There’s a mace that looks like a wrench and Engineers can’t even equip it. That seems almost criminal.
I wish. Even as the downed player, knowing help is on the way would be a boon.
That’s who this suggestion is for, the downed player. The would-be medic loses a few seconds of his/her time if the downed player Way Points; no big deal. The downed player who Way Points with help right around the corner loses a bit of coin and the time it takes them to run back to their desired location.
People should realise that you cannot have expansions a few months after the game has been released.
I don’t get it, either. People log inordinate hours blasting through content at breakneck speed and then sound both genuinely surprised when they find themselves burned out and genuinely disappointed to learn expansions aren’t usually released within 12 months of an MMOs launch.
I played an hour a two a day, a few days a week, and I got bored after about a month. Only reason I even visit the forums every now and again is to check if anything new is getting released because I am hoping to at least get my moneys worth of play time out of this game.
Micro: This game may not be your cup of tea.
Macro: Playing ANY game exhaustively will lead to burnout.

If I was given one gold every time I was on my way to a downed player marked on my mini-map who Way Pointed before I reached him, I’d have more than enough to afford the Tier 3 armor I’ve been eyeballing. A system allowing us to clicked a downed player icon on our mini-maps to alert the downed player help is incoming would be very handy.

If any of you are tracking it, I’m curious what the value of Ectos was at at the time of this thread being created and what they’re at now.
You chefs ready for a competition? I’m going to name a secret ingredient. This ingredient is not currently featured in the game. You must combine this ingredient with between two and four other existing ingredients to create a new dish. You can submit three dishes. If this garners any interest, I’ll declare a winner for tastiest sounding dish sometime Sunday or Monday then reveal the next secret ingredient.
Today’s secret ingredient is: Slab of White Meat
Sample Entry
Grilled Pork Chop
– Slab of White Meat
– Pile of Salt and Pepper
Dolphins, rays, and seals are the only pets I feel the game is missing. Every other pet would be a “neat, but not needed” addition.
The same thing she did as a mortal…nothing.
I sure hope not. Imagine all the X/Thieves running around; the game would have to be renamed Stealth Wars 2.
We’ve got Eggs, Cinnamon and Sugar, and Bread. Why can’t we make French Toast?
cuz you didn’t mention milk. how can you make french toast with out milk ><
He also forgot the syrup. And sugar =/= powdered sugar. His/her french toast isn’t going to be very good.
How about some simple bacon. Lots of pigs running around.
Raspberry-pepper glazed pork chops, mmmm….
Seriously, what’s the purpose of the junk items other than to take up bag space?
Immersion. It doesn’t make sense for a grub worm or a beetle to carry around money, but it does make sense for the goo harvested from a grub worm or a beetle to fetch a few copper at market. I personally like that mobs drop junk items instead of money.
Elonians in the game, and the Ossan Quarter is not hiding anything
I guess there aren’t enough African and Middle Eastern players who give a crap if their architectural styles are mixed.
Hope its gone forever. Asian themed expansions are the worst. Nothing but ugly buildings and tons of really bad voice acting to match the budget martial arts movie feeling of the entire thing.
If you’d actually played Factions, or spent even a little time researching it, you’d know that much of the expansion lacked “Asian themed” ugly buildings. Kaineng was a massive wooden slum, Eschovald had Gothic-esque architecture, and the Jade Sea had a Polynesian feel. Only the emporer’s palace and Shing Jea Island featured much stereotypical Asian architecture (pagodas, etc).
They could always create new capitals. The empire is united under one leader now, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still hidden factions within it’s boarders. Maybe they’d have a hidden base that would be a bit more cosmopolitan, housing refugee Tengu, or perhaps even Krytans.
I could easily see the main story seeing us side with either the Kurzicks, the Luxons, or the remnants of the tengu (player’s choice) to work against a crazed emperor.
Or fried eggs, scrambled eggs with cheese, omelets of all kinds? What’s ArenaNet got against breakfast?
Well we have Clams and Seaweed…they acknowledge that food can come from the water at least >_>
Seaweed + Rice Balls + [insert seafood of choice here] = plenty of new recipe possibilities Make it happen, AN. Make it happen.
Currently, taverns serve no function that sets them apart from any of the other vendors in the game. I’d personally like to see them become more desirable places in which players would want to spend time. Aside from Divinity Reach’s Barroom Browl, does anyone have any ideas as to how this could be achieved?
Hopefully…hopefully…they’ll add fishing and seafood/shellfish recipes soon.
Despite cheaper storage and processing have you noticed a decline of housing in MMO’s? There is a reason for that.
Lately I’ve noticed a lot of changes in the video game industry, not all of them for the better. The “reason” to which you allude certainly isn’t a lack of interest from the players.
