I played Gw1 for 6yrs and yea build changing is awesome load any build anytime. I love to see that in Gw2 but thats not we have atm. But its still acceptable compared to other mmos that you need to buy and spend real money to reset.

I guess the problem is not the fee itself. Paying 3-4 silver to respec is almost nothing. But having to respec everything by hand everytime youre gonna do something that requires a different build (lets say you have a build for general PvE, a build for dungeons, a build for WvW, etc) is a pain. A template system like we had on GW1 would be great.

Vertical progression.

If you advertise your game as being based on an horizontal progression in which players wouldnt have to enter endless grinds for BiS gear, and only 3 months after release you add a new time-gated heavily grind-based gear tier, which completely ruins the initial gear acquisition system that perfectly fitted the “play the way you want” concept you so talked about, you cant seriously expect people to be happy about it.

No, sports aren’t supposed to be fair, they are competitive. That is two different things, sports rewards hard work, and natural inclination way more than wvw does.

Sports sets certqin rules, then asks the player if he’s willing to compete. That’s all.

Don’t let the IOC know that. You’ll get sued.

Fairness is one of the paradigms of sports. Just look at the uproar doping caused in the Tour de France. German TV channels stopped live transmissions alltogether. Even technology gets banned for giving unfair advantages.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology_doping

nothing fair about being born naturally with what others have to dope to obtain. Also people here are against the idea that people who play longer get better stats, the same is true in sports, those who have time to train increase strength, speed, etc.

I dont agree with doping, but to be honest its just a rule that we agree upon before the game. like i said, rules are set, and then you are allowed to do whatever within that rule set, based on your natural talents and training, but its not like sports makes sure everyone has the same statisitics, team make up, etc.

Seriously, what are you talking about?

I believe that the way Ascended Gear is released goes against what made GW2 so fun in the past. It didn’t force you into doing stuff you didn’t want to do.

An Ascended weapon means I’ll be doing 10+% more damage than with my Exotic Weapon. That’s pretty huge in any kind of PvP.

So why aren’t there multiple pathways to getting these items? I mean from the start. From release. When Legendary/Ascended Weapons were released, there should have been a WvW method of getting them, or some sort of equivalent.

I don’t mean to say that it should be easy to get these items, but I find PvE boring—This is a game killer for me, and I know it is for some others, too.

Fix it, please.

Precursor weapons drop in wvw. I’m pretty sure you can get most of the other materials to make a legendary weapon in wvw too, except for the dungeon tokens.

Therefor Legendarys can be obtained in wvw. Same goes for all the materials required to make ascended weapons.

And complete ascended weapons have a chance to drop anywhere that ascended materials drop as well.

Are you really relying on RNG to acquire your ascended weapons on GW2? I mean, really? And what would you do with a Healing Power / Precision / Vitality weapon on a Condition Damage build?

Regarding the alt-unfriendliness of GW2, I would just like to add that the WvW xp only made things worst. It stimulates people to focus on 1 character to get all the bonuses from the WvW levelling system, instead of trying different classes.

caiomacos.1694

As you can tell, I like the system as it is now…which is also why I still don’t get why Ascended gear had to be implemented.

Ascended Gear was implemented (if I am correct on this) for those of us without a spare 520 USD to drop on the Gem to Gold Conversion system so that we would have enough to buy a Legendary Weapon. They are essentially the Poor Man’s Legendary Weapons. They allow people to have the ability to compete on an even footing with those people who own Legendary Weapons in events such as World Vs. World, or High Level Fractals and Dungeons, without actually having to spend the massive amounts of money needed in order to buy a Legendary Weapon.

Unlike popular opinion, when compared to a person wielding a Legendary Weapon (especially in a WvW scenario) a simple Exotic Weapon is just not going to cut it.

What are you talking about? Before ascended crap, exotics had the same stats as legendary weapons,. so people already had the ability to compete on an even field against Legendary owners. The addition of ascended gear only raised the grind necessary to be competitive.

There are many more design barriers involved in introducing such a feat to the game other than the individuality of classes. I’ve read a few other similar topics (too dated to bring up) that bash the idea because it would make light/medium armor classes look stupid, which is absolutely obscene. We’ve all seen a Mesmer with an over-sized greatsword but we never question its compatibility with the nature of the game.

I dont know why they dont allow people to transmute armor pieces of different classes. I see tons of people complaining about the lack of diversity of armor skins, and that would just triple the number of armor pieces every character has access to. The skins are already modeled for every race…

Exotics were supposed to be incredibly difficult to get? Really?

I think, as WP said, that ANet wasn’t expecting the amount of sheer determination of the players had when the game started. I heard one player actually got to level 80 in 3 days with the help of his guild and friends, which would have allowed him to make Exotics almost immediately. One of many miscalculations on their part, on their part, but still one that would have been impossible to see before hand.

