This would be impossible to balance. Sometimes stats don’t matter at all compared to having an extra man(healing, CC, boons, debuffs etc all are not stat related) and other times it would be a total steamroll (imagine burst thief with even more power/precision but also extra toughness and hp).
Others have suggested that 1 player gets locked out til a teammate dies and that seems like a good enough solution.

Slight alterations include losing furious retal for practiced tolerance if you are a bit glassy and changing a utility to infiltrator signet or shadowstep.
Hidden killer is highly situational, and only optimal when you have very low crit rate or are fighting very glassy opponents.
I agree that +1 second stealth could probably be dropped, sleight of hand(now gives steal ~20sec cd) or long reach could both excellent additions in WvW, but if you like to chain cloak and dagger a lot for repeated stealth, then keep it by all means.

If you are running a build that dies to this, then it also dies to burst thief and is therefore not a viable build (unless you know other team has no reach).

They just don’t fit well with how a thief fights, trip wire and spike trap are POWERFUL effects, even better than bolas/bull rush but I don’t have anything like 100b to capitalize on them, and when I do want CC chances are they are running away, not towards me.
In fact I might use tripwire if it was thrown or ninjas/pirates/golems spawned in to “place” it at target location.
If your teammates bring stability, CC, and cleansing then ele is a great asset

You craft a pvp version called “runic blade” that will, in some indefinite amount of time become pve gear along with all other gear you have in the hom. It looks identical to infinite light, and the only reason infinite light is so sought after is for its looks, so it is irrelephant whether or not runic blades become “legit” infinite lights when the gear merge happens

root = well…you know…dead
shatter = dead
axe eviscerate = dead (yes, warr can one shot you just by 1 button press. 10k evi withoout might, 9-12 might stacked enough to one shot glassy ele)
even bunker guardian can kill it = root->whirl on gs = deadupdraft/LF/RTL on cd = dead
well. summary:
lowest defence, lowest HP pool, cutted mobility, 70% of utilities useless, all ultimates – useless.
traits supports more bunker play style (fire traits – useless), arcane – disbalance
there is no focus traits, focus skills designed awfulidk what to say, just try to play ele and you’ll understand why ele’s on the bottom.
only 1 pros – extreme burst that can “one shot”, just make a comparison for example with warrior
also there is no reward for skill play. 2 button warrior can outshine ele with all his combos. lol. or you deal same damage as mesmer, but you need to press 10 buttons, when mesmer can just dodge>blurred>shatter. pffalso I was kicked from my team cuz “sorry mate, you are playing only ele. yeah, we know, ele is interesting and fun class, but we want to progress, nothing personal”

I thought it only gave you the win if you started on the winning team OR if you got moved there through auto-balance.
Because I’m fairly certain if you’re on the winning team and you get auto’ed to the losing side, you still get the win… so I assumed it worked the same both ways.
You assumed wrong, this is in there to take the sting out of getting auto’d, you don’t get whatever your old team got, you just get the win.
If you volunteer for balance you get the win no matter what PLUS a bonus for volunteering, so do that a lot.
There is a reduction if you are in a game for a very short time, though I think the win bonus itself is still the full amount (citation needed)

Anyway this would take a lot of fun out of playing ele I think, cutting skills in half and making attunements schizophrenic with all the swapping.
Personally I like the idea of giving a weapon swap but allowing the same attunement, so an ele might be a fire/ice ele with dagger fire/water + staff fire/water,, or maybe earth/earth/fire/water for conditions, and so on. This would give individual eles more flavor and allow them to ditch useless attunement sets for ones that fit their build. This would clearly break the game though in so many ways so nevermind.
The main problem is the blatant stacking that happens at the start of each game, which is more likely what you are seeing the results of. The few hours that spectate was shutdown and teams were randomly assigned created some of the most balanced hotjoin matches I’ve ever seen.
Basically once one game snowballs, all the same players try to join the same team next game. This is easy to see happening if you watch how many players each have at start(assuming you load in fast enough), and one team gets insta joins while the other languishes til some poor sap clicks in and allows another join on the opposite side. Eventually people start leaving cause they are getting crushed so hard and new players who don’t know what’s going on join in.
There’s no real way to combat this as a solo player. I have had some success breaking the cycle when the stackers are just mindlessly zerging—some decaps can really shift your teams morale and get them to focus on doing objectives, and often the “stacked” team might get bogged down by newbies wanted a cut of the rewards.
Really there is no need to allow team selection in hotjoins. Team selection could be a great option to increase the popularity of player run servers, along with the ability to manually shuffle teams around

I hope removing pvp crafting doesnt mean people have to PVE to get PVP gear in future. Infinte Light for example costs 825g in PVE, but easier to get in PvP. I think its a horrible idea to unify PVE and PVP gear anyway.
Both will have unique and common gear. Devs have been hinting at spending our glory to fill out lockers precisely because things like infinite light are going to pve, but they want to avoid a huge outcry that we can get them now so easily (the outcry is inevitable, b/c elitist pve’ers are so vocal).
It also means that, in all likelihood, we will start seeing level restrictions on our pvp gear. This may even mean that you will not be able to equip gear in the heart of the mists unless your character is high enough level to use it in pve. (On this point I’m sure they are still in discussion phase). The idea is to unify the two so they stop feeling like separate games

