You might try posting this in the guardian sub-forum. Lots of helpful peeps there.
Sorry I cannot help you on this, I was waiting for the weekend to begin these. Did the towers, the 5 champions and the torch race thing first
Guardian don’t run, we walk … very slowly …. and carry a big stick … ;P
LOL!!
/15chara
hmm, anecdotal evidence – if i’m forming up a PUG dungeon run, and i am running Guardian, i see two more Guardians joining up? we KNOW it’s going to be faceroll easy. and we just go huehuehue never die.
I have been in some guild dungeon runs with 2 other guardians that have been terrible.
3 guards does not necessarily mean all will go well if one or 2 of them are either badly specc’ed, or do not understand the class, or do not understand the dungeon, or are simply bad players. Just saying …
anet team aware of this. refer to game bug section thread
oh, well that is reassuring …
by the time anet get around to fixing it, the daily for this will be long over for us in the EU region
I just started using sword again in PvE. Way back at game launch, I created my ranger and one the first weapons I had was a sword. I unlocked all the skills then immediately salvaged it. I did not like it one bit.
I never had another sword until last weekend, when I decided to give it another go. Now, I do not find it so bad, but it is far from an every occasion weapon. When running with a sword, my secondary weapons are either axe/axe or shortbow.
For single targets in open space, sword/dagger works very well. However, once the target is close to environmental objects like trees, rocks, small ledges, or worse, large cliffs, it is nigh useless. Serpent’s Strike will more often put you behind a tree or rock, thus blocking you off your target, and Hornet’s Sting can easily kill you if you are already at low health and ‘leap’ off a small cliff.
As for the auto-attack, if I am going into melee on a target, I plan to be there for long haul and stick to my target. I have #3 and dagger #4 for evades and it is more about timing these, your healing, and using #2 as a last resort than about trying to dodge during the auto-attack animations.
I just wanted to add, that thanks to this thread I have begun to ‘flip’ …
Been making 50-75s per flip over the past couple of evenings, with one or two duds. Keeping it low-key while I get the feel for the various markets.
Wow … I cannot believe some the comments in this thread …
First, my views are all PvE focused, I don’t give a toss about PvP / WvW.
Guardians have no idea what a ‘jack-of-all-trades’ class that does nothing, and I mean NOTHING, well is until you play a ranger. Period.
Bland traits?? Hell, I will take ‘bland’ traits that work and have some synchronisation with each other and weapons /utility skills over the uncoordinated mess rangers have any day.
I came to the guardian profession in Jan/Feb after maining a ranger since game launch. The only thing rangers have that guardians don’t is 25% speed buff signet, and that was introduced at the same time anet took away our one and only DPS burst skill. That is it, a bit of perm mobility if you run that signet. And please, do not mention ranger spirits, these are still a major profession embarrassment, of which rangers have many.
Sorry, rangers have one other thing guardian don’t have, their class mechanic is a liability. Rangers are penalised for having pets.
If guardians are a pinto, then rangers are a gremlin (if anyone remembers or knows that car).
And if some of you are only now realising that warriors are anet’s favorite child, where have you been for the past year??
So what if some of the other classes have been buffed here and there. I don’t the see guardians being kicked from dungeons any time soon …
(edited by bri.2359)
Runes of Perplexity now correctly apply confusion to the enemy target instead of the player.
I couldn’t help but lol at this.
Which pets did you use?
@OP
Trying to overclock a graphics card is tricky even for experienced computer users, not something you just jump into without knowing what you are doing. Furthermore, overclocking usually begins at the CPU / RAM, then moves to the GPU. This involves numerous setting adjustments in BIOS.
Lag can come from many sources, including some beyond your control such as your internet service provider.
First step is to optimise your computer, run a disk defrag, clean up the registery, close/stop unnecessary OS background services. Make sure you are running the latest drivers for both video and sound. Audio is the cause of many PC problems, so make sure you have the latest audio drivers.
Once you have done this, run a benchmark test utility. This will tell you how well your computer runs under various stress tests, and you can compare the results with similar hardware configuration to see if your computer is functioning as it should.
You can also run internet speed tests to determine if your ISP is delivering and performing at what it should be.
