Yup, starting from the star on the hero’s panel worked, ty again!

ok, thanks will give this try when I get home
Why u wait 1h to do Tequatl when it does not give you anything? Its waste of time since its not rewording at all.
Tequatl gives you 2g, plus whatever loot items drop from the chests. Then there is a shed of karma earned. This has been the best rewarding open world PvE event in the game since it was up-graded last year.
After logging in after the update, I clicked the green star thing to activate the episode. However, I did not receive the email directing me to Fort Selma.
When I open my story journal, Ican see the episode is there. When I click on it, I see the locked achievements, etc, but I cannot activate it to progress the story.
OP, guardian is your best option for almost all game content and pairing up with any other class or group.
As for damage, a dps traited/built guardian has some of the highest sustained damage output in the game.
There’s virtually no DR active on any given day.
Magic find makes a huge difference.
You don’t actually play this game, do you …
On the individual player level, DR is alive and well. It kicks in approx 20-30min after killing the same mobs in a localised area. Even your own devs admitted DR exists. It is not the perception issue you alluded to. I am sure many would be happy to document this for you.
As for MF …
Again, on the individual player level, the effects of MF are none to miniscule. MF does not even impact the major source of player loot, namely chests and champ bags.
I never used MF before EoL was introduced. Because I salvage a lot, my account MF is now 193%. The only thing I noticed going from MF 0% to 193% was the proportion of green item drops increased over blue items. That is it.
You definition of " huge difference" is significantly different than mine
OP, choosing ranger pets are as important as choosing what weapons to use. They represent around 30% of your damage output, so no, they are not just cosmetic.
Some are more useful than others, depending on your play style and game content you prefer to do. Regardless, as a new ranger your first goal should be to collect all 41 pets, scattered throughout Tyria. This will get you out exploring the world, gain XP and level.
There are different groups of pets, i.e. birds, cats, drakes, canines, spiders, etc., that share the group common stats and 3 skills, but each pet in the group has a different F2 skill. It is usually the F2 skill the determines the usefulness of a particular pet, with the group stats and 3 common skills being secondary.
Taking cats as an example, you have :
Lynx – F2 bleeds
Jaguar – F2 attack from stealth with bonus damage
Jungle Stalker – F2 shared might
Snow Leopard – F2 chill
All these have stats for high single target damage and low survivability. These are melee pets and are more suited for a melee style ranger. They also require the most micro-management effort to keep them alive though longer fights.
In terms of usefulness, the Lynx is the least because of the way condition damage is handled in the game. Snow Leopard is next, however if single target control is required, it can be quite useful. Jaguar is great when playing solo and to see high damage numbers. Jungle Stalker is great for group play needing a might buff.
Both Jaguar and Jungle Stalker are unique in that no other pets have these same F2 skills, while there are other pets that can chill and bleed.
As mentioned, karma can be a very useful currency.
All 5 of my lvl 80’s have at least one set of exotic armour purchased using karma. This is even easier to acquire now that the Orr temples are usually open and each temple sells complete sets of a particular armour stat. This was not always the case …
The best PvE event to do for karma is Tequatl.
Each successful kill will net you around 17,000 karma. Do this event 3 times per day (on different toons for the big chest reward) and that is over 50,000 karma per day just from this event alone. Using karma boosters will add more.
The Tripple-Trouble Wurm event gives some decent karma as well, but this event is more difficult to do without an organised group of experienced players.
I I never use scepter in pve because conditions are sadly not that good for 99% of pve.
Yup, I agree, but that 1% is what I mainly use my condi necro for over the past 8-9-months: dealing with the champ husks at the Tripple-Trouble Wurm event.
So, my scepter/dagger get a good workout at least once per day …:p
This depends entirely on how you want to play your necro.
If going for condition damage you want scepter/dagger
If going for direct damage you want dagger/warhorn
If you need a ranged option you want axe/focus
Staff is meh, and a poor option in PvE. Use this only for stacking sigils and tagging mobs. Skill #4 is a blast finisher, and the most useful.
