This would be pretty nice.. however, they make money off of selling bank slots via gems so I don’t believe this will get implemented.. I’d be ok even if this new “tab” cost gems so long as it actually got implemented as it’d be cheaper in the long run to buy an armor storage system comparable to the armor locker in the mists than buying the amount of bank storage that would be required to actually store all that armor… and then you could ask.. what would go in the bank? if we make storage slots for everything, what would be the purpose? consumables!

This could also be an interesting pvp match type.. You could still keep two teams but each person on the team is worth more or less points based off of their contribution to their teams score.. this would encourage the opposite teams to focus fire on the other teams best player.. I might like that.

Flesh out the dodging system a bit

I would like to point out that you are wrong on one point. It does in fact matter what you’re dodging towards… I have seen a great many friends dodge roll off a very tall bridge that we’re fighting on.. try to evade that :-P

Seriously though, you might evade that one hit that will land while you’re still in the animation, but it would still be unwise to dodge roll toward a mob if that’s not what you intended… I believe for melee, this suggested change would make combat a bit more difficult than I’d like it to be.

The thing is in Orr, many of the risen already attack camps and take over which takes away a wp and merchants as the “incentive” to keep them around.

It could work a lot like these camps, but just at a much larger (more epic scale). It can even escalate the longer players hold onto the fleet, and the greater their numbers are.

Let’s say, for instance, at first smaller risen will flock to the walls, while siege weapons batter the walls from a distance. Soon mage will come and shoot barrages at players on top of the walls. Then, flyers will start swooping over the walls, terrorizing the occupants, while larger siege weapons, further away blast the walls and the players on the inside. Later on giants will come and bash the gates and walls, and if players get past that, undead dragons can drop down and wreak havoc.

The point is, the waves will grow and become more and more difficult, until eventually you loose the keep. Then players will need to retake it. The incentive to do so could be some special rewards on the inside, something worth keeping, and it could perhaps even become more rewarding to keep said “artifact” over a long period of time.

I think this would cool. I would prefer it, however, if there was a set amount of waves that would attempt to take the keep/castle that lasted a long time… 3 – 4 hours culminating in an undead dragon attempting to take it as well, knocking down one of the walls allowing a flood of undead in.. if you manage to push them all back and take down the dragon (or make it “retreat”) then the keep is safe for a certain amount of time… 2 – 4 hours.. either half the time of the length of the invasion attempts or an equal amount of time.. just so it doesn’t become the “be all, end all” of activities in Orr… there should be a time for a break to do other things in the area or run a dungeon or two.

it sounds good but only in theory.
in reality it wouldnt work as well, since most spells have some buld-up time before they go off,
and people tend to run around all the time, so u prolly wouldnt hit them with this option turned on.

That’s perfectly fine to me.. I don’t think this system would really be useful for PvP to begin with.. but PvE.. it would be a godsend. My necro would be eternally grateful.

Now wouldn’t THIS be a cool suggestion, to ADD damage types and defenses against types of damage.. adding a bit more depth to combat.

It didn’t add depth to combat in GW1. Elementalists would use fire against all enemies because the AOE made up for any fire resistance the foes might have. Except for the last mission of Prophesies. Their solution: Demand a ranger with winter to make all the fire damage into ice, which enemies were weak to.

The other classes had even less choice regarding damage types, if they had any choice at all.

It doesn’t help that resistances on enemies often doesn’t make sense. For example, lets look at the Maguuma Centaurs, found in the Maguuma Jungle:

Maguuma centaurs, except for the Hunters, have 20 additional armor against cold damage. Maguuma Hunters have +10 armor against cold damage but also have 30 less armor against earth damage.

Why are things found in a jungle resistant to the cold ?
Why do their rangers ( a class typically having high elemental resistance) have lower earth damage ?

Actually, what does earth damage even mean ?
Hit someone with a rock - Earth damage
Hit someone with a hammer – Physical
Either way you’re hitting someone with a blunt object. So I don’t see how a different damage type makes any sense at all.

awww.. i liked the idea :-/ it might not have worked well in GW1 but maybe they could do better in GW2? Granted, I can see how this might be a pain… because then only certain damage types would be wanted for certain fights so all classes must have these damage types to be equal and then that could possibly affect your character build depending on how the implement it.. They could have it based off of weapon types alone, whatever damage type your weapon is, is the damage type that all your abilities take on.. giving a good reason to have a variety of the same weapon other than just the looks (now i can have a use for my Krytan sword or my Asuran sword).. and also you could fight against 2 different types by duel wielding weapons of two different damage types.. there a lot of interesting possibilities.

They COULD add in a new tier of traits without “adding more levels” and it certainly has nothing to do with “making people get more top end gear”.

