Guilds are not just RL friends. There are loads of guilds in this forums’ recruitment area, as well as other forums’. Read through a few threads, check out a few guilds’ sites, get into one, check if you feel comfortable there and get the wanted stuff done; if not – thank them for a spot, but carry on somewhere else; if yes – profit!
You really don’t have to ask each random player if they want to be in a guild with you or make your friendlist too long, and you don’t have to rely on pugging, EVER, in this game if you just allow yourself the thought of putting some effort into finding a decent guild that would suit your needs. With hundreds of them out there, surely you’d find one good enough.
It really solves nearly all PvE problems, and possibly all dungeon issues one might have, not counting the obvious bugs.

BTW – i never had any issues with burrows as a melee toon, you just need to turn autotargetting off and don’t have the burrow targeted, just use your skills on it without autoattacking or anything like that. Only projectiles constantly miss and get obstructed, but then projectiles won’t deal them enough damage to destroy them (save for ele’s staff fire 1, but it hits burrows just fine with its splash damage).

The only really important bugs are those that block progression, like the norn fight in CoE1 at the moment, or Lupicus refusing to fight at all. Everything else is doable – and if you find pugs not the way to do it, just as i do, find a decent guild to do dungeons with.
My guild actually prefers ‘old’ dungeons to FotM and our currently highest difficulty across the whole guild is 5 or 6, with daily AC runs, amongst others. If you’re tired of pugging, start looking for a guild.

The [Arah] project is meant to help you find an Arah-ready player if you need 1-2 more once you’ve already formed a 3-4 man party of your main guild’s players. Then you just whisper those online and ask if they’re into Arah now. It’s the same as shouting in LA except that you’re guaranteed to get someone Arah-ready, understanding its length, requirements etc.

That said, everyone should have ‘main guild’ they play with all the time, and organise stuff there together. One that you play with whenever you’re online, where you know the people, learn stuff together and do stuff together for fun, even if it’s the long-dead CM that no one really NEEDS, but everyone’s up for some fun.
I got Dungeon Master and 4 dungeon-outfitted toons without ever pugging, and i’m not in a 500man guild either. Just find one that suits you – [Arah] is just an addition to it.

With one character, you can get 180 tokens a day from a dungeon, doing each route once.
This means a ~week of playing 1-2h daily (depends on dungeon, unless you want Arah set, as it’s longer) and getting a full exotic armor set, along with all drops and gold from the dungeons.
If you have more characters, you can speed it up – not even with lv80 characters.

You get full exotic gear except for jewelry (and if you get lucky with recipe drops, that too). On top of that, you get loads of gold (3+g an hour on top of tokens in some dungeons).

Yes, people are oblivious to that, farming Fractals because they are shorter and yield more rares/exotics from chests, and people like instant benefits. No, it’s not the fault of the design.

In the meantime, ensure that your internet connection is as stable on your end as possible. Call to your ISP, get rid of malware, update your router, flush dns, wipe temp data, stop visiting porn sites, stop downloading stuff from unknown sources (this included filestube and torrents).
Somehow i had no dcs throughout over 700h unless ANet’s servers crashed (everyone affected), had login issues (everyone affected) or i got kicked for afking (obvious). And no, i don’t have fiber 100MB connection.

Gunnar’s Hold would suit you best, then. No other language than English on /m and /t, active PvX community. In regard to W3, we got to t2 some time ago but the strongest W3 guilds left for Blacktide, going after points seen after pressing B rather than staying for the community, and we’re still reorganising our W3 forces. You’d not only found yourselves on a decent and active server, but you’d also be a valuable addition to our W3 team.

AC is actually the best source of gold and offers the cheap pow/tough/vit gear, which is a staple of every balanced (aka decent) build out there (balanced out by jewelry specific to your needs).
I agree that no one does CM, but it’s because (1) it doesn’t offer either p/t/v nor berserker gear and (2) it’s harder for pugs than other dungeons. Still fun in guild groups, though, but yeah, not really worth it.

I don’t think that resetting is a good idea. I don’t think that the game should be designed around people not willing to form up in guilds and/or groups of friends; the game’s design shouldn’t promote being non-communicative egocentic brat. Not needing a guild to do open PvE, sPvP or W3 is really a great thing, but some content has to require conscious grouping in MMOs, leading to either pugging through it or finding/forging a guild to play through it together.
I find pugging very bad and i only pug 1-2 more people to my guild group if no one in the guild is interested in doing that specific thing (and i’ve achieved Dungeon Master some time ago, through only guild runs). If i weren’t in my current, well-established and dungeon-interested guild, i would just look for one and keep looking until i’ve found one suiting my needs and expectations – be it running AC with me, helping me out with low level Fractals or being talkative on /g.

