It depends on what you mean by “more effectively”. The shield, for example, is a personal defense weapon for the warrior and more of a group support weapon for the guardian.

2hand weapons, 2 sigils.... just saying

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

A great sword deals 995-1,100 in damage. A sword deals 905-1000 damage.

A two handed weapon already deals 10% more than a one handed weapon. That’s like two sigils of force.

Okay, now take into account two sigils vs one. Where a two-handed weapon user must choose between the extra damage of a Sigil of Force or the extra damage on crit from a Sigil of Air, a duel-wielder can have both.

Just farm in different areas. Surely it’s not that hard. If you farm in Orr, then farm in Southsun Cove, then farm in Forstgorge sound, you won’t end up hitting DR.

I don’t spend a lot of my game time farming, but if I did I wouldn’t accept “stop farming the most efficient farming spots and move to a less efficient spot when DR kicks in” as a very player-friendly solution. I understand DR was implemented to keep gold farmers (and possibly “no-lifers”) in check, but I believe there’s got to be a better way to go about things that doesn’t include as much collateral damage to everyone else.

From where I’m sitting, there are only two types of people who are genuinely hurt by the addition of speed bumps to popular/efficient farming methods: people who want Legendary weapons and people who want to buy everything from the Gem Shop with gold.

As someone who would like a Legendary weapon or five, I sympathize with those who find themselves X gold short of Y. But I also recognize that I can do literally everything in this game without a particle-effect producing weapon. So I’m somewhere between “that sucks” and “meh” when it comes to farming nerfs.

Or are they new?

I posted this about several pages back, but I think what we want to see of Cantha is less poverty stricken and more culturally accurate, like an Asian Divinity’s Reach; with falling petals, people travelling in and out of the city, playful children, shops, mansions, and the usual city hustles. Comapre:

Who is “we”? You certainly don’t speak for me. I, for one, feel the endless slums of Kaineng City were one of the defining features of Cantha.

And what does “more culturally accurate” mean? Cantha is a fictitious nation; its culture is exactly what its creators wanted it to be and, accordingly, its culture is as accurate as it can possibly be.

  • Guild Halls – removed, until further notice. We have heard from the staff themselves that they have no intentions of working on them.
  • Epic end game stories and expansions removed.
  • No promise of new playable races or classes.
*Denying new areas until ‘PVP’ is perfected.
  • Removing important cultural aspects of GW from the game to create a more ‘unified’ and ‘Culturally sensitive’ community.
  • Lore updated so slowly.

How does the lack of any of these…
A) discriminate against anyone?
B) prevent roleplayers from roleplaying?

What New Profession would you design?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

Personally, I’d love to see some kind of elementalist/knight class. Heavy armor, and uses elemental magic to charge their weapons in battle. Basically, an elementalist that wears heavy armor and works in melee range (and maybe uses a bow or rifle at times).

The way I see it, and I don’t know any more than the next guy, is they’re not going to double up on themes. I’d be very surprised if they added a second profession that utilized elemental (elementalist), divine (guardian), arcane (mesmer), or dark (necromancer) magic. They can still add new magic users, but I suspect it will be unique.

So to fill your desire for a heavily armored spell caster, and to appease those who long for their ritualists and dervishes, what if they added a soldier profession combining the combat mechanics of the dervish and the spirit magic theme of the ritualist?

Tell me – did you have a hard time figuring out what Power, Precision, Toughness, and Vitality do? Was it a terrible, frustrating chore?

The reasons for leaving it as is outweigh the reasons for changing it back. It’s an unnecessary change that adds little to nothing to the game. As is, it’s objectively logical. The old way, it was subjectively “cool”. There’s no reason to make the change.

Do engineers have good DPS without using kits?
So that i can use my weapon skills and the rest for healing turret and elixers?

I’m not expert, but my engineer has an exotic rifle and full exotic knight’s armor. Because the #1 skill on the rifle fires slowly and because their rifle’s hardest hitters work better at close range, I’m not sure I’d recommend it for someone strictly wanting ranged dps. The damage is there – and it’s not at all bad damage – but you gotta stick your nose in there to get the most out of it.

I can’t speak for the engineer’s damage capacity with pistols, though; so you’ll have to ask someone else on that matter.

conditionmancer + focus = ???

in Necromancer

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

Thanks for the feedback, guys; and please keep it coming.

I’ve seen mention Focus is better with Power. Truth be told, I’ve always intend to run a healthy dose of Power in spite of being a conditionmancer. Condition Damage and Condition Duration will still be my primary focus, and Precision might get some love too, depending on my choice of Sigils. But the reason for the Power is many mobs in open-world PvE simply don’t have the staying power to justify the effort required to set up the dots.

I’m not sure this is a good idea, but it’s something I’ve had in mind since I first started theorycrafting. Feel free to let me know how, if at all, this changes your stance on the dagger vs focus. And thanks.

New non-cash shop armor sets? When?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

so theres this thing….called gold…that you acquire in game through playing….that you can trade for gems….to get those items in the gem store

everything i have gotten in the gem store…i got through playing the game how i want to play it….and traded gold for gems….i haven’t spent a single dollar

That’s all well and good, but there’s two things you should consider. If new armor is added to the Gem Shop in the form of “randomly acquired from Black Lion Chests”, then that’s not the same as “new armor has been added to the Gem Shop.”

Second, some people want to earn their new armor. Vabbi armor in Guild Wars, for example, took considerable effort to earn. It presented many players with a challenge/goal to work for. Plopping down a credit card or dumping a bunch of gold isn’t quite the same. To put it another way, “T-Rex doesn’t want to be fed. He wants to hunt.”

conditionmancer + focus = ???

in Necromancer

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

I’m still in the planning stages of making a necromancer, but I’m wondering how bad I’d be gimping myself going S/F over S/D. On paper the dagger looks better for a condition build, but for aesthetic reasons I’d rather run a focus. I’m primarily an open-world PvEer, so I can afford to sacrifice a bit of optimization and still get by. But there’s a line where less-optimized becomes self-defeating, and I’d like to know if S/F lies on the wrong side of that line.

And while I’m asking for tips from the pros, I’d really like to run CPC. But I’m already planning BiP and Epidemic. That leaves just the one slot, and I’m thinking it will probably go to a signet. What do you guys think of CPC, particularly in the open-world PvE context?

Thanks for any wisdom you guys can impart on this novice.

In large group events, there’s usually so many spell-effects firing off it’s virtually impossible to see what’s going on (and thus be able to time your skills/dodges). In times like this, even my melee-oriented characters switch to a ranged weapon. You don’t have to build around the ranged weapon since you’re essentially just “farming” events when they get this big.