Make a new tier at level 80 and allow a larger allotment of trait points.. instead of a max at 70 make the max 90 so once again you can only possible have 2 trait tiers maxed with 10 points left over to throw somewhere else.

I’m not saying this is the best idea to make character builds more unique and customized but I believe it’s an idea worth taking into consideration. To me, that’s one thing I’d like to see.. more customization of character builds.. whether it be through a new trait tier or larger trait tiers or more skills or more weapons.. although to be honest my favorite idea so far was to make it so each weapon skill slot had a few options instead of being just being set in stone.. i know the reasoning behind it but it’d be cool all the same :-P

This isn’t even a good idea.
As I mentioned in my post. New content in Guildwars is about new skill abilities, not overwhelming your opponent with more levels or traits.

Once again I’d like to reiterate that no where do I mention more levels.. more traits yes.. either a new trait tier at level 80 (which is an EXISTING lvl in the game lol why do you keep mentioning “more levels”?) or the same 3 tiers with more traits to choose from or a new trait line altogether.. the trait system COULD stand to be made more in depth, more intricate.. Why do you have such a strong stance against added customization of the trait system?

See? everyone loved capping elites! lol so, instead of making it a part of content you normally wouldn’t want to do.. make it a one time reward from killing Kralkatorrik and the like (everyone wants to do that, right? i would hope so…).. and also make these particular elites less desirable than the elites you unlock via skill points similar to how the racial elites are supposed to be weaker than the class elites… that way you shouldn’t be seen as “needing” them to compete.

I like the ideas in this thread!

I really like the idea of using items instead of evolution though because then you’re guaranteed to get what you want.. however at the same time I feel like pet evolution in GW1 was a sort of meta game where you needed to play a certain way for your pet to “evolve” as you desired.. taking out the evolution and replacing it with items, although allowing you to get what you want faster, seems to cheapen the experience in my eyes :-/

One of the things I’ve been saying a lot lately.. make it so the weapon slot skills can be customized.. maybe 2 – 4 options per slot or make it so there are 6 – 12 mainhand skill options for a given class/weapon and 4 – 8 offhand skill options for a given class/weapon.. that’d add a lot of depth to character builds.. which i love ^.^

Another thing that I think would be really cool.. i know it sort of goes against the current utility skill acquisition system.. but more elites that you can capture off of dungeon bosses or the dragons after defeating them etc.. adding a sort of mini-game of skill capturing.. like GW1.. yea yea yea, i know, this isn’t GW1.. but still, it’s a cool idea.. I’m not saying have the same amount of elite skills… fewer but still acquired by doing something like a SM dungeon or defeating one of the dragon champions (Kralkatorrik, Tequatl etc.)

I like the sound of this.. I hope it goes somewhere.. I understand they didn’t want to make GW2 as complicated as GW1 as far as build goes.. but man I miss that customizability. Just making it so each weapon skill slot only had 2 – 4 options would make me happy.. or make it so each weapon had 9 main hand skills and 6 offhand skills and you could pick from those.. anything, anything at all to make it a little more customizable.. it’s alright as it stands but I wish there was a little more to it.

I can agree that this would make things more complicated and I know they were trying to steer clear of complication when it comes to combat.. but perhaps this wouldn’t be too much that it’d turn the average player off and just enough to make things more interesting for others.

And when I say “steer clear of complication when it comes to combat” i mean specifically that they had said at one point that one of the reasons why they wanted to make the weapons control the first 5 skills is so people didn’t create builds that were unusable.. they didn’t want to complicate things and allow people to set themselves up for failure.

Maybe add a counterpart trait that converts enemy boons into conditions when they are in range. That would be pretty cool.

That’s the necro’s job.
We shouldn’t be a profession that can do exactly evertyhing what the other professions can do, even if it’s weaker.

By itself, I consider the warhorn most useful in many cases, either general PvP or end-level PvE. Espacially with the trait converting conditions to boons. Man, you can put yourself “protection” lasting as much as there are stacks of vulnerability !

Frankly speaking, I’d rather see a two-handed axe as a new addition to your arsenal.

And to this I say… Well of Power! lol the necro does a mediocre conditions → boons (like our WH trait.. and that’s a trait, WoP is a skill), so why can’t we do a mediocre boons → conditions? Not trying to justify the new Major Trait idea (even though I do think it’s cool) but I just wanted to point that out.

