Play GW2 as it should be, with a controller!

Wait! Don’t hit that back button just yet. Hear me out on this one. * Ahem *

Guild Wars 2 is meant to be played with, and plays much better with a controller.

Anyone still here? Good, now that all of those people are gone bar the door.

I have been on a long hiatus from Tyria but am jumping back in in earnest. I meant to post this here a long time ago, but previously when I was attempting it these boards weren’t even up and running yet.

So here it is:
How I Learned to Stop Trolling and Love the Controller.

Don’t let that wall of text beyond the link scare you, a good chunk of it isn’t even pertinent any more. It’s now mostly revision notes.

Anyway, there is a lot of work that went into creating and testing that profile and using it makes playing GW2 akin to playing a well oiled console game. Meaning, better. I kid, we all know the PC is the master race. But now you can put your feet up comfortably (but keep your keyboard handy for chat) and have at it proper just like you would with that old keyboard and mouse.

Just one caveat, aside from chatting you can perform any in-game action with my profile (some commands aren’t mapped to the controller, but all of them are in there if you choose to map them yourself), but for things like inventory management and crafting are still easier with a keyboard and mouse. My profile is meant for minute to minute game play.

Are they still out there? Drat! Ok ok, leave the bar in the door and quietly skulk out the back.

Go have fun!

*And if you have any feedback, please leave it in the thread on the Pinnacle boards

Nice man. I plan on trying this out. One question tho…while is the keyboard and mouse still activated? Meaning if I needed to type something, could I without having to restart or whatever?

Survey: Want Ascended Armors & Weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

dcypher.2590

Whether we want it or not, they have already said they will be releasing full Ascended armor and weapons.

And seeing as how the current trend on Ascended gear is (adding a new currency for every new piece they release), we are going to have a lot of new currencies each time they add more Ascended gear.

And they also said they’ll eventually add more levels.

Which, of course, would nullify all this ascended armor everyone is grind grinding for because then they would have to re-grind grind for the level 90 or whatever the max level version is.

=D

In answer to your question in the title:

So? That’s an mmo. Carrot on a stick. Hook-line-and sinker. Whatever you want to call it. It would also nullify more than just ascended armor. Don’t really see what your point is.

I don’t think that even if they wanted to implement raids that they would turn out any different than world bosses. An AoE fest with a boss with 1 or two moves. I just can’t see the combat system ever allowing any kind of in-depth gameplay for a big group. Rarely get that out of the dungeons as it is.

Its a great deal more social then WoW for most of the players. In GW2 you must talk with your team running dungeons in WoW you do not even need to ask ppl for invites a program dose it all for you. You do not need the ability to even read or talk to rune these dungeons in WoW that is about as anti social as you can get with any standers of human interaction.

Nah. Give or take fractals >20ish you don’t need to talk to anyone in a dungeon. It’s all pretty much just staying out of red circles. In other games you can at least take the chance to get to know a good tank or a good healer or a good dps that you may want to get to know. *Also in other games people have to use CC making you at the very least useful if you are good at CC.CC doesn’t work the same way in GW2 which is good for pvp but kinda lame for PvE (then again the dungeons are so easy you don’t really need CC so eh).

Not saying this game is bad, just saying no matter what profession you are..the dungeons basically just come down to you…with the only interaction between players is mostly reviving them from downed states. The bosses are all pretty much the same give or take a different condition to cure.

Hell, to tell you the truth the only characters I can even recall their names besides my guildies are people with Twilight.

Ya.. you do the swamp with out talking that some fun.

Yea it’s pretty easy mode. But I guess there are people who find it hard. Is what it is…a casual, easy game.

Well yes and no. It definitely doesn’t promote group play. I mean sure you can just follow the zerg if you want. Run into someone while you are doing the same heart or mini-event. But as far as getting together with people and being strategic together, the open world doesn’t really promote that. Hell, the LFG tool is probably the most useless tool in the game at this point.

I think even allowing custom arenas to turn it off is a source in itself that it blows in pvp and that at least somebody at ArenaNet knows people want to play without the gimmick. Hopefully it will translate to the rest of pvp eventually.

