Let’s not forget that locked chests can be sold on the TP. Enterprising individuals with a supply of chests could benefit from this surge in demand for chests and keys. The losses of many become the gains of a few.

I have a feeling there will be a wave of similar sentiments, Catisa. I’ve noticed that’s how the suggestions threads usually go ;-)

No worries though, a bad idea is a bad idea. I’m curious how it gets abused in other forums.

I propose a positive reinforcement system to promote helpful comments and to bolster the sense of community on the forums. We already have ‘infraction points’ to punish offenders. The system has been helpful and I think the incidence of negativity has gone down somewhat but it could be better if we were rewarded for particularly insightful posts. At a minimum, we can try to cut down on useless comments or posts completely irrelevant to the topic.

Perhaps there could be a ranking system? As ‘good’ posts are upvoted by forum users, it adds toward the poster’s forum score which appears on the left under his/her name. Moderators could even upvote particularly helpful or insightful posts which rewards twice as many points.

This way we can compete for helpfulness as a kind of achievement. It would also give us a sense of seniority among GW2 players who contribute here, though the person’s rank should not afford them any forum benefits over lesser ranking users in order to prevent abuse.

The system does not reward the quantity of posts, but the quality.

Sweet vid, I liked it! I thought you were going to die on that one fight where you forgot to put your turrets up but you rallied. Nice.

I don’t know why turrent engineers would be funny, really. When I first learned they had turrets I thought “oh, cool, I can have a Shaman in GW2.”

Just a thought— and a developer would have to chime in here for us to know the truth— but is it possible that the random number generator has some kind of bias? I don’t know if it’s seeded on system time, or noise from the sound card, or random pixels from the screen buffer or what… but there’s currently no such thing as a truly random number generator (though Intel is working on a hardware fix for that).

An interesting experiment would be something like this:

1) Get a couple hundred chests. Open the first 100 immediately. Count the number of tickets received.

2) Wait a bit.

3) Open 10 more chests.

4) Wait a bit.

5) Open 10 more chests. Repeat from step 4 until the remaining chests are opened. Count the number of tickets received this way.

Would there be more tickets received if you open the chests over a longer period of time?

Current price is 5 keys for 450 gems, so 3600 gems. That’s $45 I think.

To put it in perspective, that would buy you a whole expansion in WoW, or 3 months of game time.

Anet- you suck! You just cost me a big load of $ and gold!

Pretty sure you did that to yourself. Gambling is a problem.

They did not make any promises about how many chests you’d need to guarantee a ticket. They didn’t say “one out of every X chests is a winner.” They just said “rare” chance.

Some people will get one on the first try, but most will probably have to burn through stacks of these things to get a winner. Best bet (I made a pun!) is to just play the game and don’t worry about it. If you’re meant to get one, you’ll eventually get one.

Guild bounties/challenges and SMALL guilds

I’m all for increasing small guild awareness. I’m in a guild of two (just two!) currently and we’ve been coming to terms with the reality that we’ll never have most of the available upgrades or guild missions. I can live with that so long as we don’t lose the ability to play together or make progress in GW2… that’s paramount.

Smallest group size for completing dungeons

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: dinominator.9862

dinominator.9862

There’s a thread going on right now in the Suggestions subforum where someone asked for all small guilds to be dissolved. That got me wondering:

What is the smallest group size that is still able to complete all the dungeons in the game? Can it be done with a 2-player team or is it absolutely necessary to run 5-player groups?

I’m not asking if it’ll be easy or efficient. I just want to know that it’s possible.

Does the scaling system handle that?

Thanks!

Warnings make sense when you might not know you’re in violation of something. For example if the game had an unwritten policy forbidding foul language (just something you “should know” as part of the community) then one would expect an informative warning. The EULA makes it clear though, and since you have to agree to it to play, there’s no need for a warning.

Personally I never got into the looking “cute” thing. I can appreciate attractive character models and impressive armor, but dollhouse glamour and waxy skin ruins my immersion.

GW2 also seems to have a mix of asian style elements and what I call “western” ones, which I think makes the game sometimes feel at odds with itself. In the same game you can have a Steampunk Engineer and an Anime Elementalist.

By human standards, or by Sylvari standards? I’m sure they’re both pretty as far as their respective races are concerned, but in terms of what I would call pretty, I’d say keep the human. That’s what we relate to

I respect your argument, but by saying that healers are “erasing the mistakes of their allies,” you’re implying that things like armor and shields are handicaps. By your logic, an ideal player should never take damage. Therefore any type of absorption or damage mitigation is just another mistake buffer. We should be battling in nothing but our underwear!

My personal experience is that other players are not always available or willing to lend a hand when I go down. It happens from time to time that someone tries to revive me, but usually my a** is running back from the nearest waypoint.

You have an interesting point and I’m curious what you’d propose as a fix. Are you arguing for just the removal of downed state, or something else? It almost seems like you’d want to see a death penalty of some sort, like a resurrection sickness, but I’m not sure.

How good is someone at a MMORPG?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: dinominator.9862

dinominator.9862

I think how “good” you are depends on what your personal goals are in the game. If you can achieve what you want to achieve, then you are by definition a good player.

All classes are different so obviously one may do ore DPS than the other you cant have 100% balance.

I would like to add that too many people focus on comparing classes (damage output, etc.) and far too often neglect player skill and tactic, as well as teamwork, as rather significant variables in the equation.

Who the engineer is

in Engineer

dinominator.9862

Heh heh.
That is a very entertaining insight into the Engineer.
It should also be added that the Engineer is so bad in their imitation they fail to use most their skills effectively or even properly, causing self knockbacks, stuns and RNG.

Who needs RTL when you can lauch yourself backwards into the unknown and land flat on your face.
“That was deliberate, it was deliberate”

Well regarding the self-knockback with the Overcharged Shot ability, I really do think that’s realistic.

First of all, any gun blast powerful enough to knock over someone is going to also knock over the shooter. That’s just physics. Whatever force comes out one end is also going to be pushing back the opposite way (“recoil”).

Second, Overcharged Shot would be very OP if it didn’t have the self knock-back, IMO. It serves as a balancer.

I love the hand painted maps and loading screens. I admire the brush stroke effects every time I play. It is just a really cool art scheme.

Their use of transparency and brush strokes goes a long way toward blending out the hard/square edges of the UI frames. They did a good job of theming the UI to match the artwork.

installed the authenticator app on my phone, set it up, linked to account, no problem with any of that. Now I can log in to the game, and onto this site, without being asked to enter any code from the app? so what is the point of the authenticator? I was hoping it would give me peace of mind since I got hacked within the first week of the game’s launch, but nuuu, it just doesnt seem to work, at all. So I think I will unlink and uninstall. Unless there is something else I should do to get it to work?

The way it works is that it remembers the networks that you yourself authenticate. When you logged in from your home network (or wherever it is you play from), that network was saved in a list of known good networks. You can see the list if you go to your Account settings in GW2.

If someone else tries to log in with your username, they will probably not be on the same network as you. In that case, they will not be able to log in because they don’t have your authenticator.
