What's the point of solo arena?

I was going to say that team queue rewards are only 20% higher and agree with Qaelyn, but then I did the maths.

Basically, the rewards for winning 25% of team queue matches are the same (gold) or better (glory) than for winning 50% of solo queue matches.

50% win rate in solo: (0.5 * 25s) + (0.5 * 12.5s) = 18.75 silver/match

25% win rate in team: (0.25 * 30s) + (0.75 * 15s) = 18.75 silver/match

In team queue you get the same rewards for succeeding half as much.

Even given that you will lose significantly more queuing solo in team queue, it is obviously the better option if you don’t care about leaderboards.

so do you want anet to continue to use secondary and gimmicky objectives and not address profession disparities or actually work on core balance and teamwork issues?

Healing/bunker builds aren’t a ‘core balance and teamwork issue’, they’re an integral part of conquest mode. Anet’s not going to get rid of them, reset the conquest meta and completely restructure every class in the game just to introduce a new game mode.

You mention ‘profession disparities’ and ‘core balance issues’ but don’t offer any actual suggestions in your self-described ‘amazing suggestion’. My impression is that you haven’t really thought this through. But do tell: how would you implement a deathmatch mode with respect to this issue?

Keep Skyhammer.

Add Groundhammer and Waterhammer.

Groundhammer strikes launch you high enough into the air that fall damage kills (unless traited). However, if you have the Groundhammer buff (which you obtain in the hidden cave by fighting your own ghost with a lightsaber), you take no fall damage and instead cause AoE damage and knockdown where you land.

Waterhammers on each side of the map push characters laterally towards a pool in the middle filled with flesh-eating piranhas. Characters caught between both Waterhammer jets are instantly downed. Periodic tsunamis damage and knockdown characters who do not have the floaties buff or a surfboard equipped.

Maybe not deathmatch but we definitely need a mode without treb/cannon/npcs.
I want to see pure pvp without annoying things like sieges etc.

yes, pure death match. no circles. no nothing except for a map to spill our enemies pixilated blood over and rob them of leaderboard points!

I’m all for deathmatch maps, but they will still need some sort of secondary mechanic to avoid, as Florgknight describes:

5 bunker aoe heal builds on one team. Game lasts until someone falls asleep or the other team gets tired of mashing buttons.

AoE counters petting zoo, which is what most people seem to be complaining about these days. Which meta would you prefer?

Fights are a lot more fun when people need to pick a target and attack and not just mindlessly spam AOE in the general area.

The movie adaptation of the serial chronicles of the epic journey that is your first 11 games of solo queue. I hear mighty meak is attached to write the screenplay. Billed: ‘very niche, even for an indie’.

I especially liked this last episode, and am touched that you dedicated it to me. My favourite part was when you killed everyone, and when people said you were good.

Please let me sync queue with you next episode. I want to be in the movie.

Just give asura cast bars to even out their advantage over other races.

Asura are a smaller race with smaller weapons, so give them less range and smaller AoE in PvP.

This. Trash talk is the better half of PvP. And once you understand that it doesn’t actually affect you in any meaningful way whatsoever, you might even learn to enjoy it.

Staff ele is viable in solo queue if you know your role, but then anything is viable considering the trash that rattles around in there.

In practise, solo queue is 10% build, 20% skill and 70% ability to use the minimap.

I remember when elementalist actually had a class mechanic.

Now it has all the utility of two weapons spread over four slots.

Don’t really play hotjoin any more, but it did kitten me to tears that you’d be balanced while carrying the orb in Spirit Watch. Usually right when you were about to score.

Make the carrier immune to autobalance. It’s rank, mouth-breathing common sense that should really go without saying.

Use solo queue rank – 70% and above, or something.

Or pick names out of a hat, or something. SoloQ rank is RNG.

PvE level is a better indicator of skill than SoloQ rank.

That’s not usually how it works. Self-selection is biased against the status quo. If you create a poll asking “Should we get rid of Skyhammer?”, the people most motivated to respond will be those who want to get rid of Skyhammer.

Those who are happy with the status quo have no real reason to answer the poll because they already have what they want.

And then there are other methodology issues, including the items on this poll being poorly chosen and prejudicial. If you want a poll to be taken seriously, you should attempt to take a serious poll.

Also at least in solo-q I don’t think we’d see anything like red resign, because the entire team would need to be pve’ers wanting to finish fast for that to work

I guess if you gave dishonor for resigning… I just think its too easily exploitable with custom arenas. Then you’ve got everyone wanting to resign when they get 10 points down and raging at the guy who’s trying to play. Not worth it.

Can’t really imagine playing random arenas on GW1 without it..or any pvp format, for that matter.

Different PvP though. In RA, you get faction for kills and more rank for win streaks, so coordinated resigning doesn’t achieve anything. It was only really viable in HB for the Zaishen quest.

No-one was playing it except on Red Resign days. They didn’t have to kill the whole game mode, they could have just stopped the Zaishen quest. But scads of people were doing it.

Give /resign a week and half the PvE population would be farming it.
