Yes, like the first GW.
So, if I buy 50+ Consortium chests I will get the same item I got from the one time event? Hmm…
I think it is hilarious that trial accounts may have gotten precursors, I mean you either giggle or cry.
Do you believe it?
First rule on the internet: “Pics or it didnt happen”.
The rewards were supposed to scale according to player level, so unless proven contrary no trial player got a level 80 precursor.
2 exotics + 2 rares + 20-slot bag + that karma item with lots of stats (dont remember what it was) from the final chest.
And a few stuff (mostly garbage, except one rare 80) through the event.
Would be a good event if not for the lag. Lag was unacceptable.
What do you GW1 guys want from the game then? How are to keep a MMO fresh without introducing new content and gear?
Where did anyone say you cant introduce content / gear? A game can add content and gear without making it a gear treadmill. All you have to do is not make the new gear better than the ones already in the game. They should be completely aesthetic, like they were in GW1.
so the real question is: do we want numerical progression at all? Why introduce it now? After reading his reply, the original question is left unanswered.
^This.
I’m yet to see a proper answer to: why do we need ascended gear to have better stats than exotics / legendaries have nowadays?
Even after Chris came in here and said Ascended was the last tier that will be added
Dont remember seeing anything like that. If you could provide the source…
The only thing he said is that they “will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on”. Which does not exclude the possibility of new gear tiers in the future.
I guess the fear of many people who are complaining here on the forums about this new gear tier is that when you add a higher stats gear to supposedly give players a “sense of proggression” it leads people to believe that this will be norm on future content updates. How will ANet give already fully geared players a sense of progression on, lets say, the next expansion pack? Taking from this example, they will up the level cap and add a new gear tier, since they consider it reasonable.
Thats what basically happens in every MMO out there. The company gives a gear for players to grind for, when they reach that point they release a +1 gear, than a +2 gear,… and that indefinetily. And thats not what many players were expecting from this game, including the majority of GW1 players.
GW2 has already gear progression. Its just not stat-based, but its still progression. You get yourself the first (and easily acquirable) set of exotic gear from crafting, or TP, or completing an area, or storyline missions, etc. Then you can go on, if you wish, and try to get yourself a dungeon set, or a cultural set. Or get the materials for Mystic Forge weapons, and eventually a Lengendary. And you can keep adding new steps to this gear progression without ever having to raise gear stats, following the premise of keeping the grinding on GW2 completely optional. That way you will still have stuff for players to strive for if (and only if) thats what they want to do.
I’ve watched this “manifesto” video:
WHERE in it do they say that item progression is bad and should be/will be avoided? In fact, most of that Manifesto is about Dynamic Events and the game’s world and art style. Very little of it is (if any @ all) is about dungeons or progression on that weight.
People who are saying “you’re going back on your Manifesto” are lying…. they are either fooling themselves or are trying to deceive the community into turning against Arena.Net.
In fact, the ONLY thing I can think about that might be incorrect in that Manifesto is the part about Grind; but that’s only in relation to Legendary weapons. Then again, it’s not really grind if you rotate it casually with normal play, WvW, guild and friend events. It just scuttles into the background of fun.
It may not be on the Manifesto (I dont wanna check the video right now), but it is on the article by Colin Johanson about “How ArenaNet Measures Success”, as some people already posted here:
“Fun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”

