They don’t need an internet gambling license because it’s not really gambling.
Well said, this is a great thread full of many opinions, maybe we can get them to respond or lay off the RNG some
I think the only way they’ll lay off of the RNG is if they notice enough players laying off of the RNG. As long as it remains profitable (more so then just selling the items), I think it might stick around.
And what about the discrimination factor for those that can not gamble due to religion or some other social/cultural stigma?
Not valid. By the same argument you’d have to shut down everything that could be against someone’s religion or beliefs:
- liquor establishments
- casinos, race tracks, state lottery
- strip clubs
- places that serve certain foods
- etc. ad nauseum
edit: I forgot hospitals!
Bearzu, obviously people are willing to gamble. Who are you to make the moral judgment for them on how to spend their money?
I don’t think it’s the fact that people are spending their own money that you really care about. Cut the humanitarian crap. This is about YOU getting the skins without having to gamble.
Are you getting payed to make these kind of posts ? Trust me we get that your a casual guy probably playing this game 2 hours a week it’s OK BRO we dont judge. But please try to be atleast more convincing when comparing those things. Ingame SKILL vs RNG+LUCK+CASH if it gets too confusing I will kindly explain it to you via PM.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but items that augment skill (that is, items which reward actual stats or combat advantage) are only gained via “Ingame SKILL” as you put it (which, BTW, in this context “skill” could be read as “time,” since that’s what it really takes to get anything in an MMO).
The RNG gem store items should be nothing more than cosmetic and have nothing to do with skill.
Remember before release how everyone was all happy that GW2 would have stuff that would be sold as novelty, and nothing would be pay to win?
Well look now, there are people complaining for the sake of complaining because they can’t get their novelty stuff for free or for cheap.
No, consumers are attempting to make their voices heard because in a game where it’s all about the cosmetics for the majority of the player base people are being asked to gamble for a chance at cosmetic items rather than being allowed to straight-up buy them.
What’s the alternative? You can offer the cosmetics as a straight purchase, but then everyone has them and they’re completely worthless. You can maybe make them expensive, but then everyone complains about the up-front cost.
But that would ruin my immersion.
Brb, going for a dip in my full plate mail.
Isn’t that what happens in underwater combat?
@Midnightjade: Rytlock looks dashing in that photo.
If they gave us shaved Charr I would buy a bag of gems just for the laughs.
But what to do with the Charr…
full-body wax?
See I took it as you wanted free bikinis because you laid it out as a bullet point:
>make amazing swimwear skins
>don’t put them on the gem store
Do you not want mondo dosh?
Depends. What’s “mondo dosh?”
And what’s with trying to turn GW2 into The Sims with beach barbies?
(edited by dinominator.9862)
I thought PC game sales in general were down.
An Asura gets there first… come on Sylvari, that’s embarrassing!
- Trahearne says you lack personality
I’m just waiting for the option to have payroll checks direct deposited into the gem store. The kicker? You’ll have to buy the upgrade in the gem store to unlock the option!
Welcome and have fun!
The number only appears on your account name which is always going to be NoSoul.8593. You characters can have different/unique names and there is no number.
Interesting. Thanks!
But is an intangible thing taxable? Gems are neither real nor services. And since they are intellectual property of ANet and always will be, there’s no real transfer of anything for the money.
Some things in the gem store say they are limited in the description (eg. the new Lion Cub), so it makes sense that the ones that don’t probably are permanent.
That is, if you trust ANet tooltips

Well, one of you is right. I guess it’ll depend on how much money the e-tailers put into lobbying against it.
Gems are technically intangibles, so I wonder if it’ll apply. For that matter, a digital copy of the game is intangible, too.
How will the internet sales tax affect the gem store? I read somewhere that online retailers will be required to collect state sales tax if they gross more than $1M. I’m not sure if that’s final.
Will gem sales be subject to this?
- its name is unlike anything its mother would’ve given it (ie. “I Bring Killz” or “Deathbringrrr”).
Get that Norn some leathers and a Harley!
I don’t have any plans to buy them at the moment (there’s my disclaimer) but I’m curious what matches with the Khaki cargo shorts that were just released in the gem store. Most of the shirts on there are long-sleeve and very dressy. The only short-sleeve shirts are actually the sleeveless hoodies. I’d maybe wear them with jeans, but not khaki shorts personally.
I’m going on a tangent now but the idea of a sleeveless hoodie always fascinated me. It’s as if the wearer hasn’t made up their mind about whether it’s hot or cold, but tries to be prepared for both in a very impractical way.
I personally think, that they break down everything if they are anything like pitcher plant acid and such.
That makes me less interested in using a certain limb of mine on a Sylvari.
Hate to break it to you, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a Sylvari in real life to do that to. Maybe your in-game character will have better luck…
You could order an armor made of this:

In an alternate universe I just received a million infraction points for a tasteless reply and lost my forum privileges, but I feel incredibly satisfied.
I think it doesn’t but I just want to verify that GW2 is not dependent on it. I just realized something installed it on my system and I’m about to remove it (as well as the game that I suspect installed it).
Actually, the reason most Vegetarians don’t eat animals is because it is cruel to the animals to torture and kill them for pleasure. Plants, on the other hand, don’t feel pain and are incapable of thought, so it’s more acceptable to kill them for food.
Do you believe that the Sylvari torture their food and kill for pleasure? I think they eat for sustenance, personally.
So, my suggestion. Shut the forums down. There are fan sites that can wear the brunt of complaints, just like there was with GW1.
At least when the complaints are here there is some amount of damage control that can be done by ANet staff, even if it’s as simple as giving a reply. There isn’t much they can do about negative publicity on fansites or other independent sites. From that perspective, having an official forum makes a lot of business sense.
OP, are you trying to incite all those who spent lots of money trying to win a fused weapon ticket?
If you are, then this is a great troll
What often tears it for me is how dumb these posters often are. I appreciate that not everyone has had an education but many of them cannot even use basic English (actually it has been my observation that non-English speakers often use better English than native speakers) and instead resort to that highly irritating and dumbed-down text-eze language so beloved of the cell phone generation. I flatly refuse to communicate with them, that is how irritating I find it to have to ‘translate’ their dribble (and in world often mute them rather than have to ‘listen’ to it).
Conversely, not everyone needs a wall of text to convey a simple thought. ‘lol’ suffices to let others know you are amused, as do ‘haha’ and ‘funny!’ I shouldn’t have to write a complete sentence for that, especially on a game forum. No one cares that much that I am laughing in order to want to read about it in detail.
Save proper grammar for situations like school, work, sending a letter, etc. My only gripe is when people think it’s okay to use internet/“txt” jargon in formal communications. Most people know better; it’s not an educational deficiency. They just aren’t mindful, or they simply don’t care to be ‘proper.’ After all, who’s judging on a game forum? Certainly no one of any importance in most other forum users’ lives. We’re mostly a collection of strangers posting under pen names.

Here you go warriors… now you can have everything:

Oh wait, I’ve got one for the mesmers, too:

:-D
Guess you’ve never been to a town hall meeting.
From my experience & research, I’ve learned these are best:
You’re really looking to open up a can of worms by asserting that certain builds are ‘best.’ They’re best for whom?
Vonnix,
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide/first
Watch the first video, ‘GW2 Combat System 101’. It’s short and sweet, easy to follow, and teaches the synergy between damage/control/support skills. Hope you find it useful as I did.
Guardian as my main.
Engineer is my secondary as well. What’s this with guard-mains having engie seconds?
I guess maybe because the game is such a face-roll with guards, we want to experience some of the pain others feel.
I can understand this. I created a Warrior alt (level 14 currently) and am amazed at how different the gameplay is. I don’t like how gear-dependent the warrior is, and find myself carrying around tons of weapons and constantly running for repairs. There doesn’t seem to be much of a challenge to figuring out what skills to use. With the engineer I feel like the wrong skill at the wrong time has more of a cost associated with it (which I enjoy as a PvE’er).
I rolled an Engineer when I bought the game and that’s what I’ve stuck with so far.
They just had a free trial weekend (April 19-21). Now the game is on sale for $39.99 until April 28th. I expect many new sign-ups.
Alt-tab? Wow… no one knows what a phone order is anymore.
This actually happened a couple weeks ago, so unfortunately I don’t remember the details. I was just going through my screenshots folder and remembered that I had caught this.
I was in the downed state but physically located somewhere between land and water (a short distance off the coastline). My downed abilities failed to show on the skill bar and I was unable to move or fight back.
Screenshot attached.
I have to imagine that the developers have very busy schedules between their full-time jobs (maybe even overtime) and their personal/family lives. That some of them still manage to play the game as gamers do is amazing.
Interesting-
So the dyes on the gem store are not just color dyes, but actual texture replacements which add more resolution / detail, like an “HD” texture pack in some games.
Just something I notice often but never really gave it much thought-
Why do players post links to weapons or armor (presumably items they own) on general chat without any words or explanation? Is the intent to advertise a for-sale item?
Thanks!
If archers need a place to store arrows then marksmen need a place to store cartridges.
As a Norn, Asura are basically too small to in anyway see what they are wearing. They could be wearing full T3 Asura gear and have a legendary, or they could be wearing a paper bag and carrying a toothpick. Always makes me laugh. I wonder if they know?
Well, according to the female Norn guarding Jora’s statue, she can’t even tell the difference between male asura and female asura.
The Asurans have the same problem with Norns. So don’t worry. They are all knees to them and not very pretty ones.
Q. Two Asura stand in front of a Norn. What does the Norn see?
A. Boots! Magic find FTW!!!
@ShiningSquirrel
Some members never comeback or leave for months at a time. An active and lively guild is important for most guilds I’ve been in. Otherwise, you’re just a random group of people.
Read my post again. If you have a guild of 400+ people and don’t even know who they are, they are nothing but a random group of people.
Guilds should be made up of friends or people you like to play with, not random people invited by spamming chat. If you feel you have to delete someone who has not been on for a few months, then they where not your friend, and you really did not know them, so why where they even in the guild in the first place? just to fill a spot?
Forget +1, how can I +1000000 this post???