Oh my ….
As a fellow Gandarian, I am truly sorry to read this .
Whenever I saw your guildies in game, the guild tag always gave me a smile …
@KalaGrey
I roundly applaud your efforts in taking on Vayne’s myopic opinions, however, you must realise it is a lost cause, and in the end not worth the effort.
The sad thing is this game has already been left to the Vaynes and the super casuals coming and going through the revolving door. Oh, and lets not forget the multiple account gold sellers, bot runners, etc, All these are the ecosystem of GW2, each thriving off each other, driving theANET/NCSoft business model.
Veteran players have no place in this system, and we are being firmly frog-marched out the door.
My first character was a human female ranger, but if I had to do it again, I would go with a norn.
As for bulky norns, when in character creation, set the body size and height sliders to the lowest settings, and use a slim body shape. This is what I did for my norn female guardian.
The smallest norn is close to the same size as the largest human. The only difference is the running animations and voice actor.
THW rewards have always been crap for the level of effort.
To make things worse the ‘wiggly’ chest (the one you see in the lower-right of your screen) with the 5 champ bags has been bugged (does not appear) for many months. ANET refuses to acknowledge the problem, claiming they ‘fixed’ it.
The problem is worse for players doing specialty roles. When I am blocking eggs on my guardian, it is extremely rare for me to get this chest because I cannot attack the other mobs while blocking eggs. I only attack the wurm head during vulnerability phases and this is considered a ‘structure’ in phase 1. Only in phase 2 does it become an actual mob for the purpose of loot drops.
When I am on my necro in the condition party killing husks, I miss out on this chest around 30-40% of the time. Seems killing husks does not ‘count’ towards receiving this chest. If I attack the vet wurm spawns as well, then the chest is more likely to appear.
So, I usually get the bag from the wurm head in phase 2 and the big daily chest, while missing out on half the listed rewards most of the time.
These leechers drag mobs right into the middle to the golems when they change the side.
Do you realise where all the mobs spawned at the ledges will go if no one attacks them??
They are scripted to come down into the little valley to destroy the golems and attack the players. If players do not deal with these mobs the event will fail.
So, no one needs to ‘pull’ them down into the valley because they are scripted to go there!!
For a DPS guardian and thief, ruby orbs are a terrible choice now, with Flame legion runes even worse.
You do not need runes of strength/hoelbrak with these classes unless playing solo with no other source of might, plus you need sigils of strengh and/or battle in your weapons to make these runes worthwhile.
If looking for DPS runes these are good choices in descending order:
Scholar
Ranger
Eagle

In the EU server region, this map is a mess and seems to be getting worse by the day since the last so-called ‘feature’ patch.
The Tripple-Headed Wurm event is now a joke due to many map instances being plagued with near constant, serious lag and wide-spread player disconnects. Other locations in the map are also suffering with disconnects.
This needs to be fixed very soon
Oh my, not this again ….
I have been doing this event at least once per day for 8+ months. It does not need a nerf, scaling or otherwise. What it needs are improved rewards. This event is one of the very few things that still keeps me playing this game.
In the EU server region, GW2comminity organises for the 14:30, 19:00 and 22:00 (CET) every day. Between all the English, German and sometimes French teams there are plenty of opportunities to get on an organised run. Some EU guilds also spawn the event for public runs as well.
The catch?? You need to be on the GW2community public Wurm teamspeak channel at least 40 mins before spawn. So, anyone in the EU region who claims this event is exclusive is just lazy. and should be doing less challenging events elsewhere.
That is completely missing the point.
No, my post is very much on point …
The problem here is you, and many others, are missing the point of the THW event.
This event is not designed for a group of unorganised randoms, it is designed as high-level content for organised groups. It is working as intended,
This event is no more ‘exclusive’ than any other high-level content in the game. Why do you think dungeons have level restrictions, or, will you start complaining about these being exclusive as well??