Now, I doubt that they decided to add that feature because everyone thinks it’s awesome and it’s such an amazing part of the combat structure…

In a sense I feel like this games “end game” is quite literally just grinding. I’ve spent the last month or so standing in one spot in malchors leap, farming one event. But I mean what can I really say besides that’s the game they created. It’s their design that something as boring as this is the most efficient way to get gold/mats.

However I don’t really know how they would fix it. Add raids? Doubt those would even work with the way the games classes are. It would turn into what world bosses are – a mess of people in a storm of particle effects, and a chest at the end. No real teamwork besides maybe rezzing a downed player.

You just want to deny adding them because you don’t want the TP to be blocked or because there are waypoints, or because you don’t want anyone to have something you don’t. That’s being selfish. Everything said against mounts has been nothing but an excuse or some kind of line assuming they know how long it would take a dev to create.

But whatever, like I said before, suit yourselves. All you’re really doing is making it so gw2 has one less element to it to draw people in and keep them entertained. Hooks. It’s that simple.

Its selfish and hypocritical when your argument’s point is “because you guys don’t want me to have it” and saying “That is selfish” afterwards. You have no legit point as to why mounts should be made in GW2 other than “Every other MMO has done it”. You’ve not come up with a single counter-point to the ones given. The fact is, not alot of people want mounts and there will more than likely be no mounts between now and forever.

Are you illiterate? If adding cosmetic features to a cosmetic game isn’t reason enough, I don’t know what to tell you. There are already mounts being rolled out as pointed out by other people. Get with the program! If you can’t tell the difference between me providing a good reason for them to continue to be implemented and those who are saying go back to wow, fit the lore, block the to, wah wah wag, then I don’t know what to tell you.

There’s technically already mounts in the game, but they’re “cosmetic mounts.” I prefer these, actually, and would like to see more. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out the broom and drill. Now if we could get some animals or giant things to ride, that would be great. But the premise of these mounts not granting a speed bonus or “flying” (they can hover) is a necessary mechanic.

Yea that’s what I’ve been saying the whole time. Thanks for maybe putting it a nicer way.

Word? You must be really bad at reading comprehension. This game is all about cosmetics. There’s nothing that is difficult, there’s nothing that is acquired by skill. Even legendaries are a product of farming. Mounts would be another tool in the cosmetic arsenal this entire game is designed around.

Somewhere along the line you came up with the idea that I am the only one asking for this. If I were, then I’d be selfish. Unfortunately for you I’m not. The people saying no have selfish reasons, selfish because they rely on pointing fingers at one other game, and talking about blocking npc’s, or because there is no need (which is the funniest because having something else to spend time getting is what an mmo thrives on). But alas, you’re right. I’m so selfish, so selfish that if they implemented mounts I may be the only person to be on one.

And if you think people don’t play games for things that are viewed in today’s gaming world as essentials such as cool looking mounts, cool looking gear, cool titles, etc… You are kidding yourself. Where do you think “carrot on a stick” came from in mmos?

Like I said, it’s whatever.

Alright. Sounds good. Suit yourselves, really. To me it’s a fundamental. To deny the addition of something more for people to collect just because you don’t like them is selfish in my opinion. Btw the TPs are overcrowded to begin with and most of the time are indoors which would make mounts unusable, but whatever you say; logic eludes. Anyway, anything would liven up boss chests that (if you’re lucky) you get level 80 rares with level 1 skins.

Also, I don’t even play wow, but all the attention you’re giving them is making me think it might be a good game.

I dislike how a lot of players turn down harmless content just because it was in some other game that everyone knows I’m talking about. That stubborn way of thinking is like denying a ferrari just because your neighbor has one.

Some players actually enjoy the collection of exotic creatures, even better when they can be ridden.

a mount is harmless content and for all of you haters, point out the harm…plz

Or more should I ask a question : IF mounts were added to the game, how does this negatively affect you? (not emotionally, but in game)

Your entire post is nothing but an attempt to devalue the opinions of others just because you don’t agree with them. Additionally I don’t think I would call someone a hater just because they don’t want something you want.

