My plan is to get 100% map completion, all the achievements, finish getting my gear (I’m 80 but still trying to get my pretty-shiny-aesthetically pleasing gear from a variety of dungeons.. gonna mix stuff up :-P) and then move on to another character… who I won’t worry about map completion or achievements on, I’ll just play him to 80 and finish the story and get more pretty gear ;-) I think that when I’m done with all 5 character slots I’ll just WvWvW until an expansion with some sPvP thrown in for a change of pace every so often.
My previous post was a little, teensy bit too abstract for most of you so allow me to explicate my feelings on the op’s post.
It’s dung. Endgame is not some whimsical abstraction that you make on your own. Endgame is not a make your own adventure novel nor is it a bologna sandwich.
Maybe no one defined it for you before so I will. Endgame is progression of your character at or near max level. It’s not subjective. It’s concrete. Anything not adhering to the parameters outlined is not endgame. Leveling is not endgame. Playing dress up is not endgame. Sitting on the bus is not endgame. And gw2 has a lack of endgame.
Specifically, “Endgame is progression of your character at or near max level.”, if this is the case.. you can call achievements endgame.. it is progression of your character.. and can be done at or near max level.. and in fact because of daily achievements, it can grow indefinitely.. Similarly, if you don’t complete jumping puzzles or dungeons until you are max level, by that definition, you can consider that endgame. You can reach the max level without 100% map completion as well.. so that can also be considered endgame.. so much endgame! :-P
And now I regret spamming all my tonics that I’ve gotten over the past 2 months… Should have saved them for halloween to see what they all did >.<
Wait, wtf? you threw mini’s in the forge?! You MONSTER!
This is not a question? (That’s a question)
I feel for those who feel they’ve been cheated and I can understand where others would just blow off their misfortune as foolish optimism… But there is one thing you can do instead of complain, suggest that the BLCs be removed from the game. If no one wants to use them, the keys don’t sell and the community asks that they be removed, perhaps they will be and all purchases through the gem store will be guaranteed things… like the costumes, a lot of the threads talking about the costumes have a completely opposite vibe than this thread, saying how “worth it” it was.. It would be nice to see that be the overall feeling of all purchases in the Gem Store.
Although I don’t KNOW I’d suggest looking in Dredgehaunt Cliffs and Fireheart Rise… The patch notes say that stuff is going on there, whether or not it’s halloween related, I have no idea…
“The Durmand Priory is currently investigating an ancient dwarven door recently unearthed in Dredgehaunt Cliffs. Meanwhile, strange reports of a caravan of shark tanks crossing the fields of Fireheart Rise are presumed to be a hoax.”
sorry for being a pain, but youtube is blocked in my country (china -.-) so my only question is, does it have that black flame thing aura?
Yes, it does have a black fire/smoke like aura that engulfs its edges, it’s pretty cool.
I’m pretty sure they meant that it will only be sold for a limited time but the purchases themselves are permanent.. just like all other purchases made through the Gem Store.. The only thing that is of a temporary duration, to my knowledge, is the weapons that you can purchase in game (not the ones from the BLCs or the craftable ones).
Radeon HD 6850.. however, during the beta’s they tested each persons computer for hardware right? I’m pretty sure they know what percentage of users have DX11 graphics cards…
Alright, granted this isn’t a be-all-end-all guide.. but someone thought very similarly to you, OP, and made a blog to explain jumping puzzles and map completion (hard to find POI’s) just in text… So, if you’re interested, I’ve found this useful from time to time.
wow.. just wow.. lol i can’t contribute but I have to say, very clever guys :-D
I would be disappointed if GW2 switched to a gear grind game. Those few of you PvErs that bought a PvP game and want a gear grind/raid grind/whatever you miss from WoW, find a PvE game.
It’s not just a PvP game :-P the PvE is awesome too.