What he’s asking for isn’t to use the WH to apply buffs, but to remove buffs from other players.. to use the WH itself offensively.. to have skills in slots 1, 2 and 3 for the WH.. but OP, that’d be a little weird, don’t you think? duel wielding WHs? You can’t really do a “hit” with a WH.. what would the attack animation be? lol.. it IS a cool idea, to be able to have offensive WH abilities.. but I don’t think the WH will ever be a main hand weapon.

edit

I do, however, hope they someday incorporate a bit of choice between the weapon slot skills.. so you could switch out skill slot 4 or 5 for different WH abilities, perhaps some could be offensive.. I would totally love that ^.^

As for what I said previously about more skills coming from expansions.. I’m not saying that I think they will throw a large number at us or anything like that, but I do think they’ll give us a few… Right now there are 5 types of skills for warriors (banners, signets, shouts, stances and physical abilities).. even that I think is fine, but there are only 4 skills of each skill type.. It’s not unreasonable to think they might give us 1 skill per skill type per class in each expansion, adding to the complexity and depth of each class. Maybe even less than that, who knows, I’m just saying that I think it would be nice.

callidus.7085

I’d like to start by saying that the game play as is keeps me satisfied.. but as the OP said, there’s always room for improvement, nothing is perfect (even if it’s the best game there is).

Fatalities instead of “banner planting” probably won’t happen as the game is censored quite a bit (kitties and kittens galore).. not a bad thing, they try to make it amusing with the different consumables that alter the visuals (running rabbits and such). The infinite dodging is also something I don’t think will happen but there may be a possibility of increasing it’s regen or making it so you can do 4 dodges in a row instead of only 2. At the moment, most classes do have ways to increase regen of the dodge pool.

That’s what I have to say about what others have posted.. but me personally, I think it’d be cool just to have more utility skills and traits to choose from (not a new tier or whole new tree, just more traits per tier). I have a feeling that in the expansions that this might become a reality.

If you read the OP carfefully he does say ‘it’s time to start talking about 1st content patch’.

But then he/she goes onto say ’ I doubt anyone will take them seriously if they will wait 3 months for 1st patch.’

So the OP IS expecting/wanting a content patch w/in the next 3 months.

I’ve been playing mmo’s since ‘99 w/ EQ and to tell the truth, I’m not sure if this is a reasonable expectation or not. Are we talking about a couple of DE’s and armor/weapon skins? A new dungeon? This maybe reasonable, but I don’t know.

Yea, see, I read the OP as well.. it seems a lot to me like the OP isn’t just asking the community to talk about it, but saying that ANet should have one out soon and I responded as such. Granted, I was very sarcastic, but I just don’t think that a content patch should be expected so soon. If they have it out, great, if not, I really don’t mind.. something for halloween would be cool but I wouldn’t hold it against them if we didn’t see anything just yet.

The point I was trying to make was directed at people who were apologizing for the OP. Some were saying the OP was just asking for a discussion regarding new content.

He WAS in fact asking for more content, and I was just pointing that out.

Continuing the point of the thread… things that makes Guild Wars 2 awesome:

1) Jumping Puzzles. I love these.. I love the excitement and tension as I almost fall off a giant cliff, where every step made could be your “last”. The satisfaction I feel once I complete one with my friends as we all laugh at each other from falling etc.

2) Dungeons. Holy crap are these things hard.. once you actually get a strategy down (other than zerging, which makes you frustrated from deaths and repair bills) you feel immensely satisfied. Granted the groups I run with do a lot of zerging, but some bosses just don’t allow this at all (explorable modes). I have a feeling that once all the boss strategies are compiled people won’t complain as much about how difficult these are and worry more about strategy execution.

3) Armor and Weapon Skins. Gotta say, there’s a lot to love here. Some things look silly (lol those bows someone posted, the unicorn/rainbow bow) but a lot of other skins look down right badkitten (i love how they replace everything with “kitten” or “kitty”, makes the forums a little more comical to read).

4) The storyline. I haven’t completed it, but I’ve loved it so far.

The game is amazing and I can’t wait to get home to continue playing.

When I began reading all these posts yesterday about how bad the diminishing returns patch was, I was horrified.. I was thinking, “there’s no way ANet did this.. o my god, what if they did? What if doing any more than 1 event in a chain is now worthless.. what if running dungeons isn’t economically feasible.. I have to grind gold to get money to do dungeons because of repair costs!” I was fooled by all the complaining I saw on here, I went and did some dynamic events and ran CM last night and to my satisfying amazement, everything was fine. Dynamic events only show diminishing returns if you do them almost simultaneously.. completing another event 5~10m later shows no diminishing returns. Running CM is now ACTUALLY a bit of a challenge, perhaps a little harder than a storymode dungeon should be, but still a lot easier than AC and faster too… I had a 7 silver repair bill at the end and the reward gave me 11 silver.. that doesn’t count what I made from selling all the drops. The last patch did not break the game. If you’re basing your opinion on just the forum posts or other people’s experiences, I encourage you to try everything out for yourself.
