We really should change the topic title to “How to hand staff guardians in speed clears”….
I will not change the topic. With 2 exceptions (the 2 TA paths), the staff is a bad weapon for a guardian in a dungeon. Period.
I agree, staff is bad.
But you want people to understand your point of view, it’ll help to show some understanding of theirs. Casuals want to have casual fun, and that’s fine in casual groups. If the entire team is PHIW and doesn’t mind non-optimal builds, there’s no harm.
Not really being serious about the topic change, I’m just amused by the amount of bootie-ouched (avoiding a cat here) people don’t read and think that we’re talking about all parties.
But then, I read things like the post I’ve quoted above, I can see why they lump us all together as narrowminded elitists.
shrugs
We really should change the topic title to “How to hand staff guardians in speed clears”….
Haha, running with guildies is always the best option. Unless your guildies suck. Then join a better guild :-)
The first time I did AC with my wife was similar. We did p3, and put up an lfg (back in the old days, on the gw2lfg site) saying it was our first time. Someone exp joined, and then left we cause we didn’t know to stack spider queen, but eventually we got a group of people, mostly other newbs, that were willing to push through everything. We failed to defend the collectors about a dozen times, but finally made it through.
After a few goes at Collie Rumbletard we finally beat him. This was at least 2 hrs since we started the dungeon.
My wife and I dc’d at the moment he died and missed out on the rewards. Very sad. Much lame. So poor.
It takes longer with an inexp/poorly-prepared group, but it’s totally doable. Especially after the last “balance” patch xD
And even without getting the rewards, I had fun in that group. It was an actual challenge. Too many people think everything should just be “stack and press 1”, since that’s all open-world is. The idea of paying attention and dodging/using utilities/etc while stacked is something they’ve never experienced before.
Anyway, this is rambley and OT.
Most (admittedly, not all) of us “elitists” have absolutely no problems with inexperienced players, or even the “Play how I want” crowd.
What annoys us is when these people join our speedclear runs and don’t have the first clue when it comes to doing a speed run. Things stop being fun very quickly.
To the PHIWs that stick with groups that they’ll actually have fun in and not prevent the rest of the group from enjoying the run…we love those guys.
Personally, I don’t mind getting new people, even with “bad” builds in a PUG. As long as they listen, pay attention, and aren’t allergic to teamwork, it’s a nice change of pace from my usual group that just blows through dungeon after dungeon, night after night xD

This is just part of the build balance changes. Adelburn has a new mechanic that corrupts your client data if you run AC story in zerker gear.
This is to prevent elitists from running the first dungeon of the game and provide a “smoother transition from Open World and Living Story PvE to experiencing dungeons” for less experienced players.
Well, I’m only 12, so I don’t really know what entitlement means, but that guy was a poo-poo head.
When you start running dungeons, this is true. It’s way more fun to play how you want, comfortably learn the dungeons at your own pace, use the playstyle you’ve been learning in open-world PvE, etc. It doesn’t matter if it takes an hour to do a path of AC, it’s all about fun.
Forgive me if this is sarcasm. But no. I have yet to encounter a group of new players who randomly did what they wanted, died repeatedly, then went “That was fun”.
Ive started pretending to be new on an alt char just to observe and most of those 100-250ap players LEAVE. And that is STORY MODE AC. Ive watched a group get stuck in the beginning of ACs and disband after 45mins because they couldnt handle the crappy spider spawns.
No sarcasm intended :-) If their builds are so poorly suited to dungeons that they’re wiping a lot and encountering tons of difficulty, they might start to see the light and change things up. Many (obviously, we see it daily…) come here to complain and refuse to adapt their playstyle or improve their skill level, but there are many others who move forward and try to learn to do better.
Or they give up, which is fine. Dungeons aren’t for people who give up when they meet a challenge :-P
Personally, I viewed my early difficulties as a reason to learn my utilities and skills better, work on on dodging and reflexes, timing aegis, etc. After I got those down, I started learning how to improve might/vuln uptime. You gotta have that drive to do better to be a good party member.

Picture is related.
how boring would this game be if every player/profession would play the exact same spec. Optimized – yes. But boring.
When you start running dungeons, this is true. It’s way more fun to play how you want, comfortably learn the dungeons at your own pace, use the playstyle you’ve been learning in open-world PvE, etc. It doesn’t matter if it takes an hour to do a path of AC, it’s all about fun.
After your 600th AC run, you start looking for ways to speed things up. That’s where most of us are at, and which is why many people on this forum don’t like party members that just slow down the runs by doing any/all of the things listed above.