Honestly, I don’t want to see raised level caps & new tiers. I think back to my experience playing GW & WoW and realize that I had way more fun with new GW expansions than I ever did in WoW. No new level caps, just the meager 20. But what each expansion brought us was another continent of content (stories, quests, vendors), weapon & armor skins, new skills for every profession, new professions, and new “dungeons.” What Anet did with GW was a winning combination of design & art & fun. I want to be able to come back to my characters with renewed excitement to play them every day, new builds, new armors, new DEs, and involved & exciting dungeons like UW & FOW were to me. That’s what i want to see from expansions…not higher gear tiers that force us to grind for more gold/mats/gear. But fun content that makes me want to find a group and play.
Ok, you make some good points.. I would much rather see new skills than more levels, I can agree to that… but they don’t necessarily need to be mutually exclusive. And the grind.. yea, there would be one if they introduced it, but I don’t think it would be anywhere near what other games have for a grind.
I sincerely hope not. With everyone being equal in power, they can start designing content to challenge the player’s skill and preparedness, rather than based around what tier of inflated gear they’re wearing.
Imagine, an MMO in which the player is actually expected to TRY to build for and defeat content, instead of mash the same macro button every month while wearing a new armor set.
No macro’s in the game, so no macro button :-P and don’t they already do this to an extent? Some fights require heavy condition removal, some fights have lots of projectiles (CoE story Mega Blasters + Warrior w/ Missile Deflection = awesome) or require poison to be up on the mob at all times etc… There’s plenty of ways to satisfy many fights.. anyways, my point being that I feel like they do this already and I don’t think throwing in gear that’s 5 levels higher and requires little to no effort to get (just craft it yourself or buy it off the TP) will change that mentality of content design.
I’m not saying that “I need higher lvl stuffs! omg, need bigger better loots now!”, but if they have it, I wouldn’t care too much.. if they don’t have it, great too, no need to focus on anything but the content.
I do have a feeling though that increased level gear etc. would appeal to the wider audience and that should taken into consideration (more players = a good thing).
they had stated that there would indeed be a level cap increase down the road, but they did not said when it would happen
Not quite correct.
They declined to say that there would never be a level cap raise but they had no plans to do so at the moment. Basically, they chose to keep all options open and not box themselves in with absolute statements.
What this guy said.. although GW1 didn’t have increased level caps with expansions, GW2 might.. I wouldn’t be too upset about it either (other than legendaries… I would think those should be scaled up or something considering the amount of effort required to get them) because the armor from dungeons isn’t TOO hard to get.. i still don’t have the set i want yet, but I think I will before an expansion comes out. Anyways, here’s some things that the googles found for me.. whether or not these still apply or are “legitimate” I have no idea.
Someone said at 58:35 of the following podcast they mention that there may be increased levels.
http://www.gameovercast.co.uk/index.php?id=news&db3=68
And on this thread over at guildwars2guru, I think someone transcribed the aforementioned podcast.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/19473-interview-gw2-qa-cd-projekt-conference/
Like I said, I can’t vouch for any of that, but perhaps someone from ANet will comment on this.
Edit:
O yea, forgot.. most people would probably just craft exotics of the next level tier and just transmute the looks to what they have currently.. really adding more levels wouldn’t do much other than appeal to some peoples’ sense of progression.

As it is now i dont really see a point in guilds at all :|
I can assure you there is a point to being in a guild.. I will talk about that first.
1) Guilds help organize groups of players for one.. that’s useful! Building up a community of friends you can play with is an important aspect of the game.
2) Guild perks! You do things while in your guild and the guild gets a currency, Influence, that can be spent on buffs such as extra magic find or increased karma gain or increase influence gain or increased xp gain or crafting bonuses etc.. all on a guild wide scale! That’s awesome.
3) Showcase your awsomeness! WvWvW… just sayin ;-)
Anyways, in GW1 there were guild battles and I’m sure they will add them in again… although you could get a similar feel to this by doing tournaments with your guild members.
Cities could work for that without the need for intances.
There could be city events to do things like playing hide-and-seek with NPC kids and other players, playing music, dance, and things like those.
