There are 3 threads on this issue right now (on first page).
I worry that the focus is divided.

Dejay, Valkyriez, and Deimos Tel Arin should get together and better pool their efforts.

true it is in the thread but this is quick and to the point, you have to read through a wall of text to get to that part. he might have other good points, and to be honest there are hundreds of unused good ideas from these forums since release(and even beta) they haven’t used so maybe it’s just wasted effort either way

entertaining video, people need to keep in mind that while yes 1v1 skilled vs skilled fights are good it doesn’t take away from the entertainment value of beating 2+ people who are mediocre. It’s a different skill set.

If you play spvp/wvw/or pve, doesn’t matter. Anets are seemingly having problems with their workload and time frames, but what would you prefer?

Hopefully we can give them some perspective. I can’t see them have the same success with an expansion that they had with their launch sales the way people feel currently.

Did the OP come in here claiming to be the best warrior in the game, with top notch footage? kitten no, he made a video of something he enjoyed.

Whoever claimed that he was "bringing balance to the discussion, because he was afraid the OP’s ego would go spiraling out of control, I can smell your backtracking from a mile away, you came in trying to be an kitten for no reason and got called out on it.

For people that “surely care about the community” you guys have no problem jumping on and belittling someone who is trying to add to it.

agree – just standardize the glory something like 100 points on the board = 50-60 glory. so a win would be 250-300 glory.

people pump out hundreds of good ideas on the forums, but they haven’t implemented even 1%, why is this? it really makes me sad the potential being wasted

Anytime i see an ele they usually are pretty skilled. Being as most avoid the class when it comes to pvp you’ll find more pro than nooby ones.

Thief you’ll find alot of bad ones cuz of all the noobies who think thief can make them 1hit everyone.

Guardians i never see kill anyone but i never see get killed unless 2+ppl r fighting em.

Warrior i see slaughter any thief in their path.

Mesmer i wouldnt consider op but they r real tough to kill.

Engineer are incredibly epic (WUUUT you serious?) Yes engineer. You find the right engy and he will kill everyone in a 3v1 fight.

1) nope, not a huge skill gap as full bunker ele contrary to popular belief, you only have a few rotations and they are painfully obvious
2) true, but mesmer is right up there – people don’t know how to fight them and get gibbed with their glass build and try to play one
3) gaurdians are strong, but depending on the dps hitting them eng/ele and even ranger can do the same thing
4) maybe if they aren’t glass 100b, thief is usually a joke on my shout/adren burst warrior but they are pretty strong duelers
5) one cc without a break and a mesmer will drop quick, they do no dps with a staff out
6) eng are good.. at point nut or hiding uptop nading but still needs some love, gimmick specs need to go

@ op – your title should read – gimmick class 1, gimmick class 2, gimmick class 3, gimmick class 1, gimmick class 4, gimmick class 2, ect

(thief burst/100nades/glass warriors/shatter mesmers/full bunkers/trap rangers specifically come to mind)

You get exp from wvw, why not spvp? make it however slow you like, but I have zero incentive to go grind to max level + gear up just to wvw or experience end game. The story is boring and tedious. Plus it might get some pve guys over to the mists to level their alts since they have already experienced the storyline.

maybe even give tokens for pve gear that is beginner level at max level so it doesn’t effect the die-hard pve’rs (cause they will cry) and make it however slow you like, as long as it is there

I’m not going to say thieves and mesmers are overpowered, but I do feel they have poor class design. Relying on stealth + gibbing + AI for pvp isn’t fun and allows bad players to be moderately successful which can be frustrating.

How do they have no escapes? Both of these classes are usually bunkers, but anyway this isn’t the point of my topic. Please read what I have written below.

Plenty of classes use quickness, stealth, stability etc. to stomp but those abilities can still be countered. (or the player killed)

The point is two abilities are completely immune to any sort of interruption/damage. It doesn’t make sense, it isn’t fun and it makes for extremely poor interaction/counter-plays. A player should not be allowed to stomp with one of these abilities active.

dejay, it is fair to say not all profession should be equal, and that ele need mobility to survive as glass cannon.

maybe your solution is best, but i feel that part of the skill of playing glass cannon should be assessing the situation before engaging and deciding if it’s worth it. if you can just rtl and disengage from all situations, then there is no reason to think twice before engaging. also, this would easily solve the orb problem without resorting to special-case rules for specific skills.

no dude, there’s no such thing as a full glass cannon ele. Try it for yourself and see how fun it is.

