Outside of soldiers amulet, Vitality sucks. Srs.
Died more playing with Knight amulet than with Berserkers. A good offense is a better defense than a mediocre defense. If it’s not soldier runes no thanks jefferson Vitality does me few favors. Take all that damage and then can’t bring it up, you kill slower which means the battle lasts longer on both sides, yet your heals aren’t % based.

It gives the cushion you need to keep fighting. If you have both cleanse and Vitality then that 3 seconds you describe becomes 10. I think 10 seconds matter in this game. >.>

The trade off for this cushion quite often is a decrease in your own offensive pressure.
As Necro’s gain more power over time because of 1) condition stacking via bleed/torment and 2) Death shroud accumulation. The weaker your offensive pressure the longer it takes for them to die, which 1 makes those conditions tick for longer, 2 gives them more time to defend themself.

With Spite being a power line as well, the power damage dealt is higher than base which often goes through unmitigated unless you’re running say Soldier ammy (which are nice), but just “Vitality” means nothing. Died more in Knight ammy than I would in a week with Berserkers. Pressure was way too long, battles last longer as a result, and Necro’s accumulated DS overtime a long battle with a necro is not what you want.

My response is to stun and immobilize the hell out of Necro’s with some condi removal. Won’t even let em fart. Why decrease my damage and the groups damage pro-longing a fight when we gotta kill two of these guys who’s class mechanic builds up over itme.

Still don’t see why its important for necro’s to burn in a post-torment world.
4 stacks of torment can basically cause the same effect if someones moving, but Torment has a ramp up time as stacks are built (though there isn’t a lot of skills that apply it atm) and does less damage if a person is rooting themself.

Leave the burn to the professions that aren’t as varied with conditions, eg Guardian, Ele, Warrior. They require a condition that powerful when they have pretty much nothing else to go alongside it.

Launch not breaking stuns is silly, and tbh seems like a bug because of how they handle skill activation in the air, funny how I can teleport while launched, I’ll be on my two feet, but can’t move. Hit Protect me while launched and nothing.
I understand you care about the Ele Arheundel, but this is silly it’s not even Elementalist specific.

It’s not at all nonsense and this got nothing to do with the fact that I play ele, the fact is there are quite few clues on what is about to happen to you, I got killed myself by updraft+combo, I wasn’t ready for it, but I guarente you that while the ele flip back and change attunement you’ve got plenty of time to do something.
Every launch animation in the game got a clearly clue behind it, the guardians/warrior swing their hammer back so you can dodge/block/blind it, the ele is in air attunement and possibly running towards you..what more do you need?
The OP is asking to use stunbreaker while mid-air, it’d be a kd then and no more a launch, the only difference is that you are mid-air instead than being on the ground…

What? So KD and Pushback are the same because you can stunbreak them?
No they aren’t.
There are multiple ways to chain Updraft but even besides that the same is true for all knockbacks. Which is completely fine, but you should be able to stun break without having to wait for a the bounce to end.

Seriously, all this talk about “condition spam” came along after necros got buffed. When engis and rangers where the only condi classes that were viable none of this was an issue.

All of this is because necros are kitten -easy to play and one of the most broken things in the history of this game. More broken than 25 stacks of might mesmers, more broken that block-bug, more broken than bladetrail hitting for 10k+…

Train your ire to necros. Leave the balanced classes out of this…

I think you’re looking at GW1 with rose-tinted goggles. Conditions in that game were just as spammed as in this game. Only thing is, that game had a monk and foul feast Necros.

Also there were no stun breaks in GW1, just blocks and Stability-type stances.

The pacing of DoT conditions was completely different in GW1 than it is now.
If you look at how Health Degeneration vs Condi damage it’s not even comparable. It took 24s at best for health degen to kill someone at base health by itself because of the 10 pip cap. Burning by itself at 798 condi power will kill a guardian, ele or Thief at base health in 20s and there is no condi stack cap like there was in gw1. The power of DoT in GW1 and GW2 isn’t the same. In addition Armor ignoring damage has basically been removed from Physical combatants excusing any life-steal they may have (rare), so conditions now hold the monopoly on that.

Definitely blind in GW2 isn’t as outrageous as blind in GW1 which is fine, because a player isn’t dedicated to support in the same capacity anymore.

But the thing is, professions with two many condi’s get problematic. A single burn with good stats dwarfs GW1 throw 3 other DOT’s on it….