If the benchmark tests says you are ok, then check your in-game FPS based on your preferred options in both your video card utility settings and in-game graphic settings. Anything less than 30 fps under average playing condition is not good because under higher demand the FPS will drop much further.
If you are not maintaining over 30 FPS under average playing conditions, then you need to scale back the graphics settings or buy a better graphics card. Trying to overclock a mid-range card for an extra 5-10 FPS is simply not worth it because it will run much hotter and/or crash your computer, as you have discovered.

I had around 275 support tokens and destroyed them after the elections result email was sent. I thought they would be worthless
Nice to know now I destroyed close to 3g …
I didn’t vote …
Destroyed around 275 support tokens, I did only 4 achievements for each candidate, I never do pvp mimi-games, and didn’t bother with T3/4 of the instance after Anet ‘fixed’ it.
I don’t do fractals, so couldn’t give a toss which one won.
For me, this was the worse LS content to date, the 2 weeks went by very slowly.
Only positive was getting a weapon skin ticket that I use on the pistol skin and sold it for 58g …
I’m just ticked off that I couldn’t sell the 200+ Support Tokens I had collected. I destroyed them all this morning.
I had no interest in the story, the candidates or the content.
This^

I leveled and map explored mainly using greatsword and sword/shield, with scepter/focus when range combat was required.
As for traits, I focused on radiance, valor and honor, with the mandatory 5 in virtues. I stayed away from zeal.
I like underwater combat, but then I have a ranger for that with full lvl 80 exotic weapons and superior sigils. I also have 2 lvl 80 breathers slotted with a 7th rune so I maintain my 6th rune bonus depending on which armour set I am using.
The reason many don’t like under combat is because they do not bother, or are too cheap, to run level appropriate underwater kit.
As for utility skills, so certain ones are not available – big deal. Rangers loose all traps and anything ground-target related. This does not make rangers useless underwater. No matter what class you play, if your build is that dependent on these unavailable skills, then that is a problem with your build, not the combat.
Yup, it might take a play style adjustment to play in a completely different environment, who would have thought?? But this should not be a problem for all you so-called ‘pro’ hot-shot players, yes??

As someone posted above, trinkets should be offensive, armour and weapons can be a mix of offense and defense.
Armour
Many players have multiple armour sets, In my case. both my ranger and guardian have a mixed armour set of Knight and Valkyrie (3 pieces of each) for general open world activities. However, the ranger set had runes of the ranger and the guardian set have runes of the soldier.
Each has a 2nd armour set of full solider stats (p/v/t) with runes of melandru. My guardian uses this for certain dungeon content, my rangers used this for certain open world bosses.
Trinkets
My ranger uses a mix of Knight and Valkyrie with ruby jewels. My guardian uses a full set of ascended Beserker trinkets
Weapons
All my ranger weapons are Beserker, except for my shortbow which is Rampager. I mainly run with dual bows (LB/SB) with sigils of battle and swap them a lot to keep stacks of might up on both my toon and pet
All my guardian weapons are Knight. I mainly use GS, with sigil of strength, and Staff, with sigil of fire, in open world. When using my main and off-hand weapons sets, my main hand weapons has sigil of strength and off-hand has sigil of accuracy.
“How do you distinguish yourself in this game?”
1- Create the largest sized norn or charr the sliders will allow,
2- Find the most inappropriate armour mix and match,
3- Dye armour with the most miss-matched colour scheme that will make eyes bleed
4- Stand in front of the bank in LA
Play a guardian …
For me, I feel the ranger was supposed to be the single target damage dealer from ranged.
This was exactly what I thought at game launch when I created my ranger. However, we were never great at this this, but passable if traited for power/crit. Almost a year later, and we are worse at this now than ever.
Anet simply does not have a clue about this class. No ranger dev has posted in here in what? Over 8 months now?? It would take a very foolish one to do so now ….
Anet needs to man-up and admit they lost the plot (if there ever was one …) with this class. It needs to be completely re-built from the floor up.
No. I don’t. They let John Smith run rampant with the economy. Just as they let the PvP balance team determine game balance for PvE as well, with terrible results.
