As a PvE only power/crit might stacking ranger, running mainly sword/xx, I have no interest in any of these new traits. I happened to unlock one them for a trait line I have zero points in when I did the Karka Queen the other day. I certainly have no intention of wasting gold to buy crap I will never use.
As for the new ranger traits being the greatest things ever, check out Revealed Training in the Thief Deadly Arts line. It will make you cry …
When ever I use bows, and that is rarely these days, I constantly swap between LB and SB while skills are on cool down.
Since I like stacking might, I have had sigils of battle in both bows for a long time, and just recently added sigils of air to both bows.
is there a more affordable balanced d/d build for PVE? I don’t want to spend more than ~10g on a complete rune set.
Try wurm or scholar, yeah scholar for dps, wurm for survivability
Both of these runes can be crafted (leather working for wurm, tailor for scholar), so if you have the mats on hand, no need to spend any gold.
I use sword/pistol and shortbow for solo PvE with a 5/6/0/0/3 build. Full zerker with runes of the scholar. Sigil of air in sword, sigil of accuracy in pistol. Shortbow sigils of force and fire.
Playstyle is basically stealth to target, open with pistol #5, then sword #3 (pistol whip) until done. Rinse, repeat. This all you need for any melee encounter.
OP,
Try sigils of strength or battle.
Might is your dps friend
I havent done all world bosses after the patch yet but at Moodnir Ulgoth, Mega Destroyer, Karka Queen, Wurm and Foulbear Graal, i got more gold, item value and champ bags from the pre events than the world boss kill.
Yesterday, I did Maw, Shatterer, one of the events in Harathi, Karka, Teq and 3-headed Wurm
Sorry Wanze, but all loot at these events was the usual crap. In fact, it seemed worse than before the patch.
You will need to prove to me, with comparison numbers, that there has been any increase in gold/items.

I
I’ve pretty much consigned myself to not seeing wurm being killed again any time soon. Hopefully a dev will report ok kills in the first month of the new patch and see that 3 kills = why even bother creating the content to start with
Well, we did manage to kill it last evening, even with the randoms around ..;p
We can continue killing it until Bloodtide becomes a mega map,
Once that hits, then yeah, no more Wurm ..
Just read some of the other threads dealing with guild missions and trying todo normal DE’s with friends/guildies in mega maps.
2 days in and this is turning into the disaster many predicted.
17 mega maps and counting …
The mess in the EU region will only get worse,
At least acknowledge our concerns. We want the game to continue to succeed but with the framework you just implemented on bosses and mega servers it WILL end communities like ours
Sorry mate, you know as well as I do, Anet will ignore these issues until we go away.
Furthermore, I can see this as part of Anet’s plan to reduce the population on some over-crowded servers – introduce a system that will drive ~10k players from the game.
Oh, there are now 17 mega maps.
Good luck trying to run any guild missions in these maps.
For the record, my guild has nearly completed researching the new guild perk and should have the first 3 built and ready to trigger early next week.
The price is steep, but not unreasonable.
That is your opinion, and not a fact …
For a multi-server guild like TxS, it is currently impossible for us to build this consumable. That is a fact, and there is nothing positive about it.
It is very much not impossible for you, however, to talk to your members and reach out to other guilds willing to help. Yes, you are a multiserver guild, but you are also made up of members who are part of many established guilds – most of whom would probably jump at the opportunity to become more involved. I guarantee there are plenty out there willing.
Use the opportunity to make a stronger and larger environment in the game for killing Tequatl – it just takes a little open mindedness and willingness to adapt to change.
Blaeys
Stop telling me, and TxS, what we should do.
Not only is it very presumptuous on your part, you have no idea of the issues a multi-server alliance of 4 guilds is facing right now.
I suggest you start by re-reading the entire thread, carefully this time.
In Ebonhawk (Field of Ruins) there are 3 karma merchants who sell a unique weapon set.
Although I think Wanze’s average prices estimates on the common/uncommon/rare dyes seem undervalued, they are not that far off to suggest 1g for unidentified’s any time in the near or long range future.
If had to speculate, I would see 50s, perhaps 60s for unidentified dye as a possible equilibrium price, and will take quite some time to reach, as in months from now.
I only use cats with a power might stacking build.
I noticed the F1 attack will immediately interrupt whatever they were doing to go after the target. 2 years to ‘fix’ this …
The F2 skill far from instantaneous. The snow leopard still stops for a 1-2 secs before starting it’s icy pounce animation. There is still the bloody client-server-client check thing going on, and the cat can still miss the intended target if the target moves while this is going on.
Sorry, but the pet AI is still a mess, and nothing has changed here, certainly not enough for me to warrant a single trait point in BM
OP,
I have been running a full zerker might stacking ranger in PvE for almost a year.
