I completely overlooked that one. True, it has +Boon Duration; but it’s +Magic Find makes it less desirable for people looking to maximize their effectiveness during things like Fractals. But thanks for pointing out my oversight.

More space in the bars – the 5 slot works fine in Pve where you always know what is coming but in WvW you don’t and it severely limits what you can do.

This is the one thing I’d least like to see. A screen cluttered with UI elements and slathered with skill bars is very, very unappealing to me.

I personally hope ArenaNet continue with the tradition of releasing minipets. I was an avid mini collector in GW & I’d love to be the same here in GW2.

Normally I kinda liked them, but there are so many around right now. I’d rather see some old GW1 weapon skins, some of the popular ones but better looking with the new game.

That’s a large part of my anti-mini-pet sentiment. Collecting them – and if you’re in to them there’s no reason not to, it’s an all or nothing thing for me – is virtually impossible without dropping a small fortune because of the rate at which they add and remove them to the gem store in rng chests.

They already have one, it’s called gold. They have another with minimal rng, it’s called Laurels.

Pockets devoid of cluttering terrain, aggressive mobs, and endless chains of events where players can just drink in the open space and enjoy the peace and quiet would be a welcome break from the arduous work that is saving the world from destruction.

I don’t want to see every casual player obtaining his precursor in a day.
This need to be challenging so people have to work hard for it.
In my opinion, this is one of the most important things to pay attention while designing the hunt

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to address this. You make is sound as if the only thing required to get a Legendary is the precursor. It’s not. There’s a TON of work required without even considering the precursor.

If ANet gave everyone a precursor tonight – literally mailed them the precursor of their chioce – how many people have the world completion, WvW badges, T6 materials, skill points, etcos, and gold to get convert that into a Legendary? I’ll wager it’s not nearly so many as you’re making it out to be.

Glad to hear something is in works, but I hope it isn’t just a Gift of Mastery v 2.0 (do this and this and that and this and that) or a Gift of Fortune v 2.0 (get really lucky or grind a ton of gold/materials). I’d like the precursor to be obtained through heroic adventure, not menial tasks or mindless grinding.

And while you guys are addressing the precursor, mind dropping the material requirements from 250 to 100 and the Icy Runestones from 100 to – I don’t know – say 25?

Something else I enjoyed during my free trial of WoW was the chests, boxes, crates, etc strewn about the world. There would be chests in enemy camps with foods, crates and barrels from shipwrecks lying about the beach, etc. GW2 has chests, too, but it somehow just isn’t the same. The chests in GW2 feel more loot-based, whereas those in WoW (open world) felt more atmospheric.

If that’s true, then would an approximate percentage both allow them to keep their secrets while allowing customers to make informed decisions about the products they’re purchasing?

Where did I say I didn’t like it? I said I was disappointed. I loved the Flame & Frost dungeon. The end boss was the funnest boss fight in the entire game. How awesome was it that you could change the dynamics of the fight based on who you killed first? I’m disappointed because I can no longer run the dungeon. The content leading up to it was extremely meh, however. 2 short solo instances and some Fed Ex quests. Not something that should have taken two months to develop.

People who are enjoying themselves in-game are likely to stay in-game and help others enjoy themselves too.

People who are enjoying themselves so little that they exit the game are likely to come to the forums to voice their dissatisfaction with whatever is bugging them.

Kind of. Those who enjoy the game are happy to spend their time playing. Those who don’t are happy to move on to something else they will enjoy. It’s the malcontents who come here and try to convince everyone else to be as miserable as they are.

Because the personal story is far too easy to justify a precursor as an award. A reward worth a few g, up to like 5 seems proper imo.

Even if they gave away precursors, you’ve still got plenty of work to do to earn the Gifts of Mastery and Fortune and the gold for Icy Runstones. It’s not like the precursor is the only thing standing between most players and a Legendary weapon.

I’ve got five characters at 80. Most of them I’m very happy with, though it did take me a while to learn to appreciate the Engineer’s rifle skill set.