This too! although I think it should be it’s own suggestion in a different thread. These seem along the lines of the mini-games.
Good suggestion. ANet did something similar with Tihark Orchard in Nightfall, although there was some combat involved. That mime was a pain!
I’ve always wanted a maze-like instance that used puzzles and riddles (kinda like Dr. Brain or Myst) to grant progress. The problem with it is that once all of the riddles are documented on a wiki somewhere, the instance becomes a joke and easily farmable. Not sure how to fix that, unless ANet creates a database of riddles that’s so vast no one takes the time to document it. That’d be a gigantic project by itself.
This seems awesome! A maze! There are random maze generation algorithms that they could use.. perhaps an enchanted maze instance, every time you go in, it’s different.. the riddles could perhaps be randomized from a large set, but wouldn’t need to be too big.. also the usage of randomized slider puzzles that depict in game artwork or something, those could be randomly generated as well, so they couldn’t be documented.. lots to do with this idea.. I REALLY hope they use it..
Also more interactive jumping puzzles, instanced to be more interactive would be fine.. like indiana jones treasure hunting dungeons.
The rewards at the end of these could be less than dungeons but greater than regular jumping puzzles..
I’ve posted on quite a few threads and a few of them have been deleted because the first post has been deleted. I’d like to know what threads these were and perhaps what I wrote in them. That’d be a nice improvement to the
“A moderator moved a message you posted to the forum ‘Trashcan’ with the reason:

message that I receive from these situations.
25 here, played GW1 upon release while I was in highschool, fun times… also loving every minute of GW2 ;-) glad to see all the positive responses!
Well.. It’s not permanent BUT you can add things to this map AND fill it out a bit to help the community.. stumbled upon one day.http://gw2cartographers.com/
Run it another 3 times it will get boring fast
Run it enough to get an exotic set and… nope, still enjoying it ;-) My guild mates want some cool armor too and it’s always best to run it with your friends… makes for a much more satisfying run. It might be cool if they add a leader board though to track times for people who want to incentives to run them after their guild mates and themselves have already gotten everything they want… Like the challenge missions from GW1, that was cool.
But we’re all here… To be honest, I think GW2 is doing fine as a community. It’ll grow more after people have devoured all the other content out there that they pay monthly for and no longer want to pay because they’ve already eaten all the content :-P But honestly, I think GW2 is doing fine and will grow on it’s own merits.. just give it time.
Edit:
Also.. I haven’t really felt like the game needs more people to begin with.. I never have trouble finding anyone to play with and I always see people out and about.
Most events in GW1 were done in outposts where all could access them regardless of level.. and then there were Halloween drops in all areas, so that too was accessible to all levels. There were some quests that you should probably have been max level for, but max level in that game was attainable within a day… I’m not sure what to expect, but I’m excited all the same ^.^
Definitely an awesome aspect of the game… I’m looking forward to see what the Halloween patch introduces.
Yea, I definitely appreciate how each class satisfies each role in their own way… I came into this game wanting one of every class and I still do :-P
I am also very much excited for this ^.^
@Gohlar
I’m sorry, I must have been confused, you seemed disgruntled, I assumed you were having difficulties with the dungeons… And no, running dungeons the “right way” is not getting killed a lot.. once you know how to do a dungeon, you SHOULD be able to do it, with perfect execution, without dying at all.
You say it has shallower classes, I’m not going to go in to class structure. You also say that I’m pretending that “addition by subtraction is good”. I am not saying that.. I am telling you that there is no subtraction… I am saying that all people perform all roles.. and THAT is awesome.
Alright Mr. Facepalm let me tell you a little story.
We tried this pure DPS approach and we had our behinds handed to us on a plate. Then we tried the good old HT approach but not having specific classes to each role it turns out it was even worse.
So we had to think (you should try it, it doesn’t hurt) and we came with this plan: Two of us would use our control skills to kite the mobs, two others would use ranged skills to hit one of them and try to separate him from the flock and another player would run around and rez the NPC till he finished his work.
That’s thinking outside the box.