I mean, the video kind of contradicts itself. At first it says GW2 (unlike most MMOs) is based on a cosmetic progression, instead of a stat-based progression. Then it says that the BiS gear was supposed to be incredibly hard to get. You cant have both ways. Either you have an horizontal / cosmetic progression, or you have a vertical one. To me, its pretty clear that exotics were never supposed to be extremely difficult to get. They were supposed to be just like golds on GW1. A BiS gear somewhat easy to get, and from there on there would be only cosmetic upgrades.

Discussion: Leveling alts - boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: caiomacos.1694

caiomacos.1694

- What are the typical alt leveling methods and which one is more viable?
I basically level up by clearing 100% areas (hearts, PoI, vistas, wps) and doing the events I find on the journey. I usually dont do the personal story missions, because I prefer to do them all at one time. Its probably not the fastest way, but thats basically what I do.

- Are alts a good part of this game and do they make the game more fun for you?
Sure. In fact, thats one of the things I like most, having the opportunity to try different playstyles. Of course, we always have our favorite characters, but its always good to be able to change your gameplay from time to time.

- How do you go about leveling and gearing?
Already explained leveling. Regarding gearing, I just crafted most of the armor and weapons and, in some cases, got the gear via dungeon tokens.

- Would you say leveling alts is fun or boring?
I find it fun because, like I said, I breaks the boredom of using the same skills over and over again. So i Have no problem leveling alts to 80; and after reaching max level its good to have this new set of possibilites to try out.

- Did you use crafting to level alts? If yes, how many? Would you do it again?
I believe I only got some levels via crafting on 2 characters. But not many levels.

- Do you think leveling alts should be easier?
Im ok with it.

If I have a somewhat older computer and require more time to load a specific map (sometimes the difference can go up to 20 seconds and more) I should not be punished because folks with better computers managed to reach and complete the event in the meantime (champ trains anyone?).

If anything, your system suggestion would only make things worse for people with bad computers / internet speed. If you already take longer to fast travel compared to people with better pcs, if you had to travel multiple times (multiple loading times) through different gates, by the time you reach your destination the event would have ended ages ago. Being able to travel to a place very near the event as fast as possible is actually a solution to that.

So, the existence of waypoints causes you to skip the intervening terrain. Is it that you don’t want to use them but do anyway because they’re there? You can’t just choose not to use them? Is it because you want to cross the intervening space but don’t want to travel at walking speed (hence mounts)? I’m trying to understand the thought process, because I totally have no problem ignoring waypoints to travel around on foot — when that’s what i want to do, and using waypoints when I want speed (e.g., for things like Guild Trek, because the time limits given don’t allow for taking the long route).

Pretty much this.

All the things listed by the OP could be avoided just by choosing not to do them. Like to experience the world, enjoy the scenery, feel the world? Just dont use the waypoints. Want to craft only in a crafting station and to be able to buy / sell only at BLTC at a major city? Well, do that.

I just dont see how the game forces you to do those things. You can actually make those choices yourself to make the game more fun to you.

“Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team.

I have seen this forum post and am actively collecting information to pass off to the Network Engineering Team. That being said, I’ll need to request a couple of additional reports from you as the Network Diagnostic test unfortunately does not want to show me the traceroutes. In order for us to better assist you with this issue, please run our Game Advisor application. The Game Advisor will provide us with helpful information about your system and Internet connection.

If you are using a router, hub, or switch, please disconnect this device and connect directly to your modem before running this utility. You may have to reboot your modem and/or computer to reestablish your Internet connection. If this isn’t possible due to your network setup, please run Game Advisor with the router connected as the information will still be useful.

To run Game Advisor, please perform the following steps:

1. To download the Game Advisor, go here: http://us.ncsoft.com/gameadvisor

2. When prompted, save the file to your Windows “desktop” so that you can access it easily. Please save the file before running it – running from the website can cause file issues.

3. Double-click on the Game Advisor file and then click on the icon of the game you’re experiencing an issue with.

4. Click on the “Test Computer and Connection” button and please wait a few minutes while the process completes.

5. Once the process completes, a “Test Result” window will come up. This window will provide you with a link to update your ticket as well as tell you where the diagnostic report is saved. You can also view the report file.

Please update your ticket with this file. If you need assistance attaching a report to the ticket please follow the instructions in the following Knowledge Base article:

Title: Attaching a File

Once we receive it, we’ll have a better idea of how to resolve your issue."

Its pretty clear they are aware of the problem and are looking at it. So, my advice is to open a ticket with the Diag Log and Game Advisor file attached. The more people opening tickets about this problem, more data they will be able to gather from us to figure out the source of the problem (whether it is from their side or from our ISP) and how to fix it.

