I am not sure why a large off-topic discussion is warranted here…
There aren’t enough things that people enjoyed in GW1 placed in GW2 (properly or at all).
ANet claimed the opposite in their manifesto than what has been implemented.
GW2 is not WoW. But it is nothing like the predecessor (which it should be). The latter of the two statements is what matters. I don’t care what game GW2 is similar to, the point is it isn’t relatively similar to the game it should be similar to.ANet won’t fix the above, nor will they admit that they let the fans down or admit that they made a huge mistake.
TL:DR – Waiting for the next GW1 similar MMO, MMORPG, and CORPG to fill the void in the market.
According to who? You? I, for one, wouldn’t play Guild Wars 2 if it were like its predecessor. What you call a mistake, I call a sound decision. And guess what? My opinion on the subject carries as much authority as yours.
Yes, I’m afraid of new updates, but for entirely different reasons to you.
I don’t like the rng boxes, but I’m not going to let their existence ruin my ability to enjoy this game. The reason I approach each update with trepidation is because of the **** storm of irrationality that hits these forums every time something is tweaked. The slightest re-balancing always garners cries of “you broke my class” or “it’s like you don’t even want us to play this game”. That kind of overreacting hysteria always – ALWAYS – hits after balance patches, and for five or so days it makes the forums an insufferable place.
The malcontents that wail on these forums aren’t going anywhere. They’re too miserable to find joy in Guild Wars 2, but they’re also too miserable to find joy in other games. So they spend their time here complaining, often distorting reality just so they have something to complain about.
Oft-requested, never addressed. I support these ideas, but I’ve long since stopped holding my breath.
I’m not talking about hidden information. Anyone who didn’t know dynamic events ping ponged back and forth before the game launched simply wasn’t playing attention. Anyone who didn’t understand the personal story would focus people into the same place probably wasn’t paying attention either.
With today’s generation of gamers I imagine “written information” and “hidden information” are probably synonymous with most people. ArenaNet posted a series of detailed, readily available blogs that thoroughly described what the game was going to be. Outside the addition of Ascended gear and the overabundance of rng chests, anyone who is upset because Guild Wars 2 isn’t what they expected simply didn’t do their homework. But I’m sure that, as with most everything else that goes wrong, is someone else’s fault. Why take blame for not researching a game when you can just point the finger at someone else?
srsly?
- gear as core progression mechanic
- mainly auto-attack-based, auto-aimed combat
- skinner-box-oriented retention strategy (you would know them as dailies)
- GW2 hearts == WOW quests
- GW2 traits == WOW talents
i could go on but that’s already most of the game…
Please do. By all means. Go on.
– no subscription fee vs subscription fee
– self-sufficiency system vs tank/healer/dps party system
– active dodging in combat vs standing still while rotating attacking
– players upped to level cap for PvP vs not
– everyone gets their own loot vs everyone rolls/competes for loot
– everyone can freely tag mobs vs first one to hit mob gets claim
– no raids vs raids
– no mounts vs mounts
– regularly updated content vs waiting months for content patches
I could go on, but at this point I’m just going to write your ignorant statement off as trolling, because anyone who knows anything about Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft knows they’re about as different as two games can be while still being in the same genre.
Are the things just added today available until this chapter of the LS closes? Or do we have to do each the day the guide says they’re available? Thanks.
You seem to be combining two different discussions.
You ask “So what does it take to be good at this game?”
1. Skill
But the subject of your post seems to be about precursors. In that regard, the answer is: 2, 3, or a combination of both.
yea dailies feel like a dam job
Then I’d suggest the problem lies with the way you look at video games, not with dailies.
You want raid groups. There’s a difference between “want” and “need”.
…GW1’s Magic: The Gathering.
This is a more apt analogy than you realize. There were a bunch of terrible decks, and there were a few really good ones that everyone and their dog copied.
I was going to make a post about how spoiled gamers are these days and how sorry I feel for the developers who have to put up with them, but I’ll just shake my head and move on instead.
So, why do we have 80 levels to grind through until we hit Orr?
1. If Orr is the only part of PvE you find fun, then you’ve got such a narrow idea of fun that I’d call you unreasonable.
2. You’re given experience for virtually every thing you do in this game. If you consider leveling to 80 in this game a grind then I’d suggest to you that MMORPGs just aren’t your cup of tea.
100,000 of this, 10,000 of that. I thought ArenaNet was trying to re-shape MMOs when it said they didn’t want players to Grind?
Colin Johanson, Guild Wars 2 lead content developer, says in the video above, “We just don’t want players to grind.” Mike O’Brien, the executive producer of GW2 and also the president of ArenaNet, in the April 27th, 2010, Guild Wars 2 Design Manifesto, said, “GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs… and force you onto a grinding treadmill…”
I dunno, just found that interesting.