That’s working within your new, smaller box. It’s like playing with only a fraction of the options in most games.
You adapted to the rather extreme limitations of GW2, good job. Anet really did design themselves into a corner with this and it shows in the content.
It’s not a limitation if they’re giving you MORE things to do.. 5 people each have 3 jobs instead of just 1… what don’t you understand about this?
You can pretend everyone is performing all roles if you like but obviously this isn’t the case. Benny Hill style isn’t skillful, it’s the last resort of a dumb combat system.
Obviously this isn’t the case? With my guild runs, this is the case… You should join a guild that runs dungeons the right way man… it sounds like you’ve been seriously mislead and have been missing out :-/ I’m sorry.
“I hear you, pugs are crap… I prefer to run with my guild mates but I’ve suffered through a few pugs as well.. all I can say is, try to get everyone that can to bring their mass res skills and explain to everyone before you run in how combos work and how certain conditions being kept up can help the group survivability… weakness, crippled, chilled, immobilize and poison are some beautiful conditions.”
Dont forget boons. Before I walked into dungeons I thought protection was silly, since “damage, I never take that!”
then come dungeons, oh boy is protection great, as is condition removal. Where as in overland pve, those two things are silly to have really.
Yea, world PvE and dungeons are waayyy different.. I hate banners as a warrior in open world PvE, who has the time to stay within such a small radius? but in dungeons, those things are awesome, regen for all plus some nice buffs.

When classes are much simpler as they are in GW2, you have less options. With less options come less variables, not more.
There is a reason the combat is constantly being blasted as too simple.
He said 2/3 were removed.. he was talking about removal of dedicated tanks and healers… you realize that the boss is still targeting someone at times right? and that everyone can heal right? those 2 things are still happening, but everyone is responsible for them.. and it’s classified as control/support/dps here… and all people must do all roles for the fights to work out well.. that means every person in a 5 person group has 3 jobs to do instead of just 1.. it’s more complex.
removing 2/3 of the equation? Does everyone realize when they say they “removed the trinity of tank/dps/heal” they MEANT they have a different trinity? It’s called control/dps/support :-P it’s just done differently.. there are still roles and you can do them all and are sometimes expected to do all roles in one encounter.. making the encounters much more complex.. the people running dungeons that are just running back from the WPs and going all dps are just doing it wrong ;-)
even with my party running a good mix of support/damage/utility/control we still gotta wipe and get back up a couple times. feels bad man.
And pugs aint know how 2 dungeon for poo, tis the worst
I hear you, pugs are crap… I prefer to run with my guild mates but I’ve suffered through a few pugs as well.. all I can say is, try to get everyone that can to bring their mass res skills and explain to everyone before you run in how combos work and how certain conditions being kept up can help the group survivability… weakness, crippled, chilled, immobilize and poison are some beautiful conditions.
Yea, the loot from them being anything special wouldn’t make sense because you can repeat them so frequently and they’re so quickly done… maybe there’s an alternative though, make it so only one jump puzzle a day gives something decent?
Alright Mr. Facepalm let me tell you a little story.

Thank you! Thank you for the love of all that is right in this world! Someone gets it! You know.. I read the forums every day.. every day and I reply quite a bit but to posts that comment on dungeons I generally just move on and don’t say anything.. but I’ve read too much today to take another word of “the holy trinity is a must for structured play” that I had to say SOMETHING.. I think I need to take a break from reading the forums :-(

I’m looking forward to seeing more of these, they make exploration a little more fun.. although it might be nice to see more traps in them too, make them a little more complex.. like a combination of jumping puzzle, traps and mob killing.. hmm.. looks like i want more jumping puzzles.