Oh my, not this again ….

I have pulled 2 precursors (The Legend and Leaf of Kudzu) from the MF using 3 random exotics and 1 MF stone both times.
Sigils have nothing to do with increasing or decreasing your odds
I remember opening an unidentified dye drop around 2 weeks after game launch, and it was an Abyss dye, Being a new player and not realising what this dye was, I used it, only to discover later what it was worth. And yes, I regretted it.
It is one of many dark dyes, and can look bad on some low and mid level armour material, and it gets rather boring on higher level armour. Even now, I rarely use it, preferring midnight red or midnight ice if I want a dark dye. Oh, and I had it drop only once more and sold it.
So, my suggestion is sell it and put the gold aside for when you need to buy level 80 armour/weapons. At that point, you will make 40g in no time if you really want it. Meanwhile, if you want a dark dye, there are plenty others at a fraction of the cost of Abyss.
o_O
I did not know about this ‘bug’ or ‘fix’ with shield #5.
But this certainly explains something that happen to me a few days ago.
One of my guardian roles is to block eggs at the Tripple-Headed Wurm event. If these eggs are not blocked, they will hatch very nasty vet wurm larvae that could easily disrupt and fail the entire event if not dealt with.
The skills used to block eggs are a combination of shield #5 and WoR. I have done this well over 50 times, so quite experienced at it. Normally we have 2 players doing this in case one gets DC’ed or otherwise unable to block the egg spit properly for whatever reasons,
On Monday I was doing this at one wurm with another guardian, Another wurm was having egg problems so my partner left to help out, and I was solo. Not a problem, however it does mean being on top of the egg spit cycles and placing shield #5 and WoR correctly each time.
Eggs are spit every 40 secs, husks are spit out every 90 secs. When sure eggs are coming up, you only need WoR. However, if not sure whether the next spit will be husks or eggs, you need to use shield #5 first to see what lands. If it is a husk, you keep WoR ready. If nothing lands then it means eggs (first egg blocked by shield #5) and you immediately use WoR to block the rest of the egg spread.
What happened to me was during one of these ‘is it husks or eggs coming up’, I used shield #5 at the start of the animation, looked to see what landed, and it was an egg! I then used WoR to block the rest, but had no idea why the first egg was not blocked by shield #5.
Now I know … I expected shield #5 to be ’up’’ for the usual 4 secs. However, the projectile block ended 2 secs earlier than expected, so was ‘down’ by the time the wurm spat out the first egg … Lovely …
Here is a guide for Thieves running dungeons:

For open world PvE, S/P and shotbow are all you need
OP,
First a note on rangers.
Ranger pets, if left on ‘active’ while the player is AFK will attack any mob that attacks them or the ranger. However, they have a leash limit that does not extend very far. As for damage/kills anything the pet does is considered an extension of the ranger damage, so yes the player gets the credit and rewards for anything the pet kills.
Regarding AFK’ers …
Seems you do not do many world boss events, particularly Tequatl. This event is constantly plagued with AFK’ers that scale-up champions at the turret defense areas. East turrets are particularly bad for this and politely asking players to leave or to move to the attack zerg will get you a chorus of rude comments back.
Regarding the Claw of Jormag event,
There is huge difference between players farming champs and players being AFK. At least the champ farmers are actively doing something and preventing the lootable champs from entering the golem spawn area. AFK’ers do nothing except up-scale, then tag what they need to get rewards.
AFK ‘ing is not a reportable offense, All you can do is try switching to a map where there are fewer AFK’ers.
Let ANET make feature patches …
Oh wait …
Until there is an overlay developed that plays nice with SweetFX in full-screen mode, I will always use SweetFX.
I guess none of you do the Triple Headed Wurm event ..
I do this event at least once per day on my guardian, and my task is to block the eggs the wurm head spits out every 40 secs.
