But that all being said, and with the current restrictions, if they had priced it at 400 gems, I would have been certainly bought at least 1. If it stayed account bound after use, I would have bought it at 600.
What are you basing your numbers on? It seems just as arbitrary as 800.
If more gathering tools are going to be introduced in the gem store, what the heck are they going to look like? We really going to chop down trees and gather berries with lava?
You might end up having to eat those words… :-/ I don’t think it’s any less realistic than picking your ore out of a molten lava pit (which all logic dictates should now be melted and mixed into the lava).
Engineers can only use rifles and pistols, so adding another class that can use that legendary rifle makes it even less exclusive and is unfair to engineers. They don’t get legendary weapon/bomb kits or turrets.
1. All things have a right to grow. The blossom is brother to the weed.
If that rule is taken at face value, then a Sylvari shall never eat. Anything.
Stewie Griffin? Is that you narrating?
I might consider buying this if it didn’t have the lava animation and made it so that mining was instantaneous and I didn’t have to manually loot the ore.
Instead of a flaming lava pick, I would like to see a super-efficient (maybe Asuran?) invention that manipulates the Eternal Alchemy to mine the ore simultaneously across multiple time dimensions and to use the same portal technology they already have to place it in your bags. Now that’s a time saver.
Wow that’s really low/pathetic.
Cunning and enterprising, though. Don’t people do this IRL? One example is bars (think free drinks).
Freedom of speech can’t be expected on a forum owned and operated by a business, especially when some posts can be hurtful to the business.
(edited by dinominator.9862)
However, math wise, they’re completely pulling stuff out of their rear end. There’s no basis for deciding that the average person uses 20 picks per day. The daily based logic is complete nonsense…
I wouldn’t expect that the pricing model is concerned with how many picks / day the average player uses. Making it 800 gems (or as someone figured out earlier, $10 US) seems like a nice, round number. It’s probably just an amount that they figure they could get for it based on what they’ve seen and what they know about their customer base.
I have to pick carefully.
ba dum, tsssssss…
I keep hearing that servers have their own TS. Where would I find that info? Is there a forum for each server somewhere? Im in Ferg Crossing.
Just to be clear:
Seems like you did really, regardless of how opposed your state of mind was, you became of likemindedness to those around you.
I’m of the opinion that when you’re in a commitment and working with someone to achieve certain life goals, that it’s not normal or healthy to be unaffected by arguments or disagreements that may arise. If you’re not affected it means you aren’t invested and likely don’t care. Am I missing something?
I have come across many official forms IRL that want to know my gender and race. Objective data is fair game. It’s how someone might use the data that could be inappropriate, but that has to be taken on a case by case basis in order to protect objective data collection. It’s the only way we have of gauging the world around us.
My thief, despite being a ‘cute’ (ugh) human has never been ‘hit on’. Maybe it’s her grumpy looks or those two knives as long as her thighs.
So is she “cute” or “grumpy?” I don’t think the two can coexist. From RL experience, I can say that when my lady is “grumpy,” so am I. There’s nothing cute about it. lol

No, just no, explain why she’s grumpy, before you declare to the world that it’s ok to placate and go home.
No one said anything about placation or submitting to anyone’s whims. :shrugs:

I’m not a brand loyalist, personally. IRL, I buy what I think is best at the time, though that’s mostly because I don’t have financial investments in those companies. If ArenaNet offered stock and I owned some, yes, I’d be a loyalist.
That said, I like the game so far and think it’s well done. Kudos. I think it makes a strong argument for buying a game from this company again in the future.
I play a human female guardian. And this community is so much better than WoW’s because it seems like everyone here knows that a female character they meet in-game is usually just a guy who’s playing a female character and not an actual female player. I tried a female character in WoW and some random dude came up to me and started hitting on me. It was pretty….. weird.
That happened to me in GW2. It was in the human starting zone, right after completing the intro. Dude started dancing next to me and passing complements. I didn’t have more than maybe 10 minutes invested in the character at the time, so I just deleted it. That’s how weirded out I was (didn’t want to deal with that long-term).
My next female character might be named “Steve,” and “Steve” will be packing… a rifle! In case someone misinterprets the first clue.
Anyway my first character (and main) is an Engineer because it was new, interesting, and relates somewhat to what I do IRL.
Just came across a character in Harathi Hinterlands near the Wynchona Rally Point Waypoint that teleported right on top of a tree node, farmed it, and vanished.

Who says that only rich people have nice things? Almost anyone can walk into a shop and buy an expensive suit, or a car, or whatever. It doesn’t mean it was the best idea.
Point is, there are probably more than a few people with no money in the bank, but driving BMWs. You can’t judge by appearances.
Don’t discount also the fact that some wealthy people made their wealth from exercising good self control and making frugal decisions. Many people with a lot of money in the bank are not living celebrity lifestyles. They’re driving around in Hondas and Toyotas. Those people didn’t get ahead by squandering.
If you look at GW2’s humans they all look like fashion models, not what you average person looks like.
Agree.
Playing a female character in the game was fun until I got hit on and realized that some people assume I am a female player. That was too disturbing for me, and I felt like a deceiver. I deleted that female and have had a male main since. Much easier to connect with the character and get about my business.
Sorry, OP, that doesn’t help answer your question though I suspect you weren’t going to get an accurate statistic on the forums anyway.