For me, progression at 80 is slow.. very slow. Map completion (I’m at 57%), jumping puzzles (I’ve only done around 5), dungeons (I’ve only done the first 6 in story and run CoF Exp a few times) and I’ve done a bit of sPvP and WvWvW… I swear it’s going to take forever to get this one character done and then I still have 3 other alts that I want to make lol and I always see people asking about end game and complaining about content.. makes me feel like I just play much too casually. O well, at least I know I won’t be one of the ones complaining about being bored.. but with over 300 hours logged I can’t help but wonder what the people who complain have logged…
I can understand both sides but in the end I’m glad there are 80 levels. It’s more familiar for people who are used to games with level progression and if that helps increase the population, so be it! It just feels right to me ^.^
There are a lot of negative and positive posts here… it’s too bad not everyone can be happy with their purchase. I’m on the satisfied side of things. The game has lived up to my expectations and I’m still enjoying it and I believe I’ll be enjoying it for many years to come.
To be honest, I don’t care if there are other forums out there or other tools that would allow me to create a unique identity for my character… I’d much rather have ANet create something for it.. an “armory” of sorts (I’m sorry for the WoW reference, I don’t really know of anything else to compare it to) that would show off what I’m wearing and display my character bio.. that I could write in and out of game and have it show up in both places.. and other people could have a right-click “About” option for each player that would show them your biography.. I really liked that feature in Star Wars Galaxies, I put a lot of time and effort into my character bio ^.^
I think this could be broken into two pvp matches..
One that had a certain amount of rounds of one team defending and one team attacking and switching off between rounds.. where victory was decided either by the attackers killing off the guild lord or the defenders lasting through whatever timer was running.
The other would be having 2 castles and the first guild that has their guild lord killed loses.. that might be interesting.. forcing each group to have both an offensive and defensive group.. or they could try all one or the other.. the timer on this one would be longer and if the allotted time ran out the victor would be declared as whoever had the most enemy kills… this adds some interesting game play as you could amass a sizable amount of enemy kills only to lose the game at the last second as the enemy rushed you and took out your guild lord.
The asura were once a withdrawn race… you never saw them in Tyria until Primordus pushed them to the surface from the underground depths.. perhaps the same will happen for the Largos. Anyways, lots of threads with ideas about the “next playable race”.. so far I believe the most likely are the Tengu, the Kodan and the Largos.
I saw another thread about “What happened to Mini-Games” and then saw another thread about opening up an API etc. and I thought, o yea, there was something else that was going to be in the game! Extended experience! What happened to that?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Extended_Experience
Just sort of want to know if this is something that is still being planned for or if it’s not on the table anymore… I know there’s a lot of stuff going on with the game right now, but I thought that it was going to be a seperate development team that worked on this aspect of the game?
Well, that’s the beauty of games releasing API’s… they choose what is available to the public and what is not. They could make only your character information available and chat functionality… It might be kind of cool to see what applications some people could make to help expand the GW2 experience.. although I’m pretty certain they said originally that they would have a team dedicated for such things. If I remember correctly, they wanted to have an “extended experience” team that developed phone/tablet apps like a map that would allow them to see world events going on and then notify other players of it or something like that.. does anyone else remember this?
No, they said there would be actual mini-games.. there’s the shooting range in Divinity’s Reach that is still off limits and there were supposed to be others as well.. They mentioned that you’d be able to get “equipment skins” and that “Participation rewards will be on par with the rest of the game”.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Activity
Lots of stuff in this game are still a work in progress in my eyes, so much room to grow! I’m really looking forward to seeing this game grow as the years progress. First things first though, Halloween!
Although I won’t knock the idea, to me it’s on the same level as tonics… just visual fluff (which i love in a way.. i love armor and weapon skins.. but tonics and such I really don’t care about, they’re only temporary). However, it’d be cool to have in town activities around holidays.. like snowball fights in the town or water balloon fights (no real holiday surrounding that one but since we’re on the subject of balloons). To me, that’d be more appealing. I enjoy doing stuff more than just looking at stuff.. unless they gave some sort fun set of skills usable in town… give them to children as part of an event, tie big ones to small children in the name of grenth and watch them float away :-P
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Armor-Wardrobe/first#post404136
This same idea was proposed here.. we should merge these threads :-P
But yea, it’d be cool.