Right yesterday, I got instadead by one elementalist. And I don’t mean he dropped me from 100-0 and stomped me, no. He didn’t burst me, but when I was supposedly to go onto downed state, I was already dead.
Then there was one mesmer in soloQ that selfrezzed right in front of me (he didn’t rally, since none of my team mates were dead)
I’ve done this on thief, if you pull somebody off a wall and gib them before they hit the ground, the fall damage kills them. There are tons of weird glitches that can launch players into the air or cause fall damage randomly
My thief routinely gets air sigil procs for 2000, and with might has gotten up to 2600 hits. At 1000 dmg, he would have to deal over(because he already has other +% dmg mods) 20,000 dmg per proc to make a sigil of force worth it. Sigil of accuracy provide even less, and sigil of strength less yet.
I think the order of power goes something like air/fire > full bloodlust > force > accuracy
with some exceptions for specific builds that can make good use of sigils of battle, or have no crit chance, or REALLY depend on crits (like ele… Maybe)
Edit: plus sigils never “miss” unless you hit AI, while your big damage moves very often will

Seriously nobody runs builds that glassy(that isn’t thief) if they plan to win. I can make a build with 10k hp and 0 toughness and whine on the forums about dying to ranger auto attack but it doesn’t mean anything.
I’ve been trying this and its working.
Been having a lot of low ranks on both sides and queues are much faster than solo.

With the new fancy “gear unification”, how will level restrictions be handled? Will we not going to be able to run around PvE at level 2 in full arah regalia? Will we not even be able to PvP with it if we’re not level 80?

So my best guess is:
There are currently between 10k and 20k players who have played at least 11 solo queue matches in the NA region in the last three weeks.
Which is pretty sketchy tbh. Veck has been on the leader board with 13 wins and 0 losses basically the entire 3 weeks, and many of the players also have very low numbers of games. I consider myself relatively casual compared to many players I see and have logged about 250 games by now.
Since they reduced # of dishonor required I have been seeing very few 4v5. Things seem to be working okay
Heal early vs thief, you are dead if they get you under half.
But really, auto attack is better DPS, and heartseeker isn’t even an evade. Just chill/fear/laugh at them.
Also WvW isn’t balanced at all so you are gonna run into superglassLOL4signets builds that can kill you quick if you do nothing for a couple seconds.

He has way more than enough precision for executioner to be optimal unless he only ever fights squishies that die in 1 crit backstab. If he wants to run valk instead of DPS that’s a different story.
S/p will get you kills when somebody tries to revive and give you a bit of teleport mobility (an extra 900 range is a Lot), but d/p will keep you alive vs other thiefs and let you chase with 3 spam plus have on demand stealth, that’s the main difference.
I think running dagger storm is asking to be humiliated these days with the increasing prevalence of boon stripping, so do so at your own risk.
D/d benefits a lot from signets. Shadows lets your heartseekers travel further for easier escapes (turn off auto target lol.) and infiltrators gives you a second teleport for cloak and dagger, which is nice in a chaotic fight. Scorp wire functions similarly if you want to pull targets to your teammates.
I don’t generally run shortbow in WvW anymore unless its a siege situation, but mileage may vary as I find it very useful in spvp, so maybe it does have a home
What is the purpose of the build? Fractals, WvW, solo PvE? No build is optimal for everything.

Shortbow used to be OP and used as a primary weapon (only swapping for a backstab burst) before trick shot nerf. It was able to put out waaay too much pressure, it is already a pain for glassy specs to deal with even missing shots, esp. using 3 spam, and the poison is absurd.. prly needs initiative increase since the last patch.

The value of not having to heal greatly outweighs any slight numerical advantage surge might have against a “bursty” opponent. Plus warrior has tons of ways to drag out a fight, and surge works pretty poorly with the meta hammer f1 spam.
Does it matter? With MMR all ele’s will just end up at the bottom with other ele and people who don’t know how to play or have only 1 hand
Tough call, but I’d say hotjoin is your best bet unless soloQ is instant popping for you, especially since solo matches take longer And you have to wait for them to start.
Your win rate in hotjoin could be even worse than soloQ if there is a bunch of team stacking going on though, just make sure to spam join for whatever team won last round to be safe

It baffles me how they can have a working version of a nearly identical skill and this one is still glitchy as hell.
Just like they can’t figure out teleport fails either, or teleporting into meshes, or properly fix teleport shortcuts to either work or not work, or even be consistent on opposing sides of the same map.
Having played out this patch, I overreacted poorly at first. Having now played it out for a good ten active hours, I’ll tell you D/D for a skilled person is still good.
I’m with several here. Water and Arcana prove to be two of the most useful lines.
The two best builds for pvp went virtually unchanged b/c they were already heavy into arcana/water, this isn’t news, but absolutely nothing was improved and many of the fringe builds ended up getting worse because key traits are deeper into the lines now.
I agree it used to be better, back when a thief could burst you down fast but if you saw him you could drop him just as fast
Now there is so little counter play. Attack an engi? Engi pulls out bombs and spams til you die or leave. Attack a necro? Get condi dumped + feared by unreadable attacks while you struggle to cleanse them 1 at a time. Attack a warrior? Get ready to have to dodge earthshaker/pin down 5+ times because the fight is gonna last at least that long. Even theifs are turning into grindy sustain with their small heals, stealth and blindspam.
They are pushing things totally in the wrong way, this was supposed to be an action game.

We ran 5 against a team of 6 necro and they all uninstalled and decided to go back to school, get respectable well paying jobs and start happy families