3.0001 fractals, rounded up? [FotM bug?]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

drkn.3429

If you start with a fresh character, it goes like this:
lv1: 1-2-3 – get to lv2;
lv2: 1-2-3-boss – get to lv3;
lv3: 1-2-3 – get to lv4;
lv4: 1-2-3-boss – get to lv5

You can kill the boss over and over if you intentionally choose an even number diff level before entering.

The bonus nature lies in the daily chest you get after killing the boss the first time that day – it pops in the place of daily/monthly/map completion chest, and can yield extra tokens, bags of gold or ascended rings (lv10+).

FIX dc/rejoin feature in FRACTALS

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: drkn.3429

drkn.3429

Other than ‘just’ eliminating dc issues in the first place, which also lie on the client-side and ANet can’t do anything about those, there’s really no mechanic that would work with FotM yet. Currently it’s based on the grouping for personal story (that’s why you have to be on the same overflow to enter, unlike for dungeons), what already shows that there’s no third mechanic in place, and the dungeon-joining mechanic is just too exploitable.
I am sure ANet is working on a viable solution, but it will take them a while to get it up and running – it’s not just ‘fixing’ stuff, it’s figuring out and implementing a completely new mechanic in the game’s engine, which might also be used to update grouping for dungeons later on.
For now just do whatever you can to ensure that your connection on your end is as stable as possible, and just enjoy the content you can.

I think it’s a issue beyond that. even if you are playing with guildies, one person disconnects on 3 and you’re obligated to disconnect and restart.

Why would you?
Yes, the dc issues suck. Yes, the dced person loses out. Yes, it sucks, i know.
But why would everyone else have to lose out then, too, being already on third fractal? It’s not their fault – and asking your guildies to leave fractals because you’ve just dced is egocentric and rude, not the other way around.

Think that’s bad try getting a large enough group together in Orr to free up the camps.

The only thing keeping my guild/server from liberating Balthazar’s for shards are bugs, not the community. Just communicate – ask people in towns to join you and group up, you’d be surprised how many people will show up. Unless you’re on a purely W3 server with nearly no PvE population.

zamrai – despite having lv5 unlocked, i’ve been doing lv1-2 fractals with guildies to help them catch up; same as other of my guildies, as well. In the end, if those on higher levels don’t help those on lower levels, they will be forced to pug, and pugging for fractals is a bad idea. If you’re on lv12, it’s in your best interest to have enough guildies around the same level to do fractals with you.
Unless you’re really comfortable with pugging and were lucky enough to never run into a terrible pug.

More so, you get only 1 more fractal shard per map on lv10+, Agony hits in and it’s generally not that more profitable or cool to pursue the higher levels, ignoring your guildies. Yes, it gives a sense of personal progression – for the character – but pretty much that’s it.

drkn.3429

So you either never met a decent elementalist or couldn’t play that class ‘properly’ yourself. Their ‘only’ problem is, in general, low numbers – low hp AND low armor AND low damage AND mediocre support after the EA nerf. It’s not that they are jacks-of-all-trades, decent at everything but not masters of any specific role – it’s that their numbers are low. This means slower progression through content than with anything else (lower dmg output than warrior/guardian/thief) and higher skill threshold to not die and actually do anything useful (lower survivability and more complicated mechanics than warrior/guardian/thief/necro/ranger).
They still can get stuff done, though, and a player really good with their ele doesn’t keep their party back.

Not Dragons, i guess not bloodstones, probably somehow the Mists themselves – how? If the magic commonly used by our toons is a ‘gift of Abaddon’, to put it simply, and is channeled through bloodstones, how are the binding rituals channeled? Or even the guardian’s spirit weapons – what school is it, what’s the ‘lore mechanic’?
If our toons can and do draw magic from the Mists – or any other source than old-interviews-confirmed bloodstones – saying that the bloodstones and schools of magic are behind the magic used by our toons is a long stretch. I’m trashing the old knowledge and theories of the bloodstones and magic to keep a fresh perspective, not tied by old info in fear of plotholes and retcons.

It’s pretty simple, like in normal dungeons glass cannon builds are a total bust and will only give your teammate headaches imo. Guardians are always great for PuG because they rarely build glass cannon.

I’d say you need atleast 2 ranged for an easier time in some dungeons btw. Besides that a lot of it comes down to knowing your class and how to survive with it, building it right and picking the correct skills when needed. I’ve done major parts of more difficult dungeons with 3 people because we know exactly what to do and what the limits of our class are.

I run glass-cannon Elementalist and I’m the last one down usually. Of course, anything that hits for over 10k one shots me.

Your teams are very bad, then, unless they’re also running glass builds (not necessarily even cannons).
In terms of survivability, tank guardian is always more durable than a glassy ele – unless the guardian player is really bad.

And yes, Pinch clearly is clearly theorising with not much prior experience with all the classes in high-end PvE.

Once one person has died and is in an ‘unrecoverable spot’, everyone should just wipe, best by jumping to their deaths – no armor repairs then. It is somewhat a silly mechanic, but well – this is how it works, embrace it and carry on.