What’s a PoV modifier?
Conditions are not softened by armor, which is a plus in my view.
This is what you’d be entrusting your mail delivery to:

Well I guess they could be catapulted over large distances, Pingu style.
So the idea behind a pigeon is that it flew some distance to get to you. What’s a penguin gonna do? Waddle its way across Tyria?
^ He has no money, though.
I’m impressed you made 39 levels without figuring out karma vendors.
Every time you complete an event and get a renown heart on the map (solid yellow) you can talk to that NPC and buy things from them with karma points. They’re not like regular vendors where they sell the same old stuff. Each karma NPC has unique items, so you need to visit a bunch of them.
My opinion, if you don’t have a lot of money, don’t worry about buying armor right now. Use what you can find until you’re level 80, then farm for what you really want.
For now, go do some events, sell some junk, and fix your armor. Work on leveling and save your money.
My $0.02:
Just as humans eat animals which are unrelated to us, Sylvari can eat plants which are not descended from the Pale Tree. It would only be cannibalism if they ate each other.
Regarding the ethics of eating other plants, well, that’s just silly. Organic matter is nutritious regardless of it being plant or animal based. Animals eat animals and plants eat plants. Plants also eat animals, and animals also eat plants. It doesn’t matter.
Why should a sylvari feel remorse for being part of nature also? Why should a sylvari impose superficial restrictions on himself above what nature already has? Why should a sylvari deprive himself of the same bounties nature provides to everyone else?
They can’t have kids, unless adopting them, but I don’t see why Norn/human relationships wouldn’t exist. Except height, they look the same. They only problem is the Norns physical strength, they sure have to control themselves if they get down with a human.
That said, I wouldn’t mind having a Norn lady, whenever you hug her, you are in marshmallow heaven.
If by marshmallows you mean rock-hard thighs and abs, then yeah, sure
I don’t agree they look the same. Human females get more of an hourglass shape and softer curves with a triangular midsection, whereas Norn ladies have a more stocky build. They have much more powerful legs, arms, chests, shoulders, neck. Also the midsection is not triangular.
(edited by dinominator.9862)
Ever drop a broomstick in a bin? That’s what a human male / norn female encounter would be akin to.
… that is, if you could get past the stench of dolyak.
I wouldn’t mind the option, though I think the human race of Tyria is portrayed as highly civilized. I don’t see them sporting body markings personally.
That what you said is so not cool…
Like it or not, the humans of GW2 are more advanced than those of GW1 (as someone pointed out, by 250 years). Tattoos are not prevalent in their culture anymore. They may exist as curiosities and artistic expressions among some, but they’re not mainstream. In a land of nobility and villagers, tattoos are not commonplace.
I agree that we don’t have to base fantasy games on reality. That’s a valid point. Though since the human race in GW2 has already taken a certain direction, I think it would be awkward to give them body markings now. It would be incongruent.
Imagine the Queen of England inked up like Eir Stegalkin o.0
On second thought… don’t.
You guys might want to look at some of the original Krytans. It should still be culturally relevant.
Can’t say that I’ve seen a single NPC around Divinity’s Reach or Queensdale that looks like that. Not that I remember, at least. Plenty of farmers, scholars, merchants, and nobles, though.
Have tablets and phones replaced consoles, PCs, and media set-top boxes yet? Methinks one day soon the video game industry will have to come to terms with that. Things like HDMI output, bluetooth, and especially DLNA over WiFi make it so that a tablet/phone could become a media gateway for the whole house one day. I think that’s going to happen and when it does, video games will suffer a regression in graphics quality and complexity for a while until the hardware catches up to current PC standards.
… but then where will PC standards be by that point? Seems like it would be a never ending cycle of catch up.
For retail customers and home users, desktop PC sales have declined. I think PC performance will eventually become a moot point except for commercial/academic use.
BTW, my generation will staunchly cling to what we know and like. I think it’ll be the younger generation of consumers (those in high school and college) that will more readily accept the changes. They do things differently. For instance, they don’t sit down to watch TV with undivided attention. They watch TV in the background while being online and doing other things.

^ BTW, lest I make myself seem anti-social :P, I do like to help out others and join in on interesting happenings in the game. I even ask for help from time to time. I just don’t run with others while leveling and doing my story.
I’d be okay with traits that made turrets more powerful, but I definitely can’t get behind the notion that they should be the most powerful abilities by default. It takes away from the engineer, as a character, if all his damage is done by deployable devices. Where’s the combat ‘skill’ and prowess in that?
I mean, we’re not trying to be those other guys that wear heavy armor and get by on just auto-attack, right?
Not that spamming 1-5 for a living doesn’t have its fun moments…

An LFG option would be great for people like me. I don’t take the time to make in-game friends personally, preferring a more solo PvE style except for events, world bosses, and dungeons. I never was a guildie (I belong to a guild of two.. just myself and an IRL friend). In my case I would not be able to do dungeons at all without PUGs.
The problem with LFG is that it gets used as a means to speed-run everything for specific loot or rewards, which makes it incredibly difficult to find a group that actually wants to do a dungeon for the sake of the experience.
I feel that it’s better to have the option than to not. I just wish there were a reasonable solution to the LFG abuse problem.
I guess you disapprove of how most people look IRL, then. lol
I wouldn’t mind the option, though I think the human race of Tyria is portrayed as highly civilized. I don’t see them sporting body markings personally. Tattoos have their roots in tribal and ancient cultures which doesn’t fit the bill for the humans I see walking around Divinity’s Reach.
I think we should remove logic from video games. Although humans have an ability to reason, we often arrive at the wrong conclusion.
This has probably been asked a hundred times. Sorry in advance.
I have been coming across chests in the PvE open world which I cannot interact with. They are just there… like a part of the scenery, but without a purpose. No loot. No option to interact/open. Nothing.
These chests are usually guarded by NPCs. In this example pictured below, I found a chest underwater near the Brigantine Isles in Gendarran Fields. It was guarded by two Buccanneer Pirates. After killing the pirates (several times, since they respawn almost instantly) the chest never became lootable.
Am I missing something? I’m starting to feel a little ripped off. lol
Thanks!