Aye … Well, I will give you that, my ranger plays worse now than it did at launch ..
As for John Smith, I would never look to an economist to save an economy. Better off asking a thief to hold your wallet.
By Anet ‘doing something’’ I meant a high power than John Smith ..
We are limited in profit we can make from all other sources in the game. Why should the TP be immune from the limitations ANet has been quite free with applying to all other money-making methods?
Say ‘hello’ to CoF p1, it has been around since game launch …
Having ideologies and principles is fine and comendable in RL, but this is a video game we are discussing here.
Furthermore, if flipping was the evil problem you are making it out to be, stealing and making other players gaming experience miserable, do you not think Anet would have done something about it by now??
Just because the latest release is so focused on those doesn’t mean that the game will be all about them forever. The devs already mentioned that there is no JP in the next release and no instanced mini-game (not sure about this)
Forever is a long time … I think you mean foreseeable future, yes??
And I can make the opposite conclusion, biased on the recent content, that JP’s and pvp mini-games will be the staple of future content.
Might not be part of every release, but one more JP and/or pvp mini-game will be one more too many for me.
I’ve never seen this level of content from any MMO before. Are there a couple of bugs? Sure. But early bugs were certainly worse than later ones, showing improvement. I haven’t really found many bugs at all in the newest content.
At any rate, I’ll applaud anything that I’m enjoying…why shouldn’t I?
I guess you were too busy applauding to notice Anet had to do 4 ‘fixes’ to the current content: 2 on 23 July (same day as content release), 1 on 24 July ,1 on 26 July.
This tells me the content was not properly tested before release,
Vayne, I doubt you wouldn’t notice a bug if it bit you on your kitten .
Their focus on LS now is providing new content on a regular basis while updating the core game- this improves the game for people who just play and it provides a constant stream of content to players who go through content fast.
All this with only cosmetic additions.
I applaud this.
This where we disagree …
Throwing out a constant stream of new temporary content for the sake of new content, is imo, poor game design and vision.
Also, the overall quality of this content is highly questionable. I don’t like JP’s and dislike pvp mini-games even more, so never do them. Much of the LS content has little or no interest to me.
Furthermore, this content is often buggy, requiring 3 or 4 ‘fixes’ immediately after that tells me it is not properly tested before release. These ‘bugs’ find ways to effect core game content as well, so are not just limited to the temporary content. I have a vision of the Anet LS factory assembly line pushing product out and onto our computers, ready or not…
If you ‘applaud’ this, then what can I say? Ii is certainly not the way I thought the game would evolve. Oh, and I never heard of the manifesto before I bought the game, so had no expectations on that account.
I stopped recommending this game to friends 6 months ago when I saw nothing being done to address all the outstanding game balance issues. The Feb patch was more of a game breaker for me that the Nov one. The LS has just make things worse for me and is not the way I want to receive my gaming experience.
I have 1 month left of home ISP before I move countries. I will be without an ISP for at least 1-2 months until I get set-up in the UK. Unless Anet has a drastic re-think regarding the game direction, and pulls a rabbit out over balance issues during the next 2-3 months, I very much doubt I will be returning to GW2.
(edited by bri.2359)
Lol!
I solo’ed T1/2 on both before the ‘fix’, then went off to do other things. Was thinking about going back to solo T3/4, but after reading this, will pass …
I don’t need that level of frustration from a game …
I think this is the worst LS content so far. The Trials instance was a joke before the ‘fix’, now it just sounds like bad content. I hate pvp mini-games and refuse to even try these. So, I will only do the remaining pve achiev’s for each side and be done with it.

Coriander is found in a much smaller quantity if you were to go out and gather it, than other herbs.
I don’t know where you harvest herbs, but for me Coriander is one of the more common drops from mature and verdant herb patches …
Try sage or rosemary, these are difficult herbs to drop …
The peeps complaining about DX11 are the ones still running DX9 and fear they will loose out on the graphics end unless they open their wallets …
If they cannot have DX11, they don’t want anyone else to have it. Period.
The fact that the OP posted a build with 2 sigils of accuracy in a scepter/focus weapon set was all I needed to know.
