After the recent changes to Malrona (TA up boss), combined with the unreflectable projectiles that already existed in the game, the Wall of Reflection is a misleading skill name.
Please change it to something more appropriate, such as:
“Wall of Light and Maybe Reflection”
“Elementalist’s Bane”
“Wall of Temporally Decreasing Usefulness”
“Pretty Blue Rectangle”
You get the idea.
/sarcasm
Ok, the above was just too much fun to resist writing.
On the serious side of things, unreflectable projectiles are not a good mechanic. Reflection is one of the few utilities that is useful in PvE, and randomly making some projectiles unreflectable is terribly inconsistent and only serves to frustrate players.
I understand why it was changed — reflects are too stronk in certain encounters because a boss’s reflectable projectile damage is very high relative to its HP.
Why not scale the reflected damage to the players power stat? This would mean consistent/reasonable damage output from Wall without nerfing reliable projectile damage mitigation for the parties.

I would link you the two reddit topics about “unreleased game data”. But, you know… I’m being watched.
Oh, obviously not related but here is link to my reddit user: http://www.reddit.com/user/Wethospu_/submitted/
It sucks that they deleted your post shortly after it was created. It even lured in a dev and made him respond a few questions.
What? There was a dev in here?? O.o
Screens or it didn’t happen.
Eventually FGS gets tweaked too.
There is a quite big difference between being useful and being able to trivialize an encounter without much effort.
They’re sure taking their time
Keep in mind that it took 18 months to simply associate the Arah p1 waypoints with the correct bosses. If that’s our yardstick for fix timetables, we’ve got at least 3 years left before they revamp FGS.
I can’t believe I have been punished for helping someone.
Such inconsistence. So wow. Very amaze.
How the kibby was that an advertisement? O.o
So does this mean we can’t point folks to gw2dungeons anymore, either?
The point is that changes like this are encouraging higher levels of Berserker Elitism
Rather than expanding the need or even practicality of different build/gear structures
Gotta say, I don’t understand this argument.
A lot of people seem to think that the SQ change is going to force players to wear zerkers.
It takes way more than a glass cannon build to be able to stack’n burn the SQ now. It now requires glass cannons, skillful manipulation of mechanics, and specific party compositions.
You need to a) bait the first AoE, b) have enough damage to kill SQ before the second AoE, and c) have an ele for IB/FGS.
Experienced speed clear parties will still be able to cheese the encounter. All that has changed is that inexperienced players can’t just stack and burn anymore. They’re forced to fight out in the open and (gasp) learn the fight’s mechanics.
This idea that putting on zerker gear will magically make the fight easier is absurd. If you can’t beat the spider queen in PVTs, you won’t be able to in zerkers.
So unless you’re a premade, the new norm should be to just fight SQ legit. In this case, other builds are more viable than zerk, unless you know how to avoid damage.
The difference is that now zerk AND skill are required to cheese the fight. The old way only required zerk.

