November. Remember that month? The month where there was an uproar against ascended gear? I have never read any threads that say they love it no, its always how they want it gone. Oh and in November people had so many issues against ascended gear Colin even commented on it.

So your “facts” are an anecdotal account of people complaining on an internet forum? That’s not a fact. That’s even close to a fact.

And I’ll give you a refresher, since your memory conveniently seems to be failing you. The months leading up to November saw the forums bombarded by just as many complaints about there being nothing to do (i.e. no gear towards which we can grind).

This is solid fact. How am I wrong? If I’m wrong break it apart piece by piece. Don’t ignore any part of my argument or I’ll call your argument unsound.

I’m still waiting for “solid fact”. You’ve presented none. And you, the guy presenting forum chatter as hard evidence of the general population’s opinion, are going to call my argument unsound? That’s rich. That is rich.

And people why is everyone ignoring my Skins should be what we grind for argument?

Because it’s an opinion. I can’t argue against your opinion. I can, however, present to you the facts. The facts are that we can, but are not required to, grind for stats. Content is not gated behind a series of gear checks only passable by those with BiS gear. Until this changes, the “this game is a grind” argument is a baseless one.

Lets be clear. Stats are not optional. Skins are!

Stats are not optional, but Best in Slot stats are. Before you try to ineffectively argue otherwise, name one thing I can’t do in this game unless I’ve got BiS stats. One thing. That’s it. Name one thing and we’ll talk. If you just pull your usual “talk circles around the issue at hand”, you might as well not even bother.

And on the side note your in the minority right now. Keep that in mind too.

Do you have data proving which side is in the minority? No? Then upon what grounds can you make this statement? We have a phrase for baseless statements presented as facts; but seeing as it might be considered rude, I’ll refrain from repeating it here.

Guild Wars 2 is a vast improvement over Guild Wars. Why? It fixes so many things Guild Wars did wrong; such as stagnant gear progression and a lack of end-game.

You can’t call Gw2 an improvment over the original Guild Wars

Too late…I just did.

Because you’re not a selfish guild member only interested in what you get out of it? I mean, clearly you are; but in general, one helps out guild members because they’re not selfish.

Would you like to explain why they should have to submit themselves to a boring grind for it? Why the pursuit of the best gear can’t be both challenging and enjoyable?

We’ve covered this; it’s a carrot on a stick. The fact that you don’t like carrots on a stick doesn’t mean they should be removed from the game. Remember, there are others who do enjoy chasing carrots. They’re not wrong for wanting them, just as you aren’t wrong for not wanting them.

There’s something, though, to note about “challenging” and “enjoyable”; these things are subjective. What you find challenging, another might find frustrating. What you find enjoyable, another might hate.

We, the community, don’t all share the same values. Accordingly, ArenaNet has to try to give each of us a little of what we want. This means compromise. You want quick access to BiS gear. ArenaNet didn’t give you what you wanted, but they compromised by not implementing stringent gear checks.

Ascended gear is optional.

It’s as simple as that, and yet there’s no shortage of people foolishly arguing the opposite.

So is exotic gear.

So why do you bother decking your character out in exotic gear?

Not because I have to. Because I want to. Because I enjoy doing so. The moment…the exact millisecond gearing my characters ceases to be fun is the exact millisecond I’ll stop bothering.

Soooo much bullcrap in this thread.

Dailies are tedious, repetitive, and force you to do something you don’t really want to be spending your time doing.

In what way are you forced to do dailies?

that’s just insane. pvp requires you to have the best gear to be competitive.

First, PvP freely gives everyone access to the same gear. Second, there are plenty of people who compete competitively in WvW without the best gear. That you believe otherwise is a clear indication that you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

If you like gear grind EVERY other MMO was designed for you. If you don’t like the gear treadmill, what MMO do us players have? It was supposed to be GW2.