20/25/0/25/0 with Sword/(dagger or warhorn) and axe/axe
Runes: Hoelbrak (for power and might duration; cheaper than runes of strength)
All MH weapons have sigils of strength, all OH weapons with sigils of accuracy.
I use 2 cats (jungle stalker for more might and snow leopard)
I trait heavily into NM for boon sharing with pet and extra damage for both me and pet while boons are up. I can easily put up 25 stacks of might solo, and can sustain might though any encounter.
If I need to go ranged for some reason, i swap to LB/SB both the sigils of battle (might on swap) and constantly swap them when skills are on CD.
Seems the new might ‘meta’ has caught up to my build …
I already had all the expensive rare dyes I wanted unlocked (abyss, celestial, midnight ice, etc..).
In my unidentified dye experience I get on average 1 rare dye from 20 unidentifieds. So, that means a possible 25 rares from the 511. Since launch I have had 2 abyss and 1 celestial dye drop. The odds of one of these dropping out of the possible 25 is not worth all the mouse clicks .. ;p
The players realize after the patch, that the nerf of the crit. damage is much more than expected.
Perhaps pure power builds with might stacking could be the next meta. Who knows.
But the raise is impressive.
I have been running both my ranger and guardian as power / might stacking builds for almost a year now. However, runes are Hoelbrak essentially the same as runes of strength (same power, same might duration), but a fraction of the cost even a year ago. Now runes of strength are at crazy levels.
I had 511 unidentified dyes sent to me yesterday, and I am sure many others received many more than this.
There is a massive over supply right now, that will take a long time to dissipate.
To anyone who just wanted to focus on the ‘positives’ and saying “wait and see how the guild consumable it will work”, I have four words for you:
We Told You So!
At least megaserver has not hit Bloodtide or Spark Fly yet, but the chances of finding an empty server/map at the only spawn times this evening will be a challenge.
Karka shells ….
No one in the EU will be doing the KQ because of the crap spawn times. This was the only reason to go to SC, so supply is going to get hit.
April Fool’s was 15 days ago …
So, patch will be upon us, perhaps in another 12 hours or so, and still nothing from Anet.
Just want to say the events TxS did last evening were great fun and hopefully we can get in a couple more today before the madness hits.
6-7k is just the members of TxS and TSS alliances on EU/NA. There are other smaller guilds forming alliances on EU, I presume NA as well, that have been running organised megaboss raids since September. So I would guess it’s over 10,000 players.
Ah, yes, the numbers I posted were from what I knew for certain. You are right, certainly there are many server specific alliances doing these events. I just do not have those numbers, so preferred to be cautious.
Cheers for the clarification!
Blaeys,
Some of us in TxS already do this for our home servers, and the megaserver will hurt this as well. Unless I join the guild triggering the instance, how will I get into the same same map instance??
Also, some guilds/players just do not want any help, even when it is offered. Instead they troll the event.
I’m telling you that I’m on TC and during the Marionette I couldn’t get on my home server for days on end and it made me feel like crap.
Well Vayne, I can tell ou will have TC all to your self because so many will leave the game after megaserver hits.
Feeling better now??
What concerns me most about this is the lack of response from Anet since these changes were announced.
The RP community expressed immediate concerns and Anet responded, in some fashion, claiming the megaserver will not hit city maps, at least not for now. The RP community is assumed to be around 10k players across EU/NA servers., and Anet seems to value there presence. Perhaps they buy a lot of gems, who knows??
The mega-boss slayer guilds represent around 6-7k players across EU/NA servers. So far all our concerns have been ignored by Anet. Perhaps we do not buy enough gems to warrant consideration, or, we are not the sort of players Anet wants to keep in-game.
I know there are ‘casuals’ who resent the existence of these types of guilds. The reasons can be due to the design of these events that requires a high level of organisation and commitment, or, see these guilds as a bunch of elitists, or, just individual envy seeing some players succeed and thus get something they think they cannot have. Some of these players even take to stalking and tolling TxS while we do these events.
What these ‘casuals’ , and Anet, both fail to realise is if these described changes go ahead, and the mega-boss slayer guilds break-up, these events, and any others Anet plans to introduce, will simply not get done by anyone, any longer.
120+ unorganised randoms at these events does not mean success. These event are not like Maw where more equals easier/quicker loot. In fact, it means the exact opposite, guaranteed failure, particularly with the Wurm and any other events Anet introduces with similar design.
Agent, great post!
A few weeks back I mentioned to my TxS guildies on teamspeak, at that time, about my experiences doing Tequatl/Wurm with other guilds on certain servers. Not to take anything away from the effort by those players, but this made me appreciate the level of organisation and skill set that everyone in TxS brings to the table for each event we do every day. This represents a huge amount of time, effort, experience, and good times that will be lost if TxS cannot continue functioning as we do now.
