I would never run a “signet build”, a build built around signets. I’ve always viewed signets as complimentary pieces to, not foundations of, whatever build you’re shooting for. But do let us know how it works.
lol, did they still not fix Scope? It’s been, what, nine months and this trait is still broken? lol, that’s bad. That’s really bad.
I agree with you OP but guess what.. Anet just wants to line there pockets with as much money as they can.
If that’s the case, why didn’t they put the new gauntlets in the Gem Shop? Or why did they give us the entirety of the F&F living story free of charge? And why didn’t they make Continue Coins for SAB Gem Shop items?
Seriously, some of you people need to grow up.
I’ll give 2:1 odds TC is rocking full ’zerker gear.
The way I see it, the only things elementalists do better than other classes is area of effect damage (as in, their aoes are larger, not necessarily harder hitting) and combo fields. Other than that, I don’t see much an elementalist can do another profession couldn’t do better.
Its like a hyperbole tornado by all the pro-nerfers tonight.
Pretty sure there’s plenty of hyperbole from the anti-nerfers, too.
Surely you’re not suggesting we play video games for fun!? Preposterous!
So you want a wow style never ending gear grind?
That’s not at all what he/she said. Stop projecting your insecurities onto others.
Would it be so bad to allow more players to see these weapon skins rather than wasting 100s of dollars or more on keys and never seeing one?
Would it be bad? No. Would it be less profitable? That’s the question that matter.
Can we stop with the communist attitude in a F2P game already ? Ofc Anet wants profit, geniuses. You get to play the game everyday 24/7 if you want to for free, and you can take a break and not have your CC charged every month.
It’s purely cosmetic, you dont NEED it to play the game.I take my statement back if you prove you get up and go to work every morning to be paid in candies -if at all- and actually make a living out of it.
Gosh… Kids nowadays want everything for nothing.I will agree with 1 thing : the random chance to get them is not cool. But you still dont need it to play.
Have I, in this post or anywhere else, derided ANet for selling products for which people are willing to pay? How about your point your snarky attitude somewhere else?
And by the way, Guild Wars 2 isn’t F2P, genius.
Would it be so bad to allow more players to see these weapon skins rather than wasting 100s of dollars or more on keys and never seeing one?
Would it be bad? No. Would it be less profitable? That’s the question that matter.
Yeah but you can’t tell me with all the crap in the gem store that they aren’t swimming in money.
The rule of thumb regarding money is “if some is good, more is better.”
I don’t care for the lottery-ticket approach and wish they’d simply offer us the items we want for a one-time, straight-up fee. That’s a win/win; we get the items we want and they get our money. But evidently enough people get hooked into the Black Lion Chest-only approach to make it worthwhile for ANet to doing it this way.
Would it be so bad to allow more players to see these weapon skins rather than wasting 100s of dollars or more on keys and never seeing one?
Would it be bad? No. Would it be less profitable? That’s the question that matter.
That does seem a bit odd. Vitality is a useful stat, for sure. But I can’t think of a single reason someone would want to make it their primary focus. Oh well.
Okay, now that the hoopla over the RTL/MF has died down I’m going to bump this thread.
Clicks “Create Topic” while sarcastically whistling REM’s It’s the End of the World as We Know It"…
Hello fellow gamers. Patch day is upon us and the game has been destroyed yet again, I’m sure. I happened to notice in the patch notes that some item icons have been updated. For whatever reason, I’m always keen to know what these new icons look like after such changes have been made. So, if you’d be so kind, please list any items you’ve noticed now bearing new icons. Thanks.
I would kill – literally end someone’s life (not really) – to replace the guardian’s supportive Shield of Absorption with the defensive Shield of Wrath. I have seen more than a few players express an interest in outfitting their character in a lighter armor than is normally allowed by their profession. But these kinds of customizations, the long windups on our skills, the slow speed of our projectiles, they’re all disallowed because of the impact they would have on PvP.
It’s that desire to make GW2’s PvP into an e-sport that limits PvE, in my humble opinion. Those long windups on our skills are necessary so a skilled PvP opponent can interrupt them before their executed. Those slow projective speeds are necessary so a skilled PvP player can dodge the attack before it strikes home. The lack of weapon skill customization or liberties in choosing a lighter armor for aesthetic reasons are so the knowledgeable PvP player can see and immediately recognize what his opponent is capable of doing.
As is, these restraints are necessary. However, if ANet were to abandon their e-sport dreams (or simply recognize that balancing PvP without restricting PvE is impossible) they really give themselves a lot of room to play around with some interesting game mechanics.
