I personally like the Pact Morning Star
I’ve considered that one. I do like the white glow, but I’m not especially crazy about the dark colored metal. It’s a petty thing to nitpick, but when we’re talking about the way my character is going to look from now until the end of time (or at least until Santa Clause brings me The Moot), it’s got to be perfect.
I’m a REAL practicing Druid…
We DO NOT shape shift.
I’m a REAL engineer.
We DO NOT detonate explosives under our feet and call them “Rocket Boots”.
lmao
Lastly how is Scoped bugged? I use it all the time on my engineer, when I stand still my crit chance goes up by 10% as soon as I move it goes down.
Tests suggest that despite the displayed increase, there is no actual effect.
I understand the “protect my flesh and blood” sentiment many of you have expressed. But remember, Eir is norn. And I remember a time when other races sent armies to save the world from the destroyers while the norn sent only a handful, fully believing a few norn to be the match of any army. Those norn wouldn’t have asked someone else to babysit their grown son.
While we’re discussing casual things to do, might I propose a drunken race through a jumping puzzle-like obstacle course in Hoelbrak?
OMG vanity items… that are luxury items and have no impact on our ability to play… They must be stopped from doing what they told us they would do with vanity items we want…
There’s no need to be so condescendingly passive aggressive. It is possible to disagree with someone without being snide to them.
I do apologize. its just some times the people on this forum can be just so insane… it can really get to a person
People aren’t upset that ArenaNet is charging for vanity items. They’re upset that ArenaNet is asking us the gamble for vanity items.
If AN had simply introduced these dyes in the Gem Store, either individually or in a pack, I promise you there would be no shortage of people lining up to purchase them. But since they’re locked away in a RNG chest, one could conceivably spend hundreds of dollars on gems and not get the dyes they want. Surely you can understand where the that would anger some?
In Guild Wars there was a cash shop. There were plenty of people who happily forked over money for vanity items. But they always got exactly what they paid for. They were never beholden to RNG, or gambling, when it came to cash shop purchases. Fast forward to GW2, and the hiring of someone who worked on MapleStory (a game where RNG cash shop items are famous) and now we’ve got a system where spending money might get you the vanity item you want, and it might not.
Some of the responses got wondering what the Consortium’s end-game in all this is? Are they a benevolent group just trying to lend a hand to the downtrodden? Or do they have some ulterior motive behind their seemingly charitable actions? If the latter is the case, is it simply a case of them looking to profit from others’ misfortune? Or could they actually be up to something more sinister than profiteering?
what’s going to happen with that psycho sylvari?
OMG… she frightens me… I was like, here are your eggs, I’m outa here… no no, don’t worry about the omelettes! I already ate!
lol
They developed the off hands in the mind that torch is offensive, shield is defensive, and focus is a split in the middle.
Not quite. The torch is for offense, the focus is for defense, and the shield is for support.
I personally wish the guardian’s shield skill set was more in line with that of the warrior’s. I don’t like having to choose between a shield that doesn’t look like a shield and a shield that is a shield in appearance only.
That’s a very detailed write-up. Thanks for the breakdown.
Using transmutation to move equipment around only works for the skin, not the stats. It has to be put onto a white item, which can’t have good stats, and then transmuted onto another exotic item.
Ah, that fact slipped right past me. Thanks for the clarification.
It really depends on whether you’re a “destination guy” or a “journey guy”.
A destination guy wants out of end-game some kind of tangible reward to chase. He’s going to get to the level cap as quickly as possible so he can begin pursuing that reward. In Guild Wars 2, destination guys typically run dungeons or Fractals, work towards Legendary weapons, pursue world completion, complete achievements, join WvW, or participate in PvP.
A journey guy wants to enjoy the game without any thought to a specific goal. They’re the guys who don’t mind replaying lower level zones that they enjoy and are more apt to roll alts. They want to experience as much of the world as they can, and usually don’t fret over the pace at which they do so.
I guess what I’m trying to say is end-game is whatever you want it to be. If you want to chase a goal, pick one and go for it. If you just want to enjoy yourself, keep doing whatever it is you find fun.
I’m guessing this is the shield in questions…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Priory%27s_Historical_ShieldYes! That’s the shield. His armor had a similar look to it as well. Is there anything like that?
