I would suggest using arah or dry bones set. They suit the necro best.

In pve as a mesmer you use your clone to distract, then you see that en if thee mob is lv 5 and youre downleveled kitten , you see the mob comming back to you without even nothicing the clone you left… (of couse shame at you dyign to a lv 5 mob, but you know im exagerating) but as guardian, mesmer and thief, the only usefull downed state ive seen is the necro one… with thief even if you use the stealth and reapear somewhere else the mob is so intelligent that he knows he hasnt finished his work and will agro you until you lie DEAD… the necro paired with the guardian (and ranger) that can heal himself while dealing damage in downed.
Is interesting how you can aoe 5 guys at max, but you can be instagibed by 15 focusing you… well even if they arent focusing you ake their aoe. it could be a little confusing at first but i think it has to be changed if the max aoe is 5, there should be a mechachic that lets you only take damage from 5 people focusing you.

my necro is lv 30 and ive never used a minion sinse i got the heal consume conditions XD. even if yo dont trait them, some of them could be of use, like the bone minons.
Gather a pack of mobs, use poison clowd, summon minions, detonate them and you get all the mobs with weaknes for a good time so you will be gettiong arroung 50% less damage XD, but if you dont want, just, staf 23345, scepter 2 dagger 5, blood is power, EPIDEMIC and look how they melt XDDD
i dont use power/crit, im still lv 31 with my neco, using condition damage (on lv power+condition damage) and only silvers can live past staff 2 3 septer 2 dagger 5. and even if silvers doesnt die they just melt on my feets XD, butw something cool is.
As a condition mancer ive done a lot of group event alone, even boses+the surrounding mobs, i dont even care about them, i just make a rotation of my conditions then blood is power+ Epidemic then MUAHAHAHA melt all over my feets XD, something cool abut conditions is, you never stop damaging foes, even is youre dodging youre still doing damage, and there are those thimes where you cant just melee, scepter 2 staff 3 and job done XD
i would love my necro to have a evil laught like in in LOL, so i do that combo (its a simple combo i know i could DS6 and 3 to finish, maybe a well too or poison cloud) and make an evil laught to the mobs wich are just melting out there XD

I started as a necromancer when this game launched, put him onto a shelf for several months because of all of the bugs and started maining it again 2 or 3 months ago. I play mostly condition mancer so this comes from my point of view.
The problem with the necro changes is that necromancers using conditions didn’t lack damage, not at all. I was able to melt a mug thief in WvW, 1v2 situation, I was alone, in 3 seconds while running away from his ranger friend, because I used fear on cc trait, doom and dark path and hit him with my staff 2.
I was able to melt bunkers over time.
Don’t tell me I don’t do any good in WvW. A well timed epidemic does 3+k dps to 5 ppl, and I will convert 25 boons with my well.I don’t see nerfing the terror trait as the solution for reducing the damage. Why? The trait I used has an IC of 90 seconds and it’s highly situational and countered by stability.
The fear on CC for example requires the thief to use basilisk venom in order to proc and then it requires the opponent to be close, but if it procs, the hell is rained upon my opponent.
Doom was buffed in this patch. If you hit an opponent from the range of 600-1200 he will be feared for 1 sec (which was always the case pre patch). Now if you hit an opponent with doom under 600 range, you will get 1.5 sec fear.
This change was well needed for sPvP, where you cannot get so much extra condition duration, but in WvW/PvE the fear length gets ridiculous with 186% or 200% fear duration allowing for 3 terror tics on a 20 or 17 sec cooldown instead of 2. This was basically +50% damage to doom on terror builds.
Yes, unfortunately this makes necromancers OP. Not talking about the Dhuumfire which makes hybrid builds sending their opponents to the moon.
ANet people haven’t listened the whole community. Just the “buff conditions buff buff” talk. Many necromancers were saying that their damage was good (pre patch) and all they needed was a bit more stabi/vigor/mobi to avoid being runned over by 5+ enimies.
People were concerned about the new condition creating unbalance. Many asked for a new skill instead, something that would make us last longer in a fight or help to relocate ourselves. I was asking to get the burning by just replacing some of the bleeds with it leaving the overall damage done to the same, just splitting some of it for burning instead of all bleeding.
This would have created more reliability for our condition damage, not being dependant on just 1 or 2 conditions.
ANet should look at theirselves. Nerfing terror is not the way to go. Just adding pure damage is not the way to go. You need to listen to everyone, not just the part who says “more dmg pls”. Look what you have done.
Doom change should be reverted outside of sPvP.
Dhuumfire needs a rework.
Death Shroud 5 needs a rework.What comes to Spectral Wall, it is highly situational skill countered by stability and should be left that way.
Torment is unbalancing the game, focusing even more people to get as many CondCleans as possible, which was the pre patch meta specially in WvW. It just punishes people with no CondCleans even harder.
If they’re going to nerf boon effects, I’m going to cry. They should even try to make boons so that some of them are ment to have high uptime (swiftness, regen) and some for doing/avoiding quick moves (protection, might, retal).
My suggestion is, it’s time to make a cap for their duration and then look at them again.
Simply adding damage to somewhere in one patch and taking it away from elsewhere or reducing effects (of boons) is not the way to go.
Necromancers were “not in their spot” pre patch. Now they are considered to be OP.
It’s time to adjust and modify the profession. Not to change it. Start by reverting some of the changes and finding the golden way between the necros of pre and post patch.