Burning damage from skills in general needs to be put in line more with the damage a combo field burn deals, skills usually burn for 700~ while the combo field is about 300 with the same stats.

Burning is overall a bit 2 strong like this mainly on gaurdian and engi, having the tick more around 500 would seem better to me and up the combo field burn to 400 or so.

Burning? One of the only two conditions in this game that deals a small amount of damage that does not stack in intensity and only duration? The only condition that Guardians have; that any guardian will kitten theirself if they increase the damage on it by building his/her gear condition based.

You think there are condition damage based guardians out there who can decently survive and still do deal decent damage?

None of the DoT conditions are really problematic at all.
It’s an additive problem. Ele has burning, they have bleeding too. As do warriors and guardians and even Mesmers.
Burnings not really an issue until you put other conditions beside it. When you give a profession everything and the kitchen sink, it’s a problem. Necro’s got Torment as a new condition, devs should’ve built on that to increase their pressure alongside defenses so they can do their attrition throwing on burning is “wot?” These builds are spiking with passive DOT’s. Doesn’t even compute. If they want armor ignoring spikes they should bring back + damage, Deep wound, and/or conditionals.

Stealth shouldn’t stack duration. At beta it was projected as a short term defense, thats all it needs to be. When stealth gets extended far past that 3-4s mark it starts to leave the sensible side of combat pacing. Maybe the blast duration effect need be increased past 3s, but as a whole it shouldn’t stack. Remove stealth stacking duration and you’ve basically only got about 3-4s to operate, universally.

There are many players who quit or are on break who still keep tabs on the game. They do so because they’re interested, but something in the current state of things, whatever it is for them keeps them away. People don’t still keep tabs if they absolutely hate the product, but if improvements take forever eventually they stop keeping track.

Fine you don’t have a bunch of ETA’s to give but where is the general Road map?
As far as I know, you’ve got a balance patch to do for the pax tournament coming up, setting yourself up for pax, and solo que somewhere between now and what did john say? The end of the universe?

Fights don’t last long enough normally for profs like the Warrior and Necro who’d be more confortable being ascending pressure. Simultaneously they don’t last long enough so unless you break them given their telegraphed skills, they’re not choosen over other methods.

They need to bring back Deep wound and ‘+" damage. The simple Dot v. Power split isn’t creating enough variance for everyone to comfortably fit.

FS : steals 2 boons
PW : doesn’t steal 2 boon

FS is a clear winner as for the better skill by far.

Sword akittens potential is in range to cleave 3 targets.
Given that situation S/P is at a base the stronger weapon.
Sure you get in cleave range a couple of times in a tpvp game but its not forever and often you go back to that 1 target range. When you’re in that range to cleave 3 targets PW shines but usually there is a guardian in the centre pumping out aoe retal for the whole group. 1 retal is fine, 3 ticks is murder.
FS is more practical but S/P is the powerhouse.

How would Mesmer runes give you an extra second of daze.
Tactical is 1.5s in tpvp. 1.5×1.33 = 1.995 = 2s. However all dazes round up to the nearest second so 1.5 is already 2s. Unless your running sigil of paralyzation in addition with it, but last I heard those still weren’t working with Tactical strike in spvp.

my biggest issue with the ele is that everyone, devs included, seem to have forgotten that eles can use the focus. the weapon is beyond useless with its ridiculous cooldowns and hardly useful spells (oh no a line of fire that you can aim! oh no a 3s chill on a 30s cooldown!)

Yeah srs. People always complaing about staff and then you wonder if they know the focus exist. Tbh I love the focus outside of the fire line and Chilling Winds.
Imo earth focus is one of the best off-hands in game, air is good, water is alright and fire is forgettable.

wow man, HA realy? HA was the most stupid, new player unfriendly, rank discriminating system ever introduced to MMO, infested by gimmick builds that require no skill at all.
By the way all serious gvg players went there only to get rank emotes and once got phoenix all left and never gone back there again.
GvG on the other hand was well and working, I don’t understand why Anet decided to kill the guild system of GW1? GvG monthly were great and real fun, thought it had some problems as-well.

HA wasn’t always that bad, and people could still access if it if they tried hard enough in the later years. But obviously you shouldn’t have to “try” to get in to a match of pvp. The HA community killed itself. Though I don’t wtf is with the esport talk. HoH wasn’t “esports” it was a fun mode that was part of GW1’s more diverse palette.