10k points = title Y
20k points = title Z

I logged on over the weekend to do the content, and had difficulty with getting events done because I only saw one or two other players. Group events were impossible. Map chat was dead and unresponsive.

And I’m on a supposedly high population server (SoR).

This doesn’t prove anything, but it sure suggests something…

I will also not that in the launch of the eight year MMO, by this point after their launch they had released their second 40-man PvE experience as well as the revamps to two of their classes’ trait systems in a single major update. Whether that’s your cup of tea is not the point, the substantial development effort shown is. This is following the release of two dungeons, their first swing at a LFG system (with no successful model to follow in an MMO), first swing at PvP maps and rewards… That is all released post-launch.

You gotta be joking that you really think WoW added content 9 months post-launch is more then we got on GW2 so far…

While I do aggre that some events need better scaling, just stating that is useless. From personal experience, most events (not listed as group events, of course), are soloable. In fact, the biggest issue for me is that events does not scale well when a good number of players join in, and become too trivial (most world bosses, for example). So, it would probably be of great use to ANet if you could provide your feedback on what events you think need rebalance.

Each sample has its own achievement, but it rewards 0 points. And this one sample isnt absolutely needed for the Southsun Volunteer Fieldwork (since you only need 10 of the 11 samples) nor is it required for Stalwart (since you only need to complete 25 out of 35+ achievements).

As stated by the devs before the game was even released, engineers do not have weapon swap because of kit skills. How would that even make any sense anyway? Mesmers have four class mechanic skills as well, each one superior to any toolbelt skill. Why don’t they have weapon swap removed? And most toolbelt skills are a quarter of a utility at best, any one of them would be a laughable option for a utility slot.

The difference is Engineer’s kits count as other weapon abilities. Similar to Elementalist and attunement, they unlock whole new weapon abilities.

If anything, both Elementalists & Engineers get 4 (or 5 including med kit) weapons, so if anything all other professions should be able to cycle through 4 sets.

Why do these professions get 20 weapon skills to play around with but others only get 10?

If anything, eles and engies got the short end of the stick here (mostly engies). Their class mechanics just ended up being slightly more skills or skill swapping, but to get that they lost the ability to weapon swap.
Other professions got true class mechanics where they didnt have to sacrifice jack for theirs. Whats the differnce between a guardian and an engie? an engie got one more skill slot at the cost of weapon swapping.

Edit: Im only talking about class mechanics here, you know those skills that you always take no matter what build you have, not about kits, who already have damage tax to pay for instant swapping.

Like I said, every class has its drawback. As a Mesmer I can only have access to 2 weapon skills sets, while Eles have access to 4, and Engies up to 6. If you prefer a less diverse skill set but with access to weapon swap, you should be picking another class instead of Eles and Engies. It seems to me that you want to play as an Engineer while you prefer another class mechanic.

caiomacos.1694

Ok, what about ANet add the weapon swap and remove the weapon kits for Engies? Would that be good?

Every class has its advantages and drawbacks. Engineers have the ability to use kits that substitute their weapon skills (making it the class that has the potential of bringing the greatest number of skills to the battlefield: 5 weapon skills + 5×5 skills if you use kits on every utility / healing / elite slot + the f1-f4 skills) but don´t have access to the weapon swap (like the Elementalist). Saying you would prefer to have access to the weapon swap because you don´t wanna use kits on utility slots is the same thing as an Ele saying he would prefer to have the weapon swap instead of the attunement swap because he doesnt use the different attunements and would prefer to swap between d/d and staff. Well, Eles dont have that option either.

So you gotta pick your class based on the pros and cons of each one of them. If you can´t live without weapon swap, well, Eles and Engies are not for you. On the other side, if you wanna be able to use the greatest number of skills at any given time, those are the top 2 classes.

The irony is theres almost no real support in the game. Other then water staff ele and to some extent staff/wells necro, most classes ability to support others is quite limited.

I disagree. There´s plenty of support to all professions. From Mesmer portals / invisibility, to Guardian´s shouts and aegis / reflections, there are various ways of providing support to a party. Unfortunately, general PvE content content is just too easy, so most people can just faceroll full zerk dps everything.

They are also working on permanent content, not only temporary. For example, last patch we had the WvW updates and guild missions; in this new one we are gonna get custom arenas and spectator mode (which are a need for sPvP). So its not like the game isnt evolving.

You should really check whats wrong with the Maw world event. It became usual to get disconnect at the event. It doesnt happen at Tequatl, it doesnt happen at Shatterer, it doesnt happen at Fire Ele… but every Maw event you pray you dont get DC and lose it.
