Daily Reward for Canachs Lair

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: darkace.8925

Really, it’s no way near 10 gold hour, you have to make a character, complete the first mission, use “go to heart of the mist” tab, go to southsun cove, walk all your way to canach lair (you don’t have any waypoint whit a new char), complete the dungeon, return to LA or go to the bank at the ship to deposit your 1 gold, delete and start again, it’s not 6 min, all this takes 15-20 min. Faming cof it’s much much more faster, try yourself.

Even if every word you say it true, I still wouldn’t do it. I don’t see how anyone can pretend recycling new characters through the Canach fight is anything other than an exploit.

solo pve staff build ?

in Elementalist

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

I ran a full glass cannon staff Elementalist from 7-ish to 80. Things were a bit tougher in the middle levels, before the traits all came together and Power/Precision/Critical Damage gear became available. But after that soloing PvE became a cakewalk.

Here’s my thoughts on soloing as a staff Elementalist. When more than minimal effort is required to kill an enemy (i.e veterans, skill challenges, large packs of trash mobs), I start the fight with Meteor Shower. The instant an enemy is struck and aggro is established I pop Flame Burst and start the following rotation:
Water Attunement
– Frozen Ground
– Ice Spike
Earth Attunement
– Eruption
– Unsteady Ground
– Eruption (against veterans and other individual enemies)
Air Attunement
– Lightning Surge
– Static Field (against a group of enemies)
– Gust (against veterans and other individual enemies)
Fire Attunement
– Flame Burst
– Lava Font (if the enemy has managed to close to melee-ish range)
– Arcane Wave (good damage and a self-combo for Might)
– Burning Retreat (if anything is still standing with more than a sliver of health)
– Repeat as necessary (it rarely is)

The Chill and Cripple from Frozen Ground and Unsteady Ground keep enemies at bay, while the damage from Ice Spike, Eruption, Lightning Surge, Lava Font, and the Burning from Flame Burst make short work of whatever is in your spells’ area of effect.

At any point in this rotation I can pop Glyph of Storms. I usually use GoS in Water Attunement for the extra Chill when fighting a group of enemies and in Fire or Air for the extra damage when fighting a tougher individual enemy. GoS can help against packs of enemies who stay at range and attack with ranged attacks, while Magnetic Aura works against individual enemies who do the same

I run the Glyph of Elementals, but I only ever pop it against veterans or skill challenges (always as an Earth Elemental) when playing solo.

As far as traits go, I went with:
Fire – 30
– Ember’s Might
– Internal Fire
– Pyromancer’s Puissance

Air – 20
– Quick Glyphs
– Bolt to the Heart

Arcane – 20
– Elemental Attunement
– Blasting Staff

As for self combos, I just don’t see the point in wasting the effort. Your staff is a ranged weapon. The combo fields are attacks that should be near your enemies, not yourself. And you shouldn’t engage your enemies from anything but maximum range. Might from a Fire Blast has its uses (as does Swiftness from a Lightning Blast when roaming), but Frost Aura only matters if you’re being hit. And if you play your cards right, enemies will rarely get the opportunity to hit you.

I owe a great deal of my 30/50 Hall of Monuments score to feathers. In Guild Wars I farmed these things more than I wanted to, and they funded virtually all of my HoM. And now we’ve got an actual crafting system, and no feathers. It just doesn’t seem…complete…without them.

I propose adding Feathers as a fine crafting material. Harpies, griffons, raptors, and moas jump out as obvious candidates to drop them. They could be used to make Sentinel inscriptions and insignias, new potions if/when new enemies are added to the game, and a host of other possibilities (stuffing for beds/chairs if Furniture crafting is added if/when we’re ever given player housing, for example).

difficulty dilemma

People say they want challenging content, but by percentage, most people want challenging content that gives them better loot than any other area of the game.

This is true, and it’s also the launching point for another problem. Unless all eight professions are perfectly balanced for PvE (an impossibility) then some players, regardless of skill, might be shunned by those wanting to run the more difficult content based solely on their character’s profession.

darkace.8925

I’ve always built my characters like Guild Wars 2 was a dungeon crawler. That is, all of my characters are built with two primary functions in mind: kill stuff, and don’t die. Each character is built to fit a different play style, but all are built as if I were the only player in the game. With the mechanics of the game being what they are, I feel that’s just the best way to approach character builds.