If they’re doing what they’re supposed to, then there isn’t really supposed to be rapid pvp content.
GW2 PvE as a b2p game with a cash-shop is showing its content output generally beats that of any subscription game.
PvP obviously has issues but well if it was done better it wouldn’t need frequent content updates. The Dev output schedule kind of reflects this even though I’d say they are behind where they should be.

In Guild Wars 1 we had this amazing continous global tournament, the Heroes Ascent. If you won you would get some good-looking PvP gear, a chance to get a unique minipet to that chest and your team’s name would be broadcasted throughout the server chat. How awesome was that?

Hero’s Ascent caused plenty of grief. Most people didn’t pay attention to the shoutout just cared if they got favor so they could farm Underworld. Basically any issue you had with Free tournaments in gw2 was there in HA, but the chest at the end was certainly better.
They should be looking back to the Balthazar faction model and translating that to glory. It was basically made so PvP players wouldn’t have to PvE but could still unlock what they wanted and simultaneously gave progression. Simultaneously hybrid players unlocked a lot of what they wanted in pve, but could get the last of what they need with the glory they accumulated. That progression could later be mostly ignored if you just wanted to pvp by getting some unlock packs to shoot past the process. Throw in the addition of Zaishen keys and it worked well.

Its funny but all 3 modes have vocal players saying they feel neglected.
WvW is treated better than Alliance battles ever was, except for not accumulating glory. PvE skill balance tbh doesn’t even matter. If all warrior teams were so effective in Underworld in GW1, they’d introduce a new monster that would weaken the warriors effect. Like when they brought in Skeleton of Dhuum to hit farmers. You can fix PvE mobs and implement different WvW skills/sieges, the balance hesitation based on PvE doesn’t seem right tbh.

but other than the random venom traits and kittening last refuge, why would you want to rework shadow arts? it does its job as the stealth tree pretty well, offering a good amount of decent traits related to its “key feature”.

not saying it’s perfect, but i don’t see it needing an overhaul.

Overhaul might be conjuring the wrong idea.
Reason to revisit shadow arts
~ Patience really doesn’t need to exist.
~ No customization for Black Powder/IA and our other blind applicants? Where is that blind trait.
~ Power shots is lackluster
~ 101 stealth traits which would certainly make sense if there more traits per line, but with the amount they’ve limited themself to, it’s a bit too dense.

be nice if they did another pass through that line.

I don’t think P/P needs much more tbh. Basically what Ichi said though im partial to just increase vital shots damage.
duration on Body shot increased to 4s would be real nice for wpn/swapping.
Unload to have movement speed boost while channeling, maybe 40% srs.

I know what he’s saying. I think tree variety and choices are important. With the presumption that Leeching Venoms is usually taken, part of the synergy is boosting Leechings healing for that team you’re presumably supporting with the venomshare trait. Which Is why I’d keep it in shadow arts. Synergy isn’t “destroyed” its not as great as if it were solely in DA. At the cost of some intuitive placement, higher tree variety, and the Venom share playstyle itself is boosted and made more flexible either way.

It’s going to side-grade standard trait set ups like 10/30/30, D/D, D/P and S/D where they can take Venom share instead of Shadow Rejuvenation. Slot a Devourer Venom or Basilisk while having Shadow Embrace and Infused in Shadow and get more out of it than they currently would. Trading that Heal-over-time for offensive utility and minor support.

What I was trying to gauge by asking the template question was whether or not folks are open to changing their build if it was more convenient for them or if it was a matter of them only wanting to play one build for eternity. I can see that it’s a mix of both, now.

The reason why the Cannon control room is small is because the cannon itself is powerful so we didn’t want to make it easier for players to dominate the cannon and continuously hammer those on the field with no consequence. With that in mind, do you still feel the space is too small? Also, with the small space in mind, do you still feel that the shots should be dodge-able?

Are you guys saying that you would prefer to have a less powerful cannon that is easier to defend?

Not just easier to defend, but easier to assault. A wider room gives the assaulter some space to work with. Or moving the two front glass panels to the back would also work instead of making it wider. At that point as the defender, there is a bit more pressure on you because of the glass behind you to make up for the assaulter eating 3 marks/traps/ turrets on entry.

And then why would anyone ever take Deadly Arts? On top of that, going into Shadow Arts for Venoms and NOT Stealth leaves you with a crap load of wasted traits, including every single Minor.
Shadow Arts also already gets massive use by anyone with, as either weapon set, S/D, P/D, D/D, D/P.
It doesn’t come anywhere near needing something like that as a crutch to maintain wide appeal.