I like the SE boss (forget the name…) that more or less turns one player into a timed explosive/knockback, forcing them to run out of the group or knock the party into lava.
That’s one of the more interesting/creative approaches to counter the usual stack’n’smack fight design.
The new spider queen also encourages players to use range. Without a speedclear group and good ele, parties have to fight in the open. Since she now sprays the poison in melee range, it’s unfeasible to stay melee 100%.
Hehe, that was way faster than I expected. That vuln is OP. Very nice.
The cleric vid was hilarious, too. Just dance alpha to death.
Request for spider queen in lvl 35 greens in other thread.
Beautiful.
This forum is the best xD
How about Alpha with cleric ele water dagger AA only?
Do you really think that ANet’s vision of how bosses are meant to be fought by stacking ontop of the boss, dropping reflects like mad and smashing 111111111?
…Bingo.
HHR is OP, bingo too easy. Lucas, pls nerf.
Am I the only one here that knows that you can still solo face tank Spider Queen in straight toughness gear?
I just wrote this up before I saw your post: linky
Nope. It’s impossible to fight queen in anything but zerks. I need an aspirin.
O.o
O.o O.o O.o
>.<
My head is still reeling from this PUG logic.
Pugged AC today, only casual groups. First group (warr, 2 thieves, 2 mes, I’m the only 80 and one of the thieves is 32(!)) wipes at spider queen, after the first try the other mes says something about how all they’ve done is made the fight easier for zerkers. Then RQs, along with everyone else but me and the opener. One wipe, everybody complains that it’s too hard and quits. So used to be being carried.
Join another p1 casual pug. Other mes from last party joins. Mes wants to try stacking spider queen with lowbie antizerks and no ele. I say, “lawl, won’t work, but casual = whatever”. This should be fun. Yup. We wipe hard.
Starts complaining again about how making fight require attention just makes it easier for zerkers. “The devs want us to all just be zerkers”, etc. I stared at chat for a while, blinking and shaking my head. Trying to comprehend. Had to screencap (red: them; blue: me).
Opened 2300 gauntlet chances today. 4 favors of the pavillon + 1 recipe yay!
My wrist hurts just reading that O.o
At the end of the day, yes — tweeking Malrona was ok. How they did it was not.
The problem was that the poison buff + reflect was definitely OP.
But unreflectable projectiles are a bullkitten mechanic. All of them.
They could have removed the damage buff, made reflect damage sane, anything else. Instead, they broke the reflect mechanic.
Reeks of lazy design, they just took the easy way out.

Hate to break it to you, but….
At best, this post will be ignored. We don’t get red posts in the dungeon subforum.
At worst, well…I posted something almost exactly like this when they broke Alphard a few months back. I earned an infraction for daring to ask if the devs made a mistake.
I hope you fair better.
but hey, that was reverted a few months later, so maybe it actually was a bug!
It was nice to see that fix go in, but I still don’t see why it would have been so hard for them to just say “Oops, that was a mistake. It might take a little while to have fixed, but we will revert the change.”
It would make a much better impression than the “Shut up, don’t ask questions, keep it up and you’ll get banned” response that I got.
I asked in the most polite, friendly, understand way possible, too. Believe it or not, I wasn’t always a sarcastic pessimist on these forums. Come to think of it, that was the day that I changed my attitude on these forums. Haven’t bought gems since then either…If that’s how they want to treat their customers, I’ll be happy to just use their product for free.

plz tell us how you know developers meant for bosses to be kited
kthx
If you stack in front of Malrona without any reflect, you’ll die instantly.
The reflect doesn’t hurt her but it negates her only damagesource outside of her highly telegraphed poison.i can just dodge/evade that, without kiting her. the timing is incredibly easy to figure out. i usually run a full glass, no defense LH ele in this fight and stay entirely in melee. next?
dodging is kiting…
O.o Kiting is running around at range with a weapon so a boss can’t touch you with their attacks— like dragging a kite behind you in the park when you’re a kid. I’m talking about using evade frames and staying within range of the boss at all times. But ok, if that’s what you meant, I guess we agree.
Example: http://www.wowwiki.com/Kiting
kiting = damagemitigation
dodging = damagemitigation
“Kiting” typically means running around while the boss chases you.
“Stacking” means standing on top of boss.
“Dodging” is useful in both cases, but these three things are not the same.
plz tell us how you know developers meant for bosses to be kited
kthx

The projectiles are just as obviously telegraphed as the poison. As for stacking, well…
1) Stack in front on Malrona
2) Notice tell, dodge through her
3) Stack behind Malrona
4) Malrona turns around
5) Go to 1.
No kiting needed without reflects.