I’ve no doubt some of you want to or enjoy playing support characters, though. I’m primarily a PvEer, so things like +Healing and +Boon Duration gear just don’t have the impact they might in PvP or WvW. I particularly see how important crowd control, a specialized type of support, can be valuable in PvP and WvW; but for the purposes of this conversation I’m talking more about healing and boons than I am crowd control.

So I’m wondering how many of you willingly sacrifice your ability to deal and withstand damage so that you can better support other players with heals, boons, and crowd control? By whatever measure you deem it worthwhile to play support, does the game allow you to achieve that mark? If not, how would you change things to make support a more worthwhile endeavor?

PS – This is not a call for return of healing classes or the Holy Trinity, so please try to keep the discussion relevant to Guild Wars 2’s current design philosophy. Thanks.

I wanted to quote these two lines right here, because they go together so well.

Tell me, if a group of people was beating on you, and you had to decide who to take down first, who would you go for? The guy that’s doing the least damage, but will be the hardest to take out of the fight? No, you’d go for the guy kicking your face in, and sporting a glass jaw.

Mobs should target high power first, not high toughness. No, this doesn’t fix much of anything in a group where everyone’s full ‘zerker, but it’s how I’d think things should work in general. Right?

I agree with you in principle, but without thread/aggro system wherein tanks can keep the mobs off the most vulnerable party members, your proposal wouldn’t do much. The guy who invested in Toughness/Vitality gear wouldn’t get to use it because he’d never be targeted and the masses who invested in Power/Precision gear wouldn’t get to use theirs because they’d be dead. It’s a lose/lose situation.

You might not be among them, but if you ever perused PvX, you should be aware that one of the most popular sections was the farming builds section. In a broad sense, almost everyone plays these games because of “farming” whether they’re farming for loot, prestige items, kitten, or jukittenn.

I’m not saying people didn’t farm in Guild Wars. I’m not even saying people didn’t enjoy farming in Guild Wars. But the popularity of PvX’s farming subsection isn’t any more proof that farming in Guild Wars was fun than the popularity of Pent/Shelt events or CoF speed runs is proof that farming in Guild Wars 2 is fun.

nah you don’t understand. THe point is ironically it is safer to kill faster with no defense gear.

That’s same as dungeon. Most of the time it is better to go all out berserker because if you don’t kill fast enough it doesn’t matter if you are in full soldier gear, you’ll still die.

A few of the dungeon event, for example burrow in AC, or mag bomb event, it is much safer to go all out berserker. Infact most of my dungeon failure is because people don’t have enough dps.

I think the best idea is just have 2 differnet set for pve. One offensive set and one deffensive set. I still use defensive set for some situation. But most of the time I go berserker.

So, you’re trying to make a point that you got one of the easiest legendaries in the game? Then your point becomes that much weaker.

If you tried telling us that you acquired The Dreamer, Twilight, Incinerator, or Bolt…one of the legendaries where the buyout on the TP is 500-600+, then thats a different story and Id call BS on you not farming it(or being one of the few lucky ones).

So sure I can go and buy three or four aquatic precursors if I truely wanted. But not many people place high value on them. So when you come here and justify your point of “I dont grind” with the fact that you acquired the easiest legendary in the game, I consider your words very light and without weight. Yes, the gifts might have taken sometime but like you said you can play the game at your pace for those.

Lots of people farm certain events for T6 drops.

Then people farm the chest events for rares for ectos AND precursors.

Its the farm and the grind for the precursor and the ecto requirement that people are finding most tedious.
You bought yours for a mere 22 gold. Big whoop.

If I went to the TP now, bought my aquatic precursor for under 50g..I would have my legendary in a month or so.

You’re missing the point. He’s not saying “I got a Legendary, so can you.” He’s saying “I enjoyed the game without grinding for a Legendary, so can you.” If the only thing standing between you and the ability to enjoy this game is owning a Legendary, then ownership of a Legendary isn’t going to change much for you.