The disconnections are a real problem, but it’s obviously technical and will be fixed sooner or later.

  • main focus: high-end PvE (dungeons, providing our server with ori maps, liberating Balthazar’s Temple)
  • moderate and growing interest in WvWvW

  • no requirements to use VoIP (unless for sPvP tournaments)
  • no requirements in regard to how you spend your time in-game
  • no requirements in regard to the knowledge of the game, ‘skill’, etc

Expectations:

  • be communicative, with a communicative level of English – read the chat when in a party, be responsive when asked, English understandable enough not to be ambiguous or hard to understand
  • we don’t care about your experience with the game or ‘player skill’ as long as you’re willing to learn and not whine about every obstacle on your way – we all were at the beginning some time ago, but we’ve learnt our lessons and can pass it on, so make use of our experience
  • be a nice, non-drama person – everyone can have a bad day and be moody or have an oversensitive moment, but don’t make it a norm
  • represent us – we’re fine with multiguilding and playing dungeons cross-server as long as you actually represent us often enough to make being in the guild sensible
  • don’t be a kitten in the kitten for others – we’ll never force you to do something, so never force others into your parties if they don’t feel like it

And yet we have a dungeon dedicated to bloodstones and the Seer in GW2, and there’s no mention of any schools, either by any of their name or even the division being mentioned.

I might be taking it a tad too simply, but if there are nearly no differences between the bloodstones other than ‘profession x is based on bloodstone in y’ – which probably is a retcon/Gods’ lie in the first place now – then why stick to the division?

It boils down to what it means that z is an ‘elementalist spell’ or a ‘monk spell’, i guess, other than pure design – but from the in-game point of view.
We also know that there are spells that can’t be tied up to any known professions, like the monsters’ tricks. Perceiving bloodstones as sources of ‘x profession’s magic’ creates a conundrum if you don’t limit yourself to the player toon professions being the only spellcasters.

I gave up quick on the Clocktower, but this one was easier for me to stick to and I got ‘er done. Since I finished it I can say I liked it even though it made me yell “kitten” several times. Like a lot of people I thought that just getting past the first row of steam jet platforms was all there was. I didn’t expect the puzzle to be that long. When I saw that second line of them over the ledge I had to take a twenty minute break. Fortunately that part was easier as was the rest of the way.
Fun puzzle (once finished) and I stuck around on the end island to kill the champ with people twice. thumbs up

And if more people got a similar attitude to the Clocktower, we wouldn’t have so many people claiming it’s impossible, broken and not fun – if something’s challenging, it’s meant to be so, so that it’s even more rewarding once you’re done. And if you decide to give up, it’s not the design’s fault – unless really no one can beat it for a longer while, but we time and again, with each part of the game, get enough proofs that everything is doable and fun. If you have the right attitude, that is.

I have all other jps done, including the Clocktower, and i consider myself a decent platformer, but Skipping Stones took me almost an hour. An hour well spent, and well rewarded (with fun and sense of accomplishment, not loot!), i must say.

If you have actually talked to the marked NPCs, read what they say, and read the letters you got, you would have known where to go and what to do.
Yes, GW2 doesn’t spoonfeed you, doesn’t just mark a spot on the map saying ‘go there, do this’. Not always, at least. And when it doesn’t happen, loads of people are ‘lost’ simply because they are not used to actually getting info from, surprise surprise, the game itself.
The NPCs and letters give out details where to go as opposed to general hints during the Halloween hunts. It’s been made much easier already; how easy do you want it to be? Just your another MMO level of organisation because you can’t be arsed to actually immerse into the world, talk to marked NPCs, read the letters you just got and just act on it?

With 70 people online in my guild throughout the one-time events, i can only say that the lag issues were not observable by everyone; heck, not even by majority, especially today. Most of us had no problem playing the game, no freezes, no lags, no rendering problems even. There were some unfortunate guildies who couldn’t move at all due to 20k ping, but given the overall ‘testing group’, lagging is mostly something either on your end or on the way, completely out of control by either you or ANet.

It’s just that necros and rangers are probably the least useful in ‘high-end’ PvE right now (they CAN contribute and get stuff done, but they’re just too bugged/broken or designed more with solo/PvP playstyle), thieves are hard to properly use (so many glass cannon thieves out there dying in one hit from any boss) and engis are boring/weak/mediocre support/not fun – pick your option.

People have been saying that a 5war or 5guardian groups are best – someone even organised a 5war group for Arah4 to bruteforce Simin ‘cause they couldn’t beat her normally. Then it becomes clear that a mix of the two professions is awesome in dungeons – 3 wars, 2 guardians. Then it becomes clear that they have nearly no combo fields, and while they have lots of party stuff in shouts, it’s still limited – thus one elementalist enters the scene, getting 2g, 2w, 1ele in the end.