If you want to have casual runs, great! Join casual groups, it’s all good. We want to have fast runs, we join speed-clear groups. Everyone’s happy.
Unfortunately, many players (on both sides) refuse to see the other’s perspective, and it leads to much bickering about nothing :-/
Are you running a zerker build?
This post gets made several times each week.
They haven’t even acknowledged the problem, much less shown any interest in fixing it.
Don’t get your hopes up.
The whole Alphard bug made a huge statement. After the patch, I got infracted for a forum post asking if the change was intentional or a bug. Several others made similar requests. They refused to comment on it, acknowledge it, anything. Then, stealth fix (months later) to revert the change. So yep. It was a bug.
They don’t seem to like admitting that there are flaws in their product, and don’t seem to realize that vast majority of us don’t care that there are issues in the game, but would just like to see a response to issues that get brought up several times each week. They don’t need to fix everything right away, but I wish they’d at least fake the appearance that they give a kitten.

MF is OP, doe. Need those blues and greens so I can get….more….MF.
hmm.
lol, yeah, I can’t say I agree with ridiculing to get results, but godkitten do I understand the frustration that causes it. I try to be helpful and point out some alternate perspectives, start a dialog, show them that I understand their frustrations and suggest ways around it.
Makes me sad when they just reply with more blind rage, completely ignoring the entirety of any helpful feedback.
At the end of the day, a lot of folks just want to Q_Q. Can’t really do anything to help them :-/
“I play how I want and everyone else should play my way too!”
You can also take a look at the 2 stickied posts at the top of this subforum that talk about how to find groups that are willing to teach these runs.
Should get to the armory.
Ignore the troll guys. We’ve tried hard enough here, and are getting nowhere. Just let the mods clean it up after the weekend.
The bone wall bug seems to happen a lot more, too.
Jeez format your stuff please. I refuse to read, but i bet it has nothing meaningful info in it, just toxic rambling.
Same. I skimmed here and there, and all I saw was rambling rage. He’s either trolling or has no interest in actually discussing anything.
Did you even lurk around here for a while before deciding to write your complaint?
Doubtful. These are his first posts on the forum and he started a new thread instead of using one of the other 12 with the exact same content in their first post…
(edited by dlonie.6547)
Ok, you apparently have no interest in discussion or trying to resolve this. You just want to whine and complain.
Oh well. I tried. Have fun raging, hope you’re getting something out of it.
Hey purple, Alphard just reset to 100% on my party when she hit 50%. Still broken.
A present for OP:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Stacking-skipping-no-fun/first
This guy is also interested in casual runs. Friend him and ask him about that Stay Focused guild. Do runs with him. Make your own guild. Lots of options besides trashing other peoples ways of enjoying the game.
Great, OP. I’m genuinely glad you found a group to play with how you want. I wish you wouldn’t come here and insult us for playing differently, but honestly we’re used to it.
Can you do me a favor? Click through the other 10 threads on the front page of the dungeon subforum where people are complaining about how there aren’t people who don’t skip and give them the name of that guild?
Should we be making a list of these guilds in a sticky to refer people to when they come here to trash us?
Nobody’s saying ignore the rest of the trait system, or other blast finishers or anything like that. What they ARE saying is: Know every aspect of your character and know when to which traits at the most appropriate time.
If you had to build a house, you’d use the most appropriate tool for each particular job, right? That only makes sense, yes? That is the Meta.
You’re looking at the situation like this:
Non-meta: Why can’t they make screwdrivers as good as hammers at driving nails into boards?
Meta: Why not just use a hammer…?
Non-meta: OMG why do you love hammers so much, there’s so many other tools out there, why do you just totally ignore them?In reality the Meta is simply saying:
Meta: Need to drive a nail? Use a hammer. Need to cut some wood? Use a saw. Use the appropriate tool for the situation. Not our fault ANet keeps giving us nails to hammer.
salutes This. Well put.
But if people want to experiment with other tools, go for it. It might be fun to drive a nail with a hatchet. Just don’t take a construction job and expect to get away with it.

Keltach, you’re right. You shouldn’t forced to play that way. Go find other people that want to play the same and go have fun playing the way you want. Start your own LFG for a casual run. Enjoy the game and have fun in your runs. It is possible with the right group, but you have to either make your own LFG or be careful to only join ones that are explicitly labeled something that is not a speed run. You got the short end of the stick on that one, considering that most LFG posts are for speedruns, but that’s just the way it is — none of us can change it.