As others have said, sword with either dagger or warhorn off-hand are you best damage options. Axe/axe is fine as a secondary weapon set once you are higher level and can trait for increased axe damage.
Something very important for you to do ASAP is find and collect your pets! For a ranger, having the right pet options is almost as important has having weapon options.
Quite a few pets can be found in the cites, so no combat is required while looking for them. More can be found in the various starter (lvl 1-15) maps. Some pets are in high level maps, so you will need to level up before looking for those. One pet is in WvW, so you will need to go in there at some point.
Two out of three classes that use leather – ranger and engineer – are unpopular PvE classes. They always have been.
What??
I will give you this for engineers, but rangers?? Nope ..
Rangers are the most common class I see everywhere in open world PvE. Yes, they are very unpopular for dungeons, and the more difficult bosses, but this has not stopped players from rolling them. They are one of the best solo exploration classes in the game. My ranger is the only toon I have done 100% world on, something I would never do on many other toons.
The thing with rangers, is that any kit beyond exotic is an utter waste of time and gold. The reason being the ranger pet. So, rangers do not contribute to the demand for leather beyond exotic.
Beside who even crafts exotic any more?? It is cheaper to kit an lvl 80 medium armour class buying on the TP, or using badges. I did this for my new lvl 80 thief – full set of zerker armour and 5 zerker weapons all with badges, and I still have over 500 badges left. I bought trinkets off the TP.
Oh, and I got this a few days ago, which lessens the sting of megaservers.
What? 84 copper or the porous bone?? ;P
I don’t agree with the megaserver …
As part of an EU multi, cross-server guild currently doing Wurm, Teq, Karka on a daily basis, the megaserver and new boss times will destroy this type of game play and thus the guild.
Too bad if you have a job in the EU and want to daily do the mega-boss events.
Here are the new spawn times (all CEST):
18:00 Karka Queen
19:00 Tequatl
20:00 Evolved Jungle Wurm
Then nothing until the next day …
18:00 many still at work or on their way home
19:00 same as above or recently arrived home
20:00 having dinner
Given the time required for organanising events like the Wurm, these events will be out-of-reach for many during the week,
And before anyone says a guild can start these events anytime they want, let me remind you that a guild needs to first accumulate the influence and then build the event, and this takes time. At best a guild might be able to generate 2 of these instances per week.
These events, particularly Wurm, requires a very high level of organisation that the average and / or casual player are simple incapable of or not willing to do.
Bahahaha, ‘organization’, that’s a good one! You have any comedy routines I could see? :P
From this I take you don’t ever have participated in a serious wurm try?
~MRA
You know what they say about those who *ass*ume?
Yes, I did, which is how I came to that conclusion. Dropped in with a bunch of ‘randoms’, we complied perfectly with the event mechanics, had groups clearing mobs quickly and efficiently, had a group constantly DPSing. Hardly anybody going down. Event ended before we even got him below 50%, it’s a mindless DPS check, you could see that yourself were you not blinded by your self-fabricated ‘leetness’.
~Idon’tcareaboutyourcrapshoottag
Wow …
I have read a lot of idiotic troll posts on this forum over past 1.5 years, but this one takes the cake for me.You didn’t even complete the event, yet here you are being Mr Know-it-all on the Wurm…
FYI,
I have participated in over 40 successful Wurm kills. How many have you done??
Oh right, none ..I wonder who’s understanding of this event is better and who’s methods actually work?
You are a prime example of why I think this megaserver change will be a disaster for the players/guilds/servers that can successfully complete Tequatl and the Three-Headed Wurm.
Oh yes, your sitting in a spot predetermined for you among a giant group of players all spamming the same skills you’ve been told to spam, carrying the builds, buffs, and items you have been ordered to carry is oh so very impressive, and bestows upon you a wealth of knowledge I couldn’t possibly comprehend.
Get over yourself, Wurm and Tequatl kills are not impressive. Comply with the simple and easily explained mechanics, max enough players DPS and evasion, and you win. If there’s more to it than that, please explain what it is, because none of that requires anything dozens of other bosses do not. The only hitch is in welching every last point out of DPS out of 100+ players, which takes nothing but pathetically obsessive calculation on part of a small group and blind compliance on part of the remainder.
I guess we found an afk-er Shatter spammer here .
I think we found our next guild stalker! ;P
If you are on an EU server, you can apply to TxS on their Reddit home page.
We do Teq 2-3 times per day and Wurm once daily. However, applications are currently closed but might be open again in a couple of weeks.
Keep in mind that with the new megaserver changes, the current multi, cross-server guild model for doing these events will have to change. It is quite likely to become impossible to organise properly to do these events, particularly on a daily basis.
This is also true for any server currently doing these events. So ,yeah, if you need/want to get these achievements, better do so very soon, because I can see these events never succeeding again.