Making players guess how to advance in a path is a wonderful mechanic.
It says quite clearly in the top right what you are supposed to do. Reading is an exploit i guess.
It says they have to be killed by the traps? Or just killed?
Making players guess how to advance in a path is a wonderful mechanic.
Especially when doing things correctly still doesn’t work reliably.
gg ANet.
Any chance to get a fix on that ? I find no point of even trying to do p2 with these bugs.
Sure, should be fixed in about 18 months.
Thanks for the tips!
I’ve found illusionary swordsmen helpful during phase 1. They back off enough that they don’t get kicked. Usually all of them are still alive when I Mind Wrack after the phase 1-2 transition.
Maha, so wardens are ok during phase 3? I was hesitant to try it because bubbles. 6/4/0/4/0 is the other build I swap to a lot, so I’m definitely comfortable with that one. 5/4/0/5/0 also sounds like a good build I should start using when I don’t have a lot of mantra on my bar.
I think the suggestions to just use more mantras instead of changing my build is a good one. I kept blink on for bubbles and phase 3 AoE life-steals, but it hasn’t been that useful for me. When I see a bubble I reflexively throw out stability and just dodge out of it, and the phase 3 AoE is super easy to facetank with dodge + blurred frenzy. I think I’ll try out the daze mantra instead next time.
I’m on the fence about mantra of recovery. I like the quick heals, but they’re quite small and rechanneling a mantra during Lupi can be tricky. If I can keep some wardens out during phase 3, the passive heal from signet might be a godsend, though they’d probably get destroyed by AoE lifesteal rather quickly. I should also play around with Mirror healing at some point — the 2 secs of reflection might come in handy when I invariably fail to phase skip off of Frenzied Blast xD
Keep the suggestions coming, I’m really enjoying the ideas.
And while we’re at it, will riposte let you escape the dome? I know it works on the archer bubbles in TA, so there’s a chance.
So I’ve started taking my mes into Arah a lot lately, and actually found it to be a very survivable class for Lupi fights (Blurred Frenzy FTW!).
However, my build is absolute crap for Lupi. I’ve been running a 6/6/0/2/0 (III,VI,XI/II,IV,XI/0/II/0) mantra build, but I keep healing signet/mantra of concentration/feedback/blink/time warp on my bar for the fight, and only one mantra doesn’t really make good use of my build.
Any suggestions for other traits that might be useful for Lupi? I could probably drop down to a minimum of 5/4/0/2/0, leaving 3 points to put towards something else.
Stealthing didn’t work for us last night, but we had some newer people who might have kept attacking and botched it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they fixed stealthing, that is definitely a bug.
I’ve already done full clears of arah p1/2 with cleric gear/healer builds, a literal full clear of p3 with bearbows and they took forever, but never a FULL clear of arah p4. The best(worst) i did was a pug run where i played bearbow elementalist up till melandru, then played normally for the rest of the dungeon with 4 people new to p4 and it took about 4 hours. If it wasn’t for me, they would probably never have finished.
LF 2 cleric elementalists, 1 cleric guard, 1 apothecary/cleric warrior for literal arah p4 full clear. Need to have at least 4-5 hours time.
No detonator or it didn’t count :-P
I’d rather see her just back up from players, or be a little smart about LOSing.
“Oh, all my enemies are standing in the corner with their cleaving blades drawn buffed to hell. I think I’ll just go run in to that meat grinder. Sounds fun!”
I’d hoped they fix some npc and end reward bugs.
Nope, Detha will still bug out p2 regularly.
Oh god, I used feedback on Lupi last night
Hope I don’t get banned nervous
I’m sorry ANet! I didn’t mean to exploit Q_Q Please forgive me!
The corpses got me a few times in our p1 run last night. Sneaky.
Also, you can’t AFK the Ancient Ooze at the rock anymore, it’s been invis walled off (didn’t try coral).
He’s supposed to move around now, they might have broken something when they made that change.
QA testing: It should work. I mean, dude….it compiles…