But I would, without hesitation, put the replace my Guardian’s Shield of Absorption with the Warrior’s Shield Stance. I run the shield on my Guardian for aekittenetic purposes; otherwise I’d run the focus for my off-hand. I’m sure SoA has its uses (particularly in WvW), but I’m primarily a PvEer and find I rarely use it at all. Outside a few very rare circumstances it’s all but useless in PvE. And Shield Stance is a fantastic defensive skill against both melee and ranged attacks. That’s the one skill I’d steal, if I could.

There’s no better example than Collin in the Manifesto saying “In most games, you go out, and you have really fun tasks, occasionally, that you get to do, and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff” and people twisting that to mean “they said this game would have no grind.”

I HATE that getting a precursor is essentially another Gift of Fortune. You either have to be very lucky or very wealthy to get one. I’d love it if a quest or mission or scavenger hunt were implemented for precursors. Anything that changes obtaining one from a grind to an adventure gets my seal of approval.

The rng might very well be implemented because it’s simply more profitable or because Nexon forced it in, but here’s another reason we might be stuck with it. Because we’re allowed to convert gold to gems, there might simply be too many people with too much gold to make direct-buy skins a profitable venture for ANet. It’s possible the player-friendly currency conversion option has created the necessity for rng-boxes in the gem shop. Either way, I think rng is here to stay.

I’ve recently started theorycrafting a Mesmer build and noticed a lack of Boon Duration food. So I’m formally requesting Boon Duration food. I’ll again suggest adding fishing and fish/shellfish/sushi dishes to cover Boon Duration food because, well…I’m never not going to take an opportunity to suggest the addition of fishing.

Skill based content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Disclaimer: This is not a brag-post.

I played FFXI for six years. I was an excellent player with excellent gear and an excellent static party of linkshell mates. From running Chains of Promathia start to finish to low-manning Charby for a Joyeuse, there was no challenge we couldn’t overcome with skill. And we enjoyed the challenge of these types of difficult content (CoP 6-4 being the ultimate example).

But the vast majority of MMO players aren’t looking for simply aren’t interested in or capable of dealing with these types of challenges. And that creates a dilemma for the content designers. You can’t lock contend (like FFXI’s Sea) behind difficult content because you’ll be denying a huge section of your game to said content. And you (for the most part) can’t appease the challenge-seeking players by throwing out difficult content without making the rewards equally impressive.

That leaves the choice between making difficult content that very few players will appreciate or spending those resources elsewhere. And something to keep in mind with regards to challenge as it pertains to GW2 is this game doesn’t have many gear checks. This means all challenge would simply be a test of skill, and some players are far more skilled than others.

I do miss the challenges of FFXI and I do think GW2 is far too easy, but I understand why ANet set the bar so low with regards to challenge. I’m still able to enjoy the game despite it’s easy difficulty, but I fully understand where some players would be left wanting to test themselves. For better or for worse, the game is what it is. And video games in general, not just MMOs, have realized that easy content appeals to more people.

Sounds to me like a player problem. If people in full ‘zerker gear can’t stay on their feet they should probably think about investing in some +Toughness and/or +Vitality gear.

GW2 : crafting feedback

I have five character with an exotic weapon and full exotic armor, each I crafted myself. I checked the prices of crafting vs buying from the Trading Post. I don’t remember how much gold I saved per item, but it was at least two. So a conservative estimate says I saved at least 70 gold. 70 gold in my pocket says to me crafting is not useless.

And that doesn’t even account for all the gold I’ve made crafting and selling items for a profit. So I’m going to have to disagree with you. I’m not saying it’s perfect; I think giving every character access to all eight crafting disciplines was a mistake. But even with its flaws, crafting is far from useless.

Problems with Engineers and Legendaries

in Engineer

Posted by: darkace.8925

There are two counter arguments to your point. First; people are leaving because certain problems are not being fixed

You’re right about that. Lingering bugs, balance issues, etc, can all result in players hanging it up. But you’re also moving the goal post. This thread is about Legendary kits for engineers. I’ll wager the number of players who have left the game because they couldn’t show off their Legendary while using a Grenade Kit is quite small.

Your hangup is just that. Remember that development resources are finite. And remember that the Engineer is just one of eight professions. And remember that only a small fraction of players have Legendary weapons. Then think of all the people who are drawn to new content and new cosmetic items.