We run meta and think highly of it because it suits our goals — fast, profitable runs. Some people are obnoxious about pushing it on others, but that’s just the way some people are. Let it go and go have fun in your game. Don’t let them win.
Play the game how you want, let us play it how we want. Our playstyles are non-compatible, so the best we can do is just stay out of each other’s way.
Blue ball of lightning
Leave AoE — Still oneshot!
“Kitten off, Belka!”
Heh, yeah. Especially after the patch! Now there is really no reason not to fight him.
Normally I’d troll a bit and egg this on, but I’m not feeling it today.
Look at it this way: There are two types of players:
Those that find speed clears fun and are trying to maximum profit per time, and those that are playing to have fun experiencing a dungeon in other ways. Whether that’s immersion in a storyline, the feeling of vanquishing a dungeon, etc etc.
The latter group often feels a strong connection to “their” build. They’ve put together a character that they feel suits them and how they want to play, and don’t want to redo their build and learn some cookie cutter meta build that isn’t what they want. I can understand that.
The speed run group knows the meta build is best for their interests: getting things done fast. They expect their parties to be performing at their best, know the mechanics inside and out, use the best suited attacks, skip time-wasting mobs that aren’t needed, etc etc etc.
The other group is more or less just playing to have fun with the sole goal of completing the dungeon in their character. They don’t want to change their build, they don’t care about maximum efficiency, they want the feeling of accomplishment for completing a dungeon “the hard way” — killing most of the enemies, not drastically changing up a build just to get more DPS, etc. Just play as you are, and have fun. Zipping through the dungeon in a blur, being dragged from boss to boss only to stack and melt them is not appealing, especially if you don’t know how to perform that playstyle well. There’s a lot of pressure and stress put on them in that situation, and it just ain’t fun.
These groups will never really get along in parties. Never will, and it’s useless to try to change each other’s minds. It’s like a religious argument. You can debate until you’re blue in the face, but you likely won’t make a dent in the other person’s viewpoint.
A speed runner is never going to want to be forced to always have slow run through a dungeon that they’ve completed a million times due to some horrible mechanic that is just there to slow things down. The thought of that sickens us.
A more casual dungeon runner is not going to abandon their build, their character, or their views of how dungeons should be played just over a debate. They will probably end up joining the speed run crowd eventually if they stick with dungeons long enough, but early on, they just don’t enjoy that playstyle.
And to the more casual folks, the active posters in the forum are mostly speed runners. Coming here and yelling that utilizing techniques that maximize damage and shorten run times are exploits will not be well received. Find another outlet for your frustrations, because you’ll just get flamed and trolled if you post here. Feel free to, but that’s how it’s gonna end up. If you think that posting here will be seen by the devs and make a difference, think again. This subforum is a red-post desert. Sure, there are a few red threads on the first page, and they are all either a) months (well, probably at least a year by now) old, or b) just have a mod/CC saying “ok guys, stay on topic”. Devs don’t pay attention to this forum, posts here don’t matter “officially”.
Again, a guild with the same ideals would be a great place to look for a place to let off the steam. Just like we have headaches from “bad play-how-I-want pugs”, you guys have to deal with “elitist scumbags”, and it’s frustrating for everyone. But venting at the wrong crowd is not going to get you anywhere.
tl;dr we’re all here to have fun. We differ in our definitions of fun. No amount of complaining, arguing, or sarcasm (from either side) is going to change how anyone defines a fun dungeon run. Live and let live, find like-minded folks to play with.
And for the love of god, everyone please stop making this same post in this forum 4x/week.
(edited by dlonie.6547)
Just having trash mobs drop anything would be a start.
I’d still skip them though. Plenty of blues and greens filling my bag at the end of a run already :-P
And BTW, Kholer already drops a chest when you kill him. I think the best idea I’ve ever heard was to make the optional bosses drop dragonite…
I’m really happy that I did the achievement with killing the chicken solo last week… wasn’t too hard and now it would be near impossible ^^
Do all achieves in a level 1 fractal :-}
Wish I had a higher fractal level :-(
The giant is pretty frickin’ cool looking, too

For that matter, people saying left/right at the Hodgins PUG buster.
Left as we come down the stairs? Or left looking at the map?
Say East/West — much clearer :-)
Also can you link where the devs posted that most trash mobs are meant to be skipped if such a post exists?
Is skipping an exploit? no, read sig link. If it isn’t an exploit and if it isn’t against ToS then everyone is free to do so.
edit: lol thread got sent to the trashcan
O.o sneaky sneaky anet….