If this game is to run for a long time (and I hope you’re all with me when I say I hope it will), what we’ve got is eventually going to get old. Imagine using the same five weapon skills you’ve been using for another two or three years. There’s only so much you can do with five weapon skills and 70 trait points before you grow bored. A hard separation between PvP and PvE – something ANet originally wanted to avoid, if I’m not mistaken – I think is the first step to a deeper PvE experience.
Thoughts?
The world ends tomorrow, boys. Remember, have your quarter ready before you enter the Suicide Booth so those waiting to kill themselves over profession-ruining game adjustments can do so in a timely fashion.
i support the OP.
anet knows jack about balancing
Yeah, you guys are the ones to go to for the 411 on game balance. Right? Right? Typical gamer’s take on balance: “my class is underpowered and all other classes are overpowered, please buff and nerf accordingly.”
Whats sad, is that the patch notes for the 30th update isn’t even out yet, you don’t even know what is ACTUALLY happening to the Ele, and yet you are saying you are gonna quit? Please, leave the game then.
Sadder still is the number of people who think they understand the ins and outs of the game better than the people who built it from the ground up.
Implementation of at least one mini-game per city and inclusion of mini-games as a permanent rotation on daily achievements would assuredly increase traffic.
My first MMO experience was on a WOW PvP server and I remember the thrill of leveling up in “contested” areas.
The “thrill of leveling up in ‘contested’ areas” soon enough degenerates into the “the frustration of being griefed by kittenes”.
This same sentiment can usually be found within every single sub-forum the days before a major patch. You’re not alone. And because you’re not alone, I’m inclined to believe things won’t be near as bad as you believe.
(edited by darkace.8925)
I think that it’s supposed to be a glaive, which is a two bladed weapon usually. Similar to a sword.
If the game or lore describes the Claw as a glaive, how do you know it’s not in reference to a polearm?
sad to say.. when a game is free to play the only concern is getting new customers not holding old ones.
Do you people actually believe this crap? Or are you just in such a state of anger that you don’t even realize what you’re typing?
Consider a thief with a shortbow, a warrior with a longbow, or an engineer with a grenade kit or a flamethrower.
BTW it’s “shamen”.
No, it’s not.
Hmm, very solid counter argument there. However, Google is your friend.
I sadly don’t get the vibe you’re trolling. I wish you were, as it would be easy to write your post off and intended, but alas…
As per Google:
Shamans
shamans plural of sha·man
Noun
A person having access to, and influence in, the world of spirits, esp. among some peoples of northern Asia and North America.
Shamen
Did you mean: define: shaman
Did you want to try again?
Before you answer that allow me to point out the fact that my auto-correct highlights “shamen” as misspelled. No such occurrence happens with “shamans”. Also allow me to point out that you’re arguing with the freaking dictionary.
Now then, did you want to try again?
BTW it’s “shamen”.
No, it’s not.
In/when player housing is ever implemented (or just somewhere in our home instance) please allow us to have personal storage (separate from our banks) via furniture*. Something in which I can store personal keepsakes – kept solely for sentimental reasons – without taking space away from my consumables and crafting materials would be great.
- a new crafting discipline utilizing wood, leather, and cloth to make furniture would pair nicely with player housing.
I’m using a berserker lightning hammer build.
I found your problem, and I didn’t even have to read past the first sentence to find it.
If you’re profession has both the lowest armor and the lowest health pool in the game and you’re going to make a build around conjuring melee weapons, wouldn’t you be better served investing in some knight’s or soldier’s gear?
To the larger point, not all skill-types are useful in all situations. Turrets, for example, make for poor choices for roaming engineers.
Take a look at sPvP. Confusion simply isn’t used there, because it is terrible.
Forgive me for stating the obvious, but PvP isn’t WvW. Just as WvW isn’t PvE. Not all builds are viable in all arenas; ArenaNet has stated as much. A full-on, 100% confusion-spamming build might take too long to get rolling in PvP while still being perfectly viable in WvW.
Will it still deal damage? Yeah, sure.
If this statement is true (which it is) then the statement “rabib gear is useless for mesmsers” must be false.
Will that damage amount to anything? No, it will not.
There’s a LOT of space between “it’s not as effective as it once was” and “it will amount to nothing”
Tell me what would happen if they took Guardian’s Burning and reduced it’s damage to half. Would you still be willing to use Condition Damage on a Guardian.
(Not that you should use Condition Damage on a Guardian, but it’s a solid example since that is their main condition as Confusion is ours.)
That’s not quite an apples to apples comparison. Guardian’s only dot is Burning, mesmer’s have access to three (four if you count Confusion).