You need 20 defensive traits, 2 cantrips, and ride the lightning minimum as any ele spec. or sub out a cantrip and 10 traits if you use soilders amu. and you’ll still have subpar burst or sustained dps AND subpar survivability unless you count running away.

they aren’t going to do it, sorry mang. every class is pigeonholed atm including ele. If they nerf dagger offhand or bunker too harshly there’s nothing to turn to. That’s why people complained about nerfs to bunker nerfed other specs as well

honestly I think without ride the lightning nobody would really take an ele over gaurdian, the biggest perk is the mobility in using the class with this conquest restricted game play

And yes, it is a teleport skill as it brings you from one place to other instantly. It doesn’t give swiftness, it takes you where you want to go in a flash. You can even cross gaps with it – something that other teleport skills can’t even do.

nah just dont let them use it with orb. ele is a really weak class without going full bunker. Just like thieves rely on stealth to stay alive, non-bunker eles rely on mobility to survive. you are pretty much required to spend at least 20-30 defensive traits with at least 2 cantrips to survive long enough to do anything

has alot to do with the bunker – burst – condi meta, anything else just feels underwhelming

increase gaurdian base hp by 6000

reduce engineers base hp by 5000, remove tool kit, net shot to 20 sec cooldown

increase trap initial damage by 200% for rangers (scaling with condi damage opposed to power)

necros now immune to conditions, auto attack removes 2x boons, no longer has damaging abilities, increase base hp by 10,000

I don’t get this, why does everybody hate the Elementalist? Every other class can also use their weapons movementskills while carrying the orb, I personally find especially Rangers a lot more annoying since they also can evade all the time, it is much harder to catch a ranger carrying the orb than it is catching an ele.

The players that are happy are in game playing.

Those of us who are happy and enjoy the game rarely come to the forums, and post even less.

I’m enjoying GW2 loads and I know all the rl friends I got into GW2 since launch are all still playing and all still enjoying it.

The PvP community is already a minority of the player base, and the disgruntled forum complainers are a minority of a minority player base… so.

Yeah the game is healthy, just like ArenaNet’s parent company’s stock price.

you guys act like vanilla wow’s world pvp wasn’t extremely fun. don’t talk about gear grinds either, sure, some guy with a hand of rag had an advantage but the way numbers scaled you still had a chance if you outplayed him. not to mention pvp at low levels still existed. then bc came around and arena was fun for awhile. Then I was out because it got repetitive and I wasn’t fond of the new skills. But the point remains.

it’s kind of sad I actually think of AV as a fun and dynamic pvp map now in comparison

NO ONE had a chance against my rogue one shotting them unless they were fully geared BWL+ tank for their guild in WoW vanilla.

So I’m not sure where you are coming from but WoW was built on one-shots which evolved into stun-fests later on in arena.

maybe if you head the best gear in the game vs someone in greens, even still if you so happen to not get that one shot a spriest/mage/ hunter can still beat you even at 10% life

and ofc cc became dominant, only because it was impossible to kill someone without a perfectly set up cc chain after resil. I played non cheese comps in the top 10 of every bracket on both my mage and warrior in bc. sure they had hard counters and soft counters, but it was still fun and rewarding.

unless you played a warrior in vanilla, you could still have fun in world pvp in blues. and 98% of the time if someone had the best gear in the game they were dedicated to pve and sucked. rewatch some old footage of vanilla pvp heros they all played in kitten gear except the guy who made world of paladincraft and that hwl chinese warrior

I enjoy MMOs because of the constant evolution.

This game (and game-play) is evolving so slowly it feels like watching paint dry.

Hell, we already have such a limited number of abilities and viable builds yet there seems to be no changes in sight.

When you have such a shallow game, at least make regular changes. I don’t want to be doing the same shmuck for months on end.

ontop of only 1 game mode (the least popular in any other game) + no real reason to play it

yeah, that’s about it. 6+ months for 1 minor meta change, a few kittenty maps of the same mode, and reverting paids back to beta

if it wasn’t fun before, why would it be now. people aren’t going to come back for this.. then we have to wait another 3 months for another “big” pvp patch? lol

as much as this forum cries about eles being op, realistically, without RTL nobody would say much. Most of my games are on ele, sure it’s almost impossible to die if you run away as full bunker but damage is non-existant. Having a 3-4k burst on a long cooldown with no sustained is worthless. It’s almost entirely because of the capture the point mode they are so good. Trap ranger – “mine has 2 need help” Ele – “kk lol be there in 5 seconds from keep” even if you lose the fight it will stay contested a few minutes before help from either team comes while still filling a good support role with heals/buffs. Nobody complains about eng invul because they are deemed low-tier and they get 2 of them in most specs.