You took that quote out of context. And because you didn’t include the full quote, I’m guessing you did so on purpose. He didn’t say “we just don’t want players to grind.” He said “we just don’t want players to grind to get to the fun stuff.” There’s a HUGE difference between the two.
Heyo,
I’m kinda dissapointed to see how GW2 turned out. Why? Because they told everyone they would make the next level mmo. Instead they copied WoW.
Literally stopped reading right there.
At this point in time I highly doubt we’ll ever see the Crystal Desert. GW2 is being developed in a completely different direction. They have no reason to revisit old areas including Cantha and Elona. If they did open up the Crystal Desert, I’m sure it wouldn’t look anything like what we remember. So it’d just be a disappointment.
Such melodrama.
I won’t play a Mesmer because it’s not a Mesmer. This butterfly-wielding, clone-creating Illusionist disguised as a Mesmer isn’t a Mesmer.
Anyone see that second pic and think of a modernized Cantha?
Spear #3. It’s all you need.
First of all I do not believe in gambling of any kind in real life or otherwise
You’re gambling every time you salvage a rare/exotic in hopes of getting a glob of ectoplasm.
Dear AreanNet.
1. Add feathers as a rare material.
2. Have harpies, hippogriffs, raptors, and eventually tengu drop freathers.
3. Have feathers be used to created Sentinel’s inscriptions and insignia.
Unless someone is really bad at managing their inventory, I don’t see why anyone would not use the automatic aoe loot.
oh hoooooo, wow im daft. My mistake!
You got me worked up, there. lol
You’re looking at the wrong Pizza. Rare is 40%. Super is 36%. Fancy is 28%
Oh, false alarm then.
/whew
Was it? That’s…not cool. That food was the staple in my Necromancer build…
I noticed it’s still a tab in the achievements section. I’ve cleared all but the crab toss achievements, but I’m wondering if my brother will still be able to get the backpieces. Thanks.
While you’re farming the wood, farm the orichalcum, sell it and buy more wood.
Where’s the problem?
I need a Gift of Metal in addition to a Gift of Wood. That’s the problem. Well, that and the hundreds and hundreds of each T6 mat I still need…
We are aware of issues with WvW on some NA worlds, we are looking into it.
Wait, just “some”? Does this mean some servers are locked out while their opponents are ravaging their borderlands?
So more added content most of us will never ever see, let alone get to use…
I’m presuming you’re speaking specifically to the weapon skins. Because there’s nothing stopping you from seeing the rest of the Dragon Bash content.
Seriously? WVW down at prime time?
It’s always prime time somewhere. I’m sure they’d have avoided it if they could have, though.
It’s because they took out all the great parts of Guildwars 1, the dual classes, loads of skills and skill captures, the story, meaningful PvP all of it, the Longevity of GW1 doesn’t exist in GW2…
As a GW vet I feel the need to inform you I don’t miss the dual classes or the loads of skills and that I didn’t find the story very interesting. I’d also like to know how my Texans are going to do this year, since you seem to have the powers of divination. How else would you know what GW2’s longevity is?
As a GW vet I also feel the need to tell you I think the persistent world, the additional axis and the jumping puzzles it allows, and WvW are all brilliant improvements to the original. I tell you these things not because I think you’re wrong and I’m right, but to illustrate that your opinions are not universally shared.
What do you think would happen when something big like the whole Flame Legion army attacked capital cities? Which one would survive?
Hoelbrak, The Grove and Divinity’s Reach seem to have no defence at all. Black Citadel has turrets and snipers everywhere, not to mention tanks (kitten I wish we could see their true power in action). Rata Sum probably has many tricks to deal with the enemy so the asura seems to be safe.
Divinity’s Reach has no defense? Umm… you’ve seen those walls surrounding the city, right?
Did you read the OP request at all? Only the last line had anything to do with it. If you were trying to make some other, off topic, comment you should have at least prefaced it with what you intended.
Not well enough, apparently. Apologies to all.
Rifle and pistol look a bit thick but we’ll see..they probably would look better in game.
I’m sure there are a lot of engineers who say of most rifle skins “looks a bit thin…”
I think Divinity Reach defenses got a little problem: Do you remember the vista at the giant hole in one of the districts? At this part the wall got a huge gap there.
Yeah, someone should fix that someday.
I can hear everyone’s brains ticking over all around the world.
lol
You’ve really lost the whole entire point haven’t you? THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO DO FOR PVE PLAYERS! Does endgame consist of standing around talking in map chat all day? Because that’s what you’re basically telling me.
I’m almost exclusively a PvEer and I get by just find doing the same things now I enjoyed about the game when I first started playing. If I didn’t enjoy those aspects then, I would have stopped playing a long time ago.