In my guild I’ve personally seen people ask for “zerker and exped only” players to run with them.
So join a less kitteny guild?
Start your own LFGs?
Read the stickies at the top of the dungeon forums?
You can play how you want, just don’t expect to join groups that want a different playstyle and expect them to change for you.
But you’re not going to find many players that will full clear Arah. The mobs are meant to be skipped there. Think of it as a new type of challenge. Personally, I really don’t feel like I know a profession until I can use my weapon and utility skills well enough to reliably survive all of the Arah skips.
I’m not saying nerf the gear set, I’m saying make the other play styles just as useful.
The players have been literally begging for this since release. ANet replies “Would more Scarlet help?”
The only way I can see this being fixed is if they make major boss attacks, like Lupi’s aoe ability in phase 2, not reflect-able and to make it so that you cant just skip the mass majority of the instance.
You don’t realize that many of us like Arah the way it is. Just because you don’t enjoy the same playstyle as the groups you’ve encountered doesn’t mean the way they play is wrong. You just need to find a guild that shares your views and start your own LFGs with things like “casual run”, “full clear”, etc in the description.
It will open up room in groups for other play styles rather than “just run past this mob, then we stack here and burst the boss down.” Perhaps even make some mobs able to see stealth targets so that thieves don’t become the new “meta” class to play.
Just relax — the players you’ve been running with have been running the same paths for over a year. We don’t want to spend 4 hours clearing all of the trash in Arah, we want to have fun. And after the 600th run of the same path, fun doesn’t mean clearing trash — it means pushing ourselves to see how fast we can do things, how well we can coordinate, how much might/vuln uptime we can manage, etc.
Seriously, go post in the guild recruitment forum looking for a guild that does casual, no-stack, no-skip dungeon runs. You’ll be much happier, and won’t have to come here and tell us that we’re playing wrong just because we’re bored with slow dungeon runs.
Your playstyle is fine, and don’t let anyone tell you differently. But keep in mind that so is ours. It’s all a matter of finding like-minded party members.
Best of luck.
I just did an “experienced” (quoting LFG) pug AC 1/3.
With a condition ranger that longbow camped the burrows.
Also died on the way to spider queen.
Twice.
Is this the support group? Am I in the right room?
And for the record, I think the new dredge fractal has just the right amount of nerve.
NOTE: I am not a developer for ANet
ofc. You’re posting in the dungeon forum! :-/
This is likely the issue, and they really should just bite the bullet and refactor their ownership system to not be strongly tied to a single player. It’s been well over a year now.
Something like putting instances that have had all players leave the area/dungeon into an inactive queue. If the instance remains inactive for 5 minutes, remove it. In this way, the instance wouldn’t be owned by a player, but rather some watchdog that monitors instance activity.
Let’s just hope they learned something about going kittens-deep investing developer resources into LS horsepurr and continue putting some time into, yanno, maintaining the rest of the game…
Glad to hear about the crusher. That boss was such a joke xD
So by p3 JP still working, you mean lupi can still be skipped without losing rewards? LOL
Wow, one run yielded mediocre results? I’m overwhelmed by the evidence :P
It’s ok, they’re working on it.
lol
Please, please, please tell me that Rabsovich now drops AC tokens =D
I like to run PvP builds in dungeons, too.blah blah blah necro
With a name like that, it’s like you created this account just to necro threads.
If so, hats off to ya.
inb4trashcan, just run out of the arena (backwards past the bone wall towards the entrance). There’s a gap on the side of the bone wall, and when you pass through it the wall explodes and Belka will stay in her starting position. It also opens up the nothern bone wall, which used to let you skip her altogether >.>
But like I said, after a minute or so of her being stuck, the wall shows back up and she starts portaling around again when I do it. Someone else may know more….
maybe not being able to kick the host or something.
That’s the simple workaround I’ve been suggesting for months. At the very least, add some UI element to indicate who the instance owner is to prevent accidentally kick the owner when they sign off, etc.
Now that they seem to catching up of the backlog that built up during the LS clusterkitten maybe we’ll see this addressed? Only one thing is for sure, we won’t hear from anyone who actually knows anything about their plans on this forum.
Well, since they didn’t even put the bomb fix in the patch notes, we’ll just have to wait and see if it happens again. Your solos are the only time I’ve ever seen that happen, so looks like it’s up to you to find out.
Unless a dev wants to chime in on this thread.
dies laughing
Note: Devs, please make me look like a sarcastic prick and comment on this thread. Even just to say “Hello”. It would make my day.
