Sword autoattack was never tracking stealthed targets. You just jumped away from stealthed targets, like you did if you hit it untargeted. Which made it for example impossible to prevent/slow down a stealth rez with sword – you just could’t cleave stealthed targets even if you knew their location.

Those should compensate the rest of us for making us wait so long for a price review. Had more people refused to pay those silly prices, it’d have been much faster.

It’s a hybrid weapon, no big damage like a power-based one, no big conditions either like a condi-based one. So that requires to spread stats in a build to make it work fully, and this generally makes hybrid weapons unpopular.

After that, i used to equip SB often as a power weapon for wvw back when it had 1200 range. 1200 range piercing was a very decent ranged weapon for running around zerg engagements. The flanking happened naturally, trait/runes to increase flanking damage (Thief runes i think?) made the AA decent, and the utility from 2-5 was a great complement.

What killed it for me was the reduced range which forces you to get closer to the red circles of death. The damage from skills 2-5 has never ever been what the SB was about for me, and this is the only thing they ever buffed since stripping down the range. I still use it at times for skirmishing mind (great aggravation tool to lure people into traps), and my old build would probably be useless these days with the 34289234e43 sources of reflect projectiles, but i still find myself longing for that old 1200 range.

As a bad/casual/non-ranger, the new chain is a massive improvement, if a bit uninspired. Against any powerful foe, the old one had me either dishing out poor damage due to having the AA off and hesitating between each strike to decide whether to press 1 or dodge, or dying mid-animation with the AA on.

Yes, it’s buggy. I’ve been using it a lot in wvw since it got revamped, and very often there’s a downed player in range, my pet is near me, alive, yet nothing happens. But then another player gets downed and he’s teleported instantly to the pet. Go figure…

That said, for wvw purposes, i dropped it yesterday. The lower cooldown made it handy as a Resounding Timbre spam source when on the move, but more importantly, 1200 range was key to catching downed people in the ocean of red circles and deliver them safely near you during a zerg retreat.

In PvE i guess it doesn’t change much, people don’t go down too often and if they do, they’re generally close to each other. So i guess the nerf is based on sPvP. One day maybe we’ll get skills split across modes…

Well, that’s Search and Rescue out of the wvw bar i guess.

Reminder that a thread full of ‘Rangers’ demanded that this skill become a trap when they were doing the reworks and just ignored the posters pointing out all the problems that it ended up causing.

In those days, our traps had no activation time, could be traited for shorter cooldown and becoming throwable to 900 range, and there were precious few reasons to even think they could be nerfed. What were all the problems that were pointed out?

The HS problem is paying the price of a trap nerf caused by another class spec.

A hunter archetype, with a rifle and skills that buff the pet. Maybe a classic mmo tracking skill, a skill sending the pet onto the nearest stealthed creature and revealing it, or an extended leash range for proper pet-based hunting. And re-release the monocle in the gem store.

A wilderness skirmisher, with throwing spears and camouflage skills to turn into a random tree/bush or grey named critter. You can add in some trap synergy or bring back preparations.

Well I wouldn’t ever expect a menagerie in gw2 unless they add more classes with pets or lolmounts. Gw1 anyone could second ranger and also there were heros. Perhaps just a trainer NPC, but again they would actually have to think pets need improvement. + stats isnt really an improvement.

The home instance(s) would be a neat place for that i guess, no additional area design required, just a stupid NPC.

As for pets needing improvement, well, the whole beast mastery aspect is ridiculously undercooked right now and in bad need of a redesign at some point. The HoT pets work so much better it’s not funny. That said, i’m not sure i want to see it happen, i’m very wary of what they may come up with. ^^

Hmm, i’ll try some more, but i had the impression i had the pet within 1200 range at all times, the staff 1 skill being a handy laser range-finder device, and i keep the pets on passive so they’re always near, with even some pet-swapping involved as a double check.

I’ve been playing a lot with the new Search and Rescue in wvw and am absolutely loving it. One of the best rez skills in game right now imho.

Now i haven’t managed to find a pattern, but for some reason, it doesn’t seem to work sometimes. I can see a downed ally in range, pop the shout, yet nothing happens. The skill has activated though as sometimes, during the 8s window, another ally goes down and the skill correctly catches the new downed.

I haven’t found yet why the first person in range sometimes doesn’t get picked up. I tried pet swapping before SaR to ensure that the pet was alive, healthy and not under any CC in case that was the issue, but the failed rezzes still happen. Anyone has an idea? Is it a silly failed LoS check maybe?

Do you score a point for each enemy that dies, or do you score a point for each credited to your side? In other words, if 5 people tag an enemy, when that enemy dies, is he worth one point or 5 points?

Is it it strange though that Guild Wars 1 had the exact same holiday decorations and the exact same holiday quests every year, and people just did them and didn’t complain.

Wintersday kept getting updates and was expanded into the expansions. (kamadan got questlines and a decoration, not only tombs, LA, droknar and ascalon. EoTN got new quests and also decorations.)
So: 2005 first wintersday, 2006 nightfall, 2007 UW quests?, 2008 expanded it to eotn, 2009 nothing new?. 2010 snowball fight of gods, 2011 nothing new, 2012 changed hat quest.
EoTN, the last expansion, was released 2007.