If the only thing left for you in the game is to grind and if you don’t enjoy grinding then you’d be much better off taking a break from the game until something that interests you is implemented in a future content update/expansion.
I started playing GW2 because I thought the whole point of this game was not to force the player to grind like so many other MMOs do. And yet as soon as you get to endgame, the only endgame options that are really there is to grind.
- FOTM= Grind!
- You want that dungeon armor set? Grind the hell out of that dungeon until you end up venomously hating dungeons!
- Want that awesome weapon skin from the event?! Well first you have a 0.004% chance to get the crate, and then you have another 0.004% chance to get a weapon skin ticket in that crate. Basically, more grind!
ANet, you’ve created an endless cycle of grind for endgame, and you lied to everyone who bought your game. I love GW2 but it has in no way delivered on it’s promises.
Because everything you listed is a cosmetic upgrade, and because cosmetic upgrades aren’t required to play the game, you’re not being required to grind anything. The only thing you’ve got a legitimate complaint on is Fractals, but that was designed specifically for grinders. Complaining about grinding in Fractals is like going to a strip club to complain about nudity.
What I think it will be: a heavy armor conglomerate of the GW’s dervish, ritualist, and the unused remnants of the paragon class.
What I want: a bard/minstrel excelling at group buffs.
They all look pretty good, but the axe, longbow, shield and staff are particularly nice. Thanks for the link.
Irrelevant. Claiming you (think you) and an imaginary “lot of other players” would like a feature is meaningless; you could say the same for every other bad suggestion here.
The argument about fishing being a good time sink is equally irrelevant; there are thousands of ways to add more time sinks to the game other than fishing (and most of them suck, too).
That some people actually want fishing shows how fooled they have been by MMO developers, who love deceiving players into thinking that mindless, grind-based time sinks are a good thing. This model was designed for pay to play games (in which it basically equals free money for the developers…), but MMO players ate the lie so completely that they ask for it even in buy to play games.
lol, okay.
Guild Wars 2 needs some longer quest type content. The personal story is too fragmented and the dynamic events are too immediate. It needs epic quest lines, possibly linked to the orders.
I know they take time to make, but I think they’d really benefit the game, because it’s that longer type of content that’s really missing.
I don’t disagree with you in principle, but I don’t know if such a thing would really be worthwhile from Anet’s point of view. Such a quest would no doubt be blasted through at breakneck pace by many. The quest would take infinitely longer to design than to complete, and that’s just not a good return on investment for Anet. Now if such a quest were added alongside other content, say in a full-fledged expansion, then I think it would be much more successful.
Have these places drop skins that arnt easily attainable so every chump can run around with them, make them only for the dedicated few…
By “dedicated few” I presume you mean “those lucky enough to win an absurdly low rng roll or those willing to grind endlessly until they do so”? If so, I hope the devs don’t give you what you want.
Not everyone turns to the Trading Post for the materials they need. For those of us who farm our mats, the discrepancy in nodes adds up.
Convert it to gold to be used for Legendary weapons.
This.
Well, that’ll get you half way there… maybe.
Assuming we’re eventually going to get precursors from some kind of quest/scavenger hunt, that much gold would go a long way towards easing the pain of farming 250 of each T6 mat. The rest of the stuff is obtainable in a time-consuming but fairly painless manner.
That would be a city of the Tengu. It’s likely their home city should they ever become a playable race, because they’re conveniently situated next to a 1-15 zone.
I would hope there’s room in that enclosure for a city and at least one uniquely-tengu explorable zone. The Maguuma Jungle region currently has fewer zones than any other region (not counting Orr), and there’s a level gap in Maguuma’s zones ranging from 25 to 55.
I find it annoying that there are more orichalcum nodes in the game than ancient/Orrian saplings. My annoyance is compounded by the fact that two orichalcum ore makes one orichaclum ingot while it takes three ancient logs to make a single plank of ancient lumber.
I’m not sure what it is you’re suggesting. The first part of your post implies you’d like all drops, PvE and WvW, to be in loot bags that appear at our feet after kills. The last part of your post indicates you’d like some form of way for loot bags to be placed directly in your inventory to avoid losing drops when killed during zerg vs zerg fights.
Convert it to gold to be used for Legendary weapons.
i’m more irritated by the fact i’m using a barret light 50 as a SPAS-12. why is the only legendary rifle most(only) suited for warrior? i haven’t even begun to farm for a legendary because of this. if i wanted to snipe i’d make a warrior. i wanted a shotgun, so i made an engineer.
It’s a 50 cal sniper rifle fired from the hip like a shotgun but that doesn’t bother me near as much as it sounding like a laser rifle when it’s fired.