I could use some negative label to refer to you because you want an in game item that I don’t like but out of respect for your opinion I refrain from doing so. You simply don’t have the same opinion and that’s fine. Just because they don’t like mounts doesn’t mean they are haters. That term is often used by someone that is struggling to support their thoughts regarding a topic they are trying to defend.

I have already explained how it would affect me and it has little to do with emotion but how it would affect my game play experience.

Oh there is no struggle to defend wanting to have mounts in the game. For a lot of players it’s the same thing as collecting anything else like pets/mnis/gear. There’s nothing but more good that can happen for a game that expands the quantity of things for players to do.

I even suggested that they don’t have a speed buff at all..just cosmetic, riding mounts that look cool and involve collecting. But the naysayers still, for some reason, can’t even fathom that because it’s like…wow… lol as if world of warcraft is the only game with a mount.

If your experience in a game hinges on something as little as a mount and not something serious like balance and exploits well, more power to ya.

Also, devaluing someone’s opinion suggests that they had value to begin with. If their argument is founded by something as ignorant as “this game isn’t wow” then it didn’t hold any weight to begin with.

The excuses are funny. Too much dev time? Not wow (spoken as if wow was the only game that had a mount in it lol)? Drop in fps? No horses? Lame, really. I know saying people are bad at collecting is a pretty poor argument, but it isn’t any lamer than these.

Probably not. As you can see there are a lot of people who don’t want them, which to me means there is a lot of people who are bad at collecting things like that so..there ya have it.
There’s really no valid excuse not to have them in an mmo(where people collect things) so you see people resort to it being against lore or some other silly excuse. Hell, even if they implemented mounts that are purely cosmetic and don’t increase speed at all, I bet they’d still get all worked up over it.

What feature do you miss from your old MMO

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: dcypher.2590

Trinity and LFG

Not having a role kinda blows long term, imo. Very little separates you from any other member of your class.

LFG tool is pretty much mandatory. Directing your playerbase to a third-party site just to get a group feels pretty pathetic to me. Even tho the site is very useful, this is a standard tool in mmo..not to have one(especially this far past launch) is droppin the ball.

Lots of people talk priorities. In that case, I’d say quality of life (tools, performance, etc) mechanics are way more important than any other area.

Just a heads up Dcypher, magic find does not affect chest drops, so it will not help you with world bosses. Magic find is better for cursed shore/event farming.

I also agree that loot is pretty horrid and provides little to no incentive for me to participate in a lot of the game.

Yea, and I feel that I am stuck doing cursed shores for the rest of eternity… Another point is if they are just going to bill these rares as whites, why give them good stats? They are obviously intended to be used, and by giving them level 1 skins I can only come to the conclusion that they feel it’s acceptable for a level 80 to run around looking like a level 1. Maybe some people like that, but I definitely don’t. The starter gear looks horrible to begin with.

That doesn’t solve any problem, and thank you but I already know there are other ways.

I thought this game was built upon the premise that you can do anything you want? That you get rewarded for taking part in the open world? So why would I have to do a dungeon to get an exotic to drop? (any exotic, mind you. Not a specific one)

Loot is abysmal

in Suggestions

Posted by: dcypher.2590

dcypher.2590

I’ve been experimenting with different ways to get loot and one of the ways was world bosses with magic find (tested with 100%). Anyway 3 weeks of killing as many world bosses that I could on every reset and this resulted in 0 exotic pieces. I repeat 0. Even with horrible luck, a player should never feel this unrewarded for being a part of a living world. I also feel your horrible drop rates are meant to deter botters in spite of people who are actually playing and working towards things.

And the reason I say loot in general is abysmal…is because I’m looting level 80 rares with the same skins as level 1 weapons (what the..? What is so rare about that?)…that is completely backwards in my opinion. I don’t want this game to be like any other game, so don’t go there: I’m just saying it takes away from the excitement. Yea I know..transmute stones, cool story. To me that’s just an excuse for laziness in the design of gear.