I’ve noticed that in some zones the sun always rises and sets in the west, while the moon always rises and sets in the east. I’ve noticed in other zones the sun and moon always rise and set in the west. For the sake of this discussion, let’s assume this isn’t just some lazy design decision made by the developers. What does this say about the nature of Tyria’s location and movement with regards to its sun and moon(s)?
He’s obviously a member of “The Forces of Brightness”.
I myself tend to side with the “Earthtone Coalition”.
There are far too few of us. Everyone seems to have joined “The Legion of Black”.
The charr are the future. On top of possessing advanced technology, industry, and military tactics, they’re taught from childhood to live and fight with and for one another.
“Thy asuran race is peaceful.”
No. They’re thugs. Think of rival mobs and replace “turf” with “research”. They frequently fight one another, and their most prized scientific advances often involve combat golems.
“The asuran race doesn’t want to harm nature.”
No. They’re responsible for oil spills, plant meltdowns whose fallout warps reality, and experimentation on flora and faun. Even sentient beings are treated as lab rats by asura.
“The asura intend to advance their civilization.”
No. They’re too busy worrying about their own, individual glory to care about their civilization as a whole. And their government is rank with corruption.
Tried the Queensdale bandits…killed 100 of them and not one chocolate bar. Going to try the dredge in Lornar Pass to see if I can get some there. I’m feeling like it’s become a super rare drop lately.
Chocolate, along with chili peppers, are a perpetual pain in my side. They’re both required in a lot of recipes, and I’m finding acquisition of either to be highly inefficient in terms of time invested vs materials gathered.
So you’re upset that your enemies are maintaining an effective defense? Don’t ask them to change the game, adapt your tactics.
I read his post as “small strike teams shouldn’t send up flares alerting the entire enemy army. If our foes have left sentries to defend their keeps, let those sentries raise the alarm themselves”. I don’t know if that’s what he actually said, but that’s what I’m going to pretend he said. And I’m going to agree him. And by “him”, I mean myself.
I have, but often forget about, consumables of the non-food, non-stone/oil/crystal variety (things like Scale Venom, Spy Kits, etc). It would certainly make things more convenient for us if you guys implemented a slot (with the option to bind it to a hotkey) for us to “equip” one of our consumables.
PLUSES:
Familiarity with Chinese and Korean online games.’’
http://ch.tbe.taleo.net/CH05/ats/careers/requisition.jsp?org=NCSOFT&cws=1&rid=1354
We can take from this that the to be hired Game Designer will work on Guild Wars 2, we can also take from this that it’s a plus to be familiar with Asian online games.
If I’m not mistaken, the Chinese government has in place strict regulations governing online gaming. Hiring someone familiar with these regulations would be sensible. I think you’re reading way too much into this.
GW2 has been in development for 6 years. It was less than 5 years from the start of development on GW1 until the release of EotN.
Apples to oranges…Guild Wars is a co-op rpg, Guild Wars 2 is a full-fledged mmorpg.
If they make Laurels more readily available by, say, giving them out for all of our achievements, or through dungeon tokens then everyone will quickly grab the BiS gear and we’ll be back to square one (there’s nothing to do/I need a carrot on a stick to keep me engaged).
If they make BiS gear obtainable in chests, say in jumping puzzles or from world bosses, then everyone will complain that the drop rate is too low and we’ll be back to square one-A (I should be rewarded for my time/the drop rate needs to be raised).
And of course, as this thread so aptly demonstrates, time-gating BiS gear upsets the people who think they should be able to outfit every one of the dozen alts in BiS gear in by the end of the week (hyperbole, people…chill).
That’s quite the conundrum ArenaNet now finds itself facing. And despite the fact that the impatient among you want your BiS gear now, the developers would be doing themselves and us a huge disservice if they didn’t take the time needed to consider and properly implement the next few steps they need to take.
Do you agree with the current way to “earn” laurels? That was what the original post was about.
Yes.
Are you going to defend doing easy to complete, random quickly completed quests where you earn one laurel per day to get something for one character in this game?
Yes.
Would you buy a second copy of this game with the current laurel system?
In a heartbeat.
What advice would you give to someone who just bought this game who has the goal to reach max stats?
“Enjoy the game and don’t worry about max stats.”
Would you tell them that is not the goal they should pursue?
Only if they enjoy the pursuit.
If complaining is how you get ArenaNet to change the game then why wouldn’t anyone complain about the game if they don’t like the direction it is going?
Complaining is precisely how we would up with ascended gear and Laurels in the first place.
I don’t have a problem with Ascended gear, just with using daily quests to time gate the acquisition of the gear.
I don’t know what to tell you.
Dailies are fine for some nice bonuses to experience, karma etc … but really the time gate for acquiring desired goals in-game is not the best solution.