I think we can all say ‘good bye’ to the node map sites once the megaserver hits the T6 maps.
Even if you know where the possible spawn sites are, do you really want to waste time exploring for each node? Frostgorge is a big map with many possible spawn sites and few wp’s. You will spend a lot more time swimming and running around trying to find these.
For those using multiple toons, there is no guarantee you will be placed on the same map each time you log in on a different toon.
I’ve been over this whole thread and noticed a common trend amongst the angry posts… and that is a mischaracterization or misunderstanding of what was said.
I have no doubt at all that this will be a purely positive experience for many players, and at worst a neutral change for others.
Sorry, but I disagree.
I fully understand what Anet has said so far, and this change will drastically change the way I play this game to the extent I will leave the game.
Right now I only do dailies/monthlies and the 2 world mega-bosses – Teq and Wurm. That is it. There is nothing else that interests me anymore.
I do these 2 events on a semi-daily basis, with TxS, This change means we will no longer be able to organise for and do these events in our accustomed way. Despite the loot being utter crap, particularly with Wurm, many in the guild still enjoy doing this, as much for the social camaraderie as for the challenge.
If Anet changes these 2 events, i.e. dumbs them down to accommodate the megaserver changes. they will become as meaningless as – Shatterer or Maw and there will be no reason for TxS to exist.

OP, it doesn’t take a megaserver to notice the problem you trying to address.
Last week I took advantage of the free transfer to certain servers. Many other did as well to the same server.
I have been leveling an alt, so went to do the QD champ train for some xp and level appropriate loot drops for awhile.
Seems the server I transferred to does the boar>troll>oak>spider rotation, skipping the bandit. With the influx of many players from different servers, the bandit became a big issue, with some players wanting to include it in the rotation, and the original server players resisting.
For over a week now the QD train has been in a semi-perma state of chaos, with the map chat becoming quite ‘lively’ at times …
I see this as a minor bump-in-the-road compared to what things will be like after the megaserver hits …
Hmm…Just noticed both upcoming blog posts are to be released today!
They probably want to get the kitten-storm over with soon than later …
These events, particularly Wurm, requires a very high level of organisation that the average and / or casual player are simple incapable of or not willing to do.

Look at the current volume available for each torment skin, then figure on there being at least 10x that volume in ‘hidden’ reserve. As Flissy said, it will take many months for that supply to be depleted.
The question is, do you really want to wait that long for a decent ROI??
Poor Vol … He must be in a state of shock!
Unfortunately, I recently had 3 rare desirable dyes drop – Abyss, Midnight Ice and White.
I already have all 3 of these unlocked, but selling these now at the current depressed prices seems such a waste.
I am really in a quandary over what to do with these dyes, as they seems to loose more value every day.
Only problem is that TTS is actually 12 (maybe 13 now?) different guilds. Sure we all have the same tag, but we belong to different tts guilds. How are they going to work?
I am in the EU version, TxS.
We have 4 sub-guilds and very concerned about these changes …
The only solace I can find in this announcement is that it will start with the city and lvl 1-15 maps and not touch the other maps for awhile yet. So Bloodtide and Sparky Fly are safe for now.
Hopefully this will prove to be technical headache to implement and will be abandoned …
This will be disaster for doing any ‘difficult’ open world content ..
What about multi-guild alliances??
I do Teq and Wurm with cross-server players from 4 different guilds. How will the ‘metrics’ guarantee that I am on the same map with all these players to do these events??
This does not look good …
TEQ and the WURM might finally be accessable to the average and / or casual player now.
Wrong!
These events, particularly Wurm, requires a very high level of organisation that the average and / or casual player are simple incapable of or not willing to do.
I am in a guild that specialises in doing these events on a daily basis. We go to great lengths to keep away from the casuals because 10 players not on teamspeak and not knowing what to do when will fail the event for the other 120 players.
Believe me, the megaserver change will cause these events to fail for everyone …
Hi,
We were thinking of slipping the process evolution phase between topics this time as the new format worked out quite well.
Right …..
And the Ranger CDI ‘worked out quite well’ for you didn’t it ??
No participation on Anet’s part let you get more important work done …
I prefer the current default (sort by set). Why?
Because the common/uncommon/rare designation actually means something, and would like to see a 4th designation for the special event dyes.
The quality of the dye determines how much colour and detail you will see in your expensive armour.
Starter/common dye lacks detail and are flat and dullish no matter the armour type or dye channel, These are designed for low level armour for a reason.
Anyone who has spent over 100g on T3 cultural, or bought gem shop armour, then dyes the pieces with starter/common dye will notice something is off. Dye those same pieces with rare or special event dye and you will see a huge difference in detail, not only on the armour, but subtle shifts in colour within the same dye channel.
Of course if you run the game on low graphics settings, then you miss all this …