Is that a serious question?
25 DA is typical.
30 DA I’d say is more oft then not taken for Panic strike or to take a second major/adept trait then Residual venoms, but it’s still taken.

3 weapon sets don’t benefit much from SA, outside of venom shares or limited investment. To get more out of it they have to combine with 1 of the other 5 weapon sets and not each other otherwise again they get little out of it. The change decreases the reason to be in that traitline for those 3 weapons and even other weapon sets which can actually take advantage of Shadow arts traits. It certainly make Residual more attractive, but I think in terms of creating the most variety in thieves, giving us weight choices, putting it in DA isn’t as strong a choice.

I suggest getting someone on the map team to stretch out the size of the cannon room a bit. Having glass and bungee sides is fine but the area is really cramp and a bit more width would make it better. It’s less “Oh they dodged too far back, perfect time to fear them” and just “Fear till they fall”. Cannon being undodgeable is fine, the damage is pretty steep though.
Teleports and the glass work are not meshing at all.
Pulls still have some issue where people get rocketed into the air, forgot all about that until I started using Scorpion again. One guy instead of falling through the floor actually got launched upwards to the above floor…

Exactly, I am very profecient in one build I use for PvP, and in WvW. Another build brings another playstyle.

That’s a positive so long as it’s meaningful for every profession.

Allie I like the map but honestly I think you guys should bring someone in the environment/map team to increase the size of the control panel room at the least. Extremely cramp. That and the cannon getting some kind of damage nerf or doing % damage.

That’s completely irrational. Just take Deadly Arts with some other tree that will actually help you, like Acrobatics. If you aren’t using a lot of Stealth or Venom Share (which should not be there), you have no business going deep into Shadow Arts.
That’s no different than a Ranger using a greatsword with spirits/shouts investing 30 points in Marksmanship, or an Engineer using a rifle and turrets taking 30 in Alchemy.

If Venom share isn’t in Shadow arts, then there is less reason to be in Shadow arts period because it centers heavily on Stealth. Keeping it there makes that line a hell of a lot less shallow and gives you more choice on how to build by having all 5 lines attractive to everyone. We could throw Fleet of Shadow in SA, rip out Slowed pulse, leeching and power shots too and throw in even more stealth traits but it’s literally just making the line shallow and decreasing your reasons to consider the trait line.

Tbh I’d do it the other way around, but merging them I agree with.

Deadly Arts mix better with condition builds than Shadow Arts, and putting the merged venoms on Deadly Arts free venom sharers to get the defensive traits on SA if they invest on it.

As it is now Venom share is one of the few trait that keeps that line from being so alienating. I’d keep it in there and merge it with residual. Making Venom share a straight out stronger trait. At that point you get a little more bang for your buck for investing 30 in SA other than playing immortal with Shadow rejuvenation.
Then you can play with 10/30/30 on every weapon for instance, or stay with 30/x/30/x/x. 20/20/30, so on and so forth. The two together is great in either line, but Imo Shadow arts doesn’t need to lose any more non-stealth options. Every line benefits and every weapon set benefits if it stays in Shadow arts.

If you’re S/P, P/P or SB. Defensive traits in Shadow arts are basically Slowed Pulse and Hidden Killer. Sure there is Deception but assuming you are a venom based thief, Deception isn’t something you’re going to take regardless. Huh? The blue glass breaks when you step on it after about 2 seconds or so. There is a sound effect and if I recall a small effect. Knowing this you step on the patch then step off so it breaks and then knock someone into the newly created hole.

I agree map has probs though, but It’s interesting. Instead of buffing skills into general use. They create a map to accomodate them.

The real problem is whether the devs are actually aware of the shadowstep problem or not, because this has been an issue since release and they never said anything about it.

They are aware, they just don’t care about it.

More like they probably can’t find a solution that is worth the time to implement.
If it’s an actual teleport then it goes through gates in Spvp and tpvp. Meaning you could follow people into their base which they would probably want to avoid.

So its a shadowstep, and follows shadowstep pathing rules which are as a whole problematic.

I think it’s justified because Mesmers are purple and Barney is purple and Barney was a dinosaur and dinosaurs are extinct.

But I agree putting things more into RNG world is so…not attractive.

Maybe if they do some tuning it’ll be there. The map is fairly fun it puts emphasis on certain abilities that couldn’t capitalize on such a niche before.
But that Cannon is broken in more ways than one.
Floor panels are bugged out pathing problems.
The space around capture points, is really small.
Jump pads act weird.