So now, with the addition of ascended gear, you cannot play Guild Wars 2 without grinding for gear? You cannot enjoy whatever it is you enjoyed about the game before the addition of ascended gear?

Anyway i hope things change asap..Ascended should have been acquired exactly the same way as all the other armor, weapon and trinket types in exactly the same paths, people would have gotten them faster than others but…. who really cares?

Ascended gear was added precisely because exotic gear was too easy to obtain. Do you not remember all the “there’s nothing to do” posts back in the day? ArenaNet added ascended gear to placate the people who wanted a carrot on a stick. And now the other camp is demanding the carrot on the stick be removed. Now matter what they do, the developers are just going to be trading one group of whiners for another.

except fractals…

You can complete individual Fractals without ascended gear. You cannot Fractals as a whole, ascended gear or no, because it’s infinite.

and if people can complete everything with lower tiers of gear wouldn’t that also make exotics useless?

Exotic gear, like ascended gear, is not useless. But neither is it a requirement. It’s a luxury; nothing more, nothing less. If guys want to bash your heads against a wall doing things you don’t enjoy for luxuries, go ahead. I think it’s foolish, but it’s your prerogative.

The only thing I can’t successfully complete using just exotics is Fractals, and that’s because Fractals is never-ending. So I’ll say it again, this time with no ambiguity: There is NOTHING you can successfully complete with full ascended gear that I can’t successfully complete with full exotics.

They did? Didn’t notice. So far we had to run fractals to get the rings. Then they added a time gated way to get them with laurels. Problem is, I HAVE to use those laurels to get the necklace, so I cannot spend them for rings. So in the end, they didn’t really add a new way to get the rings.

As for that, then necklaces still only have one way to get them : Laurels. The mystic crafted one doesn’t count since it’s only one bad stat set it provides.

So far, they didn’t add new ways to get the ascended gear I for me.

Obtained from Fractals? “I don’t want to grind a dungeon for BiS gear.”
Obtained from Dailies? “I don’t want to wait to get BiS gear.”
Obtained via Gold? “It don’t want to grind gold for BiS gear.”
Obtained from Gem Store? “I don’t want to pay2win for BiS gear.”
Obtained from challenging fights? “It’s too hard to get BiS gear.”

What’s left? Do you people seriously think BiS gear obtained with no investment of time or effort?

So let me ask you, why then would people want to reach level 99 instead of 98, to equip exotics instead of rares? That’s the answer as to why people want to get ascended too. But the effort:reward ratio initially introduced in guild wars (in terms of base BiS equipments) have been kittened off by the ascended tier.

I think stopping at 98 instead of getting 99 is more akin to not equipping an amulet rather than equipping a masterwork amulet over a BiS one. But I respect that you might not feel the same way.

Now let me ask you a question. If that last level, 99, is a boring grind…one offering no enjoyment and minimal benefit…why do it? If you can do everything almost as well at 98, why subject yourself to something you don’t need and won’t enjoy?

Too many of you are hung up on gear scores (which the game doesn’t even have). This is compounded by a widespread sense of entitlement. Far too many gamers feel they’re entitled to BiS gear with little or no invested effort. So many of you are so conditioned to chase the BiS that you’ve forgotten the fundamental purpose of video games…to have fun.

Although it doesn’t affect you as you are ok with settling, technically, you’ve merely decided to settle [quit] at a certain point because not finishing the game as originally intended by the design doesn’t bother you. Like deciding to stop reading a book or watching a series because you have an idea on how it’s gonna end anyway.

Not even close. The “design of the game” isn’t gear. That’s the whole point. BiS gear is great if that’s your personal goal, but the game wasn’t designed around it. It was designed to let you enjoy the various aspects without requiring your to have BiS gear.

What I fear is the characters looking too similar. I actually wanted to save the Thief so I could create a Tengu Thief or whatever a newly added race will offer. The Engineer could be Human and the Guardian Charr.