To my knowledge there is no armor that appears to be made of glass. Perhaps what you saw was a clever selection of dyes to match the shield, thus giving the impression they were of the same material?
Joe told me he didn’t like running dungeons.

I have most of the things I need to make a legendary weapon, just need to save up the 600-700gold to buy the precursor. But I have 10 characters that I play on, say I switch between 3 weapons on each of them (I use more on most of them actually). Thats 30 weapons, basically I wouldn’t see that legendary very often.
Altitus…she is a harsh mistress.
1. The bounty training is for.. Training.
2. It rewards 3,000 influence for small guilds who may have trouble unlocking regular ones.
3. They are meant to help you obtain the regular bounty missions over time as was the complaint of small guilds “we don’t make enough influence”.
4. Almost every guild I’ve seen has offered help to small guilds to complete bounties if they ASK.If i am ever ikittenone and I see a bounty person, I call it out in map chat with the closest waypoint. If I see a guild fighting a bounty I (and sometimes my other guildies) will hop in to help
Exactly. The game was built on working together, think people forget this.
Unfortunately, to some people it is and will always be “get mine > everything else”.
Need vs Want. You need one character slot. You want more character slots.
People love challenges. I remember seeing level 2 prophecies characters that had made it to the end only leveling once.
With ascension required to advance the story, how is that possible?
I misinterpreted the cooldown. I didn’t realize it was a global cooldown, and I agree 20 seconds seems a bit much. This wouldn’t hurt a Engineer running one or maybe two kits on his skill bar, but someone with three is certainly going to feel this change.
But even with the harsh shared cooldown, is it really that bad of a trait? It still seems to me to be in line with the rest of the Adept traits in the Tools trait line. They all strike me as marginally useful traits.
I’m seeing a lot of discussion about Kit Refinement. Being a turret Engineer, I never really paid a ton of attention to the trait, but seeing it being the subject of so many threads now has me wondering what I missed.
I’m wondering why everyone is so upset over this trait. It looks to me, on paper, to be a useful skill. It doesn’t seem overpowered; it doesn’t seem underpowered. It looks like what I’d expect an Adept-tiered trait to look like. Yet I see a lot of vitriol over the trait. And that has me asking myself two questions.
First question: if the current iteration of Kit Refinement is so bad why not simply choose a new trait? The only answer I can think of is “it used to be so much better.” And that answer leads me to my second questions: if Kit Refinement used to be such a good trait that it was too good to pass up, then don’t you think a bit of a nerf was probably in order?
I’m not looking to rock the boat here, I’m legitimately curious why everyone’s so upset. And as I said, I don’t know what KR used to be or why it was such a staple in other builds, so please feel free to fill me in. Thanks.
Hopefully it’s the next town mini-game (Keg Brawl, Bar Brawl, Archery Range, etc).
I’m playing since the free trial with the Karka-event, and I’ve yet to find any of those. Actually, I’ve read “Keg Brawl” the first time when it became part of the dailies. I admit I didn’t bother yet to look it up in the wiki, though. Didn’t know there are minigames in this game (aside from Keg Brawl apparently).
At the moment, it’s just Keg Brawl. I would think these fun diversions would be some of the highest priorities for the content designers, but for whatever reason the developers are taking their time implementing them.
Yes and no. Yes, they use things like highly desirable vanity skins locked behind RNG chests to get players to gamble real money for said skins. No, they didn’t design the game “just to make money”. Anyone who has played the game, or who has listened to the content developers speak about the development of Guild Wars 2, will recognize they have a passion for the game and have gone to great lengths to develop a game everyone can enjoy.
I would imagine the experience gained while progressing toward world map completion would be more than enough to push a character to level 80.
If the super adventure box is just for April fools it will be the biggest letdown in MMO history and won’t be funny at all. A lot of people are really looking forward to that, and it seems much too elaborate to be a joke.
Hopefully it’s the next town mini-game (Keg Brawl, Bar Brawl, Archery Range, etc).
I’d love the option to choose different voices for characters, but it’s a costly feature that’s not necessary. In other words, it’s not going to happen.