Stop nerfing farming since it’s a player choice, farmers will just find the next best thing.

I suspect the problem isn’t farming, it’s gold-to-gem conversion. If there were no conversion, and the only thing impacted by endless farming was the in-game economy, I doubt we’d see so many nerfs to popular/efficient farming spots. But because of the conversion, ArenaNet’s revenue are also impacted by a player’s ability to quickly accrue gold. And so they’ve got a financial incentive to inhibit our ability to accumulate currency.

I’m not a hardcore farmer; I spend probably 30 minutes or so a week farming Orr for T6 materials should the day ever come I decide to go for a Legendary weapon. But I can certainly see where those of you who do it hours a day, day after day, would be perturbed at the constant nerfs to farming spots. But do keep in mind it’s probably a bit of a necessary evil because they implemented the player-friendly currency exchange. To what degree it’s necessary is certainly up for debate, but I suspect the reasonably-minded among us do recognize it is necessary.

Where to…

[/snip]

TC’s post is so far of base that I’m not even going to bother with addressing each of the points individually. I’ll simply say that most of the points raised in your thread are objectively baseless.

People can keep pretending like we have many pve options out there but we don’t. Dungeons, Fractals, Map completions, Story and World boss every 2-3 hours. That’s it for pve. Not many people farm events and the ones that we do, Arena net tends to shut them down in some way or tamper with the loot.

I am starting to think they don’t want a Pve community. Pve content is suffering, but I honestly think they care more for WvW.

PvE content includes: dungeons, Fractals, map completion, personal story, world bosses, crafting, farming, mini-games, achievements, jumping puzzles, socializing with the community… “That’s it for PvE”? What more do you want?

The game is fun from a general sense, but we get zero rewards for having fun.

I don’t get it. Isn’t fun the reward itself?

Not only is fun itself the reward, it’s the ENTIRE point of video games. Well said on your part, but I feel it will be lost on the malcontents that plague this board.

Don’t feel bad. Even while playing a lot you most likely won’t see a legendary. I have about 1,500 hours in the game and have never gotten an exotic drop that wasn’t from an event chest (Mad King’s Slippers).

Unless you’re the type to sit around LA chit-chatting in /map all day long then I this is very hard to believe.

The odds of logging 1,500 hours of play time without looting an exotic item are so statistically improbable they’re virtually nil. And completion of higher level zones rewards players with guaranteed exotic items. Finally, you can obtain exotic items with karma with just a minimal amount of effort on your part.

If you’ve ever only obtained one exotic item in 1,500 hours of play time then you have no one to blame but yourself.

I lost my desire for fun when all of the fun things were crowded by campers and farmers. I am talking about bossing.

That’s a “state of mind” problem, not a “design problem”.

I’ll probably never get a legendary, but I don’t really care. They’re just vanity items.

Here is an actual “casual”. Someone who enjoys the game in spite of the fact that he doesn’t have the “look at me” items. I both applaud and share your approach, sir/madam.

A guild that doesn’t help you right away isn’t a bad guild, and a big guild doesn’t have to be a good guild; or not a good guild for you personally.
I’d say give it another go

I just hope it’s not too easy to obtain. There’s not a whole lot of skill required in this game, so the only real way is to make it a time grind. It should take months at the very least.

There is no correlation between “difficult” and “time consuming”. The Mad King’s Tower jumping puzzle only took a few minutes and was incredible difficult. Getting 250 of each T6 material for the Gift of Might and Gift of Magic requires almost no skill at all but takes weeks or months to achieve.

Everything else is farming anywhere you want to buy the t6, lodestones, ectos, and precursor. Why shouldn’t at least one more of those encourage more actual game play instead of farming?

Don’t forget the 100 gold for Icy Runestones and 20 gold for crafting recipes.

The areas of play left out in current Legendary quest are sPvP and JP’s. These need a portion in the quest somewhere.

Depending on whether or not you consider dungeons as personal story (I don’t, the story in dungeons is Destiny’s Edge’s), then story is also an aspect of the game not included in the quest for a Legendary weapon.