In your opinion.

Were there any other questions?
If you say it’s about skill – then in a WvW between two equally skilled players, on a scale of probabilities, can an exotic geared player beat an Ascended geared player?
The Eternal Battleground is not a one-on-one dueling arena.
Dailies as they are currently implemented are a time gate, how about you try to discuss that and how it affects current players with alts and new players who have just bought the game.
How about you stop telling people what they can and cannot discuss.
Gear, and the advantages offered by gear, is pertinent to the discussion of Laurels. And the only reason Daily Achievements could possibly be a problem to anyone is because of Laurels. Therefore the discussion of ascended gear, like it or not, is on topic. Partake, or don’t. Either way, stop trying to control the conversation.

…and professions would be too powerful.
I’m not saying I agree with TC, but if all professions are too powerful, then none of them are too powerful.
I don’t have the slightest idea why these were made soulbound. While it’s not imperative that they be made account bound, it would make things more convenient for the chef who likes to keep his pantry well stocked with ingredients.
We need a proper endgame. Fotm is not endgame in a way since not everyone has the time to do it.
Well, then, why don’t you tell us what you consider engame? What exactly is it you, who has explicitly stated you believe BiS gear should be readily and cheaply accessible by all, are looking for after reaching the level cap?
They defined grind in reference to other MMOs as … “and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff” (starts around the 1:25 mark).
He knows; I’ve told him as much in previous posts. I fully believe he’s intentionally misrepresenting what the developers said for the sake of fostering argument.
Since there is many ways to earn XP in this game and no fixed quest chain, it’s entirely up to you to pick what’s fun for you as a way to level up.
Not to mention the instant upscale to level 80 when joining PvP or WvW.
Will be difficult to wait years for Cantha.
It should come soon and after it, we back to Tyria again.
If we go to Cantha only after saving Tyria from dragons would be a “problem”, people might feel tired of Tyria and it will be “deserted”.
No matter when or how they introduce a new continent, it’s going to herald the (at least temporary) desertion of Tyria. People might jump back for dragon fights or scratch off “kill X enemies in Y region” daily achievements, but by and large everyone is going to be spending the vast majority of their time in whatever new zones are added.
^Actually it does make sense because it’s his opinion and that’s how he/she feels, as do I. You don’t have to get all hot and bothered about it lol.
No, it doesn’t make sense. Believe it or not, opinions can and often are nonsensical. “GW is better than GW2 because it allowed me to set personal goals” is nonsense. “The game was made by suits, not gamers” is nonsense.
Lets face it, ANET sold out.
Everything that was unique about GW1 they decided to change to make it more ‘WoW like’ because they want more money.
Completely ruined the skill system
Nothing like FoW/UW/DoA in the game which was the most popular endgame
No second profession
Removed the instances
Auction house (would much rather spamadan)
Obsidian armour was the most sought after thing and kept me and many others playing for years, having one weapon with an animation is no where near as good
No energy
No guild halls (seriously…)They decided to cater for the ex wow players as they knew it would make more profit.. good job anet
Everything on your list, with the exception of “Removed the instances”, “No energy”
“No guild halls (seriously…)” is subjective. I.e. the fact that you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s bad. Now, let’s address the three quoted “sellout moves”.
“Removed the instances”. What? Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have instanced dungeons? Fractals of the Mist isn’t an instance? Do you even know what you’re talking about?
“No energy”. So you accuse ArenaNet of selling out and making the game more-WoW like, and to support your accusation you list the removal of energy. Does the removal of energy, a resource used to fuel skills, make the game more or less like WoW? Again I must ask, do you even know what you’re talking about?
“No guild halls (seriously…)”. Did ArenaNet not say guild halls would eventually be added to the game? Granted, it’s all talk until it actually happens. But if this is a deal-breaker for you, then I really, REALLY don’t know what to tell you.
Your post is completely irrational. You call them sellouts for changing things you don’t personally like, and you criticize them with factually untrue criticisms.
Edit: And for the record, I don’t like what they did to the mesmer class any more than you do, but that doesn’t mean “they sold out”. There may be people who actually like the change. When calling someone a sellout you should probably stick to the facts, as your opinions are not universally shared by all.
Double Edit: Guild Wars featured cash shop-exclusive items obtainable solely with cash. Guild Wars 2 features cash shot-exclusive items obtainable either with cash or with in-game currency? I’d love to hear you explain how that’s “selling out”?
(edited by darkace.8925)
No jumping honestly did not matter to me. Jumping does not a good game make.
I’ve not seen one person refer to jumping puzzles as a step backwards. Jumping may not make a bad game good, but it can certainly make a good game better.