Please re read, I said that is not going to happen. My idea was for a voice pitcher to change how high and low your character can sound, there is plenty of this software online for your own voice and it may not be so hard as you think to create and implement into the game.
I did read it. Given the fact that Scope, an Engineer trait that has been bugged since release (7 months ago), still hasn’t been fixed I can’t help but feel the staff is stretched thin enough as is. Again, I’d love the option to change voices, but I just don’t think they’re going to waste any resources (time, money, or man hours) on voice options of any kind; not when what they already have works well enough.

I run full Soldier’s armor (haven’t decided on trinkets or runes just yet) with a Mace and a Shield and 30/0/0/20/20 for my PvE build. The build doesn’t kill as quickly as other builds, but it’s more than capable of face-tanking just about anything.
Human T2 helm

maybe Seraph or Kryta’s EmbracePlease post what you have choosen. I’m looking for a mace for months.
Yeah, I’ve gone through that (and the mace) gallery many times. It’s hard to pick a shield skin before I get my armor skins in place and finalize my color scheme.
White armor with gold trim, a nod to GW’s Paragon, would obviously look great with a Shield of the Wing. If I go with a silver armor and a blue tabard then perhaps Kryta’s Embrace would be the way to go. If I go with gold armor and a red tabard then I’ll probably go with the Lionguard Shield.
As for maces, I’m not happy with any of them. The ones that look special don’t fit the “paladin” look I’m looking for, and the ones that fit the “paladin” look I want are all really generic. I’m not looking for a “look at me” weapon, but I would like something a little less bland than the common maces I’ve been salvaging since I left Shaemoor.
OMG vanity items… that are luxury items and have no impact on our ability to play… They must be stopped from doing what they told us they would do with vanity items we want…
There’s no need to be so condescendingly passive aggressive. It is possible to disagree with someone without being snide to them.
Better question is why didnt they also add the tickets in as a reward for completion of the 2 instanced events aswell? kinda pointless adding new skins only to gate them behind stupid chests with no doubt stupid drop rates.
It’s not pointless, it’s just not player-friendly.
Of course, tactically speaking having them in one of the above cities to reinforce the defences is probably a better plan, but Hoelbrak at least already has a refugee population, so it’s possible that the reason they’re not doing that is because they’re already near capacity, and they want to ensure that the refugees that are staying are the ones that will be most useful in a fight.
Interesting take. We’re not privy to the actual logistical strain the refugees put on Hoelbrak and the Black Citadel. Perhaps feeding them just isn’t feasible. So what better solution than to plop them down somewhere with lots of edible fruit and plenty of fish to be hauled from the sea? This might be doubly true if citizens of the aforementioned cities pay taxes where refugees would pay none; but we’ve seen nothing outside the BLTP that indicates taxes are something that exists in the realm of Tyria.
I wonder if the refugees are lured to Southsun with the same advertisements that appeared in LA before that update. Beach resort anyone? Gosh I seriously thought we could have at least a bit of the area to chill out in. Cute drinks with umbrellas and all.
Hopefully the refugees aren’t as gullible as I was. OvO
We have wine, spirits, beer, and ale available in game. Where are the kittentails? And where is the mead, for that matter?
I’m looking to make exotic magic find armor and trinkets for my characters. On paper, transmuting the soulbound exotic armor to some generic armor should make it account bound. But it doesn’t look like this will be possible for trinkets, unless I’m missing something. Is the best I’m going to be able to do three sets of magic find armor (one of each light, medium, and heavy armor) and a set of magic find trinkets for each character (an expensive solution I’d rather avoid if possible)? Thanks.
I wouldn’t do it, but if you feel compelled then you should go for it. I would personally do everything I could to ensure they play differently (one banner/shout support warrior and one burst damage warrior, for example), but that, again, is up to you.
Edit: And RebelYell has a good point; you’d get a chance to see more personal story.
Watching Thieves get a hotfix within a week of one of their traits being broken by a patch while knowing Engineers have a bugged trait that has gone untouched since release seven months ago is disheartening. I give the developers the benefit of the doubt on most things, but it really is starting to look like they don’t care about the Engineer, the least played profession in the game.
Same, more fluff is always good. It gives you something to do beside fighting.