To do this I use the shield #5 skill, along with Wall of Reflection …
Oh, and I use sword/shield because when the wurm is vulnerable, we need to stack on the DD spot and use cleaving weapons.
So, sword/shield does have a use …
Just to add a side note regarding projectile reflection.
In an update awhile back, ANET buffed enemy projectiles so they all have have a rare chance to be invulnerable, meaning they can pass through any type of reflection/block skill.
I have seen this while blocking eggs at the Triple headed Wurm event on my guardian when an egg passed through my Wall of Reflection while the other 2 eggs in the spread were successfully blocked.
So, I take it that mantra builds are the PvE meta now??
The simple answer, imo, is; no, they are not worth it …
As skins, the look is entirely subjective.
Personally, I find the skins meh to ugly and the effects annoying. I prefer the skins you get from MF recipes, i.e. Infinite Light, Vision of the Mist, etc.
As for BiS, most definitely not.
Apart from higher level fractals, exotic weapons are more than enough to successfully complete all the other content. As for changing stats, most players run with 1 or 2 stat variations for the particular content they run. It is still much cheaper to have multiple exotic weapons sets for your class than 1 legendary.
Economic wise, check out this website: http://www.gw2legendary.com/
Then decide for yourself if the cost justifies the end result
If I remember correctly, you first need research 2 levels architecture before you can build the bank. This will be for the 50-slot bank
I cannot remember how much influence you need to research levels 1 and 2, but to build the bank you need 5,000 just for that.
EDIT: Perhaps 5k was for the entire process, i.e. 2 levels of architecture and the bank ..

My sylvari mesmer …
No trench coats …
human ranger and sylvari thief
The commander tag issue in PvE is a fiasco. I have counted as many as 42 tags on some maps.
Apart from the visual pollution, which will only get worse once the coloured tags kick in, all these so called commanders think they can command!
Map chat is now flooded with ‘commands’ from these tags who know nothing about the events. A guildie took a screenshot of one these commanders admitting in map chat to not even knowing what time the event started that he/she was tagged up for…
This will only get worse …
So many things still broken since launch, and they spend resources on something like this …. sigh
This will not keep the vets I know playing. On the contrary, it will drive them away that much sooner!
What a waste …
Of my 5 lvl 80’s, mesmer was by far the most annoying to level. For me, there was nothing ‘fun’ about. It was my 3rd toon, so I had lots of in-game experience, but this did not help while leveling a class that simply does not have the proper skills and tools at low-mid levels.
I used whatever tombs, scrolls, exp boosters I had on hand and maxed 3 crafts to get over the leveling ‘hump’. Once at lvl 60-something, I finished off by running the Queensdale champ train. Dreadfully boring, but it got the job done.
As for doing the the personal story on a mesmer, my advice is wait until you are at least 10-15 levels above the PS story level before attempting the next segment.
OP, this event is organised multiple per day by many guilds and communities, so it is far from being redundant. In fact, the main reason why some veterans players still play this game is because of events like Tequatl and THW.
To get into an organised map, you need to be on Teamspeak with around 120 other players. To get on teamspeak, you need to join a guild or a community of guilds who organise for this event.
Oh, and no commander is going to tag up for this event with randoms who show-up 5 min before the event starts ..
Wanze, I suspect the hidden supply of unidentified dye is enormous.
Any veteran player would have received at least 1 or 2 stacks of these on 15 April.
Just 100K accounts with 1 stack each = 25M unidentified dye. Perhaps some has been consumed over the past 4+ months, but certainly not all.
I would assume there to be at least 10-15M unidentified dye in hidden supply.
I’d wager far more people had duplicate, triplicate, quadruplicate, or even higher dyes pre-account-wide dyes than have duplicate, triplicate, etc. minis.
