranger.
As for female norns … Mine was created with the smallest size settings the sliders would allow. This helped when doing some of the JP’s/vistas you need for map completions. I hate jumping puzzles, so doing the non map completions ones on any character is out-of-the-question.
Norn females are voiced by Claudia Christian, the actor from the Babylon V sci-fi series (Cmdr. Susan Ivanova).
The topic will be around Player Progression: Horizontal vs Vertical Progression.
This horse left the barn Nov 2012 …
I opened 60 BLC’s with the recent key sale and I recall seeing at least 2 of the Caith minis and perhaps a Scarlet one pop out as well. My interest in them was such that I didn’t even bother checking if they were tradable, let alone have any value!
I just sent them to my bank and forgot they dropped until I saw this thread.I find it quite extraordinary that anyone would buy (with gold or $) tickets for a lottery with odds far worse than the tickets you can buy at a convenience store.
Humm … This a matter of perspective.
I buy keys when they are on sale to open chests with no particular purpose in mind. I am mainly looking for useful consumables, i.e. repair canisters, BL salvage kits various boosters and the like.
Those 60 chests netted me shed load of this stuff, enough to last me for months, so this far from playing a lottery for me. The fact that more valuable things like minis, backbacks and weapon skin tickets drop is a bonus.
I agree that anyone buying keys for the sole purpose of expecting a particular item to drop is playing a bad lottery.
Think about a new player starting out. Say the game was given as a present or purchased during a sale. For10 euro that player can buy 800 gems and exchange for almost 50g!
When I started playing at game launch, 50g was a small fortune. It took me months of open world play to get that. Now a new player can get this right at the start.
Considering how volatile the rate has been, I would say we are closing on the point where selling gems for gold is attracting more participants.
Selling 100 gems will get you 6g right now.
So yes, this is beginning to look more attractive.
I appreciate the feedback, everyone. Looks like I’ll be sticking to Mesmer.
Time for you to head over to the Mesmer forums then. It’s a very active forum and lots of help/advice to go around.
And to help you get through those painful early levels, Lazy Kai has written an excellent guide: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-Kai-s-Complete-PvE-Compendium/first#post3090848
I will second this guide!
I stumbled across it one day, and was so taken by the description of the play-style, I created a mesmer just to give it a go.
However, leveling a mesmer is painful. I gave up leveling doing open world at around lvl 20, I crafted for the next 40+ levels then did the Queensdale champ train until lvl 80.
If you don’t like melee, then ranger is not for you. The most effective weapon for a ranger is sword/xx. As others have posted, bows are not great. I play more at range with my mesmer than I do with my ranger.
O.O 138g ?!
Have one sitting in my bank I always forget about …
Perhaps time to list it!
Why does everything have to be temporary?
Because they sell more gems this way …
When Flame and Frost was on, I never paid much attention to the gem shop items that were released.
When the F&F dye packs were re-released during the summer, I was all over those. The Deep Glacial Sky I wanted for my guardian dropped in the first Frost dye pack I bought.
If it looks so ridiculous, why does every single human female medium seem to wear it?
And yes, the Viper armor counts.
Excuse me, human medium wearer here.
Please indicate where you see T3 medium in these:
I use a sandy bridge i5 3.xx Ghz CPU with 2x 670 in SLI at 2560 × 1440 res.
I run GW2 at maxed graphics with SweetFX enhancements and FPS is not a problem
(edited by bri.2359)
The mined drop stats on tickets and scraps is around 1 in 40 and 1 in 4 respectively.
FYI
During the last key sale, I opened 60 BLc’s
Tickets: 0
Scraps: 17