I’m not saying you’re wrong for wanting what you want, but I’m saying logically it’s just not going to be the highest priority for the development team. If the issue isn’t a high priority, then it might take a while to get what you want. And if it’s going to take a while to get what you want, then you’re just going to have to be patient and wait. Brow-beating the developers isn’t going to expedite anything.

My comment wasn’t so much about the timeframe of desired content as it was the disingenuous statement. Obviously there is a fairly large team working tirelessly on completely unnecessary cosmetic additions to the game rather than new features and fixes, and given the rate of cosmetic additions of late I’d say more man-hours and expense has been applied to said cosmetic additions. I’m not complaining, I’m just curious why Collin felt the need to obscure this fact.

So in one post you’ve called the lead developer disingenuous AND decided for everyone that your Legendary kits that affect very, very few players are more important than cosmetic additions that can be enjoyed by everyone?

The need to farm has put players in direct competition with each other’s goals.

This is so true, I decided to go back to Orr on my main, yes it was tumbleweed heavy but when I saw an event on my map I thought surely ther’ll be others doing that. Went over and ‘Joy!’ there were other players. I started contributing to the event and for my trouble was told in no uncertain terms by all others there to get lost. Seems they just wanted to farm the infinite spawns or something, how pathetic. I did actually leave because there were enough of them to possibly report me for made up things

That’s very unfortunate to have happened to you, and very pathetic of them. If you’re ever worried about being reported in a situation like this, simply say in chat (since chat logs are often reviewed in situations like this) in no uncertain terms “I’m well within my right to attempt to complete this dynamic event.”

Then the interlude blew chunks. Any way you want to slice it, call it interlude, call it end, call it epilogue, call it lemon sherbert, it left a lot to be desired.

But feel free to keep telling Anet it was great, maybe we can get more compelling parts to the living story just like it in this episode.

It didn’t say it was great. I didn’t say it was bad. It was what it was.

I don’t know exactly what you wanted for an interlude that closes one chapter of a story before another is opened? Did you want Blue Angels to fly overhead, doing aerial-acrobatics to the guitar riffs from Crazy Train? Did you want a lazy and fireworks show while Santa passed by on his float throwing out precursors and candy? Did you want Zhaitan to rise from the dead and attack Lion’s Arch so the heroes of Tyria could rally once more to overthrow evil?

You got a climax with the dungeon. You got an ending to the story with the cut scenes in Hoelbrak and the Black Citadel. What more was needed? A better question is in what way did the bonfire take away from the aforementioned climax and resolution?

Unfortunately, I can’t disagree. I wish I could, but I can’t.

3000 toughness feels pretty tanky to me. Healers are hard to do, but tanks are still here.

I’m not disappointed in the lack of a “holy trinity”, I’m actually happy with that design choice. I’m disappointed in the lack of a depth to content that promotes anything beyond the aforementioned “unholy unity”.

Sure, we’ve got Damage, Control, and Support. But most content is designed in a way where the only thing needed is Damage, Damage, and more Damage. Why would anyone take a Control-spec’d engineer or a Support-spec’d ranger when two more Damage-spec’d warriors will get the job done more effectively?

Note: none of the above is referring to PvP.

The Mass Effect 3 ending is exactly my point, thanks for catching on.

Throughout the game you take part in one battle after another, each more heroic than the last, you lose friends and squadmates (poor Mordin..sob) along the way, resolve conflicts, overcome challenges, have a final drink on top of the Citadel.

The climax can happen at different times for different people, the overall climax gameplay wise though was the battle to get to the Citadel. But this indeed was not the end, in the same way that the Molten Weapons Facility was not the end of F&F. The end was for F&F was the bonfire, where you should be catching up with your friends, celebrating your victories, and feeling good about yourself overall.

Instead….you click a bonfire. In ME3 you click a color.

Both left me wondering wtf?

Edit: Yes, I know the story isn’t over. Still lame for a chapter end imo. Hope it’s better next time.

Here’s where I feel you’re going wrong. You’re disappointed the “ending” was a bonfire. The “ending” was actually the Molten Facility and boss fight. The stuff with Rox and Braun that happened after that was “epilogue”. The bonfire part neither, it was “interlude”. It was just a brief “between chapters” thing that happened to give out a buff and an achievement. Or at least that’s how I looked at things.