all that said, I don’t play full bunker because it’s boring. all of my utilities are defensive, and atleast 50-60% of traits are defensive and I still get gibbed by thiefs/mesmers if my reaction time isn’t perfect while providing middle tier burst. still decent team utility though.

also mist form stomp doesn’t work vs thieves and mesmers (ofc)

I don’t mind the stability/immune/quickness stomps because you’re sacrificing a long cooldown to do so. ele mist form stomps? focus him after then. warrior quickness stomps? that means someone on your team isn’t potentially eating a 12k 100b. although rangers having a 5 point talent for a skill better than a utility slot seems off.

Only thing that bothers me is stealth stomp because there is no cooldown, but, if you know he’s there atleast your team mates can use aoe knockdowns so it’s not that bad.. adds a bit of strategy.

I rather this than requiring to be a full bunker to survive more than 10 seconds vs 2 players dps, some classes even 1 spike class can put you on defensive and worthless within seconds

So where is my refund? Not that it’s a big deal, but that’s false advertisement. They could of easily made money from hosting tournaments, having available cash shop offer spvp only skins(but still hold rank requirements) & renting custom arenas but keep them on the server public or private.

I’d even be fine paying a monthly fee for a good game, not 15$, but maybe somewhere between 5-10 for fast updates and hotfixes

Transparency issues obviously have been beaten to death, but it’s still true. Not only that, but it’s obvious what they really care about in this game. I don’t understand how you can have a hardcore pvp game (gw1) and then advertise the sequel to be it’s continued legacy and it’s main feature will be competitive pvp then completely ignore it.

The population can grow again.. but you have to tell us what you’re actually going to do. Yeah, sure, your maps selection is low but that’s the last thing we need. Plenty of games are fun and successful with just a handful of maps, the problem is every map is the same mode. Go on and say how you refuse to have a deathmatch style but you also said you were refusing to have a stealth dependent class in this game as well and we all know what happened there.

Yeah sure there is wvw, but we need a large scale push and pull style map available to pvpers. We need CtF, not pseudo CtF. We need small team deathmatch for quick entry. We need to CHOOSE what we play instead of hotjoin because if you don’t play 8v8 (on a map made for 5v5 wtf?) games are always filtering in and out due to map changing and not being able to play on the same team as your friend(s).

Not every game should be WoW, I know, but how many of you can seriously get 4 other people with vent and decent comp to play at any regularity? sometimes you just want to hop on and play and it still mean something. Sometimes you want to just zerg (in an appropriately sized map).

hammer warrior fits this pretty well honestly. I main d/d ele and hammer warrior has better dps than me unless I go a bit hybrid (even still it’s about equal trading burst for consistant) and hammer warrior is tanky if made correctly. basically you just run high AP with no crit and get crit from fury, ends up with 2k toughness and 26k life with extra utility slots since you don’t need quickness.

I honestly think they should rework thief to be the control class for pvp and possibly weakness + vulnerbility stackers for pve and do away with the burst reliance. this would make them gear more balanced instead of glass aswell. give him sustained average-slightly below avg dps. current thief is all gimmicks. kills fast dies fast, waits behind a rock for a good moment then gets out. that’s kitten especially with the way stealth is right now (broken)

nothing of that has to do with my concerns. Keep 5v5 balance I don’t care. I just want to be able to play without getting 4 other players online and still not pugging in a huge zergfest. I log on maybe 20 minutes at a time, look for a pick up group, see if my friends are online, and maybe get a few games a week. It’s completely kitten That’s not even getting started on matchmaking and ect.

Even with a ton of free time it’s a pain getting together a 5 man pick up group, MUCHLESS having a dedicated team online all at the same time. Even if you get a few games in when everyone is on, what if you want to actually.. keep playing the game? Spvp is NOT enjoyable. 8v8 + no coordination on conquest? get real. Plus throw in the fact that there isn’t any meta to force people to run bunkers and it’s an all out zerg fest. Direct Damage is already on the high side in the game.

So anyway two things(or tldr) :

1) Does anyone know the most active heart of the mists server for pick ups?

2) PLEASE add smaller bracket game modes or maps so I can play with a friend or two, or have a much easier time doing a pick up. I don’t care if it’s balanced around this – honestly. Some kind of matchmaking/ranking would be cool – but not even necessary. I just want to play the game.