Anyway, I suggest you fix this stuff. I’m not saying it is a problem for everyone, but it really just turns me off the game.

*Before the white knights yell at me, I’m not trying to say I want an exotic to drop every single boss..but 0 times in 3 weeks? Yea..that is not only bad, but it also makes invested time seem wasted.

Maybe it was added to generate suspense while fighting multiple mobs so you can make the goal of spamming 1 hoping to get a kill before your dead? Who knows really… just a bad mechanic in my opinion.

Or, alternatively, stop trying to force your minority view on the majority of players. It was made clear from the start that there would be no mounts. Now stop being a crybaby because you could not be bothered to do any research before purchasing the game.

This function is necessary… I understand all the crying over not wanting to be wow, but this game’s loot system is far from wow, so ninja’ing isn’t even a possibility. Also…helllllo…there aren’t even any dedicated roles, people would find groups almost instantly. Saves tons of time, meet new people, and get the dungeons/modes you need done without constantly spamming chat all day or posting on a web forum (gw2lfg.com)..

I mean you guys are innovative, at least that’s what you are trying to do with this entire game, right? Be innovative? Well, you can’t be innovative while converting back to ancient-mmo ways.

And for all those who say..just need to be a little more social..that’s not even it. Case-in-point is the whole creation of this outside source just to get GROUPS! People are forced to create their own lfg tool because of Arenanet’s failure to implement one.

Now, I apologize for a little 4 day necro on the thread but I didn’t feel like creating a new one to make the same point. I’d really would like to hear what ArenaNet’s view on this situation is because I feel it’s quite detrimental.. especially when dungeons are one of a handful of things to do at max level, so they are important to be running.

Buy Orders Lower Than Vendor Price

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

dcypher.2590

I love the game, play it everyday, but this is a question that I’ve been pondering for some time now. Why is it even possible for someone to place an order for something at a lower price than the vendor price?

We all see it from time to time on items. And it always seems like it’s one guy who ordered 1000 of something. It’s also completely impossible to sell it at a lower price, the game even tells you that. So why is it still possible for people to order things at a lower price?

Basically..it just mucks up the system. Makes it so people can’t properly utilize the buy order feature because someone else has already plunged it down below the threshold at which it is even useful! It’s quite annoying. And it is also something that seems fairly easy to fix given that they already have it blocked from the selling lower than the vendor price side of things.

Are there any plans to fix this? While it is not gamebreaking, it just feels broken when I see it. Let me add that this is not a huge glaring issue, more of an annoyance.

Thoughts?

I like being able to have time to look at something and solve it, which you don’t get the chance to do here. That’s a disappointment to me, but I’ll just hope your team can find ways other than racing to make a puzzle captivating.

From a scale of 1-10 I’d rank it about a 6. The scenery is awesome, the puzzle,or lack-there-of, is just not.

I call my avatars “toons” and have no plan on changing that. I certainly would need to get my head checked if I started referring to them as people.

Hey, I love the game, am having a blast. My suggestion is that the trading post should have a preview item function. It’s hard to justify spending certain amounts on gear that I have no clue what it looks like, especially because most of the icons are generic. Have a good one!

I know they are busy with a lot of important stuff, I just feel this is just as important. These people are literally running rampant doing whatever they feel like.

*Also, seeing how many people are doing this, and how often I come across it..really makes me -feel- like I am playing a game that is broken and has no control.

Yea so the botting going on in the Dragonbrand server is ridiculous. I’ve reported these people DAILY and they are still in the same spot doing the same thing.

I am inviting a Dev to come right now to the broken bridge in Halacon Cataracts in Kessex Hills on the Dragonbrand server (not overflow) and witness these people and how they are obnoxiously exploiting your game systems and botting with no regard for anyone.

I have reported these people on a daily basis and nothing has been done. And quite frankly, I’m sick of it. I’m sick of seeing them powerlevel while I am out actually following the rules. This isn’t QQ, because I’m not jealous… I am just disappointed that this issue isn’t being taken seriously.