The lack of consistency is really frustrating. +1 for just scaling reflects sanely and making all projectiles behave the same.
Any economist who knows more than I please correct me if I’m wrong.
O.o
Are you trying to summon John Smith to the bowels of the GW2 forums?
Is this some brilliant plan to get a new red post in here??
Hmm….I hope so. And I hope it succeds
Inb4 they make Lupi attacks not reflect able
ikr? Given how much Q_Q there is over Lupi, I’m really surprised that Malrona got kittened instead of Das Lupicus. I’ve never, ever heard anyone complain about Malrona. Maybe it was the damage boost you got from getting poisoned by her that prioritized this?
Because this week ANet feels like reflects shouldn’t work.
“Challenge” isn’t the aim. Just boost HP and remove high-damage attacks, because time == fun.
\o/
And it only took a year and a half for them to push that button.
Or maybe they flipped a lever.
Either way, christ — that fix was slower than Spire herself.
Not to mention they finally fixed the Arah p1 WP at Shoggroth.
I wonder what fixes we’ll get to see next year!
Just a heads up, nothing will be fixed anytime soon. They’re just now fixing bugs that have been around (and heavily complained about) for >1 year.
The usual work around for this is to have the entire party go all the way to the North end of the passage just East of the final boss fight. This should cause the NPCs to teleport to the party.
Or, just clear the gravelings. There aren’t that many of them :-P
Dungeons
The Ruined City of Arah (Explorable)
Path 1 (Jotun): Fixed a bug that prevented some of the waypoints from appearing after the correct event.
From the 6/3 patch notes.
Can someone go smack up Shoggroth and see if this is true?
(edited by dlonie.6547)
Spamming 2 is better at dungeon than 1-spam because 2 is a bigger number. Bigger nummer is moar deeps.
In other words, just ignore me. I’m being a smart kitten .
^^ You should make a “Caption this” thread with that screen, Lilith.
.
Because stacking them would be an exploit.
Hardest Bosses are Sîzer and Tàge, you can practice and train a year and you will still have more problems to solo them than anything else.
But probably you guys don’t even know them.
It’s dangerous to go alone.
Here, take these:
You might wanna stand back hes the one that gets blown up
No! Control it! Control it! No! dies
No NO NOOOOO gets blown up
CONTROL IT!!!
so if Lupicus’ kick was untelegraphed you’d be cool with that.
My inner bad is showing, but jebus, that kick might as well be untelegraphed. The only times I ever dodge it is by guessing and dodging early, before he even starts the tell. If I wait to see him start to hunker down, I can already taste his foot…I mean, I see it coming every time, but unless I’m mid-dodge when the tell starts, it gets me.
Is it this way for anyone else? Can anyone reliably dodge the kick by dodging after the tell starts? I’m wondering if maybe I just have horrible lag or something.
Thankfully he usually locks into the same skill rotation after a while so it’s easier to guess when it’s coming. Most times…
If it is an exploit, I wouldn’t think I would be punished as it’s been acknowledged by Content Designer, Robert Hrouda, that a soulbound dungeon rune is “odd”:
Thanks for the headsup on this. I’ll be sure to let our items folks know about the rune being soul bound. That seems odd to me!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-chest-runes-Soulbound/first#post388389
Well, they laid him off over a year ago (something about not meeting ANet’s high standards for ignoring players on forums), so I wouldn’t count too much on his posts being relevant to the current attitudes at ANetHQ.
People regularly forget food so

Murder? Or meat?
I make a pretty good team!
This thread is all wrong. There is one thing you need to know to be good at dungeons. Trust me, I’m a professional:
Spam 1.
You’re welcome.
This guy is a moron, don’t listen to him.
Spam 2 instead.
<3
Well, I was going to make a bad salad joke.
But now I don’t feel like it :-(
My second gif was made. This one took a while longer and is a little different but I love the animations even more. Adorable asura ftw.
Which one is better? I’m trying to decide but both are awesome.
Hehe, the frame with the reply could stand to be longer, but I love it