Halloween is afaik similar. And that are only two events. There are two other big events which are comparable to wintersday and halloween (canthan new year and dragon festival) plus several smaller events like aprils fool, thanksgiving, eastern, st. patricks, wintersday in july, wayfarer, pirate week.
So even when some events stayed the same, there was overall a bigger variety of events. GW2 has just released a new expansion. Anet hasn’t stopped developing GW2 and is already working on GW3. So its a bit sad they don’t seem to care about the events anymore.

If we want to play whatever we want on bells there’s plenty of options outside of the bell choir activity now. Getting ported into instances of the minigame that are in free play mode is frustrating and wastes time going through 3-4 loading screens to try for another instance. The game is OVER at the point free play starts and people just leave, which ports other people wanting to join a map into this dying map with no purpose.

What if I told you I play this game for more then 3 years, i have crafted 2 legendarys and sinked thousand something hours in it, I have allmost 3 wintersdays behind me and still can’t play bell choir to save my life which results quitting the minigame over and over again. But feel free to pass judgment over f2p people by all means.

Then he’d probably tell you that he’s not talking about f2p players, but talking about the “free play” deadtime that happens after all the songs have been played in the Bell Choir game, before it resets to a new round, and which you obviously never noticed if you haven’t completed a game over the years.

But congrats on your legendaries. ^^

Agreed, this is one of the many things that prevents Bell Choir from developing a proper competitive #esports scene. I was already lamenting the sad state of the activity last year and sadly, nothing has changed. No Pre-Made Bell Choir Bands, no leaderboards, no ranked play, no reward tracks, no new Bell, not to mention a stale meta focused on the same notes year on year…

Don’t mind the events being the same personally. I enjoy these ones a lot, so am happy to see them back each year just as they were, rather than see them never come back like SAB, Queen’s Gauntlet, etc.

There actually was a single use checkpoint there as an option to players. Tixx gave you a present at that platform to take with you and deliver at the end to earn more rewards, but if you fall then you lose the present but restart one time at the present wall for another shot. I believe that was how it had worked.

Yeah, that’s how it worked, and actually they had it removed last year already. Pity, getting a second chance was pretty useful for new players still learning the puzzle.

Yeah, dreamer was great but then ANet destroyed it as part of their ranger hate campain. And just to get the people who still didn’t care that the bow was useless they decided to make the sound effect ear-splittingly painful so that everyone else in the game can hate you too.

Ignorance on my part but your last sentence made me giggle a bit.

What was the nerf? Effect/sound related?

anet nerfed SB into the ground a while back, thats why you rarely see a ranger running it anymore. it used to be far more popular than the LB. they reduced the range, damage and auto attack speed i think.

AA speed nerf, sorry, “animation fix” was done very early in the game. It predates the “we’d like you to use LB more” 1200->900 range nerf. Skills 2-5 damage have been increased as far as i can remember, but it’s sort of irrelevant since they’re mainly there for utility, the damage came from constant AA with stacked modifiers (full endurance, flanking, etc). After that, SB was left untouched while LB received buff after buff, leading to the reverse situation from those early days, with LB omnipresent and SB being the niche weapon.

I’d probably play with the SB again in wvw if LOYF increased the range back to 1200.

The dungeon staff was poached by the Black Lion Trading Company, who apparently needed a dedicated vendor for each skin type that you’ll never purchase.

I love the Dreamer but decided not to bother with it after they murdered the SB range. Go for it if you use the weapon.

For generic legendary stuff:
- get your world completion done first: you need the Gift of Exploration anyway, and it’ll allow you to gather mats on every single map, and the map rewards will add up to that. Keep what you need (the wood planks mainly) and sell the rest, it’ll come in handy.
- there’s no way around it: you’ll need gold, lots of gold, so try and earn some every day in whatever way you prefer. Just spending a bit of time gathering wood/ore and selling it will get you a few golds a day with the current prices. For the Dreamer, you don’t need ore apart from 250 orichalcum ingots, so go wild on mining/selling iron and platinum. That’ll come in handy later when you need the 100 icy runestones (100g) and when you want to top up your T6 mats to 250 of each for the Gift of Magic and Gift of Might.
- craft the 77 Mystic Clovers before topping up the T6 mats, as when the recipe “fails” you get a stack of T6 mats. You’ll rage when it’s leather or gossamer, but weep for joy when it’s powerful blood.
- as you build up stacks that you’ll need later for a Gift (like stacks of wood planks), store them in a personal bank guild or on a bank alt. That’ll avoid using/selling the stuff by mistake.

I can’t help with the precursor quest, as i only did it for cheap precursor (the underwater ones), whereas when i crafted The Moot i simply bought the prec on TP for ~240g at the time. Just know that crafting it will probably cost you more than buying it outright, so if you enjoy taking the time, doing the collections, and gathering mats (plenty of spiritwood planks required i presume), go for it. It may tie up well with world exploration too as the collections will take you all around the world. Otherwise, just focus on making daily gold and you’ll get there too, possibly faster.

And of course, if you’re a wvwer, make sure you show some taste and craft the final legendary recipe at the top of Stonemist.

I always make sure i rename them both to Juvenile Brown Bear before joining a PUG dungeon/fractal group, just to freak out minmaxers for a split second.