ok your argument is you had to blow everything to escape but doesn’t that not count the same for many other professions who still can’t escape a thief?
Thieves are supposed to be high-burst but squishy. If you can manage to pin them down better than they can manage to escape, they should die.
Necros are supposed to be an attrition class. If you get into a fight with a Necro, it should be difficult to escape and difficult to kill them, but there should be a reasonable window of time in which you can outplay their attrition. It shouldn’t simply be impossible to kill them and they shouldn’t be able to spike you down instantly while still having attrition mechanics.
To put it simply, there should be a smooth tradeoff between offense and defense. If I can kill you instantly, you should be able to kill me instantly. If I’m trying to wear you down, it should be possible to wear me down. This has nothing to do with individual professions and everything to do with a balanced risk/reward formula. The counterplay option of “just don’t fight” should only very rarely be the best (or even remotely the best) option. The game should encourage engaging in fights, not discourage it.
There is a meta where thieves believe that they will win every 1v1 to the point they are completely arrogant that when they are beaten it must mean the opponent is OP
No, I think the more skilled opponent should win in 1v1, if both are specced for roaming. Which isn’t to say I think I’m more skilled at my thief than this Necro was at her necro or anything. It just didn’t feel like skill really mattered here.
Iv seen it so many times just the other day a guy got stomped by a thief stealthing out and wearing the guy down the dude came back to where the thief was roaming setup a stealth trap thief tripped it lost his escape mechanism got beaten got rage invited the guy to party only to call him a stupid noob lol
Conversely, I added this Necro to my party to ask her about her build and congratulate her for beating me, which I usually do when I lose a duel.
Ive always given thieves a run for their money, this patch just makes it more painful for them. We’re one of few classes that doesnt need a target to unleash a ton of damage, which is something they should fear. On the other hand if they play smart avoid our siphon and avoid/evade or marks, they can destroy us pretty bad. Problem for most theives is they dont know necros well enough to fight them effectively.
Oh yeah, I take particular glee in killing Thieves on my Necro. I also knew how to avoid a lot of this Necro’s burst. I was dying even AFTER dodging most of her marks and clearing her condis.

Assuming your opponent is a mongoloid and doesn’t dodge/sidestep the garbage dark path or interrupt your DS5 channel.
He can’t sidestep to evade a homing projectile, also since my example included DS5 this would be within 600 range. So the only way to dodge this combo would be dodging Doom, and that is hard because it’s an instant cast skill.
(Is it even possible to interrupt DS5?)
Torment is a terrible condition, why would you subsitute it for burning?
It’s not a terrible condition.
And the whole point is to combine 2 damaging conditions into one, so the combo gets less effective and easier to cleanse.
The same could be achieved by replacing torment with burning on DS5, but that would be way more powerful and kind of defeat the purpose of introducing torment in the first place.Also, in groups an intensitiy stacking condition beats a condi that stacks in duration.
It would also not affect thieves or mesmers or eles at all since their teleports don’t incur torment.
Why? If you hit them with Tainted Shackles they will get torment, nothing they can do about it. Same for an on crit condition.
You can sidestep it. Have you not WvW’d at all? A person with swiftness can tilt before the homing projectile makes enough of a curve. The same applies to spectral grasp. Doom is hardly an issue with either healing rain around or a simple switch to water attunement/cleansing wave or a guardian shout with runes or a putrid mark.
You CAN interrupt Tainted Shackles. It has a cast time. It happens to me all the time as I get caught in a zerg and my foot in the grave stability is immediately stripped.
Torment is a terrible condition. It’s a 3 stack bleed intensity on a 40 sec cd with possible double damage if the opponent keeps moving. You can hit a thief or mesmer or ele with torment, but it won’t cc or punish movement because if they want to disengage they will teleport away or to you and take far less damage than say a warrior or guardian would because they need to move to you.
3 stacks every 10 seconds would still be pretty bad.
And on top of it all you’re screwing necromancers in wvw and pve where their targets may be stationary so their burning gets replaced by a bleed at 75% effectiveness.
Burning on necro is more than fine. The problem on necro is epidemic. Terror chains have significant cooldowns and in group settings are perfectly cleansed if not for epidemic chains.
Epidemic has always been the problem and it needs to be changed.

And let’s say a necro opens a fight like this: marks 2-4, DS 5, DS 2, DS 3.
Then your opponent has: bleeding, poison, chill, weakness, burning, torment, fear, immobilized.

Yep, they dont know that Egies got bleed, confusion, BURN, and poison with just equiping x2 pistols, + a cleave on target with pistol 1. WE dont even got any kind of cleave.