I’m not trying to argue for the sake of arguing, but I think we all – deep down inside – know a nerf was called for. Whether or not this is the proper way to do it, I can’t say. Since we don’t have the full patch notes neither can you, for the time being. It may very well prove to be overkill on ANet’s part. But let’s dial back the “the end is nigh” hysteria and wait and see how things play out.
Because the only real damaging conditions we will be able to apply will be Burns and Bleeds, with very limited ability to stack either on a target? AFAIK, Winds of Chaos and Sharper Images are the only methods of putting a bleed on a target, and we only have Winds of Chaos and The Prestige for Burning.
Maybe if they made it so Illusionary Elasticity affected Clones properly we’d be fine, but as it stands those simply aren’t enough methods of applying conditions to make Condition Damage a worthwhile stat.
So Confusion is being removed from the game?
I neither understand nor care for the changes to Mug. I liked it just fine the way it was. I’m not going to throw myself from a cliff, mind you; the sun will still rise tomorrow. But I’d rather they have left it alone.
Rabid armor as a mesmer is useless now!
Care to explain to me why rabid armor is useless to mesmers?
soooo what condition does a mesmer have left then?none…ty anet! oh well be looking for a new class then or a new game.
Yeah, this one change is totally going to destroy the mesmer class. RIP mesmer, you’ll be missed.
Except when that condition is one of the few real conditions the class have and part of a core build…
The other things dont sound too bad, but I think the confusion nerf will hit the Mesmer HARD (and to some degree, the engineer). I have zero condition damage (PVT) but even then, as a glamour build confusion is a vital part of doing damage. I would honestly just prefer if they altered it to work like burning or something, just add duration instead of stacking.
I don’t get it. You’re a condition memser who runs no condition damage? Why don’t you ask P/V/T necromancers how well their condition builds do? Don’t complain about something not working before you’re not even bothering to see if it works in the first place.
well now im being forced to buy a whole set of new armor and forced to be a shatter mesmer which i don’t wanna be.i have no more condition dmg. no nothing. now i gotta safe a ton of gold to be able to play in wvw again as confusion is worth nothing and useless like it is in pvp.sry this just ruins it for me.
First of all, you’re not being forced into anything. I promise you there are more viable builds for mesmer than just confusion builds. Second of all, you’re jumping to conclusions when you assume this change will make confusion builds unplayable. Third of all, I promise you you can get gear for a new build with less than “a ton of gold”. Exotics are expensive; but believe it or not, one can be very effective in WvW with less than exotics.

What do you get?
A balanced game.
So I’ve been running Arcane Power on my glass cannon staff elementalist since level 20ish (I’ve been 80 for some time), and it’s taken me until now to realize that I don’t much care for it. So I’m going to replace it.
My other two utility skills are Arcane Wave and Signet of Fire. I think I’ve narrowed my choice down to either the Glyph of Elemental Power or the Glyph of Storms. If anyone has an feedback they’d like to give me on either of those two skill I’d appreciate some feedback. Thanks.
Annoying players is the whole point of a world boss.
I guess you and I want very different things from our video games. I want world bosses to be fun, engaging, challenging, and rewarding. You want them to be annoying. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
I believe that bosses should have telegraphed and avoidable knockdown aoe but it must do no damage
AOE doesnt really scale as number of players goes up since it complete area denial like Genth. However, aoe will give the boss a damage migration mechanic.
A good example of low to no damage aoe is jormag second stage ice push attack. If the player doesnt activate charrzooka shield then the player will be push pack and unable to dps
I’m sorry, but those mechanics add nothing to the fight. All they do is serve to prolong the fight and slightly annoy the players. The bosses need dynamic combat mechanics with real, tangible threats. Running away from fear for a few seconds or being knocked down by a wave of ice carry no real consequences, and thus are all but meaningless.
We can’t very well be scurvy pirates if we’re eating fruit all the time.
“But I don’t want to be a pirate,” Jerry Seinfeld.
Why can’t I eat an apple unless I first sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar on it?
Why can’t I eat a banana unless I first dip it in chocolate?
In the grand scheme of things, this “issue” is about as trivial as it gets. But I don’t like that fruit in its natural form is inedible.
I will say most of all the Hylek as they are large talking frogs whats not to like, And again just think of the interesting race skills they could use!
The only utility skill that comes to mind when thinking of hylek racial skills is Beg for Food.
This is a great place to throw out your ideas of what you’d like to see any of them do encounter wise to make them more exciting.