Anyone heard of an MMO that you can put down, play some single player games for a few months and come back to still be at top stats?
GW1. =)
Havent played since August 25, but as far as I know, there was no new stat tier since I started playing.
NO to new tiers of gear with higher stats and required gear grind.
Hopefully they increase the level cap and add 2-3 new item tiers (above Ascended/whatever is the current highest tier) for each patch. That model is very well tested and is what they outlined in their design manifesto and advertisements prior to the game’s release.
^^ This.
And they should also add mounts, cash shop legendaries (which should be at least 50% more powerful than exotics), change the skills so that you cannot cast while moving, and start charging a monthly fee.
Oh, and I would love to see kung fu pandas on GW2 as well.
Well, you asked what was GW2 “endgame” content. Lande pointed a few options you could do after reaching 80 / finishing main story / getting full exotic gear (and there are more, like crafting, JP, titles / achievements, activities). Just because you dont like the content, doesnt mean its not there.
PvP isn’t end game content. Most PvE’ers don’t want to PvP. Other than that, I don’t think “playing the tp,” “farming,” “achievements” and “activities (?)” are content that people would bother doing. They definitely wouldn’t keep me entertained for over an hour.
As for exploring after 100% world completion, I assume you’re trolling?
Again: “Just because you dont like the content, doesnt mean its not there.”
Achievements and farming dont keep you entertained? Really? Coming from a person with a “Double GWAMM. GW1 Veteran. Been There. Done That.” sign thats pretty shocking.
GW1 had me entertained for over 8000 hours. I stopped actively playing GW2 after 100% world completion (I was bored while doing it, but whatever, I wanted to give the game a chance) Don’t compare GW2 to GW1. They’re not even the slightest bit similar.
GW2’s “achievements” and “farming” don’t come close to how fun and rewarding GW1 was.
Unless you can give me some fun examples of achievements or farming in GW2? I would love to hear it.
You still dont get what Im trying to say. All I said is that theres a lot of content in the game, as an answer to the fallacy being spread out that “theres nothing to do after reaching 80 and get geared up”.
Whether this content is good or bad, fun or boring, its not the point of what I said. And its a complete different topic that Im not willing to discuss, since its totally subjective and Im not here to convince anyone that what I like is the right thing. How can I possibly know what is interesting to you?
So, you can say that you dont like the content in the game, for whatever reasons you may have. But saying that theres no content is a lie, plain and simple.

People are way too used to gear treadmills. So ingrained because they never played anything other than that one type of game.
There is an endgame in GW2, and it’s fantastic.
Care to explain what it is? I have 100% world completion and can’t name anything else to do.
WvW, sPvP, alts, working on your legendary, playing the Trading Post, farming, dungeons, exploring further (even at 100% there is still a lot to find in the world, as I was surprised to find out).
The fantastic thing about GW2 is you have so many things you can do every time you log in. The only thing this game is missing would be the gear treadmill, which to many people is a great thing.
WvW…check, did that, got the T-shirt
sPvP/tPvP…check, did that too
working on my legendary….was excited, then I learned what a big LET DOWN it was, then I didn’t bother pumping 100’s of gold worth of things into a lottery machine. I can go to Vegas and actually get something worthwhile.
playing the TP…check, did that, made my money…got bored of this, because let’s face it, what am I spending my gold on?? Legendary? Nope…exotics??? nope…uhm……
farming dungeons….did my fair share of them, and quite personally, I don’t like the dengeon skins…
100% world completion….I actually have the stomach to choke down doing yet ‘another’ heart, or another event, or another vista, or skill point…rolls eyesNope, can’t do it. I’m done.

Since you just lost the Halloween, wait for November 16 to check the new content.
You know… maybe they could like…. make actual dungeon mechanics? Just a thought between corpserushing insert dungeon boss here
Corpse rushing? You’re doing it wrong, dude.
10/10
Perfect.
Beat it 10 times in a row just for the fun. Met some amazing people while trying to beat it (we failed for 2 hours), but once we did, it just felt awesome, and so easy.
/E:
Making it solo would take away 90 % of the fun.
I did it with some strangers from different servers in the overflow, and it was one of the best times i had in GW 2 so far (playing since first BWE).
And yes, we really needed 2 hours to beat it for the first time (and except me and one asura we all where charrs and norns btw).
This.
The funniest event of this Halloween till now.
Took me like an hour to beat it, but after you get the hang on it, it becomes easy. I even tried on my Asura, thinking it would be much harder because he would be too small to see in the middle those big Charr and Norn models, but did it on my third attempt.
And I cant agree more with the fact that what makes this funny is the presence of other people. Sure they sometimes get in your way, but its not a big deal. 80% of them just fail to make the 5 first jumps, or are far behind to have a chance to complete the JP. Its the players interaction and failures along the way that makes this cool.
Paying 500 gems for the green pets = “Okay. Thanks ANet, loved the ghost minipet!”
Paying 500 gems + 250 candy (which is less than 30 silver on the TP) for the gold pet = “OMG! What a dirty shady way of treating your customers! Im leaving the game and reactivating my WoW/Tera/SWToR account right now!”
I see..