Necros have great Condition removal. Probably the best.
This makes it very hard to estimate how hard it is for other Professions to get rid of them until you’ve played multiple Professions.For a quick estimate you can look at:

Consume Conditions is the best healing skill for many builds.
Off-hand Dagger and the Staff are great.
All three are found in most Condition and Hybrid builds because they just rock!
(Our defense against Stuns is seriously lacking, though.)Plague signet isn’t all bad either, having a stunbreak.
Many other Professions need to make pretty hefty sacrifices to get Condition removal.
Imagine if you had to run Shrouded Removal, Fetid Consumption and Well of Power to fight against Conditions.You couldn’t run one of your current Utility skills because you need Well of Power.
You couldn’t run Greater Marks because you need Shrouded Removal.
You’d need to run 30 Blood Magic and have Minions.Exaggerated example but… yeah.
yehm and there are other clases like guardian that got a healing signet that removes 1 condition every 10 seconds, + trait removes 1 condition every 10 seconds. Entrer the place change your signet to another heal, wait 4 seconds and put the signet again and VOILAAAAAAAAAAAAA, you get to remove 1 condition every 5 seconds -.-

The problem with necros currently, and the reason for the cry is very simple.
1. have 40 percent crit and get dhuumfire to proc.
2. Flip to ds and get torment on everyone.
3. chain 2 fears together
This can be done in less than 3 seconds, and a player has no ability to respond during this time, because fear is ticking, you forced the extra torment damage, and burn is crazy powerful. It’s really strong right now but terror nerf isn’t what’s needed.

So I wanted to update my current situation, I posted up a while ago to upvote the MM build, and now I have more experience with it.
I do Tpvp with a team every night and we have gone undefeated for the last 10 games, granted this is not professional league or anything but we do really well (I think) and hopefully can play some better competition.
we run with a engi, war, guard, MM necro (me) and another (mesmer/ranger/Ele). I ALWAYS go mid point right away. and surprisingly I am normally the last one standing IN THE THICK of it. I Mean I am tanky with all these minions. I normally blast my little buggers when they are low and just do overall aoe dmg and CC.
Bas noted that the MM is not viable in team fights, but from my (granted, not as vast) experience I have been doing really well, I eat up 1v1s (especially non-MM necros), and can stay alive in 2v1 3v1s long enough for help. Almost always turn the tide in 2v2s. I have found that I can stay alive MUCH longer then my previous power style builds, as well as put out more dmg with my minions
I look forward to finding a non-minion master necro build that can kill me, I have watched the past couple mist league games and sadly the necros I saw were not MM, they seemed to be conditionmancers?

moving traits isn’t really an option at this point, and moving Terror up to GM level won’t accomplish anything in terms of balance. If anything it would further limit build diversity by placing our two strongest traits at one end of the build spectrum.
Terror’s damage increase likely needs to be removed since it was a holdover from when Terror was intended to bandaid our poor condition output. Doom now only requires 30% duration increase while within 600 range to gain the extra damage tick, and with burning on top of it we’ve gained roughly a 150% damage increase on a single combo.
Keep in mind though that as far as glass cannon builds go, our current hybrid build isn’t that far above status quo.
And it is SINGLE TARGET SO WHO CARES, it’s not instant damage, its condition, so WHO CARES; it can be cleansed, SO WHO CARES; it could be STUN BREAKED, so WHO CARES, mmm no? you didint equip any cleanse? no stun breaker? you dint dodged thro spectral wall??? then.. youre a NOOB and you REALLY deserve to die and… WHO CARES!
what people doesnt undestand about terror and DFire in 1v1 situation is… yea NOOB if your build is PURE DPS ZERKER STATS then yeh… my terror Dfire will own you… but if you are someone that actually equips cleanses, know how to dodge, and stun breakers then mmm yeh you got an oportunity.

Conditions are a wasted aspect of gameplay as long as cleanses are as available as air is breathable (which for all classes apart from mesmer, is prevalent. Then there’s runes and food…)

Dagger 1 has a 50% higher skillcoefficient per second than DS1. Thats 50% more dps. With support and a 30/25/00/15 Build (or 30/30, w/e), you reach ~90% crtichanche. You can ignore some critical hit chanche in a DS build, but your still missing precision while generating LF. And Dagger 1 deals roughly the same damage as Axe 2.
Why should I use Deathshroud or axe in a direct dps build?
You are not taking into consideration activation times of skill and the delay between activations… it’s not 50% higher, it’s actually only 20% higher… trust me on that one.
Yes… it’s higher, it actually is… the problem is if you have 3 seconds of no DPS in melee, you lost your “higher” advantage.
Not saying play with DS 1 or axe or dagger 1… i’m saying play with all, and build youself so you can play with all at all times so you have 100% DPS uptime.

now the reality, 14 1/2 seconds torment (5 stacks) every 9 1/2 seconds… the real damage would be arrownd 12k damage or something if the targed is moving…