As some one posted above, I just hope a new player does not come across this and think this is the way to do things …
OP, welcome to the game …
My advice to you is not to spend a copper on kit until you are at least lvl 62. Use what drops and from personal story rewards.
The suggestion from the previous poster is a terrible one. Lvl 30-something rares are an utter waste of what limited gold you have, and you will very quickly out-grow them.
EDIT:
Re dungeons
The first dungeon that will become available to you is Ascalon Catacombs (AC) at lvl 35. This is far from a ‘beginners’ dungeon and can be quite difficult even for lvl 80 players.
I would recommend you get leveled up to at least lvl 62, where you get access to kit with 3 stats before jumping into dungeons. Also, by that time you will have opened up more traits and have a better feel how your class plays
(edited by bri.2359)
Between rifle #1, jump shot, that elixir gun #4 acid shot, and various underwater skills, I tried projectile finishers, blast finishers and leap finishers…
For fields, I have light field on the elixir gun’s super elixir (#4), and water fields from healing turrets.
Ah, I think I see the problem here.
You need to check the tool tips on your skills for the ones that are specifically combo finishers. These are the only ones that work for the achievement.
My suggestion, have your ele, in fire attunment, lay down a fire field. Stand behind it and fire through the field using your projectile combo finishers
Edit;
You can use melee combo finishers as well. Just make sure you are standing in a field (fire, water, etc.) while bashing away.
Another edit:
Just to add, there is usually an audio clue when you finish a combo attack. On my human ranger, I get “That was impressive” when this happens, not all the time, mind, but enough to let me know the combo is working.
(edited by bri.2359)
For the combo to ‘trigger’ it does not need to be a killing blow …
I don’t know what eng’s have for combo finishers, but I got this ages ago on my ranger. Lay a fire trap, trap triggers, shoot arrows through the field. Even with a 20% chance, you get a lot of combos.
Party with classes that lay down fields. Ele’s are good for this.
@OP
I suggest you close the chat window and just play the game, at least until this event is over …
The melee weapons are horrendous, all the swords and axe are beyond belief and the hammer looks like two 6-packs of beer tins stuck together ..
I didn’t bother looking at the rest …
Heh, I decide to check GW2 again 5 months later, and guess what, the bugged loot table that all players were saying was bugged (despite developers insisting it wasn’t) really was bugged (and could have been fixed much sooner if they had actually checked, instead of assuming the players were wrong). What a surprise. I guess this sets the bar for future “developer confirmation”.
I wonder what other things that were (supposedly, but not really) “working as intended” also got silently fixed…
If you have been away for 5 months, then you missed the ecto salvage fiasco.
Immediately after a patch, players noticed a serious drop in ecto recovery using BL and master salvage kits, Very detailed records were recorded and posted for large salvage numbers. First Anet response was along the lines of: nothing wrong here, all you tinfoil hats are wrong. This from the so-called community officer.
More records were posted daily for two weeks in an ever growing thread, until finally the Anet economist took notice and said he would look into it. Three days later he came back and confirmed something was wrong and the devs were working on a fix that was released the following day.
Anet sent a free BL kit to anyone who purchased one through the gem shop during the time of the ‘bug’. Not a word from the so-called community officer …
Bottom line was this: The ‘bug’, would never have been noticed by Anet, let alone fixed, had not so many players posted detailed records about the salvage rate shift.
So, one small victory for the tinfoil hats …
I’m not saying I love the idea, but seeing how everyone and their brother’s pet (including myself) is running around with Celestial Weapons right now, I’m not sure it’s such a bad idea….
I have 3 toons, and none are running any celestial trinkets, weapons or amour. and no plans to do so. I would make a pretty safe bet that I am not the only one not using celestial.
In fact, I stopped creating charged crystals after the 8 I made for the achievement. I continue to mine it, but only to stockpile for after the event.
Oh my … I fear this will not end well for the OP …
Finding access to the new zone is one thing, knowing where to go and how to get to the npc’s in the Sanctum without having done the initial content will not be easy.
I must agree with the OP about one thing.
The level of basic information anet provides for many of thse events has been terrible. Having a ‘show me’ button to a map area a player has not yet discovered is pretty stupid.