What else did GW1 offer. To me it offered self set goals. One of which was exloring as much of the world while doing the bare minimum of missions. I had all missions and outposts unlocked by travelling to them except for Crystal Desert. Or uncover as much of the map as possible. I did this before the title was added. Unlock every single skill. These are self set goals, goals that GW2 is lacking. Or another way to look at it is freedom. Prophecies has it, GW2 a lot less.
Okay, you’re going to have to explain this paragraph to me. How on earth is any of that any different than GW2? You can’t set yourself a set of goals in GW2? You can’t explore in GW2? Unlocking skills in GW2 isn’t as complex or (subjectively) fun as it might have been in GW, but it’s still a goal one can set oneself in GW2, is it not?
GW1 felt like it was developed by gamers to me, while GW2 was developed by suits. I would not be playing this game if it had not been for the first.
Again, you’re going to have to explain this one to me. How is the ability to deposit crafting materials from anywhere in the world a feature conceived by a suit? How is the ability to access the Trading Post from anywhere in the world a feature conceived by a suit? How is an in-game currency exchange for cash shop currency a feature conceived by a suit? How are vistas feature conceived by suits? How? How are any of these features not implemented solely to enrich the players’ experience?
Your post makes absolutely no sense. None at all. I mean, none.
To my knowledge, there are still plenty of bugs that need fixing, there are still plenty of mini-games in cities that haven’t been implemented, there are still many perceived class imbalances, and there are still plenty of core-mechanics that need to be ironed out. I’d much rather the developers take care of these things before distracting themselves (and us) with an expansion.
@ Revolution. That’s actually fairly clever of you. You claim the developers said something they never did. At best, you misinterpreted what they actually said. At worst, and most probably, you’re just trolling.
Either way, you’re challenged to provide proof. And your response is to drop an hour and fifty minutes worth of video in hopes that we’ll waste our time combing through them looking for something that doesn’t even exist. No. That’s not proof. If the proof is in any of those videos (it’s not), then it’s up to you to tell us when. So as of now, I’m still waiting for you to provide proof.
Really do you know ONE single person who is doing the dailies for the sake of the dailie and not for the laurel it rewards? Would anyone of you do the dailies if they rewarded nothing?
I don’t how you play, but I rarely have to go out of my way to get 50 kills, gather 30 materials, or craft 10 items.
As a GW player, here’s my take.
I enjoyed GW’s “deck building” skill system. I loved the lower level cap, and all of the tightly-focused balance that brought. I liked the “less is more” approach of runes, again they were tightly focused and balanced. For some masochistic reason, I kind of (not wholly) miss Vanquishing. And I greatly miss heroes. Heroes gave me a chance to play around with classes I never intended to play.
I prefer the sideways progression of gear in GW, but I dislike the vast number of useless or redundant skills. The writing I find equally bad in both, but I like the little touches and the presentation more in GW2 more than in GW.
In everything else, from the combat mechanics to world exploration, I think GW2 trumps GW. For me, and this is of course just my opinion, I think GW2 is the better game by a great many miles.
And people why is everyone ignoring my Skins should be what we grind for argument?
Because it’s an opinion. I can’t argue against your opinion. I can, however, present to you the facts. The facts are that we can, but are not required to, grind for stats. Content is not gated behind a series of gear checks only passable by those with BiS gear. Until this changes, the “this game is a grind” argument is a baseless one.
Its not mine opinion. Area Net said this.
Read my post before commenting.
So you keep saying. Prove it. Provide one link to a blog or interview in which ArenaNet says what you claim they say. Just. One. Link.
Edit: And I’m still waiting for you to provide factual evidence of what the “majority” want.
(edited by darkace.8925)
I’ve never understood peoples dislike of the trinity system, it works and it is fun being able to say “yes I fulfill this role and I do it well”
As a FFXI vet, I can tell you why I don’t like the “roles”. Certainly roles will always be more valuable than others (tanks, healers, refreshers (FFXI exclusive?)). These guys never have trouble finding a group with whom they can play. DPSers, of whom there are generally many more than the “in-demand” roles, often wind up sitting around hoping to find someone with whom they can play. This problem is often compounded when players of certain roles take on an air of snobbery. They think they can dictate the terms to which everyone else in a party much adhere.
And for the record, I played a paladin and never had trouble finding a group. But I saw more than a few of that game’s many DPSers spamming chat looking…hoping to find someone who would let them play.
That’ll be like, two guys, who don’t enjoy anything in the game and you’re not even quite sure why they’re playing.
There’s a hell of a lot more than two guys on these forums that leave me wondering why they’re playing this game. A HELL of a lot more.
You seem like you’d be a perfect candidate for insert any MMO ever made. You’d really enjoy it!
I think you ignored the context of my post. Read it again, carefully this time, and then get back to me. I’ll give you a hint: what you’re looking for is between the lines.