Between races, varying armor styles, and dyes, you can make two adventurer characters look very different. Just in generic medium armor you can get a pirate/swashbuckler look, a naval officer look, a gunslinger look, or a rogue/assassin look.

What do you think in terms of matching each profession to a race? What would you recommend? (I don’t know for Asura, they are really a bit too small I wanna see my armor and grow my kitten^^)

That’s a subjective answer. The correct answer for this questions is “whatever you want”. Take a look at cultural armors for the varying races, they might inspire you to choose a race and class combination.

Yeah. I have read about the gardens in WoW and it sounded interesting. Something to do just to waste some time and to get mats also. Maybe even be able to grow one of each type of tree, like a soft wood or ancient wood. You should be required to water/fertilize the plants in order to harvest within the next 24 hours.

This would give people a reason to go to their home instance and give them something do while there.

I don’t know how WoW does it, but in FFXI is was simply a system that allowed us to plant seeds in pots we’d placed in our houses. It wasn’t much, but I’m sure AN could do much to expand it; making it both more visually pleasing and more interactive.

That’s EXACTLY right. If you don’t find getting exotics, doing dungeons, or leveling at all to be fun, you’d be a kitten fool to waste time doing it. I’d love it if every home instance had a garden node (featuring as many plants as other node farms) in which we could plant seeds (gold sink). I’d propose each plant generate a random ingredient, depending upon the type of seed planted: fruits, vegetables, roots vegetables, herbs, and regional seeds producing things found in specific regsions (like chili peppers from Ascalonian seeds or sesame seeds from Krtan seeds).

In my FFXI days I always had a full set of 10 pots/mule growing something. It wasn’t necessarily fun, but it was useful. I’d personally like something similar in this game.; especially since I’m always short on chili peppers.

chances of Elonians as a playable race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

You can still select Elonian as your heritage when Logan asks you about it in the story missions, IIRC. Since they’re already represented in this manner, it seems pretty unlikely.

I’ve repressed the memory of that fact, as it flies directly in the face of what it is I’m hoping for.

I think what you’re actually asking for is an Elona expansion. In which case i’m sure a lot of people are all thinking the same.

Kind of. There’s no doubt we’ll get an Elonian expansion. They’ve already placed a gate to the Crystal Desert, which I’m assuming will be opened up with an Elonian expansion. Whenever we figth Kralk, I (and I doubt I’m alone) assume we’ll do it on Elonian soil.

What I’m hoping is that it isn’t just a “new zones, new dungeons, and increased level cap” expansion. I know it won’t be a stand alone campaign, as it was in the first game; but I’m hoping we’ll still get a new race, complete with personal story, and a city and explorable zones running from level 1 to 50(ish).

We’d only get Elonian faces and skin types when there’s a Elona expansion, it’s what they did with GW1. Every campaign had a different set of faces, hair & skin tone.

It’s not so much the fact, skin tones, or hair styles that I’m hoping for (though more options is never a bad thing). It’s the voice acting. I’ve already got a level 80 human. All others I’ve made, because of the shared voice acting, home city, and biographies, feels to much like reskinned versions of my level 80 human (choice of class notwithstanding).

I’d love…I’d plop down money for…an optional voice actor for different human ancestries. But because voice acting is costly, and because what they already have in place works just fine, this isn’t going to happen.

How are Elonans a “seperate race”? In GW1 they were just people of African and Mediterranean decent as per their culture themes.

How are they not a different race?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_%28human_classification%29

I would pitch a fit and never shut up if Elonians or Canthans were presented to us a new “playable race.” That would just be uncreative on Anet’s part, not to mention lazy.

Uncreative? Maybe. Lazy? I don’t see how developing entirely new storylines, cities, and zones could be considered lazy.

I know humans, all humans, have been rolled into one homogeneous race. But I’d personally like a distinctive Elonian race, complete with their own personal stories, voice actors, zones, and city. I’d say the same thing about Canthans, but I’m quite certain that’s not going to happen.