As for artists, what about musical instruments ? Have them crafted or maybe bought from NPC, and equiped like a weapon. Buttons 1-5 would do different notes and you could have flute, medieval guitar, drum etc. so a group of players could start a gig ^^
And to avoid trolls, add a simple “mute musical instruments” in the sound menu (or an option to mute individual player).
I like the suggestion. I’d recommend a lute, a lyre, a fife, a drum, a trumpet, and some bagpipes. Those are all appropriately medieval, though the asura demonstrate this game isn’t just a medieval fantasy setting.
As long as the community could remain civil (I have my doubts), I think this could be a good thing.
I doubt it will happen. Skills and story lines. Cultural armor and weapons.
Too much to change.
Exactly. Imagine the complaining we’d here from race-changed players who want the gold they paid for their T3 cultural armor refunded.
Whoa now, you’re putting words in my mouth. I never said all seven other professions put out more DPS. I didn’t even say ONE profession did. I said he was right in that stealth-based DPS has been lowered, particularly in PvE. That is all I was pointing out. Hyperbole, hyperbole everywhere.
Yeah, that should have been “Rizzy”. I’ll correct it.
Sounds like WOW I always hated starting a new character and getting to lvl 20 before I started having fun. But barebones is ok as long as I can get the chance to learn the game controls and such before having too much thrown at me all at once.
You’ll want to use the bare-bones levels to learn the core principle of dodging and fluid combat. You’ll also want to use this opportunity to unlock as many of your weapon skills as possible. This will give you a chance to learn what each weapon does, allowing you to decide what style you most enjoy.
nope, not much changed just a drop in DPS for a DPS class that is out DPSed by other classes.
I heard overreaction was all the rage these days, but some of you guys have gone WAY off the reservation.
there talking PvE although you’ve been told this many times before but seem to still be slightly annoyed because a thief killed you a few times in pvp and thus think everything is about pvp.
Would you be as condescending if I told you I’m strictly a PvE’er? Probably, so I won’t waste my time telling you that I don’t PvP.

Well, he’s right
How is he right? Do you guys have access to some hard-evidence that every other profession in the game – all seven of them – are capable of putting out bigger DPS numbers than thief?
Did thief take a hit? Sure. Did they get nerfed into irrelevancy? Of course not. Rizzy, and a lot of other players, are overstating the situation by quite a large margin.
(edited by darkace.8925)
hehe thanks for the advice.
I was reading all the profession descriptions and I was looking at either thief or necromancer as I think either of those would suit my play style.
Welcome to the game.
You’ve got five character slots, so you can play both thief and necromancer a bit before deciding which you prefer (if any). Just bear in mind you’ve got no utility skills, elite skills, or traits to play with until you get some experience under your belt, so the early levels are kind of bare-bones.
I actually ran that cutscene multiple times in order to screencap her responses so I could read them later at my leisure. The fact that I had to do it at least three times is ridiculous though, girl needs to slow down.
Thanks for the caps.
I’ve got to say, Eir’s dialogue seems off. What self-respecting norn tries to talk their grown child out of a chance to earn glory?

I’ve (more or less) got all my gear in terms of stats. It’s now time to transmute them to the skins I want. I’m going for the stereotypical “paladin” look that will be anchored by the human T3 breastplate.
I’m looking for clean and polished, so anything dark, rusty, spiky, or tribal looking is out. Because I’m a lowly pauper, Legendaries, too, are out (though I’d kill to get my hands on the Flameseeker Prophecies). With those guidelines in mind, what are your best suggestions for a mace, shield, and helmet?
Thanks much to all who offer their assistance.
Would makes you happy hearing “no plan for this year, maybe next years, when ready” ?
Oh my, the outrage that would ensure from such an announcement. Don’t you know? We, the community, are entitled to the rarest, most desired gear in the game and we’re entitled to it sooner than later.
RNG-exclusive dyes now as well?
Kristin Cox strikes again.
Jeweler is one of the two crafting disciplines I’ve not leveled, but I can see, hypothetically, how the introduction of Ascended gear would seriously hurt Jewelers.
Welcome back.

I will not play on my thief until it is made playable again.
Thief is unplayable? Why, then, am I still able to log in on my thief? Am I running a hacked version of the game? I hope ArenaNet doesn’t ban me.