It should be made clear at the outset which maps should be explored prior to the event. This way a newer player can decided if it is even worth while starting the event if s/he needs to explore 3 or 4 maps while trying to finish the event content in time before it disappears.
Even with 100% world, I would be lost most times with these events without a guide from Dulfy, or some other, to provide the basic information that Anet does not.
(edited by bri.2359)
You want a tier 1 DPS build for cof? Here ya go—no longbow! You don’t need longbow here, at all. This is basically what I do in fractals 48 and it’s huge DPS. It’s permanent 25 might stacks on pet. It’s sick.
20 (spotter) / 30 (companion’s might) / 0 / 20 (vigorous spirit/strength of spirit)/ 0
Sword/warhorn and axe/axe with sigils of perception and strength.
Full berserker
Quickening zephyr / frost spirit / optional
Stalker / optional (gap filler pet)
See the thread Mighty Ranger High Level FOTM for more details.
Lol! And rangers wonder why they cannot get into dungeon parties and/or get kicked…
Chopps, you make it out like fractals is the only dungeon in this game, Thankfully it’s not, because I have no interest in fractals. Furthermore, you would never get into my dungeon party with your set-up,
@OP
I am one of the few who actually agrees with you.
For PvE these longbow changes are at best unnecessary, at worse crap. Any ranger who needs 3 sec of stealth off a ranged weapon in PvE is playing the class horribly wrong. Period.
If you want stealth, put it on a melee weapon where it might actually be useful.
The shift of vulnerability to Rapid Fire is just plain stupid.
As for Remorseless, meh …
Buggy trait I will never use and stopped running 30 in marks months ago
@OP
You might want to take a look at your sigils of Accuracy in your scepter and focus.
If you equip both these weapons at the same time, the sigil effects do not stack, You are essentially wasting one of those sigils and a sigil slot.
on a side note: anyone have a, or going for a Steampunk Guardian? looking at SDCC pics this year, a LOT of people did stempunk renditions of other characters that.. normally wouldn’t be found in steampunk gear. the hammer is pretty riduclous looking lol
I almost fell off my chair when I saw that fizzy drink tins hammer!
The melee weapons are horrendous, anet seems to hit new lows with every new weapons skins release.
So, no steampunk guardian here, doesn’t really fit my female norn …
I almost fell off my chair when I saw the fizzy drink tins hammer …
The jump in carrot price was not because of dye. The dye recipe was always in the game and carrots were cheap (around 25c) since game launch.
The price jumped to over1 silver at the beginning of May with the introduction of the Molten Weapons Facility dungeon and the Carrot Souffle recipe. The price fell back a bit, but has been steadily above 75c for 2 months now.
As a PvE’er with 100% world, the only thing that would get me back into WvW is if WvW was completely decoupled from PvE.
The would mean:
1- No PvE content in WvW, i.e. no 100% world mapping requirement, JP completion, living story content, etc. in WvW
2- No daily/monthly achievement options related to WvW. Introduce a WvW only daily and monthly system like PvP has.
3- Build templates, armour and weapons specific only to WvW.
Additional changes:
Commander titles be gated behind actual skill achievements within WvW, and introduce commander rankings. If I am going to follow some blue icon around a map, I want to know if this player has a grasp of tactics or is a door-knob.
Limits on zerg size, encouraging more small group encounters. and more map variety would help to reduce the major bore-fest WvW is now.
As for you WvW ‘vets’ who think PvE’ers are a bunch of care bears, afraid of a fight, I can only laugh. It is you lot who have to be rezzed and carried though dungeon cos your crappy WvW builds cannot deal with trash mobs and bosses. So please, leave dungeons to PvE players who know what they are doing and don’t need a blue icon telling them what to do.
No. This is definitely not how it should be. Orr is far from terrible, and one of my favorite zones.
You don’t like it, fine. Then stay out.
There are some who do like it and want to see the area lively again.
I don’t buy into the angelic guardian thing either, but the whole flaming armour and Abyss dye thing is just so over done and very boring.
Also, I don’t like spikes …

I have a human ranger, but if I was to do it again, I would go norn ranger