My 37 mini Priests of Balthazar say ‘hello’ …
Meanwhile, the highest number of the same dye I had character bound was 5 …
I sold 2 mini Tequatls for just under 25g each last night at the peak, so I was happy. I still have 1 more to sell, but prices are dropping now ..
Just this month 7,496,080 Oozes have been dealt with.
John, factoids like this are the little nuggets that make the game more interesting.
Suggestion: Why not introduce optional pop-ups with inconsequential information like this during loading screens, or when we first log into the game? It would give a few players a laugh, or at least something to ponder about..
Great that this getting some attention, however this has been discussed before.
ANET has said in the past that changes to FoV, camera distance, and the like, would give un-fair advantages in WvW/PvP
I do not agree with this, only relating what was told to us in the past.
Having said that, I would like to see:
Increase max dolly (camera distance) distance
Manual camera height adjustment
Manual FoV adjustment
The rest, I do not care about.
Aye. I’m pretty certain that this change was at least partially driven by the goal to sink a large amount of gold from the game.
I doubt that the number of people shelling out of a one-time purchase of 100g (or even 300g) is going to come anywhere close the amount of gold that’s siphoned off via the TP. Of course, such sinks are important for a variety of other reasons.
I agree, and most likely the reason ANET changed plans.
The amount it would sink for each colour was not worth the uproar it would cause ..
Rusttooth
Sword
1 Eldritch Scroll
10 Mystic Coins
10 Steel Ingots
10 Seasoned Wood Planks
Either sell the sword or salvage for the Superior Sigil of Force, and sell that
The only CDI I actively participated in was the Ranger one. I still have the infraction notices to prove it ..
If you need an example on how not to run a CDI, go dig this one out. It was a cluster kitten from the very first ‘Red’ post, and was very toxic at more than one point.
Furthermore, ANET ‘blamed’ the ranger community for derailing the CDI, when their own staff assigned to managed the CDI kept contradicting herself, and clearly had no clue about he issues under discussion. Oh, and she would disappear for days and weeks on end with no one from ANET stepping in.
I lurked in a few other CDI’s, the one on the story/writing was a joke.
So, CDI’s are the last thing I want to see repeated. The fact that so little from the ones considered ’successful’’ have made it into the game speaks volumes, and was always going to be the case.
Anyway, another point: guys, characters running around with sado-maso armor and wielding an odachi just looks silly (just referring to those aweful female anorexia models you postet up there… aweful).
Right ….
And some big fat charr or norn swinging a surfboard is a thing of beauty??
LOL!!!
But it is interesting to think about how that situation would look if the roles were reversed – if a big group was trying to complete an event and some lone person had a special way to fail it. I wonder if anyone at all would defend that person then.
I have done Tequatl and THW often enough to know there are trolls who attempt to fail these events.
For Teq it is pretty hard for tolls to cause the event to fail, but some do still try.,
For THW, it is very easy for one troll to cause this event to fail. However, it takes a player who has completed the event many times before to know how to disrupt it, which is beyond the capability of most trolls …
And no one sane would defend the actions of one player that ruined an event for 120+ other players …
Revert Cursed shore back to the way it was near release and everyone will be happy, Farmers get to farm and the trolls get to complete their events. I don’t get why anet hates farming so much when its very clear that a large % of the player base enjoys it.
I miss the Penit/Shelter runs, met a lot of lovely people running that every evening.
This^….
So much this …
Here it is on my ranger …
For speed, runes of the centaur. Also makes the phrase "I am fast as centaur’ more appropriate … Put these in a rubbish set of blues or greens when running though maps.
For actually combat, runes of the scholar are pretty much it, followed by ranger. However, you need constant clones/illusions up, or a mini pet out, for the ranger 6th bonus 7% damage buff.
Runes of the eagle are like rangers but with a 6% damage buff on mobs below 50% health. No clones/illusion or mini pets required, though ..
I never tried strength or hoelbrak on my mesmer, but used these on some other toons with greater or lesser results.