Here’s my proposal (it applies specifically to the dragon fights):
– Make the dragons too tough to be harmed by player attacks.
– Make them vulnerable to NPC-operated artillery.
– Spread the artillery out in three or so emplacements.
– Have waves of enemies assault each emplacement throughout the fight.
– Have the number and size of waves scale with more players.
– Add veterans and champions as more players participate.
– This forces players to spread out to defend the artillery long enough to win.
Lag and culling could be a problem, but at least the players would be engaged and (theoretically) forced to utilize some measure of teamwork.
He’s too loathed to keep. Ignoring him (not mentioning him in the game) going forward would leave a huge hole in the lore; “what ever happened to the leader of the Pact?” Having him around just to fill some minor role, a quest-giver or such, will remind players how much they hate him. So I think he needs to die. But they can’t just kill him unceremoniously; doing so would be tantamount to an admission that he sucks as a character.
So what I’d do is have him assassinated by a member of some doomsday cult, a group of resourceful nut jobs who welcome the Elder Dragons and the destruction they bring. I’d then work this faction into the story going forward, having them oppose the Pact’s efforts the stop the dragons. They’d be the anti-Pact, filling a role similar to that of the Nightmare Court, Inquest, Sons of Savnir, Flame Legion, etc.
I’m confused. I was listing reasons why the developers allegedly dropped their initial plans to add Centaur PCs, all of which are very valid and still stand. But that seems to make you upset? Then the next guy you quote asks for Centaur PCs and that… also makes you upset? Are you for or against them?
My overly-dramatic “no!s” were in response to the suggestion/desire for centaurs to be playable. Rather than tax the art department with making leg armor and footwear work for centaurs, I’d rather them spend their time giving all races new armor.
But there are other reasons I’m against them, too. Lore-wise, they don’t work. They, like the krait, exit purely to serve as antagonists. I know Zhed was playable in GW1, but this isn’t GW1. Centaurs now wear the proverbial black hat.
Additionally, I think it would be awkward to be a tall, quadrupedal character incapable of running any faster than a short, stunty asura. Then there are the animations and hit-boxes to consider. Swimming as a centaur would look awkward.
And since all races share the same-sized hitboxes and occupy the same amount of space, regardless of model size and shape, everyone’s hitbox and occupied space would have to be elongated to match that of the centaur. This creates all sorts of problems for combat, jumping puzzles, and clipping.
Speaking of jumping puzzles. How is something the size and shape of a centaur going to navigate a jumping puzzle like, say, Coddler’s Cove? Think of all the problems that come with whatever answer you can think of.
As a compromise I’ll fashion for you a stick horse. Then you get to gallop around Queensdale to your heart’s content and I get to never have to see centaurs as a playable race.
C’mon don’t be like that!
You wont have to pay for waypoints anymore, just hop on my back!
I’m saving you money!!
It won’t work. Otherwise my intellectually-superior asura would long ago have ordered some bookah of a norn to carry him around in his/her backpack.
Any chance we’ll ever see two-handed weapons changed so that they have two upgrade slots? Choosing one sigil or the other with two-handed weapons just isn’t as fun as having both (as is the case when duel wielding).
+1 for centaurs.
I have always wanted to be a dryad, or centaur or some sort of 4 legged race!
If I can’t have a pretty horse mount to ride around queensdale on, let me gallop around myself! xD
As a compromise I’ll fashion for you a stick horse. Then you get to gallop around Queensdale to your heart’s content and I get to never have to see centaurs as a playable race.
As with most things, it depends…
The last person standing because he’s actually invested in some Toughness and Vitality when the rest of the party is comprised of one-track-minded berserkers is still standing because he’s the only one of the bunch with wisdom. The last person standing because he ran away at the first sign of resistance is still standing because he’s selfish and a coward.
In my experience I’ve noticed that the staff is not a very “involving” weapon to play with the elementalist. You stay well away from the mob and blast it with fire skills.
Looking back (I have long since abandoned using the staff)
Most of the source of DPS came from my fire attunement.Sources of DPS on the other attunements are seriously lacking.
That said, I highly encourage looking at other builds with your staff; you can go less defensive with staff and go more glass cannon cause you are able to maintain your range.
I’m running pretty close to full glass cannon. I’m 30/20/0/0/20 with berserker’s weapon and armor and beryl trinkets for a spot of needed health.
And I agree with you about the attunements. They’ve each got a hard-hitting skill in the 2-slot, but other than that it’s either damage in fire or a bunch of utility. Now I’m not one to thumb my nose at utility, but unfortunately much of this game is designed in a way that damage trumps utility when it comes to dealing with problems.
